Tarot Readings for You for July 21, 2015 Tuesday©
GUIDANCE Waiting for the change, and the change is stalled, like the torpor of having no wind when you’re out in a sailboat. We are in the anteroom of a new birth in our spirit. We are time out on a vision quest. We are neither here nor there, like thinking how difficult it would be to change our mind. We are resting up to get over a physical … or mental … or spiritual sickness. In a deep sleep as the alarm goes off.

TAROT READINGS: MEDITATE AND REALIZE (FOUR OF SWORDS AND JUDGMENT)
Meditate for as long as it takes to have your vision.
Spiritual awakening comes when you are overwhelmed and out of commission.
Nothing is happening, but I feel new life coming, and we are overdue for it.
Finally, I have a whole different perspective on being indifferent.
The minute you see what is wearing you down, you disengage from it.
The huge effort I am making to be different from what I am used to.
After all I have gone through, I now realize ‘Just let it be.’
TAROT READINGS: SLOW CHANGE (TEN OF WANDS AND JUDGMENT)
Just wait, a lot of changes are coming.
Such a slow recovery, but there’s nothing more to do for it.
The new phase eventually will be established.
Whether it’s a slow or a fast change doesn’t matter.
We did not switch back then, and now it’s much harder.
Stay put through the hard times and be there for the recovery.
The change is so slow it’s not happening.
TAROT READINGS: DEEP SLEEP (FOUR OF SWORDS AND TEN OF WANDS)
A lot of sleep, and I recover.
So tired I slept through the alarm.
TAROT READINGS: STAYING THAT WAY FOREVER (FOUR OF SWORDS AND TEN OF WANDS)
Waiting … forever … for a call.
You said it would be a while, so I am taking a nap.
Isn’t responding because it’s too difficult to call.
Promoted, and staying indefinitely.
TAROT READINGS: LYING AROUND PUTTING UP WITH IT (FOUR OF SWORDS AND TEN OF WANDS)
Sudden realization I have been lying around doing nothing way too long.
Inspired to get up and out after being very sick in bed.
Lying here thinking how much trouble it would be to change my mind.
All of a sudden I see I have put up with things way too long.
I have turned into someone who will put up with way too much.
TAROT READINGS: GOING BACK WOULD BE TOO MUCH (TEN OF WANDS AND JUDGMENT)
Not going back, ever, ever.
I sense that going back will be overwhelming, so I’m not going to.
Realize you will be coming back to more than you can stand, and just stay put.
TAROT READINGS: THINGS THAT DIDN’T GET TO BE (FOUR OF SWORDS AND TEN OF WANDS)
You don’t get to say it all.
Took forever to realize how turned off I was.
It’s depressing that they say they’re not going to do anything about it.

Four of Swords – Ten of Wands – Judgment

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES
.………..
……….
.……..…….. Looking at these, I said to myself ‘We’ve got a problem, Houston.’ Two of the three Rider Waite Tarot cards in our spread mean waiting and nothing’s happening, (Four of Swords and Ten of Wands) and the other means a change (Judgment). How are we going to have a change if nothing’s happening? Reminds me of Leonard Cohen’s song ‘Waiting For the Miracle to Come.’ So I had to drill down more deeply.
Sentences like ‘I have turned into someone who will put up with way too much’ and ‘Nothing is happening, but I feel new life coming, and we are overdue for it,’ and ‘Finally, I have a whole different perspective on being indifferent’ floated to the surface. I realized that, in his present company, Four of Swords is incubating a new phase. Judgment is the new phase. ‘Incubating’ is a good word for Four of Swords. I think this is the first time I used it, but I’m not sure. And incubating a new phase is today’s topic.
And I noticed that Four of Swords is lying there and Judgment is getting up, and that both of these cards picture coffins. Put them together, and you have someone sleeping through an alarm, and someone who is indifferent to change – someone who isn’t participating in the resurrection, who is indifferent to his or her new spiritual birth. Someone who is ‘letting the world turn without me tonight.’
But you also have someone who is jumping up from that prone position with a whole new perspective. Judgment is that rebirth experience. (Reminding myself once again that, without a question and without a person asking it, Tarot produces diametrically opposite statements, rearranging the elements of the story that way. It’s the nature of Tarot and, if you think about it, the nature of life. I, too, can rearrange the elements of my today’s experience by adopting a new perspective.
So our Four of Swords and our Ten of Wands are both waiting. Four of Swords isn’t participating, is refraining from action, is just lying around. Ten of Wands is overwhelmed, overloaded, depressed, has too much to do and it’s too hard – very slow progress. But he does have progress, and Four of Swords isn’t showing any signs of that.
Four of Swords’ disengagement and indifference, in this present company, suggest ‘letting it be’ and ‘sitting this one out,’ suggest the ennui of someone who has been there and done that, and is now seeing others in the throes of what he or she has already graduated from – and Judgment is a graduation experience.
So Judgment, of course, is the key card here. Judgment is the butterfly emerging, enlightenment and salvation, that the other cards have to modify to make a story. So the story is: indifference to awakening; waiting for the new birth, new perspective; or the long-awaited graduation happening.

Four of Swords……. Four of Swords is waiting. You see a fellow stretched out in a death pose on a coffin container, and I tell you it’s not a death card. Well, it is a support card for that theme once the theme is established. Four of Swords is about time out, about meditating on something (your life purpose, especially), about a vision quest. That is what the fellow is doing, letting the world turn without him tonight. He needs to present a vision he had about his life purpose as a knight, to convince the bishop he deserves to be one … because the bishop bestows knighthood. You see that bishop with a cushion to hold the crown of the dead king in Death … because the bishop crowns the king too.
In real life, Four of Swords applies to disengagement, not participating, time out, resting up, not interested, napping or just sleeping, lying down and being quiet in illness, going numb, and sidelining oneself during a life shift. Watch for Four of Swords to refer to novenas, retreats, rehabilitation programs and such.
Four of Swords is one of the ‘not acting’ cards that tells you someone isn’t going to do, or isn’t doing, something (or that something isn’t being done, of course). It can be about the lying-around kind of inactivity of someone who is depressed or shattered … or just lazy, a couch potato. ‘Dead to the world’ and ‘out of it’ are occasional Four of Swords phrases. It can be about indifference, about being unresponsive … including the medical kind of ‘unresponsive,’ which stretches from being unresponsive to treatment to being in a coma. If you ask about autopsy or necropsy, Four of Swords is likely to show up.
Today I rediscovered Four of Swords as being the quiet period that precedes a major life shift or major life-changing enlightenment – the calm thinking that goes before the storm of new perspective – as being the incubation period.
Ten of Wands……..Ten of Wands is saying ‘too much to bear’ or ‘taking on too much,’ slow progress and slow going. Always remember that the small word ‘too’ is all Ten of Wands says in your readings sometimes. ‘Too’ applies to too-anything: too long, too difficult, too slow, too much; and it also says extremely and totally, in the same way. Like Ten of Wands and Nine of Cups is getting more than you wanted, having too much money … the ‘Be careful what you wish for’ territory.
Ten of Wands is part of the depression theme. It refers to being overwhelmed and being ‘in overwhelm.’ In this theme, it also refers to the slowing down, the groaning we feel, when we are in the depressed and overwhelmed territory. Then it makes phrases like: a long hard road ahead, get in over your head, the hard way, barely making it, the worst of times, pulled through the worst of it, deep grief, strain, more than (I) can take, downside, tired of, hard times, long drawn-out, a project that takes forever because there is so much to it, onerous task, putting up with too much, dragging out, backbreaking. Ten of Wands is deep-diving and getting the bends.
But don’t feel sorry for Ten of Wands, and don’t feel sorry for yourself when you are Ten-of-Wandsing. All this overload is saving time! – because Ten of Wands is when you decide to do it all in one trip, to save a trip. And you do save a trip. That’s where Ten of Wands translates finally. Ten of Wands is taking it all on, and going all out – getting down … getting down and in, covering every last speck of whatever it is – not just learning but getting inside the subject and looking out of its eyes so it is all yours from now on … the Masters Degree level. That is the kind of effort you see here. This is why Ten of Wands translates ‘everything’ and ‘whole hog’ sometimes.
Judgment……Judgment reminds me of the alarm clock that startles me out of my dream: the sudden awakening, and the shift from the sleep plane to the activity plane. Judgment is the awakening and the new phase. Its illustration refers to the dead waking up when the angel’s horn announces Judgment Day. (Each element of that sentence is a branch of Judgment’s meaning tree.)
This change to a new life or new phase applies all over the place. These are meanings, not just today’s, that arise from the people emerging from their graves, and I have taken the time to put the meanings in categories:
Sudden: sudden, sudden change, unexpected, surprise, sudden realization, pops up, eureka.
New Phase: new phase, new lease on life, new life, new way, new perspective, promotion, graduation, rebirth, re-live, re-play, revitalization, regenerate, start over, switches to.
Second Time: again, another, next, going back to, return, reconnect, reminder, a second time something happens, returning to a former state, bouncing back, resurrecting, reviving (including as in CPR), recovery and getting over it, revive
Awakening and Realizing: realization, discover, shocking, amazing, life-changing. And on a spiritual level: enlightenment, eureka, revelation, salvation, vision or epiphany.
Many of the ‘realization’ meanings are shared with Hanged Man. Note that Judgment’s change is for the better, since it’s about not being dead anymore.
Judgment applies to any kind of waking up or awakening. It can mean phrases like ‘got my life back.’
Note that Judgment has a plethora (a lot) of meanings that begin in the prefix ‘re-‘. Since Judgment is about it happening again, it does join the theme of repeated action or repeated motion, along with Two of Pentacles, Eight of Pentacles and Eight of Wands.
The loud noise – loud enough to waken the dead, as they say – is another branch of Judgments meaning tree. We have literal loud noises, like hollering, music too loud, musical instruments, vehicle horns, sirens and other alarm indicating sounds, and commotions. ‘Honked off’ joins these.
The big announcement that gets everyone’s attention is also a branch. Here we have news, announcements of a legal nature (including written ones, like a Writ of Mandamus, which comes from a higher court to a lower one), publicity, press releases, and a public announcement, say, at an airport about flights.
Part of the ‘big announcement’ branch is communication. Judgment is one of the tell/say theme cards, which include phrases like ‘what was said’ and ‘what I heard,’ ‘verbally,’ confess, repeat, and, of course, ‘say it again.’ Judgment means communication generally, which includes the word ‘communication.
Judgment is a legal card which of course can be that literal word. It can mean the serving of papers, or a verdict or decree.
Judgment also can be literally about an angel. Lovers and Temperance also feature angels.
