.

Ace of CupsThe is the most opaque illustration in the Rider Waite deck. The dove is Holy Spirit, and it holds the wafer of holy communion in its beak, depositing it into a fountain whose five streams splash into a large body of water representing mass conscious. So Ace of Cups represents God’s presence flowing from one human to all the others. Its application is wider than you would think.

.

The obvious meanings would be God and divinity, and flow – just looking at the illustration. In real Tarot life, Ace of Cups appears to represent these things today: good; easy (the flow); love, especially from a female perspective; unconditional love; peace; health and healing; mass consciousness; safe; leak; accepted; benefit; spiritual.

.

Ace of Cups means ‘female’ too, if you ask the gender of something or someone.

High PriestessHigh Priestess is another religious/spiritual/esoteric Rider Waite Tarot card. The symbolism is from Kabbalah: the pomegranates and the two pillars labeled ‘B’ and ‘J.’ The pillars represent the Severity/justice and the Mercy aspect of judgment, and are mentioned in the Old Testament as being on either side of the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies in the Jewish temple. They are seen in Kabbalah too. The woman in our illustration wears the crown of monarchs of ancient Egypt. Also, as the ‘2’ of the Major Arcanae of Tarot, High Priestess represents the feminine principle of receptivity, of knowing and non-action. (Magician, the ‘1,’ is the reverse.) This is the background from which the meanings of High Priestess arise.

.

So in Tarot practice High Priestess means female and phrases involved in that, such as (today): girls, lady, feminine, private lady, woman stays home.

.

This card actually represents the deck and its message. (That is why you find instructions that you can choose any card but this one to represent yourself as the Self card.) Note the book in the lady’s lap says ‘TARO’ in capital letters. You find that in Wheel of Fortune written in a circle so that it says ROTA as well. High Priestess appears for a person who is psychic, but doesn’t appear (at least that I remember) for the word ‘psychic.’

.

The reason High Priestess is receptive and not active on the physical plane is that, as the ‘2,’ she represents the feminine principle, which is active on the spiritual plane and passive on the physical. This gets exacting; it is esoteric, and I may be off-kilter here. Anyway, High Priestess will appear for the word ‘spiritual’ and will refer to the spiritual plane and things spiritual. High Priestess will also translate ‘quiet’ because she does not take initiative, and so is more the keeper of knowledge.

.

High Priestess does not take initiative – so much so that this card means being private and staying home – staying put and not socializing, and also being sedentary or passive. (A number of other cards are also females who keep to themselves in various ways.) Once in a while, High Priestess will come up for a female in a wheelchair, even. Today these phrases are examples: home, the woman stays home, in a quiet homeplace, where you live, being sedentary, she is staying, not to get involved.

.

High Priestess is She Who Knows All. She is the data bank. So this card belongs to the ‘know’ tribe in Tarot. Today, for example, this card translates: data bank, expert, expertise, she understands.

Hanged ManThat moment you ‘got it,’ that ‘click’ in your mind when either you put two and two together, or they collided in your head. Think déjà vu. Think lipstick on the collar. Think ‘so that’s why he did that!’ Realization, vision, intuition, ‘a feeling’ being ‘turned on’ – things like that are Hanged Man moments. Awakening.

.

In a more general way, Hanged Man simply means an intense feeling: instinct; an urge. Hanged Man translates both ‘intense’ and ‘feeling.’

.

Hanged Man also is one of the ‘know’ cards. Today it means mental, an inkling, a brilliant idea, or an idea, realizing and recognized.

.

Hanged Man is the paranormal card. It means extrasensory experiences and insights, and the moment of visionary realizations. It means enlightenment, vision, tapping into ‘out there’ and intuition or hunches. Why does it mean all that? – well, Hanged Man reflect the stories, in several cultures, of the hero or protagonist hanging himself on a tree for three days and sacrificing a body part or body function for ‘insight,’ and ‘insight’ is paranormal abilities and knowledge.

.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. …         .

Ace of Cups and High Priestess both are cards that mean ‘female’ in various ways. Ace of Cups and High Priestess also both mean ‘spiritual.’ Since Ace of Cups is love, and High Priestess is a woman, together they say ‘ love a woman’ or ‘ a woman loves.’

.

High Priestess and Hanged Man both mean knowing, and ideas, and the mental plane. The knowing can refer to esoteric knowing or simply awareness of something or other – for both these cards, of course. So we can say ‘An expert’s ( High Priestess) brilliant ideas ( Hanged Man) are accepted ( Ace of Cups). The three cards can also say ‘ Recognized ( Hanged Man) and accepted ( Ace of Cups) as an expert ( High Priestess).’

.

Ace of Cups is love; Hanged Man is intense feeling or being turned on; High Priestess is the feminine woman, the quiet lady. So these three cards are a love story. In a similar vein, since Ace of Cups is God, and Hanged Man is a vision or enlightenment, and High Priestess is a quiet contemplative life or a spiritually oriented person, we also have the story of devotion to God. So she ( High Priestess, which sometimes simply translates ‘ she’ as the feminine principle) is a godly woman, or she has a vision ( Hanged Man) about God. These three cards can also say ‘ A vision ( Hanged Man) of the divine ( Ace of Cups) feminine ( High Priestess). How about that?

.

Hanged Man is the card for psychic abilities like telepathy, and High Priestess is the card for spiritual expertise. Hence we have ‘ Telepathy is easy ( Ace of Cups) for someone with spiritual expertise ( High Priestess).’

.

Ace of Cups is health. High Priestess is spiritual. Hanged Man is mental. So together they can say ‘ Mental and spiritual health’ or ‘ Mental health through spiritual means.’ High Priestess is spiritual and Ace of Cups is healing, so ‘ Spiritual healing is an intense experience (Hanged Man).

. ……. ….. ……. ..

.

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:

.

Ace of Cups and High Priestess both are cards that mean ‘female’ in various ways. Ace of Cups and High Priestess also both mean ‘spiritual.’ Since Ace of Cups is love, and High Priestess is a woman, together they say ‘love a woman’ or ‘a woman loves.’

.

High Priestess and Hanged Man both mean knowing, and ideas, and the mental plane. The knowing can refer to esoteric knowing or simply awareness of something or other – for both these cards, of course. So we can say ‘An expert’s (High Priestess) brilliant ideas (Hanged Man) are accepted (Ace of Cups). The three cards can also say ‘Recognized (Hanged Man) and accepted (Ace of Cups) as an expert (High Priestess).’

So she (High Priestess, which sometimes simply translates ‘she’ as the feminine principle) is a godly woman, or she has a vision (Hanged Man) about God. These three cards can also say ‘A vision (Hanged Man) of the divine (Ace of Cups) feminine (High Priestess). How about that?

.

Hanged Man is the card for psychic abilities like telepathy, and High Priestess is the card for spiritual expertise. Hence we have ‘Telepathy is easy (Ace of Cups) for someone with spiritual expertise (High Priestess).’

.

Ace of Cups is health. High Priestess is spiritual. Hanged Man is mental. So together they can say ‘Mental and spiritual health’ or ‘Mental health through spiritual means.’ High Priestess is spiritual and Ace of Cups is healing, so ‘Spiritual healing is an intense experience (Hanged Man).

. ……. ….. ……     . ..

.

.

.

.…..………..

The spiritual and mental aspects of love and healing are what is on our minds and hearts today. It’s easy to think of healing as procedures and techniques and substances that affect us, but believing in them actually often is stronger than the things themselves. It’s easy to think of love as its physical and emotional and social aspects, but why do you call it soulmate at its best?

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. High Priestess knows and stays,  is not associated with activity.  She is the brains and is associated with learning and books,  so she can be a bookkeeper.   She stands for the occult concept of female principle:  passive on the physical plane,  active on the mental and spiritual.  This card has all sorts of Kabbalah symbols on it.

Queen of Pentacles is capable and competent,  and takes care or supports –  usually her man whose business she participates in.  She is pictured with money in her hands,  which makes her a bookkeeper potentially.  Fertility symbols abound around her.  She is the matriarch.

Five of Wands shows activity,  rivalry,  fighting,  trying hard,  expending energy,  exercise and being combative.  It is also about competition and competitiveness.  Five fellows are going at each other with boards in what we hope is some kind of contest or game.

Ace of Cups

Ace of Cups is love,  cooperation,  good health,  being harmless,  female,  a flow,  God and channeling divinity or the Holy Spirit.  It is an overtly Christian card in Rider Waite,  specifically Roman Catholic in the origin of its symbolism.

Our Daily Spread for Mar. 17, 2011

Rider_Waite_Tarot_Spread

Everyone benefits from a spiritual journey

High Priestess
Ace of Cups, Six of Swords, Ten of Cups

This is another spread that applies equally to both genders in the sentences that use High Priestess as spirituality.

Romantic Perspective:
Leaving life as it was and marrying the lady you love.
Lady you love is away from the marital home.
She leaves life as it was and settles down to marry for love.
She is staying with her loving family and parting from the other life.
Life will be better as a happy married woman.
He will have a better life married to a lady who loves him.
He is leaving his happy marriage because he loves the other woman.

Perspective of Not Belonging/Disloyalty:
Being alone and leaving the loving family.
Private philosophy is to be by (your)self and get away from loyalty to any clan.
Is quiet about distancing him/herself from the family that loves him/her.
Keeping it to (yourself) that (you) are no longer cooperating with (your) own kind.
Keeping it to (yourself) that (you) no longer love (your) own people/family/community.
No longer a member of (your) own community/family, (you) have something to hide.
These people shy away from their own community and quietly cooperate with one another.
Have ideas of my own, am leaving all those people I was fond of behind.

Perspective of Belonging/Loyalty:
Love your own people and secretly distance (your)self from the rest.
Being loyal to your own group and secretly heading away from other loyalties.
Leaving the former life behind and heading home to stay with the loving family.
She is single and is headed back to the family and community that approves of and loves her.
When you are left alone in the world, you go back home where you are loved.

Perspective of Spiritual Journey:
This spiritual journey is to be one of God’s people.
A spiritual journey that is about love for people.
Everyone benefits from a spiritual journey.
(She) is one of the people who is getting into knowing divine spiritual secrets.
People who love God are on a spiritual journey.
People who love one another are on a spiritual journey.
Very quietly headed in the direction of love for others.
Her expertise is of benefit to everyone.

The Six of Swords is right in the middle here, going from one thing or place to another.  On either side of it is love, God and cooperation, the graceful Ace of Cups on the left and the good people, the family that loves one another, the community or clan on the right.  Above it all, the High Priestess influences the theme with spirituality, secret knowledge, being quiet and being alone.  So right there you have being alone and leaving the loving family or being single/alone and going to the loving family.

The Six of Swords is a journey, and a journey in consciousness as well, so the High Priestess gets together with it to make a spiritual journey.  And the Ace of Cups as ‘being with God’ gets together with the Ten of Cups, the good people, to express ‘God’s people.’  Ace of Cups also brings out loyalty relating to the journey away from one and to another place, loyalty and being accepted.  Both the Ace of Cups and the High Priestess bring out spirituality, the Ace of Cups along the lines of being infused with the presence of God.  Oh.  And the High Priestess is a single woman as well as The Other Woman.  These elements are the pieces of the puzzle we put together in all the ways we see them fit.

Remember, these many possibilities of interpretations are because we operate here with a question that supplies no specifics.  Your question or subject, when you consult Tarot, is at least half the material, at least half the answer.

Advice is that we do directions in life from one mindset to another:  You are on such a trip, so best know where you are going and where you are leaving.  Are you, for instance, headed away from the mindset you were born into, or are you content with it?

Meanings and Illustrations:

Ace of Cups: This is such a healthy card.  It is a blessing.  Its main meaning in the Rider Waite school of thought is the state of perfection the body attains when it is channeling the flow of divine energy, love, in all five senses.  Those five streams stand for the five senses.  Today it is acceptance, God or divinity, love, loyalty.

Six of Swords: Both a journey in consciousness and a trip from one place to another.  A strong theme of life having been fairly awful and going to be a lot better.  Water represents consciousness; and the artist of Rider Waite Tarot, Pamela Coleman Smith, makes it a point to paint the water on the right side of the boat as choppy and on the left as calm.

Ten of Cups: This is the ‘happily ever after’ marriage card, which also means the community of good (prosperous) people.  The illustration shows mama, papa and two kids admiring their palatial home – kids dancing ‘oh goody-goody’ –  together, parents’ arms hugging one another and outstretched to the sky where a rainbow arcs over their home.

High Priestess: She is being spirituality today, as well as doing a stint as a single woman, the Other Woman, being alone, being quiet or secret about something.  She knows, as in knows spiritual secrets.  The symbols of occult wisdom surround her as she sits there with one of them a book labeled ‘Taro.’

Rider_Waite_Tarot_Spread

The couple gets together and talks about how they love one another and are sharing freely

Eight of Wands
Star, Two of Cups, Three of Cups

Romance Perspective:
This is a grand love affair:  a whole lot of love talk and sharing of lives.
The couple gets together and talks about how they love one another and are sharing freely.
They are sexually close and love one another more and more – so happy together.
They are thrilled to share each and every thing with their counterpart.
Together, these lovers have more and more prosperity to share – They are thrilled and happy.
There is no need to say more.  Two cards mean a lot of conversation, the Star and the Eight of Wands.  Three cards mean loving another person:  Star, Two of Cups and Three of Cups.  The Two of Cups means a sexual couple, or a grand love affair.  This is a theme so entrenched it does not need a question to limit its material.  It’s about love, love, love.

Advice is that this is somewhere around you.  Being in love.

Meanings and Illustrations:

Star: Pour out enthusiasm, love, talking.  Illustration shows a woman who is happy and singing, doing some kind of bath routine, pouring something into the bathing pond.  She is feeling good all over.

Two of Cups: Often, Two of Cups in the Rider Waite/Tarot Verbatim school means there’s reason to mistrust someone you trust.  Sitting where it sits here, those teeth are pulled:  It means a sexually bonded couple.  In the illustration a couple pledges their troth with the caduceus overhanging the cup.

Three of Cups: So happy together sharing the profit and the good feeling.  One for all and all for one.  This card is kind of an expansion of the previous Two of Cups.  The girls in the illustration are celebrating the good life and their harvest/profit together.

Eight of Wands: Talk, more and more, each and every thing.  The illustration shows all those wands flying in the air, arranged to look like written messages, hence ‘talk’ as well.
