LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES
Temperance A barefoot angel pours liquid back and forth between two cups, standing in a shallow pool with wings outstretched. We have the path to the rising sun and the blue mountains that recall to us Ace of Pentacles. This is a hastily added Middle Ages card that is about diluting wine. The symbols on his chest indicate this is a healing angel.
But this card’s meaning in Tarot Verbatim is intimate partnership or equal partnership, deal or transaction, direct one-on-one hand-to-hand contact. Today the accent is on partnership because of the sharing of profits and pooling of resources expressed in Three of Cups.
Knight of Wands is running out of town in a hurry, although he can mean hot pursuit as well. The salamanders and red hair indicate an impulsive macho energetic dude with a temper. He is in a hurry: That is the main emphasis of Knight of Wands. That is the meaning we concentrate on in today’s messages.
Five of Swords is largely someone you would like to exclude from your life and not be like. This is the smart alec, the bully, the fellow who takes foul advantage of friends and is cruel – you know, ‘the guy who takes his half of the road down the middle.’
The story of the scene is that he had swordplay with friends, and then claimed their swords (and their assets, per knighthood’s rules) as if it were a real fight, when he won. I met lots of this type as a court reporter in the drug and real estate boom in south Florida. They tend to have that same expression on their faces as we see on the Tarot card.
Most of the bad cards have their good side, and this one can simply mean to beat something (say an ailment) or to take advantage of an offer instead of a person.
Three of Cups The girls pooled their money and shared their labor and are now sharing the profit of the farm. Camaraderie, celebration, profit, trust, girls together, party girls, sisterhood. Celebration and prosperity too. They can be debutantes.
