GUIDANCE      Once upon a time an experienced race car driver and pilot told me that the key to navigating on black ice was to keep going fast, never reduce speed or hit the brakes no matter what. (This same person told me that, if you wanted to win unwinnable lawsuits, you had to be totally snarly all the time to everyone so no one took exception to your impossible attitude in jury trials before oppositional judges.) I sure did not have the nerve to contemplate driving that way! We are looking at someone who lives somewhat like that, here. What if you don’t even acknowledge opposition, we ask? We are looking at a person who deflects interference by sheer nerve, who has the kind of expertise that demands respect from all comers … and we look at the spiritual underpinnings of such a stance, because spiritual victory and spiritually overcoming is the underlying theme today.

………………….……………………     World and Strength together are amazing, and Seven of Pentacles (wonderment) is a good reaction to them. Both World and Strength are about victory over the physical world through spiritual source. Seven of Pentacles is wondering how to do that. World is ‘in a world of her own.’ She is about being invulnerable through being superior to the potential opposition – opposition on all the planes. She is invisible to the monsters because she is made of better stuff than they. Moral superiority, in a sense, but there is more to it than that! Strength is overcoming through spiritual means too, but she is more at the hands-on level. She nips opposition in the bud because she is so able to handle it. It’s the same process you see when muggers disregard a potential victim … they just have a feeling. World is like that too but so much so that she isn’t hands-on anymore. Our message is that you don’t have to fight your battles with pesky people on the level of the pests; you can rise above all that, and cut them short.

…………….………….. World is about reaching the level of expertise … in anything … at which you are unchallenged. You could be someone experienced in ghetto life whom the muggers want nothing to do with. You could be an expert in molecular biology whom no one wishes to come up against at the academic level. You could be the criminal lawyer judges fear. Whatever. World is about being in a world of your own so that you are unassailable. The illustration shows the concept of ‘Master of Both Worlds,’ an esoteric idea that a person very skilled in both ‘white magic’ and ‘black magic’ will win, and so is disregarded as an opponent by both camps.

World is one of those minding-my-own-business cards like Nine of Pentacles. World’s meanings overlap with Strength’s because they are both about spiritual insulation from physical interference.

…………….…………..   Seven of Pentacles just wonders and ponders, and isn’t so sure. In the illustration, a fellow who has planted a gendered crop (cucumbers in this case) wonders whether he (or nearby planters) have both genders represented so that the plants will bear fruit. This is a very real concern for gardeners. Seven of Pentacles is a ‘duh’ card. He can mean ‘Duh, I don’t know’ about any number of things. He stands for when you have done the work, done your part, and you just don’t know whether the result will be as expected. This is one of the simplest surefire cards to look at first in your spread. Watch him turn your sentences into questions: He is a walking question mark!

……………..……………    Strength disarms opposition; Strength deftly prevents predators’ interference by knowing how to handle situations ahead of time. You’ve heard that phrase ‘one step ahead of you’? – and that phrase ‘You can see them coming’? That’s Strength. She has shut the lion’s mouth with her bare hand, and is petting him with the other hand, making him ‘like it whether he likes it or not,’ as they say. So this card can translate ‘to tame.’ She may be applying techniques mothers use to civilize children on grownup ones, or she may have that je ne sais qua that mysteriously repels disruptors of the peace. She exerts spiritual force; there is no fight. (I once heard a head of a mob family say to a younger member, about an old lady, ‘Listen, some of those little people you don’t mess with.’

Overcoming one’s own vices and weaknesses is also a category of Strength’s meanings. You might say ‘kicking the ass of the bully within’ because that is what it feels like. Attitude is all. Attitude can repel sickness; research has demonstrated that. Drunks sometimes reach a ‘this is my last one’ point and stick to it. The attitude a movie made famous of ‘I’m mad as hell and won’t put up with it anymore’ (which Seven of Wands epitomizes) is the way some people have overcome something in themselves up with which they would not put anymore.

*Other categories of meanings Strength has* involve the touch, like she touches him in all the right places, wraps him around her little finger, and so on. She can even be a masseuse.

Since Seven of Pentacles makes questions, wonder and ponders, you just take ‘most all of World’s meanings and turn them into a question. So you get things like: wonder how to prevent; doubting my ability to ignore them; If I ignore them, will they; What if I just didn’t pay attention?; How can she do that without even seeming to notice?; How can she effectively repel interference; no problem with self-doubt; it seems spiritual expertise; I am considering keeping that person away from me; Maybe that shapely woman; When you allow no doubts at all; When you allow no doubts at all about being invulnerable; he wonders about women or speculates about dames; He thinks she’s invulnerable; He wonders about this woman who pays him no attention; he wonders how women keep him at bay; women seem to have no problems; he thinks, because she has nothing to handle; Will she ignore me?; She seems like she is in a world of her own. x..

Their meanings overlap along the lines of ‘so strong no one bothers me’ and ‘overcome by being invulnerable.’ No one bothers World, and Strength is so strong. They also contrast: to ignore, or to put down. Keeping a person away from you (World) by making him or her harmless (Strength). She is both kick-ass (Strength) and invulnerable (World).

The reason our spread today comes on so strong is these two cards. There’s no way around it. x..

We are doubting (Seven of Pentacles) our ability to shut them up (Strength). What if I were capable of handling that? Basically, just like we said about World, you take ‘most all the meanings of Strength and turn them into questions of one sort or another. That’s what Seven of Pentacles does: He is a Duh card. He is intrigued (Seven of Pentacles) about women who … and fill in any of the attributes of Strength … can handle anything; kick-ass; intimidates predators; turn him every way but loose; puts him down. x..

Here’s a picture of you able to handle anything and to not put up with anything … and doubting yourself doing that at the same time. Today’s assertion is that this is you: You can do this by deciding to get to that place. Why not? The technique we picture here happens on a small scale or a large scale. Sometimes a remark will clear the air, disarm opposition, or prevent a bad intention. Look ahead, and loosen your tongue up for the remark ahead of time. Look for everyday ways to develop the technique of not being on the radar of pests.

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

World   ……..   World shows a woman encircled by a wreath, surrounded by similar critters to what you see in Wheel of Fortune, who are looking away from her as if she were not there. She is nude, dancing with two wands. You immediately hear ‘in a world of her own’ and ‘dancing to a different drummer’ when you look at this Rider Waite Tarot card.

This card comes from magic. She is in the circle; she has wands; the beings are otherworldly. World’s deeper meaning, from the illustration, is that an adept is ‘master of both worlds,’ which I understand to be the top level in esoteric skill. It means that person is expert at both ‘white magic’ and ‘black magic.’ Such a person repels trouble because he or she is equipped to handle it.

Some common interpretations for World are: can’t get through to her, not interested, isn’t available, unaffected, will not put up with, nothing gets to her or don’t let it get to you, has no faults, defenses are up or shield is up, unflappable or unperturbed or doesn’t ruffle her feathers, immune system, barrier, immovable object, not on the radar or invisible, insider, prevents trouble, repel, no one’s going to interfere, not involved or don’t get involved, tune out the environment or not a product of the environment, in a world of her own, gorgeous or shapely woman, dancer, marginalized or ostracized. World has many odd applications: Watch for them. Things like filters. Even being one of those dancers in a cage. Watch.

In case you noticed, and are wondering about, the fact that World means both ‘insider’ and ‘ostracized’ occurs because of the circle. Action goes both ways in Tarot cards, so the subject person either excluded others, or others excluded the person.

Seven of Pentacles   ………….    Seven of Pentacles is one of the simple cards you can use as an anchor in your first glance at your spread. He has done all the work, and now he can only wait and wonder whether his plants will bear. It all depends on the (unknown) gender of the plants: Are there both male and female plants in the range that bees will pollinate? Time will tell, and you will wonder until then. Seven of Pentacles is one of the ‘Duh’ cards in Tarot Verbatim™. ‘I don’t know’ is Seven of Pentacles’ main offering.

Strength    …………    Strength shows a calm woman in a white robe with fresh flowers as a belt, who has the ‘eternity’ math sign as a halo, and her bare hands are gently shutting a lion’s mouth as if she were petting him. This pictures the concept that spiritual stature and expertise prevents predators from carrying out interference, distraction, or attack. It depicts the fact that when you have worked something through in your head and reached the perfect squelch or solution to it, it will not happen on the physical plane because (1) you can handle it and/or (2) you have already handled it. The ability repels the enactment.

Think. There was a time that, exasperated, you said “The NEXT time that happens, I’m gonna (fill in the blank).” And it never happened again.
