Tarot Verbatim
GUIDANCE I don’ t know what to say about it: It’s such a mess. Would not think such a nice-looking guy was so nasty. He is a pervert and doesn’t think so. I paid no attention when he told me his vice, and I forgot what I said to the s.o.b. Oh, I had no idea what a wrong thing to say that was!

Fool – This is a Tarot card I could write a book about. Being the ‘0’ (the zero) of the deck is a very big thing! Today Fool (which can be a very theoretical influence in your spreads) is pinned down to physical subject by his two spread-mates here. (Both of them can even translate ‘physical.’) So today fool uses only four branches from his meaning tree: to be unaware or forget or not know; to assume; to pay no attention or disregard or ignore; to assume.
.
That’s it for Fool for today. You see him in his portrait here doing exactly the things the card refers to: blithely ignoring a hazard and proceeding lightheartedly.
Page of Wands – You see a proud young well-dressed fellow standing up straight presenting himself to the world, eager to please, to fit in. Pages, as apprentice knights, were like that. Page of Wands is talking in his picture, and he is one of the man speak/tell/say tribe members. Most of his words and phrases here are from that category of his.
.
There’s an emphasis on his body as well as his personality and character being in good shape: He is handsome, and he is fit, and he is also a good guy.
.
Page of Wands fairly often means to be physically present. Think of that as combining his ‘physical’ meanings with the fact he is an identity card.
.
Identity cards (Page of Pentacles is another, and Magician to a lesser extent) can frequently simply translate pronouns, can translate whatever trait is associated with that card, or can combine both the trait and the pronoun. For example, Page of Wands her can be ‘person,’ can be ‘he,’ can be a word that describes how he is good, looks good, or is in good shape physically, and also can combine those so that you have ‘A handsome Prince Charming type guy tells you.’ Which reminds me: This particular Page of Wands card can say ‘type of person,’ and so can Page of Pentacles.
Devil – One of Devil’s tamer meanings is ‘physical,’ and it means other innocuous words too. Today Page of Wands usurps the ‘physical,’ leaving Devil to his unappetizing categories of meanings. ‘Sick’ and ‘ugly’ is the best he can do today. Oh, well.
.
Devil can translate cuss words because, well, that is the way we express what is exceptionally disgusting. ‘S.o.b.’ and the word ‘cussing’ appear for Devil today.
.
The way the naked couple is chained (voluntarily attached) to Mr. Devil gives him sexual a bad-sexual meanings like these, today: having sex with, sex, and pervert.
.
Devil is an obstacle, a problem, trouble, and this card shares those words with some others that are more specific. Devil is a very general grab-bag sort of Tarot card: you let it fit in with the other cards in your spread because it could mean so many things.
.
Here are some general not-nice meanings you can use Devil for: wrong, vice, evil, worst, mess, nasty, ugly, bad shape, demon. We used these today.

… .. ….. ……..….
.
We are full of same-meanings and opposite-meanings in this particular spread, which makes it easy to see contradictory meanings. In real Tarot life, you look to the question, the surrounding cards, and the story line that is established to determine which interpretation to use.
.
Here are some of these – I hope all of them! First, re Fool and Page of Wands: Both Fool and Page of Wands are young. Page of Wands is present in person; Fool is not present. Page of Wands has something to say and is saying it; Fool isn’t paying attention.
.
Next, re Fool and Devil: Fool is free and unburdened; Devil is bound and binding. Fool is lighthearted and optimistic; Devil is bad feelings and feeling bad.
.
Next, re Page of Wands and Devil: Devil is a bad guy; Page of Wands is a good guy. Page of Wands is good-looking; Devil is ugly. Page of Wands is in good shape; Devil is in bad shape.
.
You can observe the assumption we are all prone to that a person who looks good, a person who acts good, a person who talks a good game … is a good person. Tarot is presenting that assumption here. “ Assume a bad guy who speaks well and dresses well is a good guy,” this spread is saying.
.
Today’s spread is also a trove of literal-but-unexpected phrases of a pair of Tarot cards. Here they are, with the cards identified for you:
Not being present (Fool) in person (Page of Wands).
Nothing (Fool) seriously wrong (Devil).
Don’t even think of (Fool) having sex with (Devil).
Demons (Devil) don’t acknowledge the existence of (Fool) .
A speech (Page of Wands) impediment (Devil).
Assume (Fool) the worst (Devil).

If you don’t pay attention, you find yourself assuming that a person who talks well, dresses well, and acts good is a good person. He has a speech impediment? – we tend to ignore him. He is a handsome devil who dresses well? – he talks us into sex before we even know it. Today we present Devil as a handsome young man.
