Four of Pentacles is internal (It even means internal organs!) and internalizing or containing one’s feelings and thoughts, and Four of Pentacles is feeling short of something and is holding onto that, clinging to it; it doesn’t have to be money. And it doesn’t even have to be factual or real-world: Four of Pentacles is internal, is feelings, especially deep feelings and suppressed feelings.
Five of Pentacles, on the other hand, has lost it all in the real external world, and is doing without, numb with misery. No hope. Awareness and insight are irrelevant in Five of Pentacles’ life. Both Five of Pentacles and Four of Pentacles are about missing something or someone, fairly often.
Star is all external, and all joy – feeling good all over like after a shower. Star is active – a performance. Star’s entrance onto the stage of our three-card Tarot theater here changes the play from pathos or tragedy to a happy-ending one. Star is The Rescue Card today: Star is as upbeat as its roommates are downbeat.
So what is the point of all this?: Our interior life has a lot more to do with *what we end up being and doing* than we are ready to admit even to ourselves. And the joy of living can be a product of having hit bottom. Not only that: The joy of living can drown out the miserable facts of an environment.
Four of Pentacles and Five of Pentacles have similar meanings, many of which overlap. Both are broke, both are about loss situations. Five of Pentacles is miserable all the time, and many of Four of Pentacles’ meanings are miserable or hurting. Together, these two cards are sad indeed. Both are quiet about it, and Four of Pentacles even means keeping a secret or keeping feelings secret. Neither are taking any action.
Four of Pentacles and Star have deep feelings. Four of Pentacles’ lips are sealed about them, and Star exuberantly talks about the feelings. Four of Pentacles is sulking; Star is enthusiastic. Four of Pentacles’ feelings are deep dark secrets and are likely to be downbeat; Star’s deep feelings, like Fool’s, are upbeat – and Star is spreading the joy about his or her views, feelings and beliefs. Four of Pentacles and Star together say: not telling, not admitting.
Four of Pentacles and Star Four of Pentacles keeps your secret (or his own); Star blabs it. Four of Pentacles doesn’t tell you; Star tells you all. Four of Pentacles isn’t listening, and Star’s emphasis may be on the hearing of what is said, rather than the saying of it. On a deeper level (which Four of Pentacles suggests), this spread is a picture of how we censor our environment based on our already-established beliefs: Four of Pentacles will have no part of the good news Star is crowing about. Having a dark world view shows you a dark world even at noon – that kind of thing. We act, as well as think, from how we color our world. And Star isn’t exposed to Five of Pentacles dark cloud, either – and would be oblivious to it.

Star A shapely woman performs a ritual bath. Star is a healthy happy person who is optimistically and exuberantly singing in the shower. Star is you feeling good all over; Star is positive energy. Star is expression, talk, explaining, presenting … Star is telling all, telling all about it. Star is saying ‘I love you’ and is love talk. Star is adoring someone and/or being adored. King of Cups
No shoulders hath he, and the fish around his neck tells you he is the softer man, the emotional man, the quiet man, maybe the weaker man, the bureaucratic type. He is the sweet guy, the good man, the affectionate man, he loves you, he is your honey, he is happy and content with his lot. He is the gentleman, the patient guy, and the drinking man. Aspected that way, he can be a neurotic type.
Star
Star feels good all over, is singing in the shower, is healthy and optimistic and has positive energy. Star is one who says ‘I love you’ and stands for love talk or adoring and being adored. Today we again have a pair of cards having the opposite tone of another pair:
Five of Pentacles and Queen of Swords are miserable about a loss and/or are miserable losers. Both of these describe doing without and missing. Queen of Swords is often missing someone and Five of Pentacles people are often missing their life – but both cards refer to both cases. They tend to translate as the same phrases along this vein of being deprived.
Queen of Swords is bitter, (nag – whiner – complainer – demanding) and she is also a reliable ‘bitch’ card, and feels very entitled to what she is doing without. Her outstretched hand is saying “NOW would be good.” She represents Mama-Bat or the ex. She can be a widow or a woman who lost a baby.
But sometimes Queen of Swords is a strong woman, is holding someone up to her standards. This card can be advice to be more demanding, more the bitch.
King of Cups and Star are emotionally healthy, especially star. King of Cups is the calm type but he can be neurotic in the right company … can’t we all? Both King of Cups and Star are about positive emotional love. King of Cups is the quiet, patient, affectionate man who can also be a drinker – the bureaucratic type, I call it.
King of Cups and Star When you put King of Cups and Star together, an affectionate man is saying ‘I love you’ because Star means to talk, and specifically to say ‘I love you’ and ‘You’re beautiful.’ These two cards in Tarot Verbatim™ say ’emotionally healthy.
Star and Queen of Swords When you put Star and Queen of Swords together, you have a complaining, nagging, unpleasant (old?) woman chattering away, regaling you with her gripes. Queen of Swords is lacking the joy Star has.
Five of Pentacles and Star Five of Pentacles is poor health but Star is vibrant health. Five of Pentacles is miserable, and Star is joy. Together, these two can say ’emotionally sick’ or emotionally drained.
Five of Pentacles and King of Cups is an emotional drain, whereas, King of Cups and Star is emotionally healthy.

The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!
