MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD
This is the most difficult of all spreads to get enough sentences out of. I took several days. Both Nine of Pentacles and High Priestess are single women who stay in one place in solitude. Nine of Cups is having all you want or being well off. Hierophant is being respectable and business-as-usual. You can’t get away from the woman alone as the theme.
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS
Hierophant The respectable routine of the pope and his helpers is the illustration. Status quo, respectability, the normal and ordinary uneventful fit-to-print, official reality. “Behave yourself.” Morality or its appearance.
Nine of Pentacles is the owner, is self-employed and free to do whatever she wants, including the life of leisure: She is self-sufficient and satisfied with living. She is single, lives alone and loves it. This lady has no love problems, she rules. There she stands with her falcon on her hand and the snail at her feet in her vineyard.
Nine of Cups also means to be content and have all you want. In every deck ‘Your wish is granted’ is what this card stands for. The chubby guy has consumed all those cups on the mantel behind him and is feeling no pain.
High Priestess is a woman alone who is knowledgeable and/or expert. She is bookish, sedentary, passive, mysterious in her mystical wisdom, and stays in one place by choice. The illustration is from Jewish tradition: Those two pillars stand for the justice and mercy principles of Kaballah, and she holds the book in her lap labeled ‘TORA,’ which may mean the Torah, as well as Tarot and the ‘Rota’ you see in some places. I am no occultist, these are my surmises.
