.

Three of Swords Anyone sees immediately Three of Swords is trouble: heart trouble, suffering, storm, cuts, hurt, general hostility. And that’s exactly what it does mean: Three of Swords is an anchor card (one you look to early to get an idea what your spread means, because it has few, and clear, meanings).

.

Three of Swords is one of the divorce cards (with Tower being the other). It also means to quit or be fired. Divisiveness (lawsuit, schism, competitive, against, rebel, contrarian, etc.) belongs to Three of Swords. So does damage, broken, injury and the surgery for the injury (cutting).

.

Here is your card also for hostility and enmity. It translates: hate, hostile and hostility, enemy, war and warlike, militant, flak, abuse and abusive, and ‘in spite of everything.’ Three of Swords equally expresses both hostility for cause, and hostility as an aberration.

Three of PentaclesThese three people meet as friends to settle up their contract about building the clients’ church per the blueprint. The meeting, the teamwork, the agreement, the deal, the business, the involvement of real estate, and settling up: These are main, headline, meanings for Rider Waite’s Three of Pentacles card.

.

People dealing with one another are in a relationship. ‘Relationship’ is Three of Pentacles’ favorite word. Any kind of relationship, but not hostile unless another card specifies that by modifying Three of Pentacles. When in doubt, apply that word to this card! So Three of Pentacles is also association – is people who are together, or who are together on something. Three of pentacles translates ‘together’ and ‘with’: with him, with her, with them, with me, with-anything. Also phrases like ‘people around you’ or the people you are around. Team: That’s another favorite term for Three of Pentacles.

Hierophant Hierophant is one of the complex cards. A Hierophant is a pope, and that’s the pope in a red robe. (I Googled that, and the pope seldom-to-never wears a red one. But Rider Waite has bright red clothing on the pilgrim in Eight of Cups and on Hanged Man who receives a revelation.) So Hierophant is about religion, religious officials, church and church-related subjects, and even about church people.

.

Hierophant is also the sort of words you associated with church: decent, proper, respectable, normal, clean, behave, good, fair, civilized, should, ought, expected, good reputation, and, by extension, anything ‘in good shape.’ By extension, Hierophant translates ‘okay’ and ‘acceptable’ and ‘to pass’ and its similar forms like a passing grade, and even ‘to pass in society.’ In the same way, it also means: moderate, middle-of-the-road, average. It means established and Establishment too.

.

The ceremony is physical, and Hierophant (along with Page of Wands) can mean the word ‘physical’ or ‘in the real physical world.’ This arises from the distinction that the ceremony is just a physical interaction, whereas the spiritual concept it expresses is understood in a different way, on a different level, by the public and by the in-the-know church people (especially the professional ones, the theologians).

.

Hierophant means commitment, as in loyal associations, being true to someone, etc. This goes along with the ‘behave’ theme.

.

It goes deeper though. The ceremony is just that, a ritual, so Hierophant means doing the expected actions, doing things by rote. And the pope is doing what he and his helpers usually do, so Hierophant means usual, normal, ordinary anythings.

.

Then it goes even deeper: Hierophant is all about ‘face.’ About the way we pretend – and all our institutions pretend – to be clean. The difference between the official, formal reality and real reality. Hierophant is about the treaty ‘most everybody subscribes to that all the official stories are valid true and correct. Hierophant is about conforming, about conformity to the norms of loyalty like pledging allegiance to the flag, shaking hands, and so on. People who violate this unspoken treaty are ostracized whether it be just socially snubbed or put to death for treasons.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. …        .

.

In the center we have people interacting ( Three of Pentacles). To the left, it’s a hostile interaction ( Three of Swords). To the right, it’s an agreeable one ( Hierophant). The contrast there is the main message of these three cards.

.

Three of Pentacles is relationship. Three of Swords and Three of Pentacles is a hateful or hurtful relationship: a divorce, a disagreement. Hierophant and Three of Pentacles is a committed relationship, a formal agreement between the parties, things as they ought to be.

.

Here are some things Three of Swords and Three of Pentacles could be about – could say in your spreads: A hostile meeting, or meeting someone who’s hostile to you, or even ‘ We have met the enemy.’ Meeting to settle a lawsuit. An agreement that settles a dispute. Gives you a hard time. Dealing with hard times. Making money in hard times. Meeting your ex, or meeting to settle in a court proceeding with your ex – or meeting over quitting or being fired. People who are difficult to deal with, or difficulty dealing with (these) people. The team that deals with the difficult cases. Surgical team, or cardiac team. Against a relationship, or a relationship with someone who’s against it. Hard business to be in. Making money in hard times. Contrarian investing. Competitive relationship. Civilizing a nasty person. Negotiations with a difficult person, and getting flak for associating with him or her. Having an agreeable relationship in spite of the environment, or doing your part in an abusive relationship. People who are in trouble, or people who make trouble. A fair price for something damaged. Do your part in spite of adversity.

.

Here are some things Three of Swords and Hierophant could be about: Hating an Establishment; hating a religion (or religious people). Hard times are good for you. The enemy in the flesh. A division in the church. Divorce is all right. Not being liked because you are so moral, or having a hard time with moral people. Your name after the divorce. Being all right after a stroke. Being against committing. It’s supposed to be difficult. Competitive in the usual way. Something you would expect to be difficult. Hostile people behaving themselves or being good. Benefiting from some contrarian activity. Making a hateful person polite. You usually get flak. Accepting abuse. Making things comfortable in the cruel world. Papers in a lawsuit. A hard time makes a good person. Church people are trouble, or church people help those in trouble. Respectable now that (he or she) is divorced. In spite of everything, is the way it should be.

.

Then when you look at Three of Pentacles and Hierophant, the smoke from Three of Swords clears. Hear the difference in what this pair will contribute to your spreads: The meeting goes fine. The relationship is good. It’s a good deal. Meeting physically in person. Meeting in church. Dealing with righteous people. Going by his name after the proceeding. This team makes people normal. A committed relationship. Business as usual. The usual kind of relationship. People around you behave themselves. Being good in your relationship. Investing goes well. You civilize the person you associate with. People you negotiate with are middle-of-the road, are moderates. The people you usually associate with. Things are as they should be between us; it’s an acceptable relationship. Making decent money. A formal agreement settles it. The church helps people. The price for the real estate is accepted as fair. You are, and they are, doing your part the way you should. Meeting is respectful.

.

Three of Pentacles is also a business and its profit. To the left is hard times for said business; to the right is a nice and easy time.

Ace of Pentacles Without a doubt, Ace of Pentacles connects ‘being right’ with having or getting money. Being right expands to ‘the right’ anything: right relationship with Three of Pentacles; and setting other people’s (family, any circle of people) problems right with Ten of Pentacles – our two companion cards in the spread Ace of Pentacles finds itself in at the moment.

.

You see a hand with the money (the gold coin) in it over a trail that begins with lilies (purity, the right affiliation) and ends with the victory arbor, and the path matches the color of the gold the hands holds aloft over it: very blunt symbolism, would you say? Yes. So Ace of Pentacles is all about success and succeeding, living well and having money.

.

Ace of Pentacles, as the hand with the money in it, also tells of giving, being the one who pays, money to be made, and phrases like ‘chipping in.’ Ace of Pentacles is about paying the bills, especially when it’s accompanied by Three of Pentacles of Six of Pentacles.

.

Other words that go with ‘right’ in Ace of Pentacles’ perspective are: perfect, best, good. Ace of Pentacles also is being good, being a force or influence for good, for success.

Three of Pentacles People get together to do something. Each contributes some, and each shares the proceeds, in a fair swap. On any level. That is the gist of Three of Pentacles. Its meanings are so flexible they blend smoothly blend with every card in the deck – so Three of Pentacles is our guide to the deck in Tarot Email Training. You have noticed it shows up more than other cards, yes? That’s because it has so much to say, in so many ways.

.

‘Relationship’ is the most frequent translate for Three of Pentacles: Try it first! It means just about anything joint or mutual. It means people getting together or meeting – no matter the number of people (a lovers’ liaison or a board meeting of a bloated corporate entity).

.

The next most frequent translate for Three of Pentacles is anything about a deal or dealing: negotiating, dealing with, networking, working out a disagreement or conflict, putting heads together to buy and sell.

.

And Three of Pentacles is also simply the meeting. People in a budget meeting (because Three of Pentacles is such a commercial card). People meeting by chance on the street. People getting together, or getting people together.

.

As a commercial exchange, don’t forget Three of Pentacles is paying the bills, making investments, being in business – especially a profitable business.

.

Lastly, because of the contract that the architect has with his clients in our illustration – because the meeting in the picture is him demonstrating (with the blueprint) to his clients that he constructed their edifice per the specs in their contract, to prove he has earned the last draw which represents his profit – because of these things, Three of Pentacles will reliably show up for legal proceedings, trials, settlements, negotiations. It is the main card for legal proceedings.

.

Keep in mind that once in a blue moon that blueprint is the point of Three of Pentacles’ appearance. No other card directly addresses a blueprint.

Ten of Pentacles The slogan to remember for Ten of Pentacles in Tarot Verbatim is: People who have a problem, or people who are a problem. Yeah, every other system sees this card entirely differently, just as they do with Six of Wands. But strong feedback from people who use other systems, who encountered these two cards consistently in a given important series of spreads report that the meanings Tarot Verbatim™ has for it applied. (Not good, yes.)

.

So let’s talk about this ‘people who are the problem’ concept. Here are the phrases that concept for Ten of Pentacles applies in today’s spread: is a problem in your life; who are a problem; a bad time in your life; other people’s problems; with people there interfering; our disagreements; these disagreeable folks; people who don’t get along; being dysfunctional.

.

The illustration here: Just look at it. It’s a family ‘discussion’ of the type we have all encountered. For the full story Google ‘Ten of Pentacles Tarot Verbatim.’ And the ‘discussion’ applies to nonfamily situations as well of course.

.

Grandpa, the boss, is on his chair-throne. The dogs know he is the one to pay attention to. I think the old man wants another ‘heir,’ and maybe the squalling brat pulling on mama’s skirt is female. Because ‘there’s something in it’ for husband: He stares into space, looks away from her, as Wife pleads with him. Been there yourself, have you?

.

Anyway, Ten of Pentacles most frequent single-word translate is ‘relatives.’ The relatives. It also says ‘those people.’ ‘The neighbors.’ In that certain tone of voice we use when people are the problem.

.

Ten of Pentacles is one of three family cards – and is the negative one. (Four of Wands and Ten of Cups are the others.) All the family cards also mean levels of groups of people – each in its own way. Ten of Pentacles is, as I said, the aggravatin’ people. The mob. Politicians. The power structure on the city council or other level of agency. Ten of Pentacles is ‘the public’ too. If you have dealt with ‘the public,’ you get this! Ten of Pentacles is about messed-up people, people who complicate the scene, ‘the motley crew’: messed-up people. It says ‘making a mess of’ as well.

.

Lastly, all three of the ‘family’ cards (Ten of Pentacles, Four of Wands, Ten of Cups) are neighborhoods and houses or buildings as well. Ten of Pentacles is the bad neighborhood or the very wealthy neighborhood (the ghettos without money, and the ghettos with money).

Ahem. Today we are looking at just how blurry that line is between good-guyness and bad-guyness. Here’s a toast to the line: Long may it live.

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:

.

Al Capone is in front of your house with a baseball bat keeping the rioters at bay, and the police have been told by some ogre in power to stand down. So tell me who’s the good guy and who’s the bad guy in your story?

.

The bad guys with the money won in court. You are supporting the low-rent relatives. Politicians use your money for their evil deals. Making a mess of a relationship with someone who is right for me, but dealing with messed-up people successfully. You make your money in a home business with people who live there interfering, but – Guess what? – you are the one who pays the household bills. Meanwhile, we are working out our disagreements with one another the right way.

.

Ahem. Today we are looking at just how blurry that line is between good-guyness and bad-guyness. Here’s a toast to the line: Long may it live.

. ….. .     .

.

.

.

.

Some of my best friends are messed up, and I am making money with them. Some of the right kind of people I know make the most trouble for me and for others. God’s people pick your pocket: You noticed that too? As a good person, supporting the nogoodniks is somehow me doing my part. So which is right for me: being the good citizen, or joining the motley crew?

Eight of Swords My hands are tied, people say when they don’t want to (or when they actually can’t) do something. Think Eight of Swords that way. Her bonds are loose. They left their weapons there in the mud. That house on the high hill is far off. Yet she doesn’t move; she is as contained as the elephant chained with the feeble tie that worked when he was a baby. Eight of Swords can mean this sort of thing … but doesn’t often.

.

The most frequent translate for Eight of Swords is ‘can’t.’ It is the actual lead card for a death happening. (Other cards that refer to a dead person don’t mean death happening in Tarot Verbatim™ most of the time.) The second-most translate for Eight of Swords is probably ‘impossible.’

.

Eight of Swords is about being unable, disabled, or handicapped. Eight of Swords is about a shutdown, being stuck, ‘that’s as far as it goes,’ something stalled.

.

Watch for Eight of Swords to indicate something is in a container (contained/shut in) when you ask about a lost object. And this is the card for jail and prison, and sometimes even being bedridden.

Three of Pentacles Contract. Agree, agreement. Relationship, get along with. Doing their part or doing your part. Meeting. Those are Three of Pentacles’ flagship meanings, headline meanings you remember as this card shows up more often than so many others. The parties to the contract get together, and the architect demonstrates in the meeting, with the blueprint, that he did as agreed in that contract.

.

Here are today’s words in the ‘get along with’ or relationship category: get along with people, relationship, other people, like others, on this team, people get along, together, the people you get along with, takes teamwork.

.

Getting paid belongs to Three of Pentacles as part of making a deal and living up to the agreement and the contract – because a contract, of course, pays.

Eight of Pentacles Eight of Pentacles is all about job, work, employee, workplace – just look at the picture. Eight of Pentacles is hands-on: It shares many of the ‘do’ meanings of Magician. For example, today it says: you are doing, for what he did, and to do what you routinely do.

.

As the carpenter in the illustration hammers as only a carpenter can, this Rider Waite Tarot card means repetitive actions, which expands to words like: continual, each and every time, one thing after another, keep trying, repetitive motions.

.

Eight of Pentacles is an anchor card: a card with few and well-defined meanings that link to the meanings of many other cards smoothly.

Three of Pentacles and Eight of Pentacles are getting something done. Eight of Swords over there can’t. Just looking at this spread, there’s a meeting of involved people putting their heads together about ( Three of Pentacles) what they will be doing (work they will be doing about – Eight of Pentacles) whatever the holdup, the limitation, the sticking point, the shutdown … or the impossibility Eight of Swords represents.

.

So if Eight of Swords were about (from the question or issue that is the subject matter of the reading) a person being disabled or crippled, Three of Pentacles would be specialists consulting together, meeting about the person/patient’s situation, about what their job is, what they are doing ( Eight of Pentacles). This is an example of the way cards apply to one another and to the subject at hand.

Did you agree to do something that can’t be done? The way to do the impossible is to network with whoever is involved. If you can’t agree with those people, just get to work, keep trying, and hammer it out yourself. Handicapped people use this approach in their jobs, and so can I.

GUIDANCE       You value friends who are generous when you are short of money … or of love, and you do the same for them, it’s only fair. Sometimes you are generous and sometimes you are cheap in dealing with people. It’s fair to withhold something you know from an old friend in order to keep the relationship sweet. But mostly it’s the people you trust that you share your deepest darkest feelings with.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE

.

Four of Pentacles You gotta watch Four of Pentacles: Some of its meanings are opposites. Because in the illustration he is grasping, holding onto, his money he is associated with deep feelings and cherishing something precious – even meaning to hug, at times, because, well, he is hugging himself and his coins. But he is commonly titled The Miser because he is holding onto the money like that; yet he is the outsider because he is alone, hunkered down outside of the town.

.

He has secrets or something to hide but is associated with deep feeling.

.

And this is one of the main cards that will show up to indicate any kind of deficit or being short of something, or ‘not enough.’

.

So Four of Pentacles covers a wide swath when you go to apply it to your story. Put him next to a love card and he can love deeply or not enough or both. (You look to the other cards and the story in the question.)

.

Today in association with Three of Pentacles his financial side is emphasized. And today with Six of Cups his deep feeling is emphasized; Six of Cups is trust and good feeling between (old) friends, and even a gift – which can get applied to the money side of your story – giving money (or even not spending much for a gift).

.

(If you are researching Four of Pentacles today, if you have the time, Google it with ‘Tarot Verbatim’ after it, and get the tell-all from the archives of this site.)

.

Four of Pentacles sometimes serves as refusing, translating ‘won’t,’ which comes from ‘won’t talk about it.’ This usually relates to ‘not opening up’ or being emotionally shut down, maybe sulking? Four of Cups owns that meaning but Four of Pentacles borrows it. (And even Four of Swords isn’t responding!)

.

Today most of the meanings we use for Four of Pentacles are about a deficit, and here are some of those words: not much of a; isn’t as good as; can’t afford to; unrewarding; is not worth much; not much; holds me back; don’t much; not as much; less profitable, is not enough, a lot less. Along this same line, Four of Pentacles represents a bargain: for a good price; you save money.

.

Keeping a secret is one of Four of Pentacles’ common themes. Today we use these: secret; private; are sealed; but won’t admit it; don’t talk about; something to hide.

.

Four of Pentacles attracts phrases with the word ‘holding’ in them both as holding onto, holding out for, and others. In a criminal case, Four of Pentacles may be holding the contraband. ‘Holding’ goes along with ‘possession’ there, both of which are Four of Pentacles words.

Three of Pentacles Today Three of Pentacles extends itself to use all of its main meanings: relationship; business transactions and deal with; legal; agree; meet; each party doing his part. Thank you, Three!

.

As you know if you have been around here for a while, Three of Pentacles’ most frequent meanings are about equitable relationships of any sort. It takes another card to make it a bad relationship.

.

What you see here is a friendly negotiation about getting paid in a contract. The architect demonstrates the building was built as the contract specified. It’s both the contract and the negotiation, the settling up, that makes Three of Pentacles a legal card in Tarot Verbatim.

.

The meeting, getting together, the interaction, is another crop of meanings for Three of Pentacles.

.

A contract is an agreement; they are having an agreeable meeting and a meeting to agree – agree it’s time for the worker to be paid. It’s a friendly social interaction too. All these things belong to Three of Pentacles.

.

Another large category of words and phrases for Three of Pentacles are all about people doing their part, or a person doing his/her part with other people. Doing your part fair and square – a fair deal – is Three of Pentacles.

.

You will find this card showing up frequently in your readings, more frequently than most others, because its meanings are so common and because it blends so well with its Tarot-mates.

Six of Cups Six of Cups has a lot of seemingly unrelated meanings, and we use a lot of them today. Its story is a little boy gives his little girl friend flowers in front of where they live. The artwork suggests sweetness as Knight of Cups’ does. The old buildings, the old-fashioned dress of the kids, and the idea of romance and children blends to: past romances, childhood, the good old days, one’s background, the way things used to be ….

.

Besides children, romance, and the past, Six of Cups also is about trust, a gift, a house (particularly an old house, a cute house, a cottage, etc. – and old friends.

.

Six of Cups is nostalgic. Six of Cups is Home Sweet Home.

Four of Pentacles is famous for being stingy, and Six of Cups is giving a gift, so we have both generosity and selfishness represented, along with Three of Pentacles: a fair exchange. Obviously, we have stories, maybe have distinctions. In real life, the question or subject the reader has in mind would determine what kind of story we have, but without that question here on this site, we have all the stories.

.

All three of these cards have disparate meanings, and many of them, that are held together by elements of their illustrations. This gives us many stories, many subjects we could cover. For example: If you use the ‘ secret’ meaning of Four of Pentacles, you have a secret transaction, or trade secrets, with Three of Pentacles; and you have secret love, or secrets kept from a loved on, with Six of Cups.

.

And if you use the ‘ deficiency’ meaning of Four of Pentacles, you are on a very tight budget, or the business is short of money, or there’s not much business, when Three of Pentacles joins it. When Six of Cups joins it, secret love or not enough romance, or not very romantic, might be the story.

.

The fact we are using common, main, meanings for all the cards indicates accuracy – of course, that’s accuracy if you were working with a question!

. ….. .     .

.

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:

.

Four of Pentacles is famous for being stingy, and Six of Cups is giving a gift, so we have both generosity and selfishness represented along with Three of Pentacles: a fair exchange.

For example: If you use the ‘secret’ meaning of Four of Pentacles, you have a secret transaction, or trade secrets, with Three of Pentacles; and you have secret love, or secrets kept from a loved on, with Six of Cups.

.

And if you use the ‘deficiency’ meaning of Four of Pentacles, you are on a very tight budget, or the business is short of money, or there’s not much business, when Three of Pentacles joins it. When Six of Cups joins it, secret love or not enough love might be the story.

.

The fact we are using common, main, meanings for all the cards indicates accuracy – of course, that’s accuracy if you were working with a question!

. ….. .     .

.

.

.

.

I can make do on a shoestring budget moneywise, but I hold out for a mutually lavish give-and-take love relationship or none at all. So I can do without money, and I can do without romance until someone who does his or her part comes along.

.

.

Five of Pentacles – Desperate times, losing home, hitting bottom, feeling sorry (or feeling sorry for yourself). Five of Pentacles is a mother and son, crippled, on the street, passing by a church that would have a meal and a place to sleep but the boy has leprosy (the bell he wears). So Five of Pentacles is about serious sickness too. And about being crippled, disabled. Five of Pentacles is chronic; there’s no shock about being in need and not having the need met here in this Rider Waite Tarot card.

.

Five of Pentacles can represent Dark Night of the Soul, and similar feelings, or it can represent a desperate situation. This is one of those cards that impels you to look for a ‘rescue card’ – my word for it.

.

Five of Pentacles means loss, especially losing money, and being in need, being broke or bankrupt – ‘on the street.’ It is simply being poor too, and it also can represent the ghetto.

.

Five of Pentacles is feeling inferior or being inferior, or feeling other people are your inferiors, are ‘bums.’ It is about being sorry for something as well as just feeling sorry for yourself, or even ‘sorry I ever.’ It is about feeling bad, feeling down, and feeling or being humiliated. Clinical depression.

.

Five of Swords also says ‘hard times.’ Having a very hard time.

Three of Pentacles is all about dealing with other people – in all sorts of ways. It is arguably the most flexible card, the way it relates to the other cards. Show me a relationship, and I’ll show you Three of Pentacles: personal, social, commercial, teamwork, meetings, negotiations, legal proceedings, people putting heads together (including professionals consulting on the same patient or case), meeting up coincidentally on the street. And Three of Pentacles is very much about ‘fair and square’ dealings, whether in love or in business or in … whatever.

.

Each person does his part in Three of Pentacles; that’s an integral meaning for this Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim™.

.

All these nuances and meanings arise from the picture of the architect meeting, with the blueprint, with his clients to demonstrate he did his job per the contract, per their agreement. This is the final inspection of his work that clears him for the final payment which represents his profit. So this is a fair-and-square deal.

Five of Swords First let’s say that the lighter side of Five of Swords is ‘pulling it off,‘you showed them,’ and ‘I did it my way.’ Sometimes our Five of Swords guy is ‘evening the score,’ and sometimes is advising you to do the same! It also appears for the undoing of a bully, in spite of mainly being about all the havoc a bully wreaks.

.

Here’s the jerk. The story here is of a fellow who, when he wins at sword practice with his friends, pretends he won their lands as if the fight were a real duel. Five of Swords is the abuser, the wise guy, the bad boy, the thief, and the betrayer of friends – similar to Seven of Swords but Five of Swords is personal, is one-on-one.

.

Five of Swords is being assertive, aggressive or abusive: That’s its headline. Pushy. It is the hardass attitude of someone who takes advantage – often foul advantage. So Five of Swords is unfair or unethical competition in business, intimidating and pushing people around. Stealing, being rude. But Five of Swords isn’t necessarily the heavy; he is the smart alec or Smarty Pants as well.

.

Some rare meanings of this Five of Swords card are: when circumstances force you … the ‘I have to’ syndrome. It also represents when someone beats you at something, ‘pulls one over on you.’

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. …       .

.

Today we have a fine example of how flexible Three of Pentacles is. Its main application is about a fair exchange, but on the left is losing it all and on the right is the bad guy who takes advantage and takes it all. Watch Three of Pentacles rise to the occasion!

.

The first thing you may notice in this spread is the contrast between ‘ doing my part fair and square’ of Three of Pentacles and the ‘winner take all’ of Five of Swords.  Then you observe the ‘ everyone does his part and shares according to the agreement’ of Three of Pentacles and the ‘ I’ve lost my shirt’ of Five of Pentacles. These two observations alert you to figuring out how the concepts apply to the subject you have in mind.

.

Then you observe the ‘everyone does his part and shares according to the agreement’ of Three of Pentacles and the ‘I’ve lost my shirt’ of Five of Pentacles. These two observations alert you to how the concepts apply to the subject you have in mind.

.

Note that some of our stories counterbalance the left and the right card – counterbalance the losingitall of Five of Pentacles with the takingitall of Five of Swords. Here are some (delicious?) examples: Making a mutually profitable deal with someone who intends to beggar you. Losing the money he stole is only fair. A thief loses his shirt: Good deal. Smarty Pants is sorry he ever dealt with you. It’s a fair deal when he loses the money he stole. He put you out on the street and now he’s in court about it. The bully gets humiliated ( in court). Broke, but I pull off meeting my obligations. These stories happen because Three of Pentacles is about that fair exchange. Note that the counterbalance of two ‘bad cards’ calls forth the best meanings of Five of Swords.

.

The other pairs tend to make less-desirable stories. Five of Pentacles and Three of Pentacles are simply losing your shirt in a business deal, or being utterly miserable in a personal relationship. Losing a contract (by being assertive). Feeling sorry for yourself about your team ( being beaten). I do my part and feel bad about them taking advantage. A losing proposition.

.

Five of Pentacles and Five of Swords immediately say he took everything they have, that bully, and they are destitute. And those two cards surely do say that. But not so fast! We can use the ‘ sorry’ meanings for Five of Pentacles and the coercion meanings for Five of Swords, and say ‘ make them sorry’ or beating a bankruptcy, or humiliating a bully.

.

We have stories for sure here today. The upshot is that when times are hard and you may have reason to feel cornered, consider dealing with it assertively … consider making their behavior their problem instead of yours.

. …..        ..

.

.

.

.

Killing the goose that lays the golden eggs is a losing proposition. Getting greedy and wanting it all is one thing, but getting greedy and taking it all will be your loss in the long run. My way of coming out on top in difficult times is to do without and meet my obligations, and, yes, I pull that off.
