GUIDANCE She is putting pressure on herself to get the people around her to behave acceptably to her, and not do what they are wont to do. And the people around her are putting pressure on themselves to keep her from doing that, which is not acceptable to them. People are uneasy when you make them do their part.

Nine of Wands – Today is a study in Nine of Wands’ spectrum. Its basic meaning of waiting for the other shoe to drop’ applies no matter whether it’s just a (even small) feeling, or whether it’s a life-threatening situation – any kind of life-threatening situation, not just combat or confrontation. Watch for Nine of Wands when someone has been diagnosed with a scary (to him/her) ailment, or been warned of a possible hazard.
.
Nine of Wands applies both as to the apprehension of the wounded soldier who isn’t ready for another battle but also to the bravery of standing up to the attackers. so in the case of the diagnosis, Nine of Wands would represent both the dread of the disease and the determination to fight it.
.
So Nine of Wands is both the ordeal and the expectation of the worst happening.
Strength – A lady dressed for choir practice bends over a lion. Her hands cover his snout. Lion is just standing there. This illustration is Taming the Beast – whether the beast within (traits or habits) or the beast without (a person or situation that is a threat). Strength is about preventing – one of its favorite words. And about overcoming – another favorite word.
.
Here are six other focal points of the Strength movement:
.
*Strength exerts influence, usually diplomatically (she is the lion whisperer, after all). Words for that today are: making me or making us or making you; getting us (or them or you) to.
.
*Strength can handle it – sees it coming before it lands, and cuts off its path, whatever it is. Strength is that look of a person who is comfortable in a fight who repels muggers. Strength can do – got a grip on it, ironing it out.
.
*In a little different context, usually, Strength is that soothing touch (she touches him, she soothes).
.
*And yeah, the Strength lady can be pushy, dominant or assertive.
.
*Strength – and here the card may not refer to a person per se – is the solution, is fixing the situation, preventing the worst from happening.
.
*And lastly – not that often – Strength is toning it down, putting a damper on it, being quieter or more subtle.
.
There’s a spiritual and/or esoteric set of meanings to Strength that we are not using today because its neighbor cards are framing a different story than that.

Three of Pentacles – Three of Pentacles is an old friend of yours if you are doing Tarot Email Training. It has these standard meanings, and sticks to them. First of all, Three of Pentacles’ standby word is ‘relationship.’ Next is ‘meeting.’ Then comes ‘deal’ or ‘dealing with.’ Today that includes people pitching in, and a support group.
.
When you combine the meeting with dealing with, you get negotiating and putting heads together, and those are also fallback meanings for Three of Pentacles.
.
And today, strangely enough, the way the sentences are constructed, Three of Pentacles four times just gets to be: people, peers, them, we. This card is about what people are doing together, and if other cards also mean that, it just leaves the ‘people’ part to Three of Pentacles.
.
The way these meanings belong to Three of Pentacles is the story in the picture: The fellow standing on the bench is the builder and/or architect who used that blueprint the monk and nun hold to build the part of the building you are looking at. This meeting is the inspection: When the clients there agree he has done his part, he gets paid because they have a deal, a contract.

These cards have appeared before, here – even in the exact sequence – in four-card spreads of our past. So if you want to dive into that deeply, you can see what the addition of other cards do to what these three say by themselves. Just Google these three cards.
.
Nine of Wands describes
a fear of something that hasn’t happened … yet – usually a well-grounded fear, since the
nervous border guard already has a
head wound. (Which, by the way, can put a
headache in your story, as can Nine of Swords. And
Nine of Wands can be a
disabled veteran.) The border guard also is
bravely
standing up against whatever might happen, so he is about
standing ground, as well as about
the fear of what may happen.
.
Strength is the
ability to handle a pending or possible attack or problem, and is
preventing it by
strength of will.
Strength also is
putting somebody (or something) in their place,
setting things or people straight. [In your reading,
Nine of Wands may be, therefore,
in fear of
being influenced by
someone or something that ‘makes him’ do or be (whatever).]
.
Three of Pentacles as usual is dealing with (whatever), is
people acting together or
agreeing or
meeting together. And
Three of Pentacles is a
relationship. (So these three cards describe
a fellow who feels the pressure – or even is
intimidated by the fear of –
a relationship with a
pushy dame or a ‘
woman of character.’ And this does not have to be in a romantic
relationship; the
dame with the
dreaded influence could be a boss, a relative … anyone.)
.
Nine of Wands and
Three of Pentacles say ‘
scared of people,’ but ‘people’ isn’t a general meaning of
Three of Pentacles as a rule.
Nine of Wands and
Three of Pentacles are clearly ‘
peer
pressure,’ but ‘peers’ is not a general meaning of
Three of Pentacles as a rule. These sentences are an example of the effect neighboring cards have.
.
Strength is to
fix something before it happens.
Nine of Wands is
in fear of something happening again.
Three of Pentacles is
people doing something together. “
We
fix
what might happen before it does happen.” But
Three of Pentacles, once again, is reduced to ‘we’ there – which isn’t its definition by any means.
.
Sometimes the overlap in meanings is expressed as words that apply to both cards’ meanings – apply doubly. Example:
‘making you feel you have to’ for
Nine of Wands applies doubly with Strength’s ‘
making you.’ (“
These other people are pitching in,
making you feel you have to, too.“)

When the Rockettes were a new and wonderful thing on the scene, French dance companies tried to duplicate that style of performance. No matter how many girls they recruited, no matter how expert those dancers were, alas, there was no Rockettes type show in all the land of France. Doing the very same move at the very same instant as the gal next to you is so un-French it never happened. Those glamorous dames do not see themselves professionally as another face … er, leg … in the crowd. Some of us just aren’t going to be mechanical, and a lot of us are in France who strongly feel that way.

Guidance When something opens up that is so promising that you taste fear of it failing right along with hope of it succeeding … well … you can stay on the curb as a bystander until the grand opportunity expires. Then from the safety of hindsight you can say ‘If only …’ On the other hand, things really can be too good to be true. Assessing the difference between succeeding and failing calls for assessing other people. Check it out! Assessing ‘Is my trust well-founded?’ is like an internal audit when it comes to major life decisions like going into partnership (marriage or business): It’s painstaking, with the river of hope snaking right through the ocean of apprehension.

Four of Cups
Nine of Wands – Wheel of Fortune – Three of Pentacles

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
.
Nine of Wands and Four of Cups Here we have a split screen. It’s our job to sort out two cards that say on one hand
‘This gives me the heebie-jeebies, and I want no part of it’ and on the other hand two cards that say
Wheel of Fortune and Three of Pentacles ‘This is the best relationship or deal I could be in; it’s working out.’
Nine of Wands’ illustration shows someone sweating out another encounter, wounded from an earlier one. He is on guard.
Four of Cups’ illustration clearly wants no part of another offer. His arms are crossed, his head is averted … heck, even his legs are crossed as yet another cup is offered.
Wheel of Fortune’s illustration is about the long shot that paid off royally: What looks like a roulette wheel is surrounded by divine and by infernal entities associated with destiny. Its message is that spiritual factors influence mundane (everyday) doings and affairs. Hitting the jackpot is being blessed by randomness, it says, but there are pitfalls too.
Three of Pentacles’ (itself a violator of the Laws of Random Distribution: Look how often it visits!) illustration is less obvious, but it too is about a payoff. That’s a general contractor or architect who is responsible for the construction of the building shown: He bears its blueprint to demonstrate to his clients (nun and priest of the cathedral he built) that he has earned his final draft payment (the largest part of his fee). Three of Pentacles is about working out a relationship, as well as a deal, fair and square, about doing your part, and other parties doing their parts, fair and square, and according to protocol.
Nine of Wands and Three of Pentacles Nine of Wands and Three of Pentacles is being on guard, being afraid to participate in the exchange or the relationship.
Three of Pentacles and Four of Cups Three of Pentacles and Four of Cups is refusing to get involved in the relationship or deal: No way! I don’t believe!
Wheel of Fortune and Three of Pentacles Wheel of Fortune and Three of Pentacles is the relationship or deal paying off wonderfully. Each of these cards separately can involve a payoff.
Nine of Wands and Wheel of Fortune Nine of Wands and Wheel of Fortune is that paralyzing fear that can keep us from scoring the best thing ever, or, conversely, save us in a wonderful way from something we should never have had anything to do with. Both these cards are about unseen forces that interfere in our everyday events, lucky ones and ones that make our hair stand on end when we intuit they are around.
Nine of Wands and Four of Cups Nine of Wands and Four of Cups both don’t want to associate with someone or something. For both of them, the desire not to be involved is because of experience of the past.
So there you are: The moment of decision, and we picture the factors rather than the outcome, although ‘something wonderful happens’ and ‘a stroke of luck’ and the bonanza are Wheel of Fortune. We don’t have a card about the disaster or bad thing happening. So overall this is about a wonderful opportunity and advice to check it out.

Nine of Wands A wounded soldier is still on duty, afraid for the next hostile encounter. He is leery, and that’s based on past experience. You just know something’s up sometimes. You just know you don’t want to deal with these people. You just know you’re going to get hurt. ‘It’s out there somewhere and it’s going to be coming my way.’

Wheel of Fortune Unseen forces interfere in our ordinary day – lucky ones and dastardly ones. This illustration depicts randomness, the luck of the draw, by the roulette wheel and/or compass in the center, which has the four-letter Hebrew Name of God, literally ‘Lord,’ in the center, interspersed with the letters T, A, R and O . Outside the circle are various pictures of evil entities and (I think) good ones.

Three of Pentacles The general contractor or architect who oversaw the construction of the building meets his clients, blueprints in hand, to demonstrate he followed them, and is entitled to his final large payment. It’s a fair exchange, he lived up to his agreement and so will the clients, a monk and a nun. Emphasis is on each party to a transaction or relationship doing his/her part fair and square.

Four of Cups isn’t doing business with them, no way, no how: ‘No.’ Like a baby who won’t eat his peas. Turn your head away, cross your arms, even sit down and cross your legs. Something isn’t going through here.

Tarot Verbatim
Guidance In this uneasy situation, it seems to be up to a woman to finesse a settlement that all sides agree to. Everyone in the meeting is worried and wonders whether she has a solution. (I hear the Beatles singing ‘We can work it out.’) Are we really going to live up to our end of the agreement? You are called upon to be a diplomat. And in a personal relationship, she just takes the lead because he is so uneasy and doesn’t know why.
Are YOU here for the first time? Come in!
People love this place! Our site is divided into four sections: Guidance, Tarot Readings, Learn Tarot by Observation, and Learn Tarot by Pictures

Tarot Reading: Pressured to Deal with This (Nine of Wands and Three of Pentacles)
Concerned about what kind of a deal we are doing here: Do we have a grip on things?
The three of them are up to something again, and you are not about to let them get away with whatever it is.
It’s embarrassing the way she can get us together and pressure us to agree.
Once we figure out how to make a profit, we have things under control.
She is under pressure to find a way that is fair to each of us, and we have no idea what that might be.
What kind of a scary deal has she taken it upon herself to get us into?
Nervous and uncertain about meeting these people and handling that situation.
How come she is doing the best deals? He feels very uneasy.
How can I handle my nerves at these meetings?
She is under pressure to chair the meetings somehow.
She is the one who knows this kind of transaction; it is strange territory to him.
Why won’t she let us come to our own agreement instead of asserting herself like that?
She is the one who handles that so well, so why are we involved?
How come we all have to be involved in working this out when she is the one who knows what to do?
Now, Part Two,
Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim™ thing works? If so,
*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing section below. This tells about the combined four pictures in the Tarot Readings – the pictures above here. It explains how these four cards get together in your mind to make the messages.
*Go to Learn Tarot by Pictures. It is what each of the four cards, by itself, has to say. It shows you how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in today’s Spread. All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim™.
You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim™ works.
This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contradictions – and also the pronouns are more flexible. If it feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ and you’re a ‘she,’ feel free to adopt it anyway.

.
Nine of Wands is uneasy about what may happen next;
Page of Cups is uncertain and feels awkward. Both Nine of Wands and Page of Cups are feeling inadequate to their situations.
Nine of Wands is under pressure, apprehensive of another attack.
Strength is preventing an attack by a would-be aggressor.
Strength is the solution to a problem or obstacle;
Three of Pentacles is settling up an issue by coming to agreement. Both are about fixing a difficulty. Three of Pentacles is about coming to agreement, and Strength is someone who exerts influence toward resolution of a difficulty. So we see a picture of a woman taking assertive charge at a meeting.
Nine of Wands is apprehensive (nervous, uneasy, feeling pressured, things are scary around here);
Page of Cups is uncertain and feeling out of his element and awkward. These two are guy cards.
Strength is using influence to make the situation the way it should be. It is a girl card. This is a picture of a woman firmly and diplomatically taking charge where the others are anxious and uncertain.
Three of Pentacles makes that a business meeting. And since Three of Pentacles is also relationship, we have the woman in a romance taking the lead where the fellow is nervous or insecure.
It seems to be up to a woman to finesse an agreement acceptable to the parties. That is our main message for today.

Nine of Wands You have a feeling “it’s out there and it’s coming to get me” – acold dread something may happen like that again. Here’s a soldier, wounded from a previous assault, still standing his ground, defending his position, expecting the onslaught. He is afraid next time he won’t fend them off. He is under pressure to do something that makes him very uneasy.

Strength can handle this. She knows just how to finesse the situation, to make it purr when it has potential to roar. She stands for a similar concept that we explained for World just past. Being spiritually adept helps a person in dicey situations. She is holding the mouth that wants to roar, petting the lion who came to attack her. He has fallen under her charm, her strength of character.

Three of Pentacles shows a real estate closing of sorts: The architect who built the place is finally about to collect his last big draw, and this is the final inspection by the owners. Three people are often involved in this meeting, especially if it is business. This is one of the reliable cards, anchor cards, because it so frequently says ‘relationship’ or ‘deal.’ Three of Pentacles is working out an agreement that is fair to all concerned in a face-to-face meeting. It is each party actually performing that fair share too. It also talks about a contract, negotiation, and legal settlement or legal proceeding.

Page of Cups Feeling like a misfit, are you? – out of place, awkward, dressed inappropriately for this occasion? Page of Cups is feeling uncomfortable in a strange place or uncertain situation. “I don’t get it – huh?” Duh. Somebody is a weirdo. This idea is depicted by a fellow dressed in women’s clothes who carries a fish around in a big cup.
