Sun – The tyke is having the time of his life astraddle a pony bareback, who is annoyed. It’s a hot day and baby escaped nude from the restrictions of the house. One hand carries an unwieldy huge banner; the other is outstretched balancing that and expressing tyke’s joi de vivre. (joy of life). Make that ‘short-lived joi de vivre.’

Although Sun can translate words about the boy’s reckless and feckless antics here, never have I seen a word out of Tarot about consequences. Consequences are irrelevant re Sun, Tarot thinks.

Sun’s most frequent contributions to your sentences are: to leave or escape or get out of some restriction or restricting place; kid, kids, childhood, youth, young; fun, enjoy, happy, and words like ‘Yay!’ and ‘Whee!’; uninhibited, impulsive, (King of Wands’ words too) and spontaneous.

Today we say ‘vacation,’ ‘sunshine,’ and ‘things that held you back.’ Expect to see these every once in a while.
Six of Swords – Six of Swords shows up more than its proportionate share. That’s because it has so many basic applications. Applications that require you to make distinctions and collect nuances. You just have to grit your teeth and get used to Six of Swords meaning both coming and leaving, as well as meaning the trip itself. And grit your teeth some more and get used to Six of Swords meaning all three about time too: from now on (future); as it goes on (present); not anymore (past). Strangely enough, you get used to this and ‘just know’ which applies, most of the time.

Another basic and common set of meanings for this Six of Swords card is about the situation improving; about recovering or getting over something.

The illustration, of course, explains all these distinctions. A mother and child are escaping from a terrible situation and/or place ‘with the clothes on their backs.’ It’s dusk or dawn, and a frail-looking open boat is their vehicle of escape. A friend (tradition says) is helping them out, and the water is shallow because that’s not a paddle; it’s a pole.
Eight of Wands – It’s like all the meanings of the deck were claimed by other cards, and the leftovers were dumped on Eight of Wands who drew the short straw or came late to the meeting or something. First of all, for no good reason except that’s the way it works, Eight of Wands is the main card for communication, both written and spoken (and any other). Here’s your texting card: the lines.

Next, Eight of Wands means ‘increasingly’ (more, more and more) as well as ‘continually’ or ‘over and over.’ It often (like Eight of Pentacles) translates ‘keep’ and ‘keeping’ in the senses of ‘keep it up’ and ‘keeping at it.’ And that includes ‘again,’ because Eight of Wands belongs to that large Tarot clan too.

Next, Eight of Wands very often says words like these: all, a lot, all of them, all your, all the things, things, all of us, it all, all at once.

Two of Wands The financier upon his finished roof surveys his real estate holdings below with the globe in his hands … he owns his world you know. He is planning what to do to make more money with his holdings. So, financial security, plan, global, the future, real estate, outlook, oversight.
Eight of Wands just shows the boards in the air one above the other looking like lines on a paper, which makes the communication meanings. It means quickly, in quick succession, one after the other, and so on.

Four Card Spreads, Our Daily Spread
Advice is about getting away from, leaving, avoiding, putting it behind … all sorts and flavors of pulling out and getting on down the road, even changing one’s mind about it. Getting out fast, getting out slow. Any kind of escape will do. Contrasts talking and not talking about it, too. It’s about quitting, finally, and not doing it again. Running away from mouthy folks, even, is mentioned here in our spread.

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

Knight of Swords is getting out in a hurry, precipitously. He is also going back and forth, and is also pursuing. So he is not an ‘anchor’ card: You look to others for establishing the theme. Six of Swords is finally slipping away like a refugee, and includes the idea times will be better. To the left is The Great Negator, Death, who means no, never, not, don’t, stop and so on. To the right is Eight of Wands who means: many, talk, quickly, more and more. Knight of Swords and Eight of Wands both mean ‘fast.’ MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS Death is, as I said above, The Great Negator, the no-never-not entity. It seldom means, in Tarot Verbatim ™ the end of one thing and the beginning of another, which it should with the dead king lying there, and the bishop taking the crown to make another king. Knight of Swords goes in one direction and then another, switches back and forth. He pursues. He flees. He speeds. He is not a lead card, he can’t make up his mind. The illustration in Rider Waite shows a fellow with sword thrust over the speeding horse’s head, horse with both front feet stretched out, flying. (Not the way horses run.) Eight of Wands shows boards flying in the air meaning repetitive, quickly, talk, messages, more and more or increasingly. Six of Swords means better times are ahead because they couldn’t get any worse. A woman and child are escaping like refugees with the help of a friend who has a shallow boat that he is poling forward like a gondola. It means to put the past behind, to leave slowly.
