GUIDANCE The old man is always walking through the neighborhood, on the way home after a day’s work. He stands out in a crowd as someone who gets along at work and at home, with his warm and caring ways, someone everyone is happy with. A calm older man in whose presence everyone unconsciously sheds their issues, a Mister Rogers sort of guy who is the helpful friend. We are watching him today.

Hermit – An old man is on foot in the snow on a dark night. He carries a lamp to find travelers who could use his help. He takes them back to his hermitage, his monastery where he lives. All the characteristics of his story make meanings for Hermit and more. I will give the full account, quoted from a previous post, at the end of this.
.
Hermit comes to the aid, helps people, is sincerely warm and caring, a helpful and devoted friend.
.
Hermit is all about looking for. The lamp is all about seeing. Hermit applies to investigating, watching, witnessing, inspecting, and even surveillance.
.
Hermit is walking, is on a trip, is on his way. He can be about a journey or a trip. Today he is ‘walking distance’ even.
.
This is an elderly man, and Hermit (along with Emperor) can be an elderly man or person, or elderly people.
.
As a monk, Hermit applies to all sorts of virtues. Today he is sane, honest, sincere, calm, wise, caring, and patient.
.
Some other things Hermit represents are: to know, night, the night shift, and a medic or doctor – because Hermit’s robe are what doctors wore back in the day.
.
And now I reprint here something I wrote in a past post because it’s pithy and memorable:
.
“Hermit – You put a story together about an elderly monk who is a doctor who goes out on frigid mountain passes at night with a lamp to locate travelers, help them, and treat them to a warm bed and hot meal, and you have a lot of elements you can apply to your Tarot story. He is on the road, on a trip. He is also a guide, and a wise counselor. Hermit is sane, rational, logical. This card applies to objective and realistic perspectives.
Let’s talk about the meanings he uses in today’s story, shall we? He is an old man, so ‘elderly’ belongs to Hermit. He is helping people, is devoted. He is out looking, which covers ‘search’ and looking or watching, and which expands to ‘investigation’ and inspecting.
He is on foot, which brings you ‘pedestrian’ at times, and which also expands to ‘comes to’ – being the person who comes to another person. It is night time and he has a light, which brings any night scene, the word ‘night,’ and its synonyms, and also phrases about a flashlight or other light. (For instance, Hermit with Chariot can be night driving, or even the view from a car’s headlights.)
Hermit is a monk, so it can interpret as characteristics of a religious, including such virtues as: patient, calm, devoted, honest, values, and chastity (not being sexual) – which, these days, turns into being true to a lover, being straight, etc.
Hermit is also a friend, which grows naturally out of doing things for people – a helpful friend, a devoted friend.
Hermit is an old man, so this is the card for elderly man or men, or elderly people.
Not today, but Hermit is the main card for doctors and other medics. His clothes designate him as a doctor in the Middle Ages.
You know how people call someone who keeps to himself and minds his or her own business a hermit? Well, I can’t remember this card ever stepping up to that plate, but maybe you will live to see it? (There are several other cards that perfectly describe the mind-your-own-business homebody lifestyle, so Hermit doesn’t need that designation.)”
Eight of Pentacles – Today we use the three main meanings for Mr. Eight of Pentacles: (1) constant, steady, and always; (2) job and work; (3) increasingly and ‘more and more.’
Ten of Cups – You see the couple, the family, and the neighborhood in this picture. And those are the major Ten of Cups headline meanings.
In Tarot Verbatim™ it is one of three marriage cards, and each of those represent any kind and any size of group of people. Ten of Cups concentrates on good guys and good groups: it even means happiness, getting along, people you know like and trust: your community or their community. The well-adjusted people (but I hate that phrase). It translates ‘everyone’ too.
.
Ten of Cups is family, home life, family members, family reunion … and one big happy family. So it can be a good family relationship as well as a good marriage.
.
Ten of Cups is the neighborhood card, and one of the cards for single family home as real estate. The house, especially the house in a good neighborhood of course; and Six of Cups also means just that. It can be a building once in a while, as today when you have the inspector, and a job inspecting houses.

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..
Here are three normal-everyday-life Tarot cards, nothing esoteric. Can you see Hermit as Mr. Rogers and Ten of Cups as the neighborhood? – and Eight of Pentacles as ‘that’s what he routinely does’?
.
Eight of Pentacles is work, and Ten of Cups is home, so you think of working at home. And Ten of Cups is happy, so you think ‘ Happy at work.’ Ten of Cups is everybody, or a group of people, or a family, so ‘ Everyone at work’ or ‘ Working for family.’ Ten of Cups is marriage, so ‘ Working on the marriage.’
.
There’s no threat or drama to the stories these three cards tell. Hermit is looking, and Eight of Pentacles is doing the same thing over and over, so the subject of their stories tend to be Ten of Cups, which is happy, prosperous, and normal. The End.

GUIDANCE Things are changing on me again. Something I quit doing that way, I am back to doing that way, too. I quit and get on with something else, and the next thing you know, i am back to the same old thing. Progress turns out to be circular, and flux is a flexible foundation. I keep working every minute I’m there, and when I leave, I’m outta there. I don’t commute to work anymore either.

Knight of Swords – The sure things about Knight of Swords are: his hurry, his high energy level, his movement. See him go! Change is a leading meaning for Mr. Knight of Swords.
.
In the illustration, he is pursuing, chasing, running after – hot pursuit, even. That’s because he holds that heavy sword all the way up like that. But in real Tarot life, this Knight of Swords can mean all sorts of directions: He can be running away or fleeing. He commonly ‘returns’ and ‘leaves.’ He goes back and forth, as in commuting or driving by his lady-love’s house. He can be making a U-turn, which can translate ‘turnaround’ of a situation.
.
So how do you determine? – the surrounding cards, and the question you asked. (We don’t have questions or even questioners (querants) here.)
Knight of Swords goes back and forth, which can be about switching – switching anything. He leaves one lady or job or city or apartment for another. He switches sides. He doubles back. He comes back home.
(Frequent translates that DON’T have anything to do with moving on out for Mr. Knight of Swords are: suddenly, change, emergency, immediately, instantly. He is associated with forceful action … strike … and great effort because of this high energy you see in his illustration.
Eight of Cups – A pilgrim’s (the red robe) progress is disrupted by a mountain with a river by its side. So the pilgrim detours, but will resume course. (Note Knight of Swords also may come back or go back or return.) Eight of Cups is about unfinished business since it’s about dropping out in the middle.
.
A detour is an unexpected and abrupt surprise (no GPS back then), and it means you’re off-course. So Eight of Cups is about unexpected interruptions. It means last-minute; it means ‘drop everything’ and drop out. It means ‘Get it over with.’
.
Eight of Cups means to quit, because, yes, he quit going the way he intended. Eight of Cups gets to mean A. W. O. L. or ‘quit without notice’ this way, and gets to mean ‘unfinished’ this way, and gets to mean ‘abandon’ or ‘abort’ this way, as well as saying ‘without notice’ about any old thing. It also means the ‘leave’ part of A. W. O. L, Absent Without Official Leave. Eight of Cups says ‘That’s the end of that.’
.
Eight of Cups is the card for running off the road, missing your turn on the road, as well as for anything being canceled.
.
Watch for Eight of Cups to say ‘not anymore’ in a divided way: The ‘not,’ then the meaning of another card, and then the ‘anymore.’
.
Eight of Cups often means the end of one thing and the phasing in, or the beginning, of another. The sliver moon pasted onto the side of the full moon is how that’s expressed, and you see it elsewhere in Tarot (Moon). The moon in Eight of Cups also contributes ‘in the wee hours’ or ‘in the middle of the night.’
Eight of Pentacles – You are looking at a working man working. He is hammering repeatedly and making one identical item after another. First, Eight of Pentacles is anything at all to do with job, work, labor or profession; with workplace or work site; with workers, staff, or employees. Next is repeated items or actions: one thing at a time, one thing after another, keeping at (anything), consistent, constant, persistent, unremitting, steady.
.
Next is actually hands-on doing anything, or being the one (say, the worker, the doer) who is doing or has done whatever it is. (Magician too is associated with this ‘doing,’ and ‘being the one who does’ concept.)
.

Only three cards, and two of them are about abrupt change and leaving, and the other one says over and over. So we are about movement … fast movement even … and not about arriving or progress. The times, they are a-changin’, as the bard sang. Eight of Pentacles is all about work, so that puts our story there, in the absence of any other scene. We are about interruptions, disruptions, detours, switches and cancellations. We don’t do it that way, or we do it fast and get it over with.
.
The gist of our messages today is a heads-up about unexpected change that may be temporary but is swift too.

Advice today tells us good times are coming and is a culmination of the days and days of wise and heavy advice to get out of this and clear out of that. The upshot is that both work and social life will suddenly take a delightful turn, worth celebrating, and you will be enjoying the good life. The first card labels this as a prediction, for sure, for your future.
=========================================================================
Is this the first time you come here? Well … what to do:
*Go to Daily Message Tarot Analysis below. At least one of those sentences has something to say to you. Pick those out. They are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. (It is a group message like a horoscope, except Tarot isn’t based on someone else’s birth data, so it can be specific, accurate, detailed and direct. Our experiment here is “How much more accurate is it?”)
*Go to Advice to apply what those sentences say (in the best way) for you. (Advice is everyone’s favorite part.) Did you come here for your predictions? – You are done now – See you tomorrow.
The Question for weekdays is: “Tell the visitors here something useful and meaningful to them. The Question for weekends is stated right on top on those days. (Some days are ‘keep an eye open for’ and some days are ‘green light, go fast.’)
Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD
Again we have four fairly unrelated Tarot citizens, and again they say pretty similar things.
This is the ‘breakthrough’ that I said must be coming with the trend of heavier messages about clearing out of the bad stuff.
Two of Wands is a secure financial future, the future tense. This is how we get all the good preductions for the future in today’s messages.
Three of Cups is getting together with likeminded people or in a team at work, and enjoying what you are doing together. It is also prosperity and happiness and celebration.
So Two of Wands and Three of Cups both refer to being well-off and prosperous.
Eight of Wands is work and the things you do regularly.
So Three of Cups and Eight of Pentacles both can refer to work.
Eight of Cups is interruption or disruption or derailment, and means a sudden shift from one thing to another. It also presages a ‘not only but also’ sentence structure at times.
So obviously work is going to be worth celebrating, and this will happen out of the blue.
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS
Two of Wands refers to a future, a secure future, a financially secure future, and a plan or plans. Those are all of its meanings we use today. Pictured in Rider Waite Tarot is the big landowner or feudal lord overlooking his real estate holdings and making plans.
Three of Cups is a sharing of a commercial enterprise or sharing the company of likeminded comrades, happiness and joy and celebration … and prosperity of course. Pictured are three people drinking and toasting to their fine harvest at the farm. It is understood he girls will split the money equally. This card can mean girls at a place of work.
Eight of Pentacles is about work and things you do regularly, represented by the carpenter at his bench making one matching piece after the other.
Eight of Cups is a dropping of one direction which gets you into another – a shift or a turn. It is about disruption, derailment, interruption, and suggests sudden unexpected events. The idea is expressed by a pilgrim (Yeah, in red.) who is forced to make a turn because the road goes that way.

Advice contrasts personal life with business, is directed mostly to men, and is full of ‘don’ts’ today. How many ways can you say ‘Don’t flirt on the job’? Everyone, avoid making suggestions at work, keep its secrets, and don’t leave work early. On the personal side of the ledger, advice is ‘Don’t be such a good guy you get left,’ ‘Don’t flirt a lot with Other Women,’ and ‘Don’t pester the ladies.’ Be careful today!

Meanings and Illustrations: Observation of the Spread
A contrast exists between Eight of Pentacles and Eight of Cups – Eight of Pentacles meaning steadily doing something (which also means work) and Eight of Cups meaning something being interrupted, abrogated or abruptly ceased.
The remaining Rider Waite Tarot cards are the quiet lady (High Priestess) and the polite agreeable romantic fellow (Knight of Cups). Two people who are not assertive, who are very civilized.
A contrast exists between Eight of Cups (to rebuff; to walk away) and Knight of Cups (making an offer; being polite): an offer is rebuffed, and being polite and having someone walk away.
A contrast exists, sort of, between the polite romantic young man (Knight of Cups) and the lady who does not react and keeps to herself (High Priestess). High Priestess is also The Other Woman.
Meanings and Illustrations: Individual Rider Waite Tarot Cards
Eight of Pentacles is work, workplace, workman, employee, and repetitively doing anything (whether productive or not). Steadily, constantly, incessantly – adverbs like that. Construction work, of course, since the illustration shows a carpenter steadily making one identical tile after another.
Knight of Cups is the polite, agreeable, friendly or flirtatious fellow. He suggests, makes an offer or accepts (anything). He is civilized and generally young – young and sweet natured.
His illustration even has wings on his helmet and feet (Mercury the messenger) as his right arm offers a cup in friendship, a relaxed look on his face. His horse is relaxed too; he even has two of his legs lifted and his head down, showing off his pretty mane.
High Priestess is in repose with an occult book in her lap, which she knows every word of. Pomegranates are behind her and the pillars of the Kaballah (mercy vs severity).
Her main meaning is to know; she is the expert. She also often means to sit there in one place, to stay; or anything that stays put. She is the lady as well as The Other Woman. She is the expert. She is quiet, has secrets and keeps them.
Eight of Cups speaks of an unfinished course – course of action or course of direction, either one. It is about disruption, quitting, dropping out, abandoning, walking away, over with before it begins. An abrupt change like a draft notice.
Its illustration shows a lone traveler setting off in a different direction because the road forces that. The full and sliver moons are conjoined above him, once again suggestion a beginning is an ending.
Star
Eight of Cups, Hermit, Eight of Pentacles
Business Perspective (Work):
They avoid telling the truth at work.
To tell the truth, (Person) avoids work.
Looking for work, you abruptly find a job that makes you happy.
You are happy at work but looking for a change there.
You are sincerely praised at work, for a change.
Looking for happiness, you change jobs.
Person knows the shortcuts on the job and tells you, helps you.
The fact is, (Person) quit work to have a good time.
You can see that being an entertainer is anything but a steady job.
No glory comes from being honest at work.
(Person) is all talk – avoids honest work.
Things take a turn for the better in the job search.
Tell you to report for work immediately.
A shorter commute on the job makes you happy.
Happiness Perspective:
Working on a change in your life path seeking happiness.
You see a major change, a new course, and you are happy doing what you are doing.
You observe he isn’t busy making you happy anymore.
You see yourself not being busy making another happy anymore.
You can see how he avoids doing what would make you happy, every time.
Health Perspective:
You are making major changes to do the sensible things that make you healthy.
You quit doing something you always do, seeking to be healthy.
Your doctor keeps making changes until you are feeling really good.
Suddenly you see what really works for health and feeling good.
Romance Perspective:
All of a sudden, he keeps sincerely confessing his love.
He is making an honest effort to confess his love, finally.
Keeps saying “I love you” and is being honest for a change.
Abruptly acting how he really feels.
Hermit and Star both are sincerity and warm feeling. Hermit and Eight of Cups both refer to a journey walking – and one is a pilgrim and one is a monk. We begin with Eight of Cups which in Rider Waite commonly means: avoid, abruptly, change, quit, drop everything and immediately, suddenly. Then we have the Hermit, whose common meanings are to look, to seek, to find, to observe, sincerely, knows, the fact, honest. Then the Eight of Pentacles which is about work and what you are doing. We close with Star which is about talk, confessing love, praise, being happy and healthy, and even a performer.
The comment for your six months says things go well at work, things change for the better, and love is sincere. I’ll drink to that … after Lent.
Eight of Cups: Common phrases for this guy are: avoid, abruptly, change, quit, drop everything and immediately, suddenly. The picture shows what is supposed to be a pilgrim turning a forced corner in his course.
Hermit: He too is out at night walking on a journey. Hermit usually means to look, to seek, to find, to observe, sincerely, knows, the fact, honest.
Eight of Pentacles: Here’s the guy crafting one item after another. He is busy working at his bench. This is often about a steady effort and calls up phrases involving the word ‘keep’ and ‘keeping.’
Star: Health, happiness, to talk, to confess love, feeling good. The illustration shows a nude figure pouring something into a bathing pond.
