Advice The power struggle that ensues when rank-and-file people don’t listen to Management’s orders is the same process as the family members that no longer accept daddy as the dictator. The politicians’ rulings are met with resistance by mainstream folks just as the love interest who barks orders and is unresponsive to Partner’s needs is rejected because ‘I am not going to live that kind of life.’ (But it’s easier to change boyfriends than governments.)

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

He is not the sole ruler of the family, he is a member of it.
I have to get married and be a member of a family in order to be happy but I am not about to be dominated by some guy with big ideas about himself.
He is a married man, he cannot be the lord and master.
As head of this family, he has all the say and doesn’t listen to you.
No taste for family life or marriage: He has to be the sole master of his fate.
He has to be the boss of his clan but his family wants nothing to do with him.
Politicians vs People, a Power Struggle (Ten of Cups, King of Pentacles + Ace of Swords)
Everybody dislikes being dictated to by politicians.
Politicians do not have their sway over the people.
Everybody is refusing to take orders from the master manipulators.
People asserting themselves en masse against propagandists.
People force their politicians to say ‘No.’
People cannot refuse these orders.
All of us have to agree, not just the head man.
The people get together and issue a mandate that they are refusing his arbitrary agenda.
The day of the dictator is over, the people are asserting themselves.
Rulers don’t have to listen to the folks’ ultimatums.
Men in power issue ultimatums, they don’t accept input from the people.
The union will not be dominated by Management.
Management will not be dominated by the union members.
His power will not be overruled by the populace/voters.
Everybody in the organization can’t be the Chief.
The ‘Indians’ refuse to listen to the ‘Chief.’
The ‘Chief’ refuses to listen to the ‘Indians.;’
People have to not heed the bigshots.
People who won’t take orders from money men.
Not One of the People (Four of Cups + Ten of Cups)
Master manipulator me, I am not one of those happy well-adjusted folks.
He does NOT want to be one of the people, he is the dominant mover and shaker.
I am the boss of all these people, they are not allowed to assert themselves.
I am the great persuader by my style; the folks cannot resist me.
No leader organizes a group of people like he does.
With his macho charisma, he can make people who won’t, cooperate .
You aren’t one of the good people if you are against the head charmer.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
What is this authority theme? Who are these messages going to? Not anyone I talk to, not anyone who comments. Oh, well. Here’s another one. More political, more about the group mind and organization. Mostly about our favorite folks next to the bankers, the politicians. First thing you notice is King of Pentacles, the studly charismatic ladies’ man, the mover and shaker, the dictator or politician or financier (The Prince, in Machiavelli) next to Ace of Swords, an order, forces or forced to, ultimatum, ultimate power, military might. You can’t get away from a dominance theme with these two! King of Pentacles is the rich guy who throws his weight around.
Then the other two cards read ‘The people say no.’ Four of Cups is to refuse, to pay no heed or not listen to, “Huh-hunh, no way, ain’t gonna, not me, not gonna take it any more.” Ten of Cups is the people – the community of happy well-adjusted folks in a good neighborhood of others like themselves.
So the power struggle is right there in the face of the reader here. Awkward thing (and interesting thing) is: The four Rider Waite Tarot cards’ message is so structured that most of the statements it makes are reversible! That makes for crosseyedness of the mind. “The Indians won’t listen to the Chief, and the Chief won’t listen to the Indians.” That kind of thing. I have tried to express this without being obnoxious.
This whole thing reminds me of the Marines’ slogan: “Lead, follow, or get out of the way.”
LEARN TAROT BY THE PICTURES
Four of Cups Refuse, pay no heed or not listen to, “Huh-huh, no way, ain’t gonna, not me, not gonna take it any more.” Don’t give me that. Etc. Those are the only meanings we access for Four of Cups today. Illustration shows a fellow refusing to accept another cup from the hand in the sky. His arms and legs are crossed, his head is averted.
Ten of Cups The people, the happy well-adjusted family or community, the respectable prosperous folks (moral majority) who are militantly mainstream. Any group that is not sinister. Here we have the house on the golf course with the rainbow over it and the ideal two-kid family skipping happily by the side of their embracing parents. (Where’s the dog, dammit?)
King of Pentacles There he is, the studly uppity full-of-himself Mr. Big – the gangster, politician or financier. That guy who won’t call you. Macho charisma of its various flavors all the way from the gay pool shark in the sports bar to Al Capone himself. Today he is the politician, the propagandist, the mover and shaker.
His illustration is the fellow in the grape-encrusted flashy velvet robe with the big necklace, in the throne with flowers and bulls-heads adorning it. His castle is in the background as he holds court and his big gold Pentacle.
Ace of Swords The naked blade holds aloft a crown which itself is crowned with laurel, the Roman symbol of victory in battle. Ace of Swords is not friendly. It is an order, dominating and domination, force and being forced: have to, must, gotta. There is the winner and the defeated: No compromise here.
