Seven of Pentacles –  You have done all the prep work – bought all the supplies, maintained the equipment, pulled the weeds, fertilized, watered – and you watched that little seed grow into a big mature bush, ready to bloom. But it may not bloom just because this gendered plant does not have one of the same kind and opposite gender close by enough for the bee to do his business. So you don’t know, and you won’t know until the time comes, whether all this labor will be rewarded.

Uncertainty. Uncertainty about the outcome. You wonder, you ponder, you think, you doubt, you question, and you are not sure. Seven of Pentacles is one of the cards that can put your sentences into question form.

Seven of Pentacles is also figuring something out, whether it’s an algebra formula or your love life. Wonder, ponder, deduce, puzzle out ….

Two other categories of meaning for Seven of Pentacles are hesitation and likelihood – ‘likelihood’ because probability is involved. Once in a great while, Seven of Pentacles is about theory or hypothesis.

Strength – Foresight gives you the ability to prevent or defuse what would have been a problem before it comes upon you. That’s a hallmark of a mature or spiritual person, and that is Strength’s core meaning: Rendering the monster harmless, or Taming the Beast. It’s about dealing with the shadow side within too – overcoming vices as well as potential or actual opposition. Strength is more diplomat than combatant. You see her dressed in her Sunday best, her hands gently closing the mouth of the lion as she stands by his side and strokes him. Think taming a dog. The dog, like the lion here, wants to snarl but is influenced to … purr.

Strength very frequently is about preventing, fixing, handling, overcoming, or being the solution to some challenge or problem. Strength, by its title, you know, is about being able or capable of finessing, of taking charge, of being assertive, of being such a strong influence you deter opposition from afar.

Because Strength has her hands on the mouth of the lion, a number of fairly unrelated phrases belong to this Tarot card. Phrases like hands-on are common, and get a grip on, as well as ‘a problem on your hands.’ The most common words for Strength are about handling, preventing, and influencing.

So Strength his a fairly saintly card. But watch for her to show up as a pushy or assertive or even aggressive dame who intimidates. And once in a while, she ‘has him wrapped around her little finger’ or ‘wears the pants in the family.’

Page of Wands – Here’s a fine upstanding (literally – see him stand up) young man, well dressed and talking up. He is being his best self – very cooperative and clean-cut. The main meanings of Page of Wands are: the good-guy ones; the identity ones (who I really am); the good-looking or handsome fellow; youth or a young man; and the speak, say, tell, talk category of meanings so many other cards also belong to. Note that this is the card for Prince Charming, although Knight of Cups as The Warm Puppy boyfriend joins him there.

We have questioning in Seven of Pentacles. We have identity – as in who I am – in Page of Wands. And we have overcoming and influence, and preventing, and solution, in Strength. These elements make several thoughts and stories.

Seven of Pentacles and Page of Wands say ‘self-doubt.’ Add Strength, and you’re overcoming self-doubt, see? They also say ‘I don’t know what to say’ and ‘expressing doubts.’ But look out, because Seven of Pentacles can simply mean ‘think’ when that simply means ‘opinion,’ so these two cards can say ‘I say what I think.’ They could also say ‘think out loud’ because Page of Wands is talking. See that?

Strength and Page of Wands tell a story about someone’s influence or effect making (Strength) a better person of another (Page of Wands). Seven of Pentacles and Strength say ‘Not sure I can do this’ or ‘Not sure I can handle this’ or even ‘Don’t know whether I got a grip on (it, or myself, or whatever).’

Seven of Pentacles means to question, and invites the reader to put the material in question form, as does Page of Cups.

Queen of Wands…………. Here’s that sensible competent woman who organizes her world. She is a married woman, and she runs her household as it should be run. She is a manager who also runs the tight ship at the workplace. Ideally, she is your mother or wife.

Page of Wands ………. That nice young man earnestly intends to fit into society in a good way. He is well-spoken and well-dressed. He is handsome too – and usually young. He fits in well as the son of Queen of Wands.

Four Card Spreads, Our Daily Spread

Advice  What type of person are you?  What categories do you fit and not fit into?  This determines your destiny in so many unspoken and unwritten ways,  especially in the workplace.  Posture and dress and speech classify you and me as if there were a caste system in spite of our many ways of pussyfooting around it.  Even more than ability,  talent,  intelligence,  having the look and/or being the type opens doors of opportunity.  Some professions less than others,  it’s true,  but even in those it pays to mind your appearance as much as your manners,  and exhibit the customary behavior for the field.

(At the time of production,  there’s no way to correct the lack of spaces after punctuation.  I am writing around it now!)

Talking for a living is not quite the usual thing.

Being that type of person (Hierophant + Page of Wands)

How can he be proud to be a working-class fellow?

He is the type who asks you one question after another.

Am not sure what the average working-class person would say.

I wonder why the average Joe,  every time,  says these things.

I guess that’s the way the average working-class person talks.

Can you do the same thing in the same way over and over – is that you?

He is the type to question the way things are usually done.

The work is so standardized;  are you that type person?

If I were good-looking,  would I have my usual job?

How come the average worker here is so good-looking?

He seems to get jobs by looking and talking so clean-cut.

Having the right look for the job seems to be enough.

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS:  LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

 

Respectability,  conformity,  being accepted and acceptable,  having the right look are meanings common to both Hierophant and Page of Wands.  Page of Wands is more about appearance –  in particular being good-looking.  Hierophant is more about standards and moral strictures.

 

So what does this apply to? –  well,  the workplace or job or employment,  Eight of Pentacles says.   Both Hierophant and Eight of Pentacles refer to a routine –  Hierophant as ceremonial routine and Eight of Pentacles as doing the same operation over and over.

 

The remaining Rider Waite card asks a questions or calls something into question.

 

So our subject is about fitting in at work,  about being the type to work here.  It is also about just being a type of person or not.

 

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS:  LEARN TAROT BY THE PICTURES

 

Hierophant means pope.  There he is in a red robe,  monks kneeling to his authority.  Conformity galore.  Here it will refer to the repetitive routines we do on the job.

 

Page of Wands dresses the part and speaks well.  He is all about image and fitting in and being acceptable,  about being the type and type-casting yourself.  He is the good-looking respectable young man your mother wants/wanted you to marry.  He can be vain and foppish as he is pictured in our Rider Waite deck here.

 

Eight of Pentacles is about repetitive action,  doing something in the same way over and over,  as the carpenter makes one identical tile after another here.  Work,  employment,  the workplace,  the job,  being the worker or being working-class.

 

Seven of Pentacles ponders and puzzles and questions.  When you grow plants that have gender,  they don’t bear fruit unless both genders are within some vicinity of one another.  This is the questionable situation in the illustration.
