Five of Pentacles – Desperate times, losing home, hitting bottom, feeling sorry (or feeling sorry for yourself). Five of Pentacles is a mother and son, crippled, on the street, passing by a church that would have a meal and a place to sleep but the boy has leprosy (the bell he wears). So Five of Pentacles is about serious sickness too. And about being crippled, disabled. Five of Pentacles is chronic; there’s no shock about being in need and not having the need met here in this Rider Waite Tarot card.

Five of Pentacles can represent Dark Night of the Soul, and similar feelings, or it can represent a desperate situation. This is one of those cards that impels you to look for a ‘rescue card’ – my word for it.

Five of Pentacles means loss, especially losing money, and being in need, being broke or bankrupt – ‘on the street.’ It is simply being poor too, and it also can represent the ghetto.

Five of Pentacles is feeling inferior or being inferior, or feeling other people are your inferiors, are ‘bums.’ It is about being sorry for something as well as just feeling sorry for yourself, or even ‘sorry I ever.’ It is about feeling bad, feeling down, and feeling or being humiliated. Clinical depression.

Five of Swords also says ‘hard times.’ Having a very hard time.
Three of Pentacles is all about dealing with other people – in all sorts of ways. It is arguably the most flexible card, the way it relates to the other cards. Show me a relationship, and I’ll show you Three of Pentacles: personal, social, commercial, teamwork, meetings, negotiations, legal proceedings, people putting heads together (including professionals consulting on the same patient or case), meeting up coincidentally on the street.
