Today we demonstrate how you (yes, you) can read Tarot (at least Rider Waite Tarot in Tarot Verbatim) as a dialog; you and Tarot in a conversation. Three examples (three questions) from one person of Email Reading are a study in going ahead and (carefully) answering when the material seems contradictory. They are also an example of why my instructions to Email buyers are that it’s better to say that someone in a love story is married (especially, not to the love interest). In the questions of this reading, I do not know that, so I read in the alternative – meaning, I say it means this, or that, or that. It turns out that it all does make sense to Querant, who explains that it’s all true ….
Then – third question – she asks what conflicted Love Interest is going to do: action in the real world. And this is a demonstration of how … just because someone is in a dither about something … doesn’t rule out their getting on with it decisively.

Six of Pentacles Today’s one-sentence readings actually are all about what Six of Pentacles is about here: a fair exchange among people. The exchanges are of both money and attention. ….. …….…… ….. Ace of Wands and Nine of Cups say ‘what you want the most’ or ‘having what you want most.’ High Priestess is not acting, staying in one place, knowing and spirituality. This is the meat of the message these three cards have to tell us.
You can’t get farther apart than High Priestess, the passive female, and Ace of Wands, brute force and male gender. We are deliberately ignoring the fact these three Rider Waite Tarot cards also say ‘wants to hit the woman’ or ‘the woman wants to be hit.’ No, we aren’t going there. But they could also say ‘want to clobber the other woman,’ because High Priestess shows up to represent the other woman.
In case you are wondering, as I did, why High Priestess, of all people, would be the other woman, I think it’s the combination of her staying alone in one place meaning and her secrecy meaning. In Tarot Verbatim™ the meanings are NOT assigned to the cards; the meanings establish themselves in real-life practice, and are duly noted.
Back to reality. High Priestess and Ace of Wands say ‘Knowledge is power’ because High Priestess knows all, and Ace of Wands translates ‘power,’ although brute force is more its cup of tea.
Ace of Wands and Nine of Cups say ‘all (you) want’ or ‘having it all.’ With High Priestess as the other contributor, it’s the quiet life you already have, and ‘you have it all right here.’ Of course, High Priestess and Nine of Cups could say ‘know it all,’ too, but so far they haven’t. They could say ‘all you want to know’ as well, which is more likely.

High Priestess The illustration shows a seated woman with the equal-armed cross on her chest and symbols of the Kabbalah behind and around her. Meanings of High Priestess begin with her position as the ‘2’ in the first four cards. There’s an esoteric sequence of meanings for one-through-four. Two is being receptive: knowing, rather than acting. So High Priestess’ main job is knowing, and she specifically is not acting.
This is a very occult card: She wears the crown Egyptian kings wore; she is surrounded by Kabbalah symbols; she has the moon at her feet; she has that book in her lap; and the ‘B’ and ‘J’ pillars are the ‘mercy’ and ‘severity’ poles of Kabbalah, which also appear in the bible accompanying the Ark of the Covenant. This is the card that can mean Tarot. This is the card for occult knowledge and spiritual expertise or spiritual life.
In real life, High Priestess is the lady (passive), stays in one place, is alone, is quiet, is secretive or knows the secret(s), is a woman alone, is sedentary or sitting, knows, is an expert, refers to spirituality and even the spiritual plane, is waiting, is patient, is not going to act or respond.

Ace of Wands You see a hand with a club in it, and the club is sprouting. Ace of Wands is unabashedly male: The club is drawn to resemble a penis. This card means ‘sex’ more than any other, and it is about that male aspect of the sexual drive, and about fertilizing. Ace of Wands is macho aggression – is that herd-bull imperative to be Number One. It impels; it compels; it orders. It is assertive and it is aggressive. Nine of Cups is when you are happy with things just as they are. Things are going my way. Think Thanksgiving dinner after the dinner.
In every (self-respecting) deck, Nine of Cups means ‘Your wish is granted.’ When it appears as the first Self card in a Celtic Cross spread, it alerts the reader to the fact that whatever the spread is saying serves the purpose of the Querant. The Querant is the one who is asking the question.
Nine of Cups – yes – can be unbridled greed. It can also be being content with what you have, and being grateful. An attitude of gratitude is one of its grooves.

It is the moment you break out the champagne to celebrate a victory, a profit, or an achievement. They have pooled their money (one of its meanings) and their efforts, and are now sharing the profits, still fast friends.

Two of Pentacles………. You see a juggler keeping those plates moving, wearing a goofy costume, and ships tossed up and down behind him. Two of Pentacles has many classes of meaning. First, it covers motion and continuing, and it tends to pick up slang terms for these (‘make it through,’ for example). Then it covers time cycles (timing of the plates) – again in all sorts of phrases. Then it means repeating action, words like ‘recur.’ Then it means synonyms for ‘silly,’ like ‘goofball.’ The ships create another class of meaning: upheaval type topics.

Hierophant ………. And here comes our straight man – conformity itself. Hierophant often translates ‘should.’ Hierophant’s illustration is the pope doing his routine in the church. Its most common application is the routine usual mundane ordinary same-old things. It’s the routine way, the protocol, the prescribed form. It means ‘average’ and ‘middle’ as in ‘middle class.’ It is also ‘face,’ the official story we are supposed to believe whether it makes sense or not. ‘Official’ extends to paper documents like titles, and to anything accepted and approved, or okay – anything mainstream. Then, Hierophant refers to physical, the physical world, and things being as they should – being in normal shape. It also means decent, harmless, good, respectable. That extends to being clean, or cleaned up (as in ‘cleaned up my act’).

This Weekend’s Question is: A Satisfactory Love Life. Advice about a satisfactory love life brings up three cards out of four that each mean ‘thinking and feeling’ and in their midst is ‘sharing.’ Sharing thoughts and feelings means a satisfactory love life, we say here. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. In their midst, sharing – sharing the good feeling, the magic moment. Well yes, that is what satisfying love feels like! The implication is: This is what to look for – the Hermit who searches and who means truth and sincerity. Hermit and Hanged Man both are about seeing, understanding. Hermit is searching, is on the path (of service) and also means factual truth. Hanged Man is the eureka realization that disorients us from our standard consciousness. It’s ‘catching on.’ It’s ‘getting it.’ It’s ‘seeing through.’ It’s intense experience as well as intense realization. It’s ‘So that’s it.’ It is the striking thought. Hermit and Seven of Cups are the search, the figuring it out. Hermit is following the trail of the facts toward an understanding of the truth. (That is why he also stands for an investigation.) Seven of Cups is the ‘Do you suppose?’ theory stage of the search-and-realization process. Three of Cups and Seven of Cups both involve harvest, but we aren’t using those meanings today. The Rider Waite Tarot card this is all about is being at one, sharing experience, joy and material goods. And that is a pretty good definition of a satisfactory love life, isn’t it? Meanings and Illustrations: Individual Rider Waite Tarot Cards Hermit is searching, is on the path (of service) and also means factual truth. He stands for sincerity and honesty and being a friend, helping out. His illustration is the monk out looking for people on the road to help who might be stranded or lost. Three of Cups’ key word is sharing. All for one and one for all, the Three Musketeers, pooling resources and sharing the profits of the shared work. Dating and girlfriends too. The illustration shows three girls who are rejoicing about their harvest on their farm. Seven of Pentacles wonders and figures and is all about theory and whether … ‘What are the chances?’ It seems, doesn’t it? Maybe. Hmmm. His illustration is the fella who planted cucumbers, which require a male and female plant in order to bear fruit. He wonders whether he will have his harvest. Hierophant is the eureka realization that disorients us from our standard consciousness. It’s ‘catching on.’ It’s ‘getting it.’ It’s ‘seeing through.’ It’s intense experience as well as intense realization. It’s ‘So that’s it.’ It is the striking thought.
