Eight of Wands – means talk, and phrases and words like: lots of, more and more, many. It means a list or lists of things, and it even means ‘things.’ Meaning ‘a lot of things’ includes ‘everyone’ or ‘everybody,’ and phrases like ‘all of them.’

You see these items, the limbs, flying through the air one above the other like a list, making lines. This is how Eight of Wands comes to mean ‘quickly’ and its synonyms.

Eight of Wands means information; it means data; it means language. It goes as far as to mean the writer, the writing of it, and the detail.

Eight of Wands adds suffixes like ‘-er,’ ‘-iest,’ and ‘-ier’ and it also adds an ‘s’ or other plural form to its neighbors. Eight of Wands is a speak/talk/tell/say theme card. That’s one of its most frequent translates. Today, in tandem with Star, we are talking about a lot of talk, and talking about a lot of talk about a lot of things. Yeah, these two cards bounce off each other!
Star – Star’s illustration is a nude shapely lady who pours small jugs into the pond as she bathes in it and sings for all to hear. Many religions have ritual cleansing that involves water and words. Star’s meanings arise from the elements in this scene.

Star features spoken communication, feeling good, being happy, being in great health, looking good (she’s a shapely lady), and enthusiasm. Think of Star as a cheerleader: appreciation and encouragement – rah-rah. So star is confessing how you feel, praising or being praised, encouraging or being encouraged, telling all about it, telling everyone enthusiastically, singing, talking flowery or talking blarney (or both), saying ‘I love you,’ being crazy about someone (or something, actually), saying your lines as, say, a salesperson, performing, even spilling your guts or tattling. Star ends up being a love card with all this good feeling and confession of it.

As the singer and performer, Star is a creative person. And all that ‘telling’ brings in language. So Star is creative with language – a creative writer, when you add the ‘written form’ of Eight of Wands.
Queen of Pentacles – Queen of Pentacles, outdoors on her throne and surrounded by fertility – the growing things and the bunny – represents being capable of contributing to the scene you are in, and doing so. Watch for this card to simply translate ‘she can’ or ‘she is able’ or ‘a capable, talented woman.’

Think of Queen of Pentacles as Earth Mother, the caretaker. This brings her, as the other half of King of Pentacles (the charismatic mover-and-shaker dude), to being the loyal backer of her man – which extends, of course, to being the loyal backer of her family and scene. The pentacle in her lap associates her with money, which makes her the finance person – the money manager, the investor, the backer and mentor of an endeavor, the bookkeeper.

But it isn’t limited to finance: Queen of Pentacles is a manager; she runs the show, wherever the show is, whether it’s a family, a family business, a company she is part of, or an agricultural scene (see the picture).

Queen of Pentacles is capable, competent, talented, skilled. She is a resource for successful endeavors, enterprises, outcomes and other people – so, yes, she is a successful woman herself – say, the vice-president. She is the perfect mentor.

The woman who cares for him. She is all that he wants in a woman. She is maternal; she fusses over and takes care of her man. (Can be, in a possessive way.) She does for people, usually in a matter-of-fact way.

Nine of Pentacles is single or single-minded. A home-based business is one of the places Nine of Pentacles pops up. I think of her as Jackie Kennedy.

Eight of Wands………….Eight of Wands is kinda miscellaneous, and its illustration doesn’t fit some of the meanings it shows up for. The ‘more and more,’ ‘over and over’ and ‘quickly’ meanings match the limbs flying in the air, and there are several sticks, so you could say that matches the way Eight of Wands spreads plurals to its companion cards. The ‘-er,’ ‘-est,’ and ‘-ier’ that it puts on ends of its neighbor cards mean ‘more’ or ‘increasingly,’ so that kinda fits. But all the communication meanings … where do they come from? Eight of Wands is one of the ‘say, tell, speak,’ etc. cards and it is the main – really the only – card for written communication – including texting and documents. You could say the boards look like lines. Eight of Wands often translates ‘things’ or ‘keep’ in the sense of keep doing, keep being, keep whatevering the next card is.

Star……….Star is bathing, performing, singing with great enthusiasm. Star means all those things plus feeling good and being in abundant health. Star translates ‘happy’ and gratitude. This is the card for musicians (more than Judgment, that simply shows a trumpet). Star is even saying ‘I love you’ and confessing how you really feel.

Lovers and Star We have themes again! Lovers and Star are about love. Lovers is connecting or connection. Star is about communicating, talking, declaring love (“I love you.”)
Eight of Wands and Star are both about talk, communication, messages and publicity. Eight of Wands means ‘more and more’ a lot. It also ends up meaning ‘everyone’ through its ‘all of these’ and ‘all’ meanings. So Star and Eight of Wands is telling everyone about it. They are also a lot of things to talk about, and a lot of talk.

Lovers More complex than it looks is this Rider Waite Tarot citizen in its Tarot Verbatim ™ capacity. The couple who are the lovers are Adam and Eve, the trees of the story of Eden are behind them, the funky-looking angel is there to protect as well as keep them in their place; and of course a volcano is thrown in which makes an ash cloud the angel arises from. Sometimes the noonday sun is meaningful in the Tarot message, not often.
Knight of Pentacles Dedicated. Got one thing on my mind. Focused. Sometimes obsessively self-interested, ‘What’s in it for Me.’ Sometimes simply obsessed. This is the physically strong man who can represent a short dark fellow. He tends to be opinionated and employed: He does things and is very able-bodied. He definitely does not whine! He is the tough guy, and can be a punk. He is not polished but plain.
Eight of Wands One thing after another. Many, or a number of. More and more. Motion, air travel, quickly or fast. Communication in any form, verbal or written. The wands are flying in the air one above the other as if released at the same time. This illustration does not match its meanings well. Eight of Wands pluralizes other cards, and often simply means ‘say.’
Star Another complex Rider Waite Tarot denizen. Illustrated is a person singing in a bath outdoors at a pond, pouring something into the water. Feeling good and confessing good feeling is the main meaning … singing in the shower. Star means performance, confession, loving, talk or telling, feeling good, good health, optimism, and of course a gorgeous female body.

Well, this is a breath of fresh air after the past few days! ‘Mercury is Retrograde’ Stef keeps saying as if that means doomsday is here already growing roots. We start with two Rider Waite Tarot cards that mean talk, Star (which also means feeling good and happiness and good health) and Eight of Wands (which also means one after the other, quickly, a list, ‘all those/these’). The Fool means to be free, lighthearted, to be not present, to ignore, forget, or be oblivious, which echoes some of Star’s material. And the Ace of Swords, in such good company, simply means winning, victory, totally, imperative, and ‘at all.’
Advice is ignore it all and just feel good … heck with all that stuff, the sun is out. I second that motion.
Meanings and Illustrations:
Star: Happy, healthy, talking, celebrating, declare, to say or talk, they tell you … This is the naked beauty pouring some liquid into the pond, presumably as part of a ritual of ablution (vocabulary alert: ‘bathing.’)
Eight of Wands: Talk. List. One after another, more and more, so many, all the ___, talk or say, etc.
Illustration shows one after the other sticks flying in the air like arrows shot all at the same time.
Ace of Swords: Achievement, victory, must or have to, makes you/forces, totally one way or the other as in ‘infinitely.’ Illustration is the hand gripping the sword that has the crown of victory. You win!
Fool: Lighthearted, optimistic, forget it, not being present, freedom, ignore. Here’s that fellow taking a mid-day stroll, happy as a clam with his happy dog who seems will follow him off the cliff.

The Hanged Man and the Queen of Cups both mean aware and know. The Hanged Man is psychic awareness, intense awareness, mental alertness. The Queen of Cups know – knows her man, especially. The Eight of Pentacles refers to job, activity – especially repeated activity – doing, routine. And the Page of Swords is exciting, dangerous, adventure, defensive, jealous … all worked up about something or nothing. It is interesting to have a male card and a female card that each mean mental activity and understanding another person receptively – especially when the next Rider Waite Tarot card means consistently, and the closing one means it’s exciting.
Advice is to be aware, to read other people, to be alert on your job, to sense what other people are thinking and feeling, to tune in to others’ thoughts, to be receptive, even to look for hazards.
Meanings and Illustrations:
Hanged Man: The thought strikes you, eureka style, thrown up from the floor of your subconscious into light of day. That is what the illustration on the Rider Waite Hanged Man shows. ESP. Psychism. Intensely aware. To realize.
Queen of Cups: She is receptive too. She is aware, she is thinking and knowing. These two together and in psychic rapport. She is the dreamy one, petting that grotesque antique she holds up.
Eight of Pentacles: This is the job, the worker, the routine activities of the mundane side of our lives. Here we see the carpenter making one item after the other and hanging them up on his wall.
Page of Swords: He is not doing his usual duty here. Today he is the excitement mostly, although he is jealous, defensive and afraid. Illustration shows a very nervous fellow, weapon at the ready when the nearest mammal is miles from him, and he has an all-clear view of it.
