Here is an email reading a client kindly gave me permission to post. It is a good example of how explicit Tarot is when it says ‘It’s over.’ It’s also a good example of the cards that express a disturbed or even mentally unwell person – in different aspects: Ten of Pentacles, dysfunctional personal lives; Five of Swords, combative attitude (or actual combat); Page of Cups, confused; Seven of Swords, to violate others’ trust or to double-cross; Moon, to be deranged or mentally ill or a ‘lost soul’; Four of Pentacles, feeling inferior; Five of Cups, depression and regret. (Not all these cards say those things in this spread. Nevertheless, they show a pattern that this fellow is disturbed.)

Page of Wands – Page of Wands is one of the identity cards of Tarot Verbatim™. This card emphasizes ‘who.’ It makes pronouns (and only a pronoun) at times. Think of a whodunit: Page of Wands is the person who, or the guy who. Page of Wands means literally ‘type of person’ or, with Ten of Pentacles (a group-of-people card) ‘one of those people.’ Watch for Page of Wands to translate ‘in person,’ as in a personal appearance, or a face-to-face conversation.

When Page of Pentacles represents an individual in your story, he is: a great guy, a respectable person, a good-guy, a better person, being straight with, in good shape. Page of Wands also is often: young, good-looking, a flirt, one who talks (salesman, etc.).

Page of Wands is closely associated with speech, with talking, saying, telling, chatting, getting talked into, a discussion with a specified subject, making a speech – and other like things.

Temperance – One would think Temperance would be about blending, flow, angel, and moderation in alcohol. Nope. Not in Tarot Verbatim™.

In Tarot Verbatim™, Temperance is relationship and close relationship, partners and partnership (including ‘equal intimate partnership’), deal or dealing with, transaction, associating with, a back-and-forth conversation, intimacy, standing next to (propinquity), two people, ‘we,’ ‘together,’ and healing.

Today, Temperance associates with Ten of Pentacles, which is about a group of people and about people-problems, and also associates with Page of Wands, who is about talking. These two bring out Temperance’s relationship meanings, and its conversation meanings.

Today, Temperance is mostly phrases about getting along, relationship, intimacy, dealing with people or a person, intimate association, buddies or close friends, and ‘the two of you.’

Today Temperance also is a transaction and an encounter, and it’s a conversation (‘the way he talks to you’).
Ten of Pentacles – You’re looking at a family quarrel, an issue between generations: Grandpa, the Patriarch wants another male heir, and Son-Husband goes along with that. Wife already has a squalling log on her leg and it isn’t time for another one yet: her view. The males don’t care. She pleads in vain, trying to reason with Husband as he stares away from her. If this illustration doesn’t illustrate this family-clan dissension, I will eat the Ten of Pentacles card without salt or pepper. (In other Tarot systems, this is not its meaning.)

Ten of Pentacles – as a marriage and family card in Tarot Verbatim™ – can represent any sort of group of people of any size, but Ten of Pentacles is the ‘negative’ marriage card, the one about its challenges and problems, and so it is also about people problems, political problems – anything like that.

Today, Ten of Pentacles is all about sick relationships, people who don’t get along, difficult or cranky people, dysfunctional people, the wrong crowd, other people’s problems, a bad company, people who are infected with some bug, their differences, and even ‘heavies’ and ‘jailbirds.’

Today Ten of Pentacles is also about problems out there in the world generally: the wild side, imperfect world, Rehab, trouble and problems, and even side effects.

Advice Growing up in a screwed-up bad scene motivates a person to get out of there and succeed (sometimes). The opposite of this is the person who has the good-guy respectable look and uses it to take advantage, con, mooch and steal from fellow humans. Self-improvement or destroying others: Contrast. We also say that a person who has exited the internal or external ghetto can inspire others to do so by example.

A rough life with rough people makes a guy want to be oh so clean.
Family browbeats the ruffian to polish himself and be a success.

Being straight up and being a fighter, you can handle any kind of trouble.
An honest politician gets the job done by intimidation.
Deal harshly with troublemakers and they decide to talk sweet to you.
You have to get rough with some of those people people before you can get them to clean up their act.

Sleazy thuggy in-laws get ahead by dropping my name.
Puts in a good word for a fellow who is in a lot of criminal trouble about cars.

Uh-oh. The Bad Guys are here and so is The Thug. But we have the Good Guy and we have motivation, ambition to succeed. Hmm, movin’ on up out of the slums or dysfunctional family, methinks!
Bad Guys is Ten of Pentacles, the misfit clan, the dysfunctional family, the sleazeball relatives, even the mob or gang or politicians; and Five of Swords is taking advantage, stealing, being an intimidating thug, an unethical scag. If Ten of Pentacles is being The Mob, Five of Swords would be the muscle.
Over on the other side of the ledger, Chariot and Page of Wands are straight arrows. Chariot is a strategist who succeeds by using both elements that are in his favor and elements that aren’t to get ahead. Headwind or tailwind both get him there. He is skilled, able, ambitious; he succeeds. And Page of Wands is a natural to succeed the easy way because of his looks and his smooth talking. He is the tennis pro, the fair-haired boy. He has trines in his chart and a rich mama that loves him. He mainly has the look. (By the way, Pages can be females, too.)
