GUIDANCE When you’re as old as I am, you know all about things that most everyone is wondering about. He’s lost, and you let him figure it out for himself instead of being the know-it-all. But you wonder whether that is the wise thing when the situation is so very up-in-the-air. Some people are more willing than others to be the party-pooper at the festival of doubt.
Could This Be YOU?

.
Hermit – Here’s a sober and saintly old guy who’s out to help us right where we are: He’s looking for us to provide a meal and a place to spend the night where he lives. He is wise and willing to advise. Hermit is our friend. He shines a light on our path, enlightens or wises us up – it’s a perilous road out there that he’s the guide to. Think of Hermit as the realist, the practical and pragmatic approach or person. This card very often translates ‘know.’
.
Hermit is all about search, and looking: Here are the words and phrases for that from today’s sentences: to look; taking a good look; looking at cold hard facts; what I’m looking for; looks like; take a good look at; seeing it the way it is; looking at; searching through.
.
Hermit is all about what’s real, what’s true, the facts and the truth … looking at the cold hard facts and investigating the situation.
.
Hermit is on the road and is on the path, and this card means both those things – as well as being on track.
.
Hermit appears for virtues that fit his story: honesty, helping, sincerity, kindness, coming the other person. He especially stands for sobriety.
.
Other things Hermit appears for are being religious; nighttime and being awake at night, or night travel; and being a doctor, counselor, or other healer. The garb he is wearing identifies him as a doctor in the Middle Ages.
Seven of Pentacles – What you see is what you get with Seven of Pentacles. You can see him leaning on his spade or shovel wondering about the plant. He doesn’t know, he wonders, he asks himself – and most of his language reflects this. He has done everything he can do for the plant to be successful in bearing cucumbers, but its future is uncertain. That uncertain future is a big part of Seven of Pentacles’ message.
.
Here are today’s words and phrases about all this: asking myself; ask yourself; he questions; raises questions; How did I?; Am I?; or is it? I wonder; guessing; I guess; wondering what to do; still wonder about it; I wonder what’s; makes you wonder; when you marvel; not so sure; it seems; I seem to have; in doubt; maybe; somehow; sort of, not knowing what to think, don’t know, and don’t know where.
Seven of Cups – This illustration represents the moment the SHTF, and it describes the shock and confusion we feel when, unexpectedly, we lose control, or our situation is out of control. Seven of Cups owns the word ‘bizarre.’ Think nasty surprises. Think brain fog, imagining things, crazy person, b.s., shock, ‘hits me in the face,’ and ‘what the heck.’ Think lost – things or people, including yourself. Think confused or drunk.
.
Think pieces of things, which includes your world or a dish being shattered, and which includes a jumble of unrelated items, like a purse being dumped out or a file cabinet in disarray. Seven of Cups also means phrases like ‘all kinds of things.’
.
This is the card for data in a mess or a house in a mess … or any mess. Your life in a mess, even. Chaos is the word with Seven of Cups.
.
Seven of Cups also describes being high, hallucinating, delirium tremens, having a vision.
.
The picture shows the magician’s apprentice story (or Pandora’s Box). In this story, a boo-boo has drastic consequences: the release of evil spirits. The good spirit is released after the fact. Think SHTF. The apprentice ‘bit off more than he can chew,’ and is confronted with a situation he cannot deal with that is widespread or ‘all over the place.’ Losing control, and things being out of control, are what Seven of Cups is all about. This card can appear as a warning that you are about to make a mess of things.
.
Among the ‘lesser includeds’ for Seven of Cups are all sorts of surprises and amazement, being caught unprepared, being shocked, and even The Muse experience – the trance we get into when we are creating, that seems to come in whole cloth from ‘out there.’
.
.
.
.
LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES
Once again we have two similar cards and an outlier, an unrelated one. Seven of Pentacles wonders and
doesn’t know about the situation he is in (the plant is mature but has not yet blossomed) and
Seven of Cups is presented with an
out-of-control
all-over-the-place scene around him.
.
Hermit, on the other hand, has been there and done that, and is a solution
in search of a problem
out on the road traveled by strangers – Everyman’s
helpful friend.
Hermit is wise, and
Seven of Pentacles
doesn’t know,
wonders and
questions.
Hermit is an
old
monk with an ironclad routine in a
serene life, and
Seven of Cups is overwhelmed by
everything at once
going out of control in a nasty way. It’s suitable here that
Hermit is the
medic
arriving on the scene of
chaos with his
wisdom intact.
.
Hermit is searching, and
Seven of Pentacles is
wondering.
Hermit represents the
facts and/or
the truth that
Seven of Pentacles
wants to know.
Hermit is
sane and
Seven of Cups can be
a crazy person (or dealing with one). We also have a picture of being
the wise one,
the one who knows, when others are
speculating,
wondering,
doubting. So
Hermit is the
sober one at the
drunken party or at the festival of
doubt, maybe the (?
Virgo?)
know-it-all whose friends are
wondering about something.
.
Hermit is night, and
being up at night, and
Seven of Cups is a dream or nightmare.
.
Hermit is sober and
Seven of Cups can be a
disorderly drunk, can be
high, or even be
delirium tremens.
.
Hermit is
a religious person, and
Seven of Cups is a vision. Today
Seven of Pentacles has him
doubting the
vision.
.
So we go from doubt in
Seven of Pentacles to
searching for the facts or
the truth in
Hermit. These cards describe
an investigator assembling the facts (
Hermit) from
a lot of unrelated clues (
Seven of Cups) to answer the
whodunit
question in his mind (
Seven of Pentacles).
.
Like I keep saying, when you have two similar cards and one that is different, you have stories.
.
AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:
.
Once again we have two similar cards and an outlier, an unrelated one. Seven of Pentacles wonders and doesn’t know about the situation he is in (the plant is mature but has not yet blossomed) and Seven of Cups is presented with an out-of-control all-over-the-place scene around him.

.
Like I keep saying, when you have two similar cards and one that is different, you have stories.
.

When I find myself in a whirlwind of chaos, I try to figure it out for myself, of course, but I am also mindful that human history is a long chaotic saga, and other humans have probably encountered a similar quandary to what I feel around me. Seven of Pentacles – He doesn’t know whether his cucumber plant has an opposite-gender plant nearby enough so they both can bear fruit. Some plants are like that, and you never know unless you plant a bunch of them yourself. This Seven of Pentacles card is commonly called ‘doubt about the outcome’ in Tarot books. In Tarot Verbatim, it is one of the ‘duh’ cards (like Page of Cups). Duh cards are when you wonder, when you don’t know, when you ask ‘why.’
.
Seven of Pentacles represents when you’re not sure, but you think so. It is about figuring it out too, and it often indicates a question being asked.
Seven of Cups – Seven of Cups too is about confusion and not knowing, but Seven of Cups is a situation that’s in-your-face: Something or everything is out of control. The picture shows miscellaneous items all over the place, and that is one of Seven of Cups’ main meanings. It often means pieces of things. Today we have: all sorts of ways, many things at a time, an ocean of raw data, and ‘every way it can possibly be done.’ The sorcerer has lost control of the spirits because he is only an apprentice – think the movie ‘Fantasia.’ All hell breaks loose.
.
This illustration also represents Pandora’s Box. The veiled and framed in red cup represents the good spirit that was loosed after the bad ones escaped in that story, so there is always hope no matter how messed-up things are at the moment.
.
The sudden surprise of the loosed mischievous spirits gives Seven of Swords meanings like: surprise, shock, scandal.
Magician – You see the magician using his tools (which are the suits of Tarot) to bring about something. His right hand reaches for some energy above, and his left hand points earthward to ground the operation. So Magician is mainly about doing, getting something done, bringing something about.
.
Since the card is a ‘1,’ it stands for the male principle, which in esoteric cultures means ‘active,’ so Magician will translate any form of the verb ‘to act.’ This male principle concept also makes Magician translate male pronouns. It also will translate first-person pronouns like ‘i’ and ‘myself.’
.
As the ‘1,’ Magician is a beginning, so the card often says ‘to start’ or ‘initiate.’
.
As a card that means ‘do,’ Magician gets absorbed into other verbs and just contributes a pronoun to your spread. Today ‘I break’ reflects the breaking into pieces of Seven of Cups, leaving just the ‘I’ for Magician to claim.

Two of our cards express doubt (
Seven of Pentacles), uncertainty (both
Seven of Pentacles and
Seven of Cups), and
things out of control (
Seven of Cups). The other one is
decisive action,
Magician. So a lot of our sentences are about
not knowing
what to do and about
taking action when
things are a mess.
.
Seven of Pentacles’ ‘
I don’t know’ hitches up with
Magician’s ‘
start’ meaning, ‘
I don’t know where
to start.’
Seven of Pentacles is so easy to work with: Besides meaning ‘
I don’t know,’ it also says
‘I think’ and similar phrases. You can put either one of those meanings into just about any sentence.
.
Then there’s Seven of Cups and
Magician which also blend well: That
man is
crazy,
doing
several things at once,
all kinds of ways
to do it,
what I did
when I was drunk, I
smash it into pieces,
what to do
when things fall apart, and
I made

When things are a mess,
just do something –
anything. That’s mostly what we advise today.

This weekend’s question is simply: About the people around you that you are dealing with.
Advice is that zany people have stable relationships if they are close. People who deal with one another as one seem to deal with the craziness around them just fine. There are so many kinds of partnering up that you have to wonder what marriage really is. Just as there are a million ways for a real estate deal to go kaflooey. If you have someone who validates you and it’s mutual, the two of you can handle anything.

Is this the first time you come here? Well … what to do:
*Go to Daily Message Tarot Analysis below. At least one of those sentences has something to say to you. Pick those out. They are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. (It is a group message like a horoscope, except Tarot isn’t based on someone else’s birth data, so it can be specific, accurate, detailed and direct. Our experiment here is “How much more accurate is it?”)
The Question for weekdays is: “Tell the visitors here something useful and meaningful to them.”
The Question for weekends is stated right on top on those days. Comment or call if you have a suggestion for a question.
(Some days are ‘keep an eye open for’ and some days are ‘green light, go fast.’)
*Go to Advice to apply what those sentences say (in the best way) for you. (Advice is everyone’s favorite part.) Did you come here for your predictions? – You are done now – See you tomorrow.
Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

Meanings and Illustrations: Observation of the Spread
Seven of Pentacles and Seven of Cups both speculate about something unknown. In the Rider Waite Tarot Seven of Pentacles, you wonder whether it will happen. In its Seven of Cups, you wonder at what has happened, it has sprung up and is ‘all over the place.’
Both of the remaining cards mean a close relationship. Temperance stresses the close one-on-one intimate partner relationship; Four of Wands is a family or marriage, or even a company or community. It also stands for the domestic country or native country: home. So it also represents the real estate of the home, as well as the building of a company.
Meanings and Illustrations: Individual Rider Waite Tarot Cards
Seven of Pentacles wonders, ponders and puzzles. He has done the action, and now comes waiting to learn whether the desired result will happen. Its illustration shows the fellow contemplating his cucumber plants as to whether they will bear fruit.
Four of Wands is the home or marriage, the company or its building, as well as the home community or home nation. The illustration is a wedding of leading families, reminiscent of the way treaties and agreements were sealed with princess brides in ye olden days.
Seven of Cups is when you’ve blown it, when things are way beyond your control and right under your nose. It is about disparate parts, a mess, things scattered about like debris. The illustration shows the sorcerer’s apprentice story or Pandora’s Box story.
Temperance is close relationship, back-and-forth repartee or negotiation, intimacy and being partners or being together or joint … so ‘intimate partner’ as well. The illustration shows an angel pouring wine and water together, standing in a stream with irises (I presume) blooming, at sunrise. Angel has an elaborate halo and unfurled wings.
