Guidance |
Advice is about the uncertainty that exists in your heart, whether it does in the situation itself or not, when you depend on another to supply you something. The benefactor may not come through, or maybe you will end up refusing the courtesy. Doubt your fears when you fear you can’t handle something … Don’t second-guess your handling of a terrible thing. If you don’t doubt yourself, you can do scary things.
Could This Be You?
Picture this: You look at the cards in your spread.

Don’t second-guess your handling of a terrible thing.
Doubt your fears when you fear you can’t handle something.
Why are you worried that you don’t have an ability?
You don’t need to wonder and worry how to do it. Just do it: You can.
Where you worry that you cannot deal with some thing, that is the place to invest your doubt.
Just because you can do it doesn’t mean to do it, if you have a bad feeling about it.
Just because you can be that way doesn’t mean you should if it makes you feel bad.
Why not give him something to worry about?
Why is he afraid to say ‘no’ to this supporter?
Had no idea that lady could do that. Now maybe (I am) concerned about this.
No need to worry about it if she is the one taking care of it.
This is an iffy investment but she doesn’t lose sleep over it.
She doesn’t doubt you or stew over giving you the money.
She’s afraid not to do it but isn’t sure she can do it.
If you don’t doubt yourself, you can do scary things.
Nothing unnerves her like wondering how to accomplish this one.
Nothing scares her but she isn’t so sure about how to take care of this one.
If you refuse to let her help, then you can just cry over it.
She paid for it and now is concerned it won’t go through.
Does she have the money to not worry about this one?
He won’t let her pay because he is worried that she might doubt him.
“If only I didn’t have to have a caretaker.” – this upsets him.
He refuses to worry about whether she will give him the money.

Nine of Swords is up nights – fear – worry – concern – a terrible thing – a bad feeling – stew over – scary things – unnerves – cry over it – be upset. See the picture of the dude or dudess up nights crying? Speaks for itself.
Queen of Pentacles takes care. The Matriarch. She is the female extension of Emperor, the Patriarch. (Empress is very busy doing other things.) She supports – usually her man and his business. She is capable. She has the ability. She has the money. She is a powerful woman wherever she is placed – even in a ghetto. In her illustration, she has the money – fertility symbols surround her – the plants are growing.
Four of Cups refuses and it does not go through. No way. Huh-hunh. I am not going to, I don’t have to, I don’t believe it. Body posture totally closed, looking down with arms crossed as yet another offer is proferred.
Seven of Pentacles is about “if.” It is one of the cards that invites the reader to put the information as a question. Seven of Pentacles second guesses and wonders and doubts and is not so sure as he leans on his shovel wondering whether he will have cucumbers in the Fall.

Now Without The Pictures |
Nine of Swords and Seven of Pentacles are the ‘Wonder and Worry Team.’ Just look at their drawings: Someone is up nights crying, and someone is leaning on his shovel wondering about how his crop will turn out.
Queen of Pentacles is the giving woman, the woman who takes care – usually of her husband and his affairs or estate. Four of Cups is ‘It doesn’t go through.’ It means to refuse. So maybe she refuses to take care. Something may not be happening with Four of Cups and Seven of Pentacles.
This spread is another example of how a negator card – in this case Four of Cups – can produce different contradictory meanings that drive you crazy. Remember, in a ‘real’ reading the question supplies the distinction. Assuming the reader is that skilled, of course.
Tarot rises to the occasion as a lass who confesses she has done a lot of work on herself for sometime asks what her purpose in life is.

You too can ask Tarot whatever it is you wonder about, right here, and have an illustrated answer like this one. (Am doing a lot of these right now, so there will be a little longer wait … but I’m worth it.)

GUIDANCE Uh, just because it’s impossible is no reason to do it. You can be afraid it’s too much for you … when it isn’t. But there’s no reason to strain yourself, so be picky about how many of the hard parts you take on. One miracle at a time, you know. We point out you can get so exhausted you can’t sleep. We find a line of demarcation in ‘anxious but not overwhelmed.’

.………..
……….
.……..…….. When you see Nine of Swords and Ten of Wands together, you know this isn’t going to be upbeat. Anxiety (Nine of Swords) and depression (Ten of Wands). Heavy (Ten of Wands) and scary (Nine of Swords). So we look to the companion card: Do we have a rescue? Big time: Four of Cups is refusing – is not letting it get to you. It also means ‘not getting through.’ Four of Cups is a negator, one of the main ones.
First of all, we have three Tarot cards here whose illustrations plainly state their meanings: Yay! Ten of Wands is taking on a lot, enough for it to be slow going. Four of Cups and Nine of Swords together say ‘Don’t let it [That would be Four of Cups of course] get to you [Nine of Swords]. So that’s our major theme. Note that Four of Cups depicts ‘not letting it get to you,’ since he is actively ignoring the cup-offers, AND that the slang term ‘let it get to you,’ which is another way of expressing the basic ‘nightmare’ meaning of Nine of Swords also contributes the words ‘get to you.’ When you see this overlap-of-phrases happening in your spreads, the cards are linking strongly, which is a signature of accuracy.
As a matter of fact, if you are used to doing Tarot, you see ‘Don’t worry’ with Four of Cups and Nine of Swords immediately. That is probably the very most frequent translation of this pair.
Four of Cups and Ten of Wands say ‘not ever,’ ‘don’t ever,’ ‘won’t ever’ – and other such phrases, even ‘not long.’ Ten of Wands is all the ‘forever’ and ‘long term’ words, and Four of Cups is all the ‘won’ts’ and ‘don’ts.’ It means resistance, including resisting temptation.
Notice how, in this spread, Ten of Wands amplifies meanings of the other cards and Four of Cups is canceling them out. Ten of Wands is the extreme of anything, and Four of Cups is refusing to permit it. You can think of Four of Cups as ‘not going to,’ which it often means, and Ten of Wands as ‘let myself get carried away with.’ Ten of Wands is carrying, we see. He is taking on the whole load, the whole thing, at once. [Again, we have an overlap of phrases in our vernacular (slang) translation.]
Ten of Wands and Nine of Swords also say ‘worry too much.’ They even say ‘overwhelming (Ten of Wands) fear (Nine of Swords).’ The picture in Nine of Swords suggests ‘Nights are when it gets to me,’ or night terrors.
This spread is another example of how a negator card – in this case Four of Cups – can produce different contradictory meanings as it relates to one card and not the other, and then switches its allegiance. Don’t let that drive you crazy. Remember, in a ‘real’ reading the question or the nearby card supplies these distinctions. [And always keep in mind that contradictions are life: that both conflicting statements can be operating at the same time. We have mixed feelings; we act the opposite of the way we feel.]
Four of Cups……. Four of Cups is simple: ‘No!’ The latest of four cups is offered to a fellow who clearly isn’t having any of Number Four, just like he didn’t have any of Numbers One through Three that sit on the ground in front of him. Arms crossed, legs crossed, seated, looking down and away: It all says ‘Not going to; don’t want to; don’t have to; don’t believe it; it isn’t getting through. [Once in a while this card says ‘The buck stops here.’]
Note that the action (as usual) applies both ways. Four of Cups also means ‘you can’t get through to this person,’ that something is blocked. It indicates an application, for example, is turned down.
Ten of Wands………Ten of Wands often simply means words like very, extremely, a lot, as well as too, and too much. It also means overloaded (obviously), overwhelming, exhausted, overworked. Along the same line, it can also say totally, more-so, even more, maximum, the most, anything, everything, and all, without implying excess. Watch for this card to add ‘-er’ and ‘-est’ as well as ‘-ier’ and ‘-iest’ to other cards’ words. (Today it translates ‘anything, ever.’)
Ten of Wands is about ‘doing it all in one load,’ which is slow but saves a second trip. Remember that the emphasis isn’t usually on the predicament of our laborer; it is on the fact that progress is slow but sure. Ten of Wands means ‘hang in there’ and ‘persist’ and even ‘You’re gonna make it.’
Difficult and its synonyms like hard, onerous and uphill, arduous, burden, and backbreaking belong to Ten of Wands as well. A lot of infrequent ones, like grueling, and the hard way, and getting in over your head show up for this illustration.
A trunk of Ten of Wands’ meaning tree is ‘slow.’ Many similar words join us here, like gradually, eventually, slows (him) down, long drawn-out, dragging out or dragging on, so long, slow going, take forever.
Sometimes Ten of Wands’ emphasis on on the long time, rather than the slow rate, so we have words like: long term, always, longer, finally, long-awaited, eventually, long drawn out, in the long run, and taking a long time. The ‘slow’ theme and the ‘difficult’ theme combine phrases to make things like a long hard row to hoe.
Ten of Wands is also about exhaustion, being tired, the strain of heavy involvement. It describes simply putting up with something too – and when it does, it’s no small thing that’s being endured.
Speaking of which, Ten of Wands joins a number of cards for the downer theme: depressing. It isn’t a lead card for sadness; it comes there by dint of being overwhelmed, exhausted and having ‘taken on too much.’
That’s a lot of choices that are similar, interlaced, even. ‘How am I going to make the distinction?’ you are wondering. The answer is context. Tarot Verbatim™ is language-based, so the term that fits in with the others is the one that will do – and there isn’t just one choice, anyway, as you can see from the more than twenty sentence I put up every day for the same cards.
Nine of Swords………Nine of Swords is distraught: Things get to you, especially in the middle of the night. Your nerves are shot. You are stressed out. Life is a nightmare. Sitting bolt upright in bed, hands to head in the classic position of headache or grief, is what you see, and you can’t miss its meaning. Nine of Swords is worry, grief, insomnia, losing sleep, scary things, sweating it out, dread, things getting on your last nerve, even having a good cry. It very frequently translates ‘anxiety’ or ‘anxious.’ Of course it can refer to a bad dream.
Watch for Nine of Swords (along with Hermit, Moon, and other night-scenes on cards) to simply mean ‘nighttime,’ especially if you asked when something would happen. Nine of Swords also talks about a lack of sleep, or staying up too late, and is advice to get some sleep. It can indicate stress as the cause of disturbed sleep too.
People who combine Tarot with astrology will take note of the many astrological images on Nine of Swords.
.
Sometimes things get to us that usually don’t. We take a good look here at carrying on step by step when we have undertaken some difficult endeavor, and not getting ourselves into losing sleep over it. ‘Sufficient unto the day is the grief thereof,’ Proverbs quotes. The underlying message is that you accomplish the near-impossible by refusing to be discouraged and carrying on.
.
Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:
