Synopsis
|
There’s a saying that you get the exact degree of grief you are willing to endure. The corollary of that – that if you won’t put up with any aggravation, your life will attract good experiences because you attract good people – is what we examine here today. She has a beautiful romance with a good man who is also someone everyone likes – and that’s because she turned down all the other candidates who were, to her, unacceptable.

Six of Cups
So how does this Six of Cups card today mean these things: with flowers, romance, trust, past, favors, young ones, old-fashioned, guy who loves, children, childhood, past love affair, sweetness, home, and sharing? Our picture shows a sweet scene of a little boy giving a little girl flowers, dressed the way people did long ago, and the adoring and adorable couple is in front of a residence (either apartment building or estate).
Page of Wands
Page of Wands could easily be the little boy in the sweet scene in Six of Cups as a young man. He is Prince Charming, a flirt, a sweet guy, clean, good-looking, respectable – just the type (and he does mean ‘type of person – is an identity card) to give his girl flowers.
But he has a life aside from romance and just being the Good Guy. Page of Wands is all about being your best self, the best person you can be – being honest and respectable. He is proud, and he stands up for himself too. He is also good-looking and well-spoken.
And he stands for all kinds of speak/tell/talk/say. In fact, Page of Wands often translates a pronoun plus a word that means talk, like ‘he says.’
World
World is about spiritual realities, as Wheel of Fortune and Moon are, but not today. We are not using quite a few items of World’s dictionary here. (You can google ‘World Tarot Verbatim’ for the full spectrum.) The illustration shows a nude dancing gal with two wands, separated – by a circle of wreath – from the same otherworldly entities you see in Wheel of Fortune. Those entities interfere in people’s lives, usually in a mischievous way.
So the main idea in World is that the bad guys and bad situations don’t get through. She is dancing away, so she has no problems – and that phrase solidly belongs to World! No problems, no consequence, no trouble, no troublesome people. She won’t pay attention to them, she ignores and disregards and acts like she doesn’t know the pests.
World doesn’t just repel bad influences; World is discriminating, and is in a very private bubble. She is the woman with no faults (they are on the outside of the circle, you see) and ‘it isn’t her fault’ either. World is about having no issues.
The exclusionary effect of the wreath goes both ways too: ‘Experienced women disregard him; she never knew the guy; she acts like she doesn’t know you.
World is also a shapely woman, and can be literally a dancer or a nude dancer.
Such a discriminating lady she is, that only the sweetest and the best fellows talk to her or flirt with her. She is so experienced she does not acknowledge or respond to questionable elements in her environment. (World is not one specific personality type; these characteristics can apply to several lifestyles and profiles.)
|
Now Without The Pictures
|
Good people make a good scene together without even trying – just by being themselves. World is the superior woman, the shapely lady who makes an art of minding her own business and not letting people get in her way or trip her up. Page of Wands is the optimally clean-cut good-looking well-spoken likable man. Six of Cups describes the old-fashioned sharing and caring relationship two such people would have. These cards describe people of good character and personality along with describing people who look good.
World is famous for not putting up with anything, and for being a very private different-drummer person, usually female but not always; it can describe the traits separately from being a person-card.
Six of Cups is old friends, old lovers, and even the house in the old neighborhood. Six of Cups is cozy, comfortable, safe and trusting, which applies to all sorts of situations, people and things.
Today we are about the good life, body and soul.

Tarot Verbatim
GUIDANCE We compare and contrast the past to the present day, and we compare and contrast who we were then with who we are now. We do this both favorably and unfavorably, cautioning ourselves not to be too forthright about the whole thing. This is the backwash where nostalgia meets the twenty-twenty vision of hindsight.

Six of Cups – Page of Wands – Six of Swords
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
.
………………….…………………… In the middle is identity: who we are, now, Page of Wands, the good outspoken upfront fellow. To his left is the sweet past, Six of Cups. To his right is the regrettable past we are leaving, Six of Swords. Our stories are all about the past and how it relates to what will be – all sorts of scenarios. We are probably re-living the past in the light of heading on out in a different direction.
………………………….. Six of Cups is the past (of whatever kind), the good old days, old friends and old lovers, exchanges and gifts, tender scenes in romance, children and childhood, and home … home-sweet-home home, and the home you grew up in. You see well-cared-for children in front of a residence, and the boy is giving the girl a pot of flowers. They are both well-dressed and all is well with them. They are good people living a good life.
………………………….. Page of Wands is who you are now, and is talking, being proud and taking a stand for what you believe and feel. As a person, he is young and handsome, well-dressed and well-spoken, making the best impression he can as he is starting out in life. He means ‘talk’ and its synonyms. This card also means identity: a type of person. He can be ‘cute boy’ young girls crow about. He can be stylish, even a metrosexual sort of fellow. He is good people – the fellow we all like.
..……………………… .Six of Swords has its spectrum of meanings around leaving. The main thing to watch for here is that it can mean both ‘from now on’ and ‘anymore,’ which in use are often contradictory. It depends on which end of its action you are viewing it from: whether the leaving part or the going to part. It is usually leaving and putting the past behind – which dovetails with Six of Cups being the past. It can often mean avoid or evade, bypass, not anymore, from now on, isn’t as bad as it was, phasing out or drifting into, getting out from under, recovering from, getting on or moving on with life, going overseas, being on your way, moving, slipping away from or leaving a scene, used to (which also dovetails with Six of Cups meaning the same thing), waning, travel (especially over water of any sort or size), and quite a few other such phrases. There’s a mood to Six of Swords of hope … things are definitely going to be better … and numb despair over a loss, including ‘the departed’ – the loss of a dear one who has died. It is getting out of something and into something else, moving forward. Yes, one of its meanings is to depart – as on a cruise ship.
……….…………. Six of Cups and Page of Wands Six of Cups and Page of Wands are both good people, so they can be interchangeable for that meaning they have in common. Six of Cups has attachments to other meanings like children and the past; Page of Wands has attachments to other meanings like speaking up and being attractive. Both these cards are young too.
Six of Cups is childhood and children, and Page of Wands is identity – who I am (or who I was, if the whole thing is past tense). Sentences about this are:
The nice little boy is a nice young man.
My childhood background – and look who I am now.
He is proud to _ a safe neighborhood for the children.
I stand up for myself … a kid ….
… from childhood and being myself.
Six of Cups and Page of Wands are talking about (Page of Wands) the good old days or the past (Six of Cups). This is the language produced by this pair’s ‘talk about the past’ category:
I said … a long time ago.
Talking about the good old days.
He tells about his youth ….
Nostalgic discussion.
… saying things I used to.
I am … as I used to be.
I am the person I used to be.
I am as honest as I was back then.
Talking about the past
Page of Wands is the respectable honest fellow everyone likes, is being your best self, is the young and good-look guy or the naive nice person; Six of Cups is also young, naive, sweet and nice. Here are the sentences and phrases for this part of these two cards’ meanings:
Sweet loving talk.
This is me being my best self, being so old-fashioned.
The young good-looking guy I was years ago.
That naive nice person.
… a scene a long time ago, to be a respectable fellow.
Being honest and forthright about your past.
Lastly, we have his home, and he is at home here: in Page of Wands – the fellow, him – and Six of Cups, home. We also have Page of Wands as ‘flirt’ and Six of Cups as ‘with the young ones.’ x..
……….………… Six of Cups and Six of Swords The first thing you see when you look at this is leaving the child or childhood behind, or leaving a comfortable home, which could simply be your commute, nothing important, and could be gut-wrenching. Watch the two meanings for Six of Swords get in our way here: ‘from now on’ and ‘not anymore.’
Speaking of ‘from now on,’ these two sentences make use of it:
Sweet loving _ from now on.
…being old-fashioned from now on.
And speaking of ‘anymore,’ these sentences make use of it:
Not the nice little boy anymore.
I put my childhood background behind.
I’m not a kid anymore.
… the young ones anymore.
Recovering from childhood
And now for Six of Swords’ main application, leaving. Combined with Six of Cups, which is, here, ‘very young’ and ‘the children’ and ‘this home town’ and, doubly dipped, ‘safe neighborhood for the children.’ ‘Moving to’ is of course actually leaving.
LEAVING HOME
He left home very young.
He leaves the children behind.
Kids move away from this home town.
Move to a safe neighborhood for the children.
… at home here, and am leaving it.
Leaving for home overseas.
I was leaving a long time ago.
And now we go into the past, which both cards here reference, and to ‘the good old days’ versus the future … including the future that would have been:
… youth, how the future is going to be better.
Nostalgic about how things aren’t the way they were anymore.
The good old days that could have been.
And now we speak of leaving the past, and the person you were then, behind. Page of Wands influences this some, as to the nice person, but, see, Six of Cups is also the nice person. Here are the sentences for that:
NOT THE PERSON I WAS
I avoid things I used to _.
Not as _ as I used to be.
Not the _ I used to be.
Not as _ as I was back then.
Not the _ I was years ago.
Not that naive nice person anymore.
Left a _ scene a long time ago.
Avoid the past.
Avoid … about your past. x..
……….………… Page of Wands and Six of Swords Page of Wands and Six of Swords Page of Wands is you at your best, or anyone else at his or her best; and it is also about talking and talking up. Six of Swords is leaving something behind and saying ‘From now on ….’ Here are those sentences:
MY BEST SELF FROM NOW ON
… talk from now on.
This is me being my best self from now on.
I put _ behind, and look who I am now.
He tells how the future is going to be better.
Six of Swords is not anymore, just put any card in there, and that is what Six of Swords ISN’T anymore … or look carefully: It could be that card is what it IS, and some other card is what it isn’t being anymore. See where Page of Wands and Six of Swords say he IS the nice young man and isn’t SOME OTHER CARD anymore:
‘Not … anymore; he is the nice young man.’
‘I stand up for myself; I am not a _ anymore.’
But the rest of these sentences put the ‘not anymore’ directly onto Page of Wands’ meanings:
Discussion about how things aren’t the way they were anymore.
I am not that nice person anymore.
Don’t flirt anymore.
The main meaning of Six of Swords is leaving, and it sometimes means only that – none of the rest of its baggage. Poke around, ask yourself, and see which it is.
He left home to seek his fortune.
He leaves _ behind and is a bachelor.
I am … and I’m leaving (it).
Leaving for overseas.
_ move away to be somebody.
Left … to be a respectable fellow.
I said I was leaving.
He is proud to move to ….
Six of Swords’ ‘moving away from’ can be moving away from being something-or-another rather than moving away from a location. ‘Avoid’ is a synonym for the phrase, as you can see from these sentences about NOT being the characteristics of Page of Wands (saying and talking and outspoken; honest; being a type of person; good-looking):
avoid saying things.
Avoid being honest or forthright.
Just avoid talking about _.
I am not as outspoken.
I am not the person I used to be.
I am not as honest as I was.
I am not the good-looking boy.
Page of Wands means talk, as we know by now. Applying the meanings of Six of Swords about leaving hopes behind and having to move away – and one of those meanings is the ‘recovery’ and ‘Rehab’ set – we get these last two sentences:
Talking about … that could have been.
Recovering and being myself. x..
Transitions in identity occur as we live and move. We aren’t the same person we were some time back, and we aren’t the same person we were from one city or country to another … heck, we aren’t the same person with different people we know, and some of us have more flex to our identity than others. That’s our topic today: the changes, the phases, the spectrums to our selves. I once knew a woman who referred to her ex’s as her past lives!

Six of Cups ……….. Six of Cups shows us a boy child giving a girl child flowers, and the artwork is very kitsch, very sentimental and even cloying. This is about childhood, romance, nostalgia for the past, friends and lovers from the past, or old friends or old lovers. Sweet memories or sweet tender loving moments of the now. Six of Cups is trust. The gift you see happening in this card sometimes is bequeathed by the departed – often the parent, since the Six of Cups kids are considered siblings. Six of Cups means innocence, including legal ‘not guilty’ innocence. Six of Cups is home – the cozy cottage, the comfortable home life with someone you can trust. Oh, the good old days. Six of Swords makes it ‘getting over my childhood,’ though! Six of Cups is all of this and more. Six of Cups often means ‘used to’ and Six of Swords also involves ‘used to be.’
.
Page of Wands …………. Page of Wands is Prince Charming and Every Mother’s Son. In the days before political correctness, Page of Wands was ‘the fair haired boy,’ which had nothing to do with color of hair or age. It simply meant the good image a person had. Prince of Wands is the flirt, the cute or handsome fellow, the spokesperson and the consummate salesman because (like Knight of Cups) we all like the dude.
.
Six of Swords ………….Six of Swords says ‘There will be better days.’ That is an upbeat outlook. The mood of this card … and it is a moody one … is blue, though. Water under the bridge. It can be the aftermath of someone’s death … getting on with life. It can be leaving the scene of a disaster or loss. The mother and son here are leaving like refugees at dawn or dusk, paddled away in a crude open craft by a friend, you and your kid without a suitcase to you name. Six of Swords is moving forward, recovering. It is sometimes Rehab. Sometimes it is just one of the ‘relocating’ cards, along with Knight of Wands.

GUIDANCE Romances of the past that were unfinished symphonies, and we compare them to Mama’s Boy leaving home. We talk about a May-December romance between an older woman and a young man. There’s no angst in our nostalgia as we plant ourselves where we were back then for a while.

Six of Cups – Queen of Swords – Page of Wands

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
.
………………….…………………… We have stories, elements of which are an older woman, Queen of Swords; a young good-looking good guy (He, Page of Wands is every mother’s son and ever girl’s prince.); and a card that can supply being a child, or romance, or the past, nostalgic memories, or even a house to live in, Six of Cups. As I said, we have stories.
………………………….. Six of Cups shows a sweet scene of young love: A little boy gives his special friend flowers in front of the home. The scene is kitschy, and the children are obviously well-cared for.
………………………….. Queen of Swords is the mean mama, bitch, complaining nag, assertive woman, woman who misses her deceased child or someone else, or strong woman. Today she is especially the mama or the older woman, in the company of the other two Rider Waite cards.
………………………….. Page of Wands is the young good-looking well-spoken good guy we all like. He is a talker too. A slogan for this Rider Waite Tarot card is ‘every mother’s favorite son and every woman’s Prince Charming.’ Today, he lives up to that fully, in the company of Queen of Swords, the mother, and Six of Cups, young love.
………..………….. Six of Cups and Queen of Swords Six of Cups and Queen of Swords has several applications. One is an old woman’s memories of her love life, her love or loves of the past. Since Six of Cups can simply refer to the past, the phrase could simply be ‘her memories of the past.’ The other is being the best friend or lover of the old or older woman – or of the assertive or bitchy or strong woman. Teacher’s Pet. These two cards in Tarot Verbatim™ also are an old house and an old woman – so, the old woman’s house. Yet another application contrasts the mellow Six of Cups with the acerbic or edgy Queen of Swords, so ‘she has mellowed out.’ x..
………..…………... Six of Cups and Page of Wands Six of Cups and Page of Wands is a sweet romance with a great guy; is his friendship with someone, or theirs with him; describes a fine young man being very sweet to someone (which does not have to be romance, but easily could). He looks young for his age too, because Page of Wands refers to appearance, and Six of Cups is kids and childhood. Six of Cups is ‘back when’ and Page of Wands is the flirt too, so ‘back when I was a party boy.’ He flirts with the young ones too: See that? Along the same line, ‘back when he was young.’ Six of Cups is to give (or receive) a gift, especially a sentimental one, so ‘give gifts to a younger man.’ Page of Wands is a talker, so you have a smooth-talking romantic man. Page of Wands is proud, and Six of Cups is best friends, so ‘proud to be best friends.’ Page of Wands is Self, and Six of Cups is lovable or mellow, so ‘my mellow self’ or ‘my lovable side.’ x..
……………………… Queen of Swords and Page of Wands Queen of Swords and Page of Wands is where we get the May-December relationship, which is encouraged in today’s spread by Six of Cups being a love relationship as well as youth. She’s so mean and he’s so nice! Queen of Swords holds someone up to her own (high) standards, so ‘She expects him to be a good guy.’ Page of Wands can be a flirt, and Queen of Swords is deprived of what is due her, so she is shortchanged; he flirts – and she doesn’t get enough romance from the flirtatious boy.
Then we go into the older woman as Mama, and he is a mama’s boy, he is her favorite son. She is grieved (Queen of Swords as dissatisfied, disgruntled, deprived of her due) in the absence of her fine boy. Page of Wands is proud, so he is proud to be his mother’s son. Queen of Swords sacrifices, so she sacrificed so her son could be such a fine specimen of manhood. Queen of Swords mourns a deceased child, and Page of Wands identifies that child as a boy. x..
Stories about life, chapters about a mother or older woman and her relationships with a grown son or a younger lover. Going down memory lane, several different chapters. Chapters about first love, about being proud to know the old lady, about mellowing when you are older. Chapters about the love of a handsome boy, a deceased child, about being attracted to women who are bitches. Chapters about not getting the romantic attention she feels she deserves from her fellow who is a flirt. Chapters about Mama’s Boy, and how he is proud to be his mother’s son.

Six of Cups.…….. Six of Cups is the good old days. Six of Cups is the feeling of being in love. Six of Cups is giving someone you love a gift, and receiving one too. A cozy home and a cozy home life. The past, the memories of the past, being mellow and warm. Old-fashioned values. All this is beautifully expressed, and beautifully illustrated by that little boy giving that little girl flowers in front of home.
.
Queen of Swords …………. Queen of Swords is a stern disciplined woman, or a parasitic nagging bitch. She is you when you are not getting what you have earned and are expecting: dissatisfied. She expects things of people; she has standards. The picture of the baby on her throne is about her dead baby. Her extended hand as if to say “Now would be GOOD” indicates her unfulfilled expectation. Her grip on that swords expresses her anger.
.
Page of Wands…………. Page of Wands is that great guy we all like, who used to be referred to as ‘the fair-haired boy’ until political correctness quashed that quaint phrase. It actually meant something like ‘teacher’s pet.’ Page of Wands is good-looking, partly because a likable person is seen that way. Speaking well, talking up, being proud, having a personality or identity of his own: These are Page of Wands traits. It translates ‘that type of person’ easily.

Guidance An accommodating person is someone we all like; likewise, people like us when we are projecting our most attractive best self. We examine the interplay between being accommodating and being controlling – how a good guy tends to attract assertive women, and vice versa, for example; how children game their caretakers. This interplay about controlling vs accommodating, we say, operates in a similar way to how our childhood forms our persona and our image. We even point out that controlling women sometimes affect childlike speech.

……………………….. Strength In the middle we have Strength, the strong woman, the controlling woman, and overcoming someone or something who interferes. It is also disciplining, especially when you put it next to children. She can handle anything. Strength is also about overcoming in your personal life, including things like bad habits and addictions or cravings.
………..…..…………. Six of Cups To her left is Six of Cups – children, childhood, youth, romance, good friends, old-fashioned, the good old days, and an old or cozy home.
…………….…………Page of Wands To her (Strength’s) right is Page of Wands. Page of Wands is being your best self, a young good-looking well-spoken and well-dressed man. Page of Wands also means to talk, to say, to speak up, etc. Page of Wands is a person’s image – it’s ‘who you are.’
So today we look at how being sweet, being old-fashioned, being a good person, predisposes you to falling under someone’s influence, just like your childhood influences you unfairly. We also talk about how being the person who does the favors makes you everybody’s friend.
