Three of Pentacles

Interaction with other people is Three of Pentacles: social and business and love relationships – any kind of relationship, meeting, dealing, negotiation, compromise, getting something done together, teamwork. Three of Pentacles is a payoff, is making a profit. Any mutual thing is Three of Pentacles.

In the illustration that makes all these basic meanings, we see a builder-contractor demonstrating to his clients that he followed the blueprint for their building and is now entitled to be paid per their contract. They have the blueprint so they can see his claim is valid. It’s a deal, fair and square – and ‘fair and square’ solidly belongs to Three of Pentacles. Naturally, Three of Pentacles is a real estate card, and a litigation card. Selling your house, negotiating a settlement in court, or a court hearing, often a motions hearing.

Nine of Wands

I’m afraid that might happen again, and I’m on guard against it. Got a bad feeling about this, dread, nervous about it, worry about it. Something’s out there that got a piece of me (See the bandaged head?). Hurt feelings put me on the defensive. Leery about this: Those are people I just don’t want to deal with, or don’t want around me. Under pressure and uneasy. Being, or feeling, accused.

Our border guard is still at his post after being wounded. He is hanging in there – a frequent phrase for Nine of Wands. ‘Don’t budge’ belongs to him, and so does ‘hold out.’ Oh – ‘standoff’ too.

Knight of Swords

It’s fast, it’s movement, and it’s a change of direction. Those are the knowns of Knight of Swords. He is speeding. Pursuing is pictured: He is leaning forward, and has his blade drawn. ‘Hot pursuit’ is one of his terms. But wait – Knight of Swords is also fleeing, quitting, averting, getting out of Dodge, running for the hills. (In questions in which the answer was the ‘known,’ he came up for that meaning. Today’s generous donor also shares our lively correspondence. The Tarot reading here is from the perspective of her love interest, and this presentation is a great example of how one person’s perspective in a relationship can be so self-centered that the other person isn’t in the same relationship at all: two different worlds.

Aren’t I glad that Knight of Swords can say ‘not anymore,’ and that Judgment is a new phase or even a whole new life, new perspective; and that Judgment is one of the say/speak/tell/announce cards? – because these give us some meaningful sentences here. We look to the third card of our spread for direction. Nine of Wands is nervous about all this change, and is defensive – including defensive about what he said – he takes it back.
