Seven of Pentacles is pondering, wondering, and doubting whether his work on the cucumber plant will actually produce him some cucumbers. He has his doubts as he leans on his shovel. Both Five of Cups and Seven of Pentacles are pondering, but Five of Cups seldom translates ‘pondering.’

Five of Cups is engrossed in thoughts of the past, in a dark mood. Haunted by the past, regrets, what-ifs, wishing to god I had or hadn’t, waste and water under the bridge. This is the card for mourning, obviously – the black robe. He or she is in a blue mood, grieving or depressed.

High Priestess is one of the cards whose main meaning is thought. She knows, is the expert, is native to the spiritual world, is deep. You could say she is thought.

So we are in the groove of moody thought today.

Seven of Pentacles In the Rider Waite Tarot pantheon (cast of entity characters), the story illustrated here is this fellow wondering whether his cucumbers are going to produce because cucumber is one of those plants that need both genders to produce. So Seven of Pentacles means wonder, speculate, or question – including the idea to put the interpretation into question form. Page of Cups also puts its neighbors into question form.

Five of Cups Five of Cups is the blues – is a loss that haunts. Spilled wine, we say – what a waste. The black robe and bent head is mourning or grief, is feeling that loss acutely. Notice the ‘water under the bridge’ in the illustration? That, too. It means a loss, and even means being a loser or feeling like one (or referring to someone else, or to their situation, of course). It comes up for ‘wishing to god I had’ – or hadn’t. Naturally it is a literal loss in business inquiries, and a loss of body fluid in medical inquiries. Once in a while it is something spilled literally on the ground or floor – hopefully not brake fluid.

High Priestess She knows and does not act. This meaning grows out of the occult background of the first four cards: The Magician means to act and not know. Anyway, we have ‘deep knowledge,’ expertise, expert, a woman who stays or sits there, as well as a passive stance or approach. It also relates to the mental or spiritual plane. Quite often it just means ‘her.’

It’s called Dark Night of the Soul in mystic life. Right after a peak experience (with its exhilaration and its epiphany) comes viewing the past as my having been without all that enlightenment … having been a benighted soul, a loser. All my missteps! It’s a very rotten counter-reaction feeling of shame. Or in ordinary life, you kick yourself when you realize what you could have done, what you could have been … but you missed the boat and the past is now a closed book. We are there today, preoccupied with the past and with our thoughts. Coulda-woulda-shoulda.

He is the very physical, edgy country boy type and she is the sedentary bookish quiet lady: the bricklayer and the secretary. Nevertheless, they are happy. One sentence sees him as the happily married man from the point of view of the other woman. ================================================================================= Is this the first time you come here? Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

========================================================= MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD In the center is the happy marriage card, Ten of Cups, which also means a good house, a good neighborhood, the couple (and some other things), and above that is the card that represents ‘husband.’ So we have a husband in a happy marriage. To the left is to ponder, to wonder, to doubt, Seven of Pentacles; to the right is the passive lady, the quiet, sedentary, knowledgeable and maybe secretive Lady. MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS Seven of Pentacles shows a grower pondering whether his cucumber vines will produce, whether both genders of the plant are in the vicinity. It means to wonder or ponder, ‘it seems,’ and such things. Ten of Cups is the ‘happily ever after’ card which shows a house with a rainbow over it, the embracing couple whose boy- and girl- child prance around on a clear blue-sky day. Its meanings are right there: living together, marriage, house, house in good neighborhood, happiness, happy marriage. High Priestess is the quiet woman who knows all and refrains from acting on it. She sits (sedentary) on something obscured by her robes, with the Kaballah’s signature items behind her, and with the book of wisdom in her lap, the occult cross on a necklace. King of Wands is the husband card, and also the country boy (or redneck if he is being bad), the angry, irritated, edgy common fellow, the redhead. He has a club instead of a sword as his weapon, his left hand is beginning to make a fist, and there’s no smile on that face.

Hmmm, she thinks maybe she is staying in this relationship for several reasons. An intimate conversation speculating about spiritual things. How many relationships can a quiet girl have? It seems she is getting closer but she is quiet. It seems the lady is getting closer. How many transactions has she done? Speculate about all these secret deals/transactions. Why talk about what his dealings with her are? She is quiet as he asks questions about her dealings. Dealing with her, you wonder how many secrets she knows. Can spiritual healing be that fast? Should you talk about angels or keep it secret? Spiritual conversation with an angel … or what? Wondering about many spiritual encounters. A spiritual quest to have direct conversations.

Sooo, what do these mean to you? Such a variety in today’s messages. Generally, there is some communications going on that are about transactions, secrets, spiritual things, and/or relationships. The Temperance-High Priestess combination is what suggests the spiritual-angelic topic. The ‘intimacy’ theme is from the Temperance Rider-Waite Tarot card. ‘Intimate conversation’ is what you get from Temperance + Eight of Wands. When you ponder the meanings and illustrations below, if you have the time and inclination, you can derive some more sentences. Remember, for the sentence to ‘count,’ it has to include all four Rider Waite Tarot cards, but you don’t have to use all four in “solitaire” that is, doing it yourself.

Meanings and Illustrations:

Today’s is kind of miscellaneous, isn’t it? The first card – Temperance – means close, intimate, intimate relationship, relationship, dealing with a person one-on-one, dealing directly, transaction, deals. It also relates to things angelic, and to healing. I used all or most of these meanings in our sentences. Just look at the illustration on this Rider Waite Tarot card. It shows an angel. It has a symbol of healing on its chest. Pouring the water back and forth means a back and forth flow, hence intimacy, and dealing and intimacy.

The second card is the High Priestess. She knows all. She has the Book in her hands. She is quiet, has secret lore. Being passive suggests being a lady in the old-fashioned sense. This card reflects the Kaballah: See the ‘B’ and the ‘J’ on the pillars – loosely justice and mercy. Long story – later. The third card, Seven of Pentacles is pretty straightforward. It is one of the ‘duh’ cards. To question or wonder, maybe, speculative or speculating, ‘why?’, wonder, ‘or what,’ or any questioning, plaintive expression. It can be a quest once in a while. The illustration shows a fellow wondering whether he planted both male and female cucumber plants – whether he will get cucumbers. The last card – the Eight of Wands – is messages, conversation(s), a list of anything, a plural on a surrounding Tarot card, many, increasing or increasingly. It also means fast, one after another. Its illustration shows one stick after another flying in the wind. You could picture lines, as in printed messages, so it expresses ‘texting’ as well.
