Ace of Cups – The is the most opaque illustration in the Rider Waite deck. The dove is Holy Spirit, and it holds the wafer of holy communion in its beak, depositing it into a fountain whose five streams splash into a large body of water representing mass conscious. So Ace of Cups represents God’s presence flowing from one human to all the others. Its application is wider than you would think.
.
The obvious meanings would be God and divinity, and flow – just looking at the illustration. In real Tarot life, Ace of Cups appears to represent these things today: good; easy (the flow); love, especially from a female perspective; unconditional love; peace; health and healing; mass consciousness; safe; leak; accepted; benefit; spiritual.
.
Ace of Cups means ‘female’ too, if you ask the gender of something or someone.
High Priestess – High Priestess is another religious/spiritual/esoteric Rider Waite Tarot card. The symbolism is from Kabbalah: the pomegranates and the two pillars labeled ‘B’ and ‘J.’ The pillars represent the Severity/justice and the Mercy aspect of judgment, and are mentioned in the Old Testament as being on either side of the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies in the Jewish temple. They are seen in Kabbalah too. The woman in our illustration wears the crown of monarchs of ancient Egypt. Also, as the ‘2’ of the Major Arcanae of Tarot, High Priestess represents the feminine principle of receptivity, of knowing and non-action. (Magician, the ‘1,’ is the reverse.) This is the background from which the meanings of High Priestess arise.
.
So in Tarot practice High Priestess means female and phrases involved in that, such as (today): girls, lady, feminine, private lady, woman stays home.
.
This card actually represents the deck and its message. (That is why you find instructions that you can choose any card but this one to represent yourself as the Self card.) Note the book in the lady’s lap says ‘TARO’ in capital letters. You find that in Wheel of Fortune written in a circle so that it says ROTA as well. High Priestess appears for a person who is psychic, but doesn’t appear (at least that I remember) for the word ‘psychic.’
.
The reason High Priestess is receptive and not active on the physical plane is that, as the ‘2,’ she represents the feminine principle, which is active on the spiritual plane and passive on the physical. This gets exacting; it is esoteric, and I may be off-kilter here. Anyway, High Priestess will appear for the word ‘spiritual’ and will refer to the spiritual plane and things spiritual. High Priestess will also translate ‘quiet’ because she does not take initiative, and so is more the keeper of knowledge.
.
High Priestess does not take initiative – so much so that this card means being private and staying home – staying put and not socializing, and also being sedentary or passive. (A number of other cards are also females who keep to themselves in various ways.) Once in a while, High Priestess will come up for a female in a wheelchair, even. Today these phrases are examples: home, the woman stays home, in a quiet homeplace, where you live, being sedentary, she is staying, not to get involved.
.
High Priestess is She Who Knows All. She is the data bank. So this card belongs to the ‘know’ tribe in Tarot. Today, for example, this card translates: data bank, expert, expertise, she understands.
Hanged Man – That moment you ‘got it,’ that ‘click’ in your mind when either you put two and two together, or they collided in your head. Think déjà vu. Think lipstick on the collar. Think ‘so that’s why he did that!’ Realization, vision, intuition, ‘a feeling’ being ‘turned on’ – things like that are Hanged Man moments. Awakening.
.
In a more general way, Hanged Man simply means an intense feeling: instinct; an urge. Hanged Man translates both ‘intense’ and ‘feeling.’
.
Hanged Man also is one of the ‘know’ cards. Today it means mental, an inkling, a brilliant idea, or an idea, realizing and recognized.
.
Hanged Man is the paranormal card. It means extrasensory experiences and insights, and the moment of visionary realizations. It means enlightenment, vision, tapping into ‘out there’ and intuition or hunches. Why does it mean all that? – well, Hanged Man reflect the stories, in several cultures, of the hero or protagonist hanging himself on a tree for three days and sacrificing a body part or body function for ‘insight,’ and ‘insight’ is paranormal abilities and knowledge.
.
.
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..
… .. ….. … .
Ace of Cups and High Priestess both are cards that mean ‘female’ in various ways. Ace of Cups and High Priestess also both mean ‘spiritual.’ Since Ace of Cups is love, and High Priestess is a woman, together they say ‘ love a woman’ or ‘ a woman loves.’
.
High Priestess and Hanged Man both mean knowing, and ideas, and the mental plane. The knowing can refer to esoteric knowing or simply awareness of something or other – for both these cards, of course. So we can say ‘An expert’s ( High Priestess) brilliant ideas ( Hanged Man) are accepted ( Ace of Cups). The three cards can also say ‘ Recognized ( Hanged Man) and accepted ( Ace of Cups) as an expert ( High Priestess).’
.
Ace of Cups is love; Hanged Man is intense feeling or being turned on; High Priestess is the feminine woman, the quiet lady. So these three cards are a love story. In a similar vein, since Ace of Cups is God, and Hanged Man is a vision or enlightenment, and High Priestess is a quiet contemplative life or a spiritually oriented person, we also have the story of devotion to God. So she ( High Priestess, which sometimes simply translates ‘ she’ as the feminine principle) is a godly woman, or she has a vision ( Hanged Man) about God. These three cards can also say ‘ A vision ( Hanged Man) of the divine ( Ace of Cups) feminine ( High Priestess). How about that?
.
Hanged Man is the card for psychic abilities like telepathy, and High Priestess is the card for spiritual expertise. Hence we have ‘ Telepathy is easy ( Ace of Cups) for someone with spiritual expertise ( High Priestess).’
.
Ace of Cups is health. High Priestess is spiritual. Hanged Man is mental. So together they can say ‘ Mental and spiritual health’ or ‘ Mental health through spiritual means.’ High Priestess is spiritual and Ace of Cups is healing, so ‘ Spiritual healing is an intense experience (Hanged Man).
. ……. ….. ……. ..
.
AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:
.
Ace of Cups and High Priestess both are cards that mean ‘female’ in various ways. Ace of Cups and High Priestess also both mean ‘spiritual.’ Since Ace of Cups is love, and High Priestess is a woman, together they say ‘love a woman’ or ‘a woman loves.’
.
High Priestess and Hanged Man both mean knowing, and ideas, and the mental plane. The knowing can refer to esoteric knowing or simply awareness of something or other – for both these cards, of course. So we can say ‘An expert’s (High Priestess) brilliant ideas (Hanged Man) are accepted (Ace of Cups). The three cards can also say ‘Recognized (Hanged Man) and accepted (Ace of Cups) as an expert (High Priestess).’
So she (High Priestess, which sometimes simply translates ‘she’ as the feminine principle) is a godly woman, or she has a vision (Hanged Man) about God. These three cards can also say ‘A vision (Hanged Man) of the divine (Ace of Cups) feminine (High Priestess). How about that?
.
Hanged Man is the card for psychic abilities like telepathy, and High Priestess is the card for spiritual expertise. Hence we have ‘Telepathy is easy (Ace of Cups) for someone with spiritual expertise (High Priestess).’
.
Ace of Cups is health. High Priestess is spiritual. Hanged Man is mental. So together they can say ‘Mental and spiritual health’ or ‘Mental health through spiritual means.’ High Priestess is spiritual and Ace of Cups is healing, so ‘Spiritual healing is an intense experience (Hanged Man).
. ……. ….. …… . ..
.
.
.
.…..………..
The spiritual and mental aspects of love and healing are what is on our minds and hearts today. It’s easy to think of healing as procedures and techniques and substances that affect us, but believing in them actually often is stronger than the things themselves. It’s easy to think of love as its physical and emotional and social aspects, but why do you call it soulmate at its best?

Tarot Verbatim
Guidance The contemplative person takes action. Inspired insight occurs to the active person. These two things create a balance. Thought without action is as impotent as action without thought. Activity on the spiritual plane depletes the physical body of energy but produces informed and inspired action. Mental work depletes the body of energy too, but produces great inspired ideas about what to do. In the same way, awareness you need money inspires you to activity! Flashes of spiritual realization occur when you exhaust yourself.

.
High Priestess and Hanged Man converge: Both mean awareness and both can be paranormal awareness. Spiritual and mental acute awareness, they say when they appear together in public like this. Spiritual (High Priestess) insight (Hanged Man), or spiritual vision, since Hanged Man is visionary. Visionary (Hanged Man) wisdom (High Priestess). High Priestess is a fount of knowledge: See the book in her lap? An inspired idea is striking Hanged Man: He is realizing that. Note neither of these Tarot cards are talking about or dispensing what they know.
High Priestess and Magician converge: High Priestess is the Feminine Principle of receptivity, knowing, and knowingness, metaphysical wisdom and spiritual expertise. Knowing without acting.
Magician is the Masculine Principle. The Masculine Principle is activity: Acting without knowing. To do, to make, to be the one who does, to bring about or bring down. Metaphysics defines magic as will (willpower, intent), and Magician is creating what he wills, what he wants to come about … or to not come about.
The metaphysical gospel says the Masculine and Feminine principles converge to produce a result, and there is a whole lot to that concept.
High Priestess and Magician, or Hanged Man and Magician In our spread, Magician is acting upon the knowledge of High Priestess or the inspiration and insight of Hanged Man.
Five of Pentacles is Dark Night of the Soul, another spiritual card that stands for the exhaustion, the empty desolate despair that is a phase of spiritual life. After a peak experience, you know so much more that you are hypercritical of who you just were. (It passes, and you get to work – which Magician represents in this spread. (Actually, all four of these cards have a metaphysical side.)
But not to worry, we found some romantic applications for these four too. High Priestess and Hanged Man have quite the rapport going.

High Priestess High Priestess represents the feminine principle of being receptive and passive on the physical plane, and active on the spiritual plane. This card in Tarot Verbatim™ means the spiritual plane. She is sedentary or stationary. High Priestess indicates a woman who isn’t doing, isn’t going anywhere, and isn’t taking initiative. Quite often, this card in Tarot Verbatim™ translates ‘she.’ It means a single woman, a woman alone, a lady, and a quiet classy woman, and even a bookkeeper because of the book in her lap, or a secretary. She knows all, which brings up expertise, or an expert, research, data bank. Being quiet, along with the metaphysical expertise, often makes this card mean knowing and not telling – being secretive. High Priestess is studious and contemplative, quite often.
Five of Pentacles Out in the cold. Numb with despair, a mother and son who are in rags, wounded, in a blizzard, pass by the cathedral where shelter for the night and dinner await them. Homeless. Miserable. The core idea is depletion, doing without, not having enough (being broke) as well as being sick, feeling sick and exhausted, feeling self-pity. Magician takes initiative, takes action, makes it happen, does. He is the one who does (it). Action as opposed to just thinking or talking about it. Exercising willpower. The male way. He is pictured in the act of making something happen, the tools of the magician’s trade on the table there. This card often produces any form of the verbs ‘do’ and ‘make.’

Four Card Spreads, Tarot Verbatim
Advice The contemplative person takes action. Inspired insight occurs to the active person. These two things create a balance. Thought without action is as impotent as action without thought. Activity on the spiritual plane depletes the physical body of energy but produces informed and inspired action. Mental work depletes the body of energy too, but produces the great inspired idea about what to do. In the same way, awareness you need money inspires you to activity! Flashes of spiritual realization occur when you exhaust yourself.
Is this the first time you come here? Well … what to do:
*Go to Advice above which is a summary of the Messages. (Advice is everyone’s favorite part.)
*Go to Group Analytical Tarot Reading below. One or more of those sentences has something to say to you. Intuitively pick those out and decide whether to encourage or suppress them. They are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. (It is a group message like a horoscope, except Tarot isn’t based on someone else’s birth data, so it can be specific, accurate, detailed and direct. Our experiment here is “How much more accurate is it?”)
Did you come here for your predictions? – You are done now – See you tomorrow.
Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

His intuition is, he does not have enough money to make it with this classy lady.
She has an aha moment that he is making himself miserable.

She knows he does that because he sorely lacks insight.
He senses how tired she gets of him doing that.
He realizes she gets depressed about doing that herself.
Spiritual Perspective (High Priestess + Hanged Man)
An acute awareness on the spiritual plane numbs you to acting on the physical plane.
Psychic awareness on the spiritual plane leaves you too tired to get anything done.
When he does deep mental activity, it drains him to exhaustion.
Flashes of spiritual realization when he exhausts himself.
Not Enough, Need, Lack, Tired, Depleted (Five of Pentacles)
Is aware what to do when she needs money.
Inkling he lacks the research to get this done.
Inspiration about what you don’t know enough about to make this happen.
Deja vu: When she does that she makes herself miserable.
Mental activity is mental energy at the expense of the body’s energy.
Realizes being sedentary makes you tired, and gets doing something.
Sitting tires you out and gives you the idea to go do something.
Now, Part Two,
Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim ™ thing works? If so,
*Go to Meanings and Illustrations: Observation of the Spread section below. This tells about the combined four pictures in the Daily Spread – the pictures above here. It explains how these four cards get together to mean things.
*Go to Meanings and Illustrations: Individual Rider Waite Tarot Cards. It is what each of the four cards, by itself, has to say. It describes how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in this Spread.
You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim ™ works.
Say hello back! Comment! I spend two hours a day or more writing these to you. Remember to share your experience about our experiment here if you have words for it. Read others’ comments.
And you can call me at the 800 99 3 6 9 12 number from Eastern 1 p. m. to Eastern 1 a. m. at least, every day. (3-6-9-12 like a clock. It makes a pattern on the phone as well – easy to remember.) I analyze business situations and personal relationships accurately from both Tarot and practical perspectives, and even make it fun. (Testimonials are on the web site https://EmilysInsight.com.)
Magician
High Priestess – Five of Pentacles – Hanged Man
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD
A convergence of High Priestess with Hanged Man – spiritual and mental acute awareness, spiritual insight, visionary wisdom. A convergence of High Priestess and Magician – the female principle and the male principle. Trapped in between is Dark Night of the Soul, exhaustion, being drained. (And of course Magician stands in as acting upon the awareness or insight.) Whew!
But not to worry, we found some romantic applications for these four too.
The feminine principle is receptivity, knowing and knowingness, wisdom and occult/spiritual expertise. (Knowing without acting) The masculine principle is activity – to do, to make, to bring down or bring about. (Acting without knowing) Occult gospel is that these two principles get together and create an entity that connects to the next plane down, and a whole nest of triangles represents … I guess all that is. Anyway, that is what the whole feminine and masculine principle thing is, and it’s the big underlying foundational assumption of occultism, as far as I know. (Someday I will read up more thoroughly on it.)
Anyway, we have a message that is about knowing and awareness and insight all over the place, even (of course) in the romantic messages because half the cards are that.
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS
High Priestess The ‘B’ and ‘J’ pillars stand for justice and mercy that represent extremes in the Kaballah ideology from the Jewish tradition. She knows all, is wise, and is not engaged in activity. So she means ‘she,’ a single woman or woman by herself. She comes up as a lady or classy lady and as a sedentary woman or bookkeeper (the book in her lap). She represents an expert or expertise, research, and also the spiritual plane itself. Contemplative. It’s embarrassing how often this Rider Waite Tarot card just means ‘she.’
Five of Pentacles Numb with despair, they say, and this is it. Homeless and so out-of-it that they pass unknowingly by a place (cathedral) that has shelter for them. Dark Night of the Soul, a stage of spiritual development that recurs. The core idea is depletion, doing without, not having enough (being broke) as well as being sick, feeling sick, feeling self-pity. Here are the phrases it produces today:
not enough
needs money
feeling left out
not enough money
miserable
hurts her feelings deeply
sickens her
sorely lacks
how tired she gets
depressed
numbs
too tired to get anything done
drains him to exhaustion
exhausts
lack the
don’t ___ enough
at the expense of
tired
tires you
Hanged Man The experience that, yes, you knew that. Duh! It produces that disoriented upside-down feeling. Realize is the most common word for Hanged Man. Here are some others from today’s messages:
It strikes him
Knowing/realizes
realizing
his intuition is,
aha moment
He gets it
eureka experience
insight
senses how
acute awareness
psychic awareness
deep mental
spiritual realization
is aware
inkling
inspiration
Deja vu
Mental activity
gives you the idea
Magician takes initiative, takes action, makes it happen, does. He is the one who does (it). Action as opposed to contemplation. The male way. He is pictured in the act of making something happen, the tools of the magician’s trade on the table there. This card often means any form of the verbs ‘do’ and ‘make.’
Four Card Spreads, Our Daily Spread, Tarot Verbatim
A eureka moment strikes of how poor in spirit you are, yet how competent you are in ‘real life’
Five of Pentacles
High Priestess, Queen of Wands, Hanged Man
An intense spiritual realization of how you miss your wife.
A eureka moment strikes of how poor in spirit you are, yet how competent you are in ‘real life.’
A spiritual vision is very draining to her orderly physical life.
She is so tired she is ‘seeing things’ from her subconscious during her day.
Realizes how little money the wife runs the house on: She is an expert at that.
Wife senses there is another woman and is miserable.
She is very quiet around the manager, feels intensely inferior.
She is very quiet around the woman of the house, feels intensely inferior.
She experiences the spiritual/mental plane(s) so intensely it impairs her physical plane existence.
The two women realize they are outcasts.
Two cards that strongly refer to spiritual expertise and awareness are the High Priestess and the Hanged Man. The competent manager or housewife-mother is between them, and that card refers to the physical plane. Crowning them all is the ‘poor in spirit.’ It also means to be or feel inferior, miserable, and/or drained.
The story contrasts physical competence with spiritual competence (Queen of Wands with High Priestess), physical awareness with spiritual awareness (Queen of Wands and Hanged Man). Hanged Man is an intense experience, sometimes a eureka (Aha!) realization. In addition, the High Priestess is the Other Woman and the Queen of Wands is the Wife. Then the Five of Pentacles speaks of being drained, miserable, inferior.
Advice? It’s really a comment about one’s own inner thoughts about one’s ‘real life’ and one’s worldly life. If there is advice, it’s to be aware of your own spiritual side and feed it.
Meanings and Illustrations:
High Priestess: Spiritual expertise, awareness and knowledge, spiritual secrets. To be a thinker not a doer. She just sits there with the symbols of spiritual occult symbols all around her.
Queen of Wands is the polar opposite of High Priestess. She is the one who runs the place, be it business or home. She is the mama, the wife. Very practical, very physical plane. She has an alert look on her face, sunflowers growing nearby, and a cat.
Hanged Man: Well, we talked about him already. He refers to awareness, to subconscious realizations and eureka moments in which the subconscious kicks a fully fleshed-out idea onto the floor the the theater of consciousness. He is the male counterpart, so to speak, of High Priestess.
Five of Pentacles: A deficit, a lack, inferior and miserable, exhausted and poor and sorry and sorry for yourself. Feeling lower than a snake’s belly, as they say.
Well, I’ll be darned, this is a big opportunity to put poor times behind and celebrate good times together
Seven of Pentacles
Three of Cups, Wheel of Fortune, Six of Swords
Well, I’ll be darned, this is a big opportunity to put poor times behind and celebrate good times together.
How happy will I be if I pass up this opportunity?
The girl’s big chance seems to phase out her old life.
It seems the three of them pool their resources and are headed into opportunity.
What are the chances they can have a good life and leave this place?
They seem to be on their way. This is their chance for a good life together.
What kind of luck would they have if they left town for a better life?
He has been avoiding dating those girls – what chance does he have?
He has an idea he will strike it rich with the girls and be on his way to better times.
There’s some chance for sharing a good life with the girl he left behind.
Well, it seems the girl is/girls are on their way to better times via their lucky break.
What if I left this place? – would I find an opportunity and have a good life?
Very few stories these four make together. It’s about striking it rich and having or sharing the good life, with some speculation about it but not that much speculation because it also says – Six of Swords – that poor times are over, the best is yet to come. It’s mostly about females, but the Seven of Pentacles, who is a guy, may decide to throw his lot in with them.
Advice is to be optimistic about an opportunity being around your very own corner. We keep talking about this, so there must be something to it, huh?
Meanings and Illustrations:
Three of Cups: The girls shared resources, worked together, and share the harvest profit together. They are successful. The harvest they celebrate is all around them as they drink to that.
Wheel of Fortune: This is one of the simplest cards. Hit the jackpot. Opportunity, Get rich quick. It shows what looks like a roulette wheel and has symbols of destiny cluttering its illustration.
Six of Swords: You’re on your way. You are leaving the bad scene and headed on out, maybe with some help from that fella with the little rowboat or pole boat.
Seven of Pentacles: That’s the way it seems. How good will it be? In this case, with those three very positive cards below him, how doubtful can things be – only a matter of degree, and there’s that grand opportunity thing staring you in the face, the Wheel of Fortune.
