High Priestess – High Priestess can be very otherworldly – has all sorts of occult paraphernalia strewn about on her card – but today is sticking to her mundane side. (Google ‘High Priestess Tarot Verbatim’ for a full report on this Rider Waite card.)

Always keep in mind that as the ‘2,’ this is the female card and the card for not taking action in the physical world; instead, it features knowing (including scholarly and expert knowing), staying, and being quiet. (You know: like a lady would.)

You always have female pronouns and words that indicate female gender when you have High Priestess in your layout. Here are today’s: that lady; her a lady; a woman; other woman; a mysterious lady; a witchy woman.

So today we have phrases about quietude: live a quiet life, be at peace, isn’t saying, unheard, doesn’t do. And we have phrases about mental things: a great mind; secret; insight, knows, expert, wise, smart, educates herself.

Ten of Pentacles – In Tarot Verbatim, this is the ‘negative family’ card because it shows a family quarrel. (For the full particulars, Google ‘Ten of Pentacles, Tarot Verbatim.’ All three family cards also are about any size human group or organization, about a house or home, and can be about real estate as well. (The other two family cards, positive ones, are Ten of Cups and Four of Wands).

My back-of-the-mind slogan for Ten of Pentacles is ‘people who have a problem or people who are a problem.’ Ten of Pentacles is mainly about conflict between or among people, especially dysfunctional people (or people who are being dysfunctional). Ten of Pentacles is one of those party-pooper cards that tend to bring out the worst in neighboring cards. Moon and Devil, for instance, do that ‘way more than Ten of Pentacles does.

No, it doesn’t have to be negative. Ten of Pentacles can simply say things like ‘neighbors,’ ‘old folks at home,’ ‘family,’ and ‘relatives’ or ‘clan.’ And it can say ‘company’ or ‘organization’ or a specific organization – say the city council meeting. It’s also a neighborhood.

However, this is the card for phrases with the words ‘problem’ and ‘trouble’ in them. Not to mention ‘dysfunctional people’ and less polite words to that effect. Which reminds me: Ten of Pentacles is what you call people you are mad at, rude things … ‘those people.’ It is also the card for the mob, gangs, and criminals … and politicians.

Two of Wands – Mr. Owns the World views his land holdings below his castle roof’s patio and contemplates how to make more profit out of the ground level. So he is the mogul. In real-world Tarot, Two of Wands is mainly a card about having money and being the respectable citizen; about plan and planning; about real estate; and mainly about the future and future tenses. It also means ‘for sure’ or certainty. And that’s about it. So Two of Wands is an anchor card.

When it doubt, try ‘will’ or ‘going to.’ Watch for words that refer to the future in odd ways, words like ‘would be,’ and ‘coming’ and ‘ahead.’ Two of Wands also is being successful (but not so much about the success of a particular thing). In romance stories, this is the guy with money.

This is a real estate card too, especially about banks, mortgages, owning a home or other real estate, and investment both generally and real estate. Two of Wands is also your pension, your bank account and your banker – not in a bad way but in a matter-of-fact businesslike way.

High Priestess and Two of Wands are stable (each in its own way) and Ten of Pentacles is anything but stable – it’s dysfunctional people and the problems associated with them.

It’s not their main focus, but both Ten of Pentacles and Two of Wands can involve real estate and/or a dwelling. Ten of Pentacles is home and can refer to a house (either the ghetto or the estates for Ten of Pentacles; and for Two of Wands, the subject of real estate, its ownership, its brokers, mortgage banking, investing, bankers and financiers). Note that Two of Wands is a stranger to the home life theme. That man’s interest is his assets.

Both Two of Wands and Chariot are forward-looking strategy, taking charge, success and power. Two of Wands is financial security and planning for future profits, which embraces banking and pensions – and real estate ownership. Chariot is project management, success, the ability to get the job done using all factors, including the disadvantages, to its advantage: ‘tacking against the wind’ in nautical parlance.

High Priestess is spiritual expertise, knowing, the lady, staying in place (or staying home), waiting, being an expert or knowledgeable or educated. It stands for the receptive or passive pole or position.

Hierophant is orthodox or traditional or established, mainstream, conservative, ordinary, decent, religion, the usual or accepted (whatever), the physical or mundane or ‘real’ world, safe, establish, average, official (whatever), title or certificate, passing or accepted, good (as in good repair, good name) … is the way things should be and the official story presented to the public by people and their institutions.

Each Tarot sentence is a literal-interpretation reading of the scenes pictured on the four cards you see. Only what each of the cards says – phrase by phrase – no fillers – no psychic ability used. The readings are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. Tarot, all by itself, talks to you. This is a demonstration of that .

Tarot will address any group flexibly, as it does here of ‘all the visitors.’ (It can address ‘all the people at work who have a say in my raise,’ for instance, without you knowing who or where those people are.)

Horoscopes are group readings too.

Astrology has to be based on someone else’s birth data, though, so it does not solidly apply to you just because of where the sun was when you were born. (Astrologers know this.)

Emily wants to know whether these sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than for people who have come only a few times. Would you help with a comment, if that is who you are? Please?

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no, never or not.’ That negative modifier can apply to any one of the cards.

Without a question also the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. Notice how, as much as possible, we drop pronouns, which makes for some awkward phrasing.

The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information! In a ‘real’ reading, the parties are identified (including the gender of the questioner!), and so is the time frame if there is one. In this group reading, we cannot do that, so we have variety.

Advice is about the Wife, the Other Woman, a divorce and financial security. It tantalizingly reads any way. I put it here because it is probably talking to someone! So I put down another spread hoping for something cheerful. Fat chance! The next spread is one of the most dismal I ever laid down! =========================================================================== MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD Like I wrote in Advice, there’s financial security, Two of Wands; the Other Woman, High Priestess; the Wife, Queen of Wands; and Three of Swords, divorce. MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS Two of Wands is financial security, and ‘asset’ in a banking sense – hence using the house as an asset when Queen of Wands owns a house. It also means a plan. The illustration shows a banker type guy planning his real estate kingdom below, standing on this finished roof with the whole world in his hands. High Priestess means plenty of other things besides the other woman, but in this spread that’s it, other than she is alone and ‘she stays.’ She is pictured in Rider Waite as sitting alone, standing for the passive female principle. Why she represents the other woman, I don’t know. I got the meanings by asking questions I knew the answer to and that is what came out. Perhaps it’s the ideas combining of being alone and sitting, suggesting waiting? Queen of Wands is being the Wife and the woman who owns a house today. In her illustration, she sits alert on a nice solid throne with a flower in one hand and a big stick in the other. Three of Swords today is limited to divorce or to being against, averse, to. It means hurt and heartache too. The stylized heart with swords going through it and storm clouds behind says it all.

Don’t doubt the outlook is great if you just wait. Wonder whether she will refuse the plan? Not doing anything, letting them wonder what will be. She is secure enough to be quiet and not speculate. If there is a plan, she is not doing anything about it. You will not be able to question the expert. You can’t ask her what she will do. When you know, you don’t wonder about the future. She knows the future and keeps it secret. Why is she refusing to say? It seems she will refuse. Does she know this isn’t going to be? A lady will not ask or will not speculate. Wonder why the lady isn’t going to. Will not be speculating about spiritual things.

Well, again we have messages that are cryptic (puzzling) and not about any particular subject. We start with refusal, then wondering, then plan/future/security, then the woman who knows/waits/does not do anything – which also means expertise. Hope this means something to someone!

Meanings and Illustrations:

Four of Cups: Pictured is someone who doesn’t want any of that. Arms crossed, legs crossed, head averted as the disembodied hand offers (him) one time after another. It often means refuse. Imagine that. It also means various negative words like ‘don’t’ and ‘not’ that go along with shutting something out or turning something away.

Seven of Pentacles: In the Rider Waite Tarot pantheon, the story illustrated is this fellow wondering whether his cucumbers are going to produce because cucumber is one of those plants that need both genders to bear. So it means, wonder, speculate, or question – including the idea to put the interpretation into question form. Two of Wands: Is he a banker? He stands on top of the skyscraper with the world in his hands, contemplating plans for the future of all those buildings he owns. Future, financial security, instructions to put the reading into future tense. High Priestess: She knows and does not act. This meaning grows out of occult background of the first four cards: The Magician means to act and not know. Anyway, we have ‘deep knowledge,’ expertise, expert, a woman who stays or sits there, as well as a passive stance or approach. It also relates to the mental or spiritual plane. Quite often it just means ‘her.’

Queen of Pentacles Eight of Wands, Ace of Cups, Wheel of Fortune

Love Perspective: She takes wonderful care of him, he loves her more and more. He tells her he loves her and rewards her for caring for him. Texts his love who makes such good things happen for him. She provides many opportunities to be loving. Talented woman has many chances for true love. She gives him many chances, she loves him. Her love is rewarded many times over, she is giving.

Business Perspective: She invests more and more money: This is an easy profit. Everything was eased when her money made it happen. Her talent makes it easy to get a quick payoff. She has a lot of money, more and more, and no harm is done. Opportunities flow to her because of her abilities. Many people love her for her wonderful contribution. Things come easy to her, she is lucky and has much to offer. She loves them all and provides them opportunities. She is lucky, money comes to her easily. Well, here is the love. A woman who cares for others, cares for her man, is rewarded with lots of love. A talented woman is rewarded with lots of opportunities and money. What more could you want? How simple and lovely can it get? Her man is as loved by her. The first card means ‘many,’ ‘more and more’ as well as messages, talking and ‘quickly.’ The second is the true love card which also means such things as ‘easily.’ The third is a grand opportunity, getting lucky as in hitting the jackpot. And the last is the able talented generous woman who has money and/or manages her man’s money, and takes care of him, cares for him.

Meanings and Illustrations:

Eight of Wands: This first card means ‘many,’ ‘more and more’ as well as messages, talking and ‘quickly.’ It also means ‘tells’ as well as written messages. It suggests things coming to a person.

Its illustration shows one after another pole flying in the air, looking like lines on a page. Ace of Cups: In the Rider Waite Tarot deck, this is the true love card which also means a flow, no harm or harmless, easy or easily, and Divinity. The ‘easy money’ meanings arise from its combining with the Wheel of Fortune. The illustration suggests that a person who channels the Holy Spirit or presence of God (symbolized by the dove and the wafer that is the Sacrament in the Catholic churches) has bodily health and serendipity, and is a blessing to his/her environment – hence ‘God is love.’ All good and no harm comes to such a person and from such a person. Wheel of Fortune: Happening, coincidence, luck, opportunity, the word ‘wonderful,’ reward, profit, chances, as well as destiny/karma. Her as both the woman who has money and the woman who is generous (Queen of Pentacles) combining with the Wheel of Fortune suggests both money/opportunities coming to her, and her providing money/opportunities to others. The illustration shows the wheel of destiny, the four symbols that represent the creative process in occult lore on it and various magic critters around it. It’s all about chance, happenings and hitting it right. Queen of Pentacles: She is the woman who has talent and money and who contributes and invests money for her man and/or for others, and who is generous. She is a powerful woman. She is not handing that money over to any fool, she is judicious. Her illustration shows her with money (the symbolic pentacle/coin) in her hands, looking at it appraisingly. Around her is verdant growth. She sits upright and is very well dressed.
