This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contractions – and also the pronouns are more flexible. If it feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ and you’re a ‘she,’ feel free to adopt it.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

Okay, the good thing about this sad spread is: There is no action. It is all feeling and opinion.

Anything that starts with the Devil is likely to have some negativity, ya think? Slide that Magician in next to His Badness, and you get acting out evil … and then there’s Page of Pentacles – a person’s intentions and thoughts. And then Four of Wands directs the thinking and action to a group – family (or spouse), Company or Corporation, or government entity including nation.

Looking at it from another angle, you have a person (Page of Pentacles) who identifies himself as being a member (Four of Wands) of some group, and then apply that to acting out of (Magician) hate (Devil). This is the ‘Us vs. Them’ human habit. It also, of course, refers to hating family (Devil as hate, Four of Wands as family).

Lighthearted messages are hard to come by when these four get together. There are some even darker things you could make of this spread which I have ignored, such as black magic (Devil and Magician), such as identifying with evil (Page of Pentacles and Devil), such as incest (Devil as lust or sex and Four of Wands as family) and so on.

Be on the lookout for a somewhat demented male individual who acts out.

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

Devil Besides the obvious, Devil is about limitation and attachment, about the lowest form of (anything). It is a very ambiguous (unclear) card that sometimes just means attachment. Not all its meanings are distasteful. Here are the phrases it lends to our sentences today, in a column so you can scan them easily:

Its illustration shows a nude couple wearing the Devil’s horns and loose – hence voluntary – chains around their necks which ‘attach’ them to the Devil. Occult symbols associated with the Christian devil and black magic are on this card too.

Magician is as singleminded in its meanings as Devil is scattered. As the male principle card (The male principle is action, being active.) it means ‘he.’ As the action card, we can conjugate the verbs ‘do,’ ‘make’ and ‘create’ (meaning bring down, bring about), and have most of his meanings. (The female principle card is High Priestess. That is about receptivity and knowing, being passive, being the receiver, being behind the scenes, holding secret abilities.)

Page of Pentacles can represent a male (most often) or female. It can represent a thought or thinking, an opinion or a study of. It can represent identity or being identified as, or identifying oneself as. Those are its main focus. The illustration in Rider Waite is a young person who intently examines the held-aloft pentacle.

Four of Wands depicts a wedding, in Rider Waite Tarot, of two leading families – say a noble or royal wedding. This is a public display, which brings community life into its meaning. It stands for group, for powerful groups of families (companies, corporations). It obviously means marriage, spouse, family. It’s also anything from neighborhood to nation that one can be part of. Four of Wands is the ‘Us’ of ‘Us and Them.’

It is about what you think is wrong or hate about the doings of companies, countries, families – any group. Even hating family. The downside of group consciousness, the dark side of membership. About everybody being mistaken. About what everybody thinks is bad. . . Is this the first time you come here? Well … what to do: The Question for weekdays is: “Tell the visitors here something useful and meaningful to them.” The Question for weekends is usually stated right on top on those days. (Some days are ‘keep an eye open for’ and some days are ‘green light, go fast.’) *Go to Advice to apply what those sentences say for you. (Advice is everyone’s favorite part.) Did you come here for your predictions? – You are done now – See you tomorrow. Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

The one that is precise is the Magician, which simply means to act and a male who acts, and any form of the verb ‘do.’ . The reason for all the negative political language is, of course, the Devil card in combination with the Magician which means to do, to act – hence an evil or wrong or mistaken action; and then the other two cards together meaning mass or group (Four of Wands) consciousness (Page of Pentacles); or a person’s being (Page of Pentacles) a member of a group or family (Four of Wands). Four Card Spreads, Our Daily Spread, Tarot Verbatim

He isn’t married but feels he should be

Four of Wands, Justice, Page of Pentacles

He cannot picture himself legally married.
He is not legally married.
He is the one who is putting a stop to his marriage, legally.
He contemplates ending his marriage legally.
He doesn’t think this marriage is right for him.
He sees himself legally married and that’s all.
He thinks of himself as a married man and that’s it.
He can’t think any farther than getting himself legally married.
He should marry, he knows he hasn’t done it.

Well, here we are. Marriage again. Legal marriage is Four of Wands with the Justice card. There it is, the first two! Justice means ‘should’ as well. The Page of Pentacles is ‘him’ and ‘he thinks’ and ‘he is.’ And then there is the brake, the 2 of swords, to stop him. The tone of this spread is his interest in marriage. Although it can easily read ‘He does not think of legally marrying,’ statistically speaking, this spread seldom would mean that. REMEMBER: We don’t have a question that limits and specifies the meanings, so we widely interpret what they COULD mean.
