Tarot Readings for You for October 24 & 25, 2015 Weekend©

GUIDANCE         Your honest self-interest is consistent with the good of all. Most people anyway … the normal ones? … have a little buzzer in their gut that tells them where the border of greed lies. Most of us can rely on the buzzer, and promote our own happiness, and the happiness of our circle of people, while also floating the boat of general welfare of the community.

Knight of Pentacles – Ten of Cups – Hierophant

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. …….…… …..           In Knight of Pentacles, you have ambition, focus, and self-interest – the fellow with one thing on his mind who concentrates on that pentacle.

In Ten of Cups, you have the good of all, everybody being happy, community, family, and ‘the good people.’ The illustration makes that obvious.

In Hierophant, you have what’s right, proper, acceptable, decent and of good reputation.

Contrast here is the distinction between the self-interest of Knight of Pentacles versus everybody in the community doing well and being happy, in Ten of Cups.

Theme (cards that mean the same thing) here is good reputation, what is acceptable, and good people. Ten of Cups is the good people of the community; Hierophant is what is acceptable, moral, normal and approved.

So our focus balances and reconciles self-interest with the interest of others.

Knight of Pentacles and Hierophant express a focus on physical, ordinary, real-world, established means to an end. These two Rider Waite Tarot cards also describe a plain man who is ambitious in the real physical ordinary world.

.

.

.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE.

Knight of Pentacles           Knight of Pentacles is the yeoman, the common man who is strong of body and focused … opinionated … of mind. Got one thing on his mind, got muscles. Is determined and has energy. The main meaning of Knight of Pentacles is this focus on the physical aspect, which includes ambition and even obsession. Knight of Pentacles also reflects priority, the most important (whatever).

You find him coming up for a stubborn man; a Type A driven-by-ambition man; a greedy bastard; a thuggy punk; a strong believer in something. This card also translates ‘focus’ and ‘concentrate on’ or ‘concentrate’ in any of its forms. Notice how easily ‘guy with one thing on his mind’ comes up with Knight of Pentacles, because that is what he is.

Note that he, and the horse he rode in on, are dark, short, sturdy-looking beings. Knight of Pentacles represents that phenotype often enough to remember this. Think Danny DeVito. Knight of Pentacles tends to be a commoner-type man – no pretensions, no particular polish, and not necessarily groomed. You know.

Ten of Cups           Ten of Cups says ‘happily ever after’ and is one of two positive marriage cards. It is ‘married with children’ too. Ten of Cups you can privately label ‘The Moral Majority.’ That’s impolite, I know. But on point.

All the marriage cards expand to any size and any type of group. The positive ones expand to positive or neutral group [and that’s in the definition of whoever’s doing the Tarot spread]. Ten of Cups and Four of Wands are the positive ones. So they mean couple, family, extended family (clan), community, city, state, nation, international; and they mean organization, company, corporation, party – any bunch of people who have something in common that isn’t nefarious (menacing).

Ten of Cups means happy and happiness. It can even appear as what makes a given person happy. A nearby card may identify what ‘what makes (me) happy.’

Ten of Cups also means ‘we’ and ‘us,’ ‘they’ and ‘them’ and words like together, unity, everybody, ‘all the (fill in the blank),’ and ‘people’ or ‘people who,’ and a nearby card gives you what the group Tarot is talking about is.

Note that Ten of Cups – along with Ace of Pentacles – show the good people having money, being prosperous. People used to say ‘of good family’ and ‘marry well’ meaning being well off goes along with being good. (Al Capone and John Gotti were firm believers in this principle.)

Hierophant           Hierophant Here’s the pope doing a ceremony with some clerics. That’s their routine, what they are supposed to do. That’s official. That’s normal. There’s a brand associated with what they are doing. There’s a name; a label; an official designation; a recognized organization, the church. That’s how Hierophant comes to mean official, name, and ‘paper thing’ – title, certificate, etc. (For example, Hierophant means ‘the paper thing’ regarding marriage, and Hierophant and Ten of Cups translate ‘holy matrimony.’) We have the appearance of righteousness, morality, decency, what you’re supposed to (believe), the surface aspect. So Hierophant refers to image as well as reputation. (Note ‘supposed to’ in what you just read.)

Hierophant translates ‘church’ and ‘religion.’

Hierophant means supposed to, should, ought, the right thing, conform, the public face, the label, legitimate, belongs, customary, consensus, conventional, prescribed and accepted, normal limits, middle ground (as in ‘middle class’), and anything that fits that mold. Hierophant is ‘fitting in.’ You could say Hierophant is the mold. Hierophant often translates ‘usual.’ Hierophant also frequently means ordinary and mundane and ‘in the real world,’ meaning physical reality.

Hierophant belongs to the ‘entitled’ theme in Tarot, too. It means ‘benefit without harm,’ and ‘benefits.’

Now, Hierophant can bring up words like decent, harmless, honest, right and can even say ‘means well,’ as in ‘no bad intention.’ BUT the deeper meaning of Hierophant – which you can miss – is the distinction between the surface and the reality. The difference between proper and decent. The distinction between what the professionals believe and the version that’s fit to print, that’s suitable to the average Joe. The pope and the priests don’t have the same version of religion as they hand down to the public. (Just read any theological treatise designed for the professionals.) The deeper meaning of Hierophant refers to that invisible treaty that human individuals have with one another – and that companies, parties, corporations and clans have with the public – that Our Nose is Clean, that We Are Good. It’s just ‘not good form,’ not polite, to openly consider someone scum, no matter how well he or she qualifies for the designation, no matter how scandalous a circumstance is.

Humans have this understanding (in their mammal genes) to act as if others were okay, acceptable, and worthy of respect. (These days that has morphed into political correctness.) Note that Hierophant is about the official image, the official story, the official doings – the rituals and the reputation and what is supposed to be … the assumption that all is well and there’s no cesspool beneath our feet or in our hearts and souls.

So Hierophant also represents the assumption that all is well … that ‘It can’t happen here’ – what we call normalcy bias. You could say Hierophant is pedantic. You could say Hierophant is the deliberately closed mind, the ‘Don’t confuse me with the facts’ intention and attitude. Animals have no such problem; they accept reality readily without any assumptions other than their racial or species instincts. They don’t have to assume they are Teacher’s Pet and nothing bad can happen to them. But of course we humans are smarter and better than they, right?

What’s good for General Motors is good for America,” once upon a time was a slogan that company proudly bandied about. Really. Our self-interest, the company is saying, is good for you people. In today’s article, we compare and contrast self-interest and the good of all; we make a distinction between what is moral and acceptable, and what is actually decent. We look at that invisible understanding people have about other people – and companies or organizations have with the public – that ‘We are the good guys; we are okay.’ We agree to honor one another’s pretensions; and that’s called ‘face.’

Our Daily Spread for Jan. 10, 2011

Well, this marriage theme has me puzzled. So I decide to do TWO four-card spreads, to see how similar they are – whether they are both on the theme. I was hoping the first would satisfy the marriage subject, and the second would be directed toward people who aren’t in the throes of marital union. Look at these spreads card by card:  The first card in each (Ace of Swords/Five of Swords) means aggression or asserting oneself vigorously. The second in each (Ten of Cups/4 of Wands) is astounding:  Those are the two positive ‘marriage’ cards in the entire 78-card Tarot deck! The third card in each are a kind of father-son duo (Knight of Pentacles/King of Pentacles). Both are assertive men who are gonna get their way no matter what: the first by force and the second by stealth. The fourth Tarot card in each is SUN/JUDGMENT. Both  refer to a new lease on life, a new phase, a getting-out-from-under. I could not do this kind of card-by-card parallel deliberately for the life of me!

Tarot Reading 1-10-11 pt1

One main thought: Get free, I must marry

Sun

Ace of Swords, Ten of Cups, Knight of Pentacles

One thing on his mind:  to be happy, he must marry (her).
One thing he must do:  get free and have a happy home life/marriage.
Now that he is out of this home and its restrictions, he has one thing on his mind:  He’s got to be happy at home.
I’ve got to be happy, I’ve got to be free:  This is the one important thing.
He feels he must make everybody happy to be happy himself.
Marriage is the one thing on the man’s mind:  He has to be happy.
He is out from under the drive to be the macho strongman, he is part of a happy marriage.

Is this about being happy, or what?  The dude is out from under a former life and is settling into a new life of bliss, he has to.

Tarot Reading 1-10-11 pt 2

He pulls off a new life: married head of household

Judgement

Five of  Swords, Four of Wands, King of Pentacles

He pulls off being married, a new phase of being a powerful studly man.
His chip-on-the-shoulder snarly personality changes when being married gives him a feeling of being important and powerful.
There’s being the smart alec who intimidates, and there’s being the smooth dude who manipulates:  This marriage makes the change in him.
He feels being married means he has arrived, he is the head of household – a big change from having to show people who’s boss.
He asks her to marry him and goes from being taken advantage of to being the man who has money.
Going from being taken advantage of (or abused) to marrying a man who is a leader and makes things happen is a big change.

This emphasizes how much better he feels about himself as a married man.  Marriage is, again, a new life.
