Eight of Wands – This is one of the cards many of whose meanings don’t fit the illustration. You just have to remember it is the main card for communications of any kind, even including documents and books, including anything at all – even including ‘news.’ So Eight of Pentacles is the leading speak/tell/say Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim™. Today, for example, it says these things: talk, people talk, talk to someone, (government)-speak, they say, the words to, talks to you like. And these phrases are in addition to the speak/tell/say phrases that Star supplies.

Eight of Wands is very much about plurals, about: a lot, all these, many. And it is also about pluralities of people: everybody, everyone, we all, all of us.

You can see the wands are flying through the air, which brings up any sort of fast, quick, movement or speed. It also brings up repeated or regular instances: make regular; keeps; he keeps; frequently; one after another; same thing over and over; more and more.

Remember that in English, the word ‘keep’ or ‘keeps’ can denote repeated instances, often using phrases like ‘keep up’ or ‘keeps doing.’ But it can also be expressed by ‘keep’ plus putting ‘-ing’ onto the meaning of another card. So “A VIP keeps flirting” uses Eight of Wands for ‘keeps’ but also uses Eight of Wands to toss the ‘-ing’ over to Star for ‘flirting’ instead of ‘flirt.’ I hope I make this clear!
Emperor – This old man has seen it all and done it all, and is so well-established he has no challengers or challenges left: It’s the end of the line for action for him. Emperor is the power figure, the ultimate boss (president, CEO or CFO or whatever, dictator, daddy, grandpa, God the Father … whatever is at the pinnacle of power in any given context. Here are today’s words for that: our leader; he’s the boss; a VIP; he is the authority; he is a veteran; someone who’s experienced; lord and master, I’m important; he has control (of himself, here).

Of course the old man attracts old-man words like these: the old man; daddy; a grown-up; elderly; mature older men; old guy; your father; the elderly man.

Okay, today is the day we delve into the pesky parts of Eight of Wands. I have been meaning to do this with you. If you aren’t ready for pesky, you can skip this part (or you can bookmark it).

The pluralizing influence of Eight of Wands can haunt its sentence, can extend randomly to other cards in the sentence than those it directly affects. You get a feel for this.
.
First of all, we are dealing in a three-card spread with two cards that have quite a few words, quite a few translates, in common. Speaking, of course, of the fact that both Star and Eight of Wands solidly belong to the large speak/tell/say Tarot clan. Trade-offs happen here. Star can mean love, feeling good, joy, good health, and a song or a performer. Therefore, Eight of Wands, the other card in that sentence, gets to use its speak/tell/say category of meanings.

Likewise, Eight of Wands can mean ‘ a lot of,’ including a lot of people ( everyone, everybody, all of them); it can mean fast or quickly; it can mean repeated instances like ‘ over and over; and it can mean ‘ more.’ When it is doing that, then Star gets to use its speak/tell/say dictionary. That’s how it’s done, and today’s cards are an excellent demonstration of this trade-off process.

Like I said, Eight of Wands can mean ‘ a lot of’ or it can make plurals out of neighboring cards. Eight of Wands can turn Emperor into ‘ old men’ instead of ‘ old man’ as it does in the sentence “ All the old men love her.” Eight of Wands owns ‘ all the’ outright, and it pluralizes Emperor into being old men.

“He is the authority on words to songs” is another simpler example. Here, Emperor is the authority, and Star is the song. Eight of Wands is all about language, so it translates ‘ words.’ But it also makes that song plural.

Another such example: “ A lot of propaganda from federal agencies.” Eight of Wands owns outright ‘ a lot of.’ ‘ Propaganda’ belongs solidly to Star. Emperor is a federal agency, or is a federal government. The plural that makes ‘ federal agencies’ is influenced by Eight of Wands from afar – haunting its sentences as it is prone to do. You will get used to this and do it as second nature, reflexively.

The second tricky part to interpreting Eight of Wands’ words is the gerund. The gerund is the ‘-ing’ form of verbs. Star and Four of Pentacles Star, to express in words; Four of Pentacles cannot express in words. Star is strong feeling; Four of Pentacles is deep feeling.
Judgment and Four of Pentacles Four of Pentacles won’t admit; Judgment announces publicly. Judgment confesses; Four of Pentacles isn’t about to admit it.
Eight of Wands and Four of Pentacles Eight of Wands is increasing, or more; Four of Pentacles is less.

Judgment Judgment is a busy card here today. Its horn is taken literally next to Star, the singer or performer. Judgment means ‘again’ and it means to say something or be public about something. It is also the return and the revival.

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

Star Lovers – Knight of Pentacles – Eight of Wands LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING We have themes again! Lovers and Star are about love. Eight of Wands and Star are about talk, communication, messages and publicity. The remaining Rider Waite citizen means to focus on one thing, priority, to be determined, and an intense, physical fellow who may be short and dark. So love is our topic, and talk or communication. Star means to feel good and good health. Lovers also means protection and connecting. Eight of Wands is a list and can mean ‘everyone,’ which it does here with these Rider Waite friends of its. Lovers More complex than it looks is this Rider Waite Tarot citizen in its Tarot Verbatim ™ capacity. The couple who are the lovers are Adam and Eve, the trees of the story of Eden are behind them, the funky-looking angel is there to protect as well as keep them in their place; and of course a volcano is thrown in which makes an ash cloud the angel arises from. Sometimes the noonday sun is meaningful in the Tarot message, not often. |

Here is a list of things you must forget in order to be happy

A long talk has totally cleared the air.

Young and feeling so good you ‘got it licked.’
So young to have so many achievements to celebrate.
Declare you are a free spirit in every possible way.
Here is a list of things you must forget in order to be happy.
Forget all the things they tell you you have to do.
Forgot all the lines I had to say.
Ignore all the verbal threats.
You have to ignore the ones that talk fast.
Celebrate all the wins lightheartedly.
A lot of infinitely forgettable language/talk.
You gotta forget all those things I said …
All this rah-rah talk about freedom and victory.
They all have to talk about you when you’re not present.
Freedom of speech makes you talk.
Well, this is a breath of fresh air after the past few days! ‘Mercury is Retrograde’ Stef keeps saying as if that means doomsday is here already growing roots. We start with two Rider Waite Tarot cards that mean talk, Star (which also means feeling good and happiness and good health) and Eight of Wands (which also means one after the other, quickly, a list, ‘all those/these’). The Fool means to be free, lighthearted, to be not present, to ignore, forget, or be oblivious, which echoes some of Star’s material. And the Ace of Swords, in such good company, simply means winning, victory, totally, imperative, and ‘at all.’
Advice is ignore it all and just feel good … heck with all that stuff, the sun is out. I second that motion.
Meanings and Illustrations:
Star: Happy, healthy, talking, celebrating, declare, to say or talk, they tell you … This is the naked beauty pouring some liquid into the pond, presumably as part of a ritual of ablution (vocabulary alert: ‘bathing.’)
Eight of Wands: Talk. List. One after another, more and more, so many, all the ___, talk or say, etc.
Illustration shows one after the other sticks flying in the air like arrows shot all at the same time.
Ace of Swords: Achievement, victory, must or have to, makes you/forces, totally one way or the other as in ‘infinitely.’ Illustration is the hand gripping the sword that has the crown of victory. You win!
Fool: Lighthearted, optimistic, forget it, not being present, freedom, ignore. Here’s that fellow taking a mid-day stroll, happy as a clam with his happy dog who seems will follow him off the cliff.

The Hanged Man and the Queen of Cups both mean aware and know. The Hanged Man is psychic awareness, intense awareness, mental alertness. The Queen of Cups know – knows her man, especially. The Eight of Pentacles refers to job, activity – especially repeated activity – doing, routine. And the Page of Swords is exciting, dangerous, adventure, defensive, jealous … all worked up about something or nothing. It is interesting to have a male card and a female card that each mean mental activity and understanding another person receptively – especially when the next Rider Waite Tarot card means consistently, and the closing one means it’s exciting.
Advice is to be aware, to read other people, to be alert on your job, to sense what other people are thinking and feeling, to tune in to others’ thoughts, to be receptive, even to look for hazards.
Meanings and Illustrations:
Hanged Man: The thought strikes you, eureka style, thrown up from the floor of your subconscious into light of day. That is what the illustration on the Rider Waite Hanged Man shows. ESP. Psychism. Intensely aware. To realize.
Queen of Cups: She is receptive too. She is aware, she is thinking and knowing. These two together and in psychic rapport. She is the dreamy one, petting that grotesque antique she holds up.
Eight of Pentacles: This is the job, the worker, the routine activities of the mundane side of our lives. Here we see the carpenter making one item after the other and hanging them up on his wall.
Page of Swords: He is not doing his usual duty here. Today he is the excitement mostly, although he is jealous, defensive and afraid. Illustration shows a very nervous fellow, weapon at the ready when the nearest mammal is miles from him, and he has an all-clear view of it.
