My question is:: I have 2 men in my life right now and I’m confused about who I should choose. I suppose it would help me decide between the two if I knew how they feel about me.
I agree. But this question is off-kilter. I’m sure you don’t want to know how they jointly feel about you. And you haven’t pegged them. Four of Swords – To be a knight, a candidate overnights in the church seeking a vision of his life purpose as a knight, to report it to the bishop for Bishop’s approval. Here, he lies on the slab covering the church’s relic, his hands folded in prayer. He is ‘not participating’ in most Tarot meaning books.

Four of Swords main meanings are about the lying down (relaxing, sleeping) and about not doing or not being. So this ‘not doing’ part makes Four of Swords a negator card (one that turns nearby cards negative or undoes their meaning). Today, for instance he adds these phrases: but isn’t, has nothing to do with, isn’t doing anything, has no, don’t have any, are not, doesn’t really, no other but, who just doesn’t, is not a, and no one else.

The meanings that arise from the lying down are these: relaxing, hanging around, chills out, doing nothing, still, still the same, I stay here, not even trying, and be done with it.

Four of Swords dissociates. He consciously, deliberately, does not participate. He isn’t responding. (In medical ‘unresponsive.’) He has nothing to do with. Four of Swords can even mean ‘inert.’ Four of Swords will come up for all sorts of dissociation, even for boredom.
Four of Wands – You have to know the picture is about the public part of a society wedding. Weddings of nobility affected borders, affected commerce, so they were made very public. Today, newspapers have wedding announcements.

Four of Wands naturally means marry, marriage, couple, family. In Tarot Verbatim™ all the family cards extend to any size group (the whole herd) from neighborhood to international, any group with something in common that makes its members a group.

So in Tarot Verbatim™ Four of Wands (a family card) means country, my kind of people, one of those people who, the firm, the Company. It also refers to members and being a member, refers to belonging, kinfolk (the relatives), and sometimes even refers to a relationship.

The home of the family is in the picture, so Four of Wands means house, home, marital home. That extends to meaning a building – particularly a public building in the case of Four of Wands because the story is about the public wedding.
Lovers – Today, in the presence of Four of Wands which also means a couple, Lovers sticks mostly to its mainstream meanings of anything to do with love, lovers and loving.

You see two people paired up in the picture. Lovers means partner (any kind); means being together, means being associated with, means being a couple, means both of us – and even means two people (or animals, or most anything) standing side by side or close together.

Lovers is also very much about connection. All forms of ‘connect’ belong to Lovers. Watch for connections to higher-ups.

It’s maddening, but sometimes a card’s meaning can produce the opposite thought when applied in your sentence. Four of Swords is a repeat offender in its ‘still that way’ meaning versus its ‘not any more’ meaning. Here today Four of Swords says both ‘isn’t marrying‘ and ‘still married. How this comes about is: The fellow lying on the coffin isn’t participating, isn’t being … isn’t. He is also lying there, still there, staying there, not going anywhere. Somehow in real Tarot life this doesn’t become a problem (at least in my real Tarot life). This blog – operating without a question and without a Querant (questioner) – is not real Tarot life; it is, say, the control group in the experiment.

Lovers means to associate; Four of Swords dissociates. Lovers is a connection; Four of Swords has nothing to do with that.

Today is about what divides people who are of the same family or community. Literally the four read: “Us. Them. Connect. Shun.” These four are awkward to interpret. There’s no action card, other than ‘leaving’ or ‘shunning’ for Six of Swords.

Two of Cups and Lovers both refer to people being influenced by outside forces or spiritual agents: That is why, on each of these Tarot cards, you see three parties (a triangle), and wings on both the ‘outside’ party figures. See? The angel over Adam and Eve like a guardian angel, and a caduceus over the other couple also has wings. Caduceus is a bad influence or an unclean spiritual influence. Lovers means a connection, so when you put the angel into it, it means divine or angelic influence. Two of Cups means a shady or infernal influence.
Four of Wands and Six of Swords are your people, your family (Four of Wands) and the Establishment (hence, orthodoxy) and leaving (Six of Swords) and going off in a different direction. Lovers The illustration unites otherwise-unrelated meanings. Today we are using love, connection, contact, and that’s it. It partakes of the ‘good influence’ theme in today’s story. The illustration shows the good influence of an angel on us (Adam and Eve).
Page of Wands This is the young earnest man who wants to fit in, find his niche. He is being attractive and respectable in order to accomplish that. You can think of him as the apprentice. So he is the son every mother would like to have and the boy friend every gal would like to have: handsome, well-brought-up, well-dressed. Page of Wands is to speak, talk or tell. It is about identity, and being identified with, being proud to be a member, being the spokesperson or poster boy.
Strength Strength can handle anything – finesse anything, actually. She has the magic touch that gets people to cooperate and to behave. Today we emphasize handling difficult cases, bringing up the good kid, and exerting influence. This card usually refers to a female. Her character, her spiritual ability, is so strong that she accomplishes feats (like making the predator purr, in the picture, like shutting the lion’s mouth with your bare hands).

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD
Today is about what divides people who are of the same family or community. Literally the four read: “Us. Them. Connect. Shun.” These four are awkward to interpret where it comes to Two of Cups, outside interference. The crux card is Six of Swords. It means to head away from one direction or place and head toward another better one. Lovers is the association or connection. Then you have Four of Wands, the Establishment and the (good people of the) neighborhood, and Two of Cups which is about a malefic influence, particularly spiritual or lustful bad influence. (Of course it also means grand love affair, the grande passion.) Addiction is part of the interference-from-outside theme. See, the way the cards are, if you are a born gypsy, those Episcopalians are the bad influence.
So the direction of leaving reads both ways for some of the sentences. The spread is more favoring the concept of going astray from orthodoxy because of the ‘temptation’ and ‘lust’ meanings of Two of Cups, which is a malefic card with the caduceus there upon it.

Four of Wands Us. Your family. The good people, good neighborhood. The headquarters of a major agency or corporation. Your country. A building or house. Marriage, marriage as an institution. Pictured is a society wedding, the union of leading political families.
Two of Cups (“Them.”) Is often ‘getting sucked in,’ being used, cheating or being cheated on. It is addiction or grande passion. It is something being done behind someone’s back as in embezzlement, conspiracy, undermining, subterfuge and sabotage. Mooches of all stripes, including bad spirits out to tempt you onto their playing field. Two of Cups is a relationship that has some undeclared motivation to it, whether from a third party or a participant. People miss the malefic bent of Two of Cups because they don’t know the caduceus (the twined snakes, lion’s head and wings symbol at the top middle of the Rider Waite Tarot card) symbolizes vampirism.
Lovers (“Connect.”) is about connecting and connection, about contact and association and partnership. Lovers too, of course. Its other meanings are not in use today. The illustration shows a volcano between Adam and Eve and the angel watching over them. The physical lovers aspect is here accentuated because Two of Cups is beside it.
Six of Swords (“Shun.”) finally gets out of there and heads off to better times. The future ahead is better than the dismal past behind. Shun, escape, move on. A mother and child in a boat designed for shallow water are being poled away from shore and are headed out of there poor in spirit and wearing poor clothes.

WELL, we start out with love and marriage, then a good-looking guy, and then a woman who can handle or influence (whatever).
Four of Wands is marriage, or family, or a company or organization or group. Lovers is being in love, being or having a love partner, connection, contact. Page of Wands is the good looking fellow, and also means to speak, to be identified with, to be a good, respectable person. Strength is the woman who overcomes, solves, handles, influences.
So we have a story.
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS
Four of Wands shows a society wedding, a community celebration uniting a guy and gal in love and their families in marriage. So it means all those things.
Lovers has the obvious meaning, depicting a man and woman nude as Adam and Eve, but is more complex than that. Today we are using only the meanings that relate to a man and woman uniting. So, love, connection, contact, being in love.
Page of Wands is a clean-cut, good looking (usually young) man, often the well-dressed type. It also means to speak and to be identified with, as well as to stand for.
He is the ‘fair-haired boy’ in the illustration.
Strength of character is the main message of this Rider Waite Tarot card. It shows a woman in a white robe making the lion who attacked her purr because of her ‘vibe.’ She wears flowers and has the symbol of eternity over her head.

In a hurry to marry/live with the woman he loves.
She is so sexy men of good family pursue her to be her lover.
She is from a wealthy family, she gets ahead on that connection.
He is in a hurry to marry a woman who has connections and money.
That’s all I can think of. When you have marriage or wealthy family (Four of Wands), sexy beautiful rich woman (Empress), man who pursues (Knight of Wands) and Lovers … well those only go together in so many ways, and these are they.
Advice is if you are a female, let him pursue you because you are gorgeous; and if you are male, pursue that gorgeous woman. End of story!
Meanings and Illustrations:
Four of Wands: Marriage, wealthy family, that’s all that can be used in the present company. Illustration on the Rider Waite Tarot card shows a wedding of a leading community family.
Empress: Beautiful, wealthy, sexy woman. She is the beloved, the valentine girl. Illustration shows exactly that, with some fertility symbols.
Knight of Wands: What else can the guy-card in the company of these others do but pursue the girl? Illustration shows him pursuing madly.
Lovers: Lovers means lovers of course, and also connection. That is all we use of it here. Illustration shows a naked man and woman in the Garden of Eden with a guardian angel looking over them from, of course, above.

Sometimes you have to deal with a big problem by ignoring it.
When you are ordered to do something wrong, there must be some way to not be there.
Conquer bad moods by doing something frivolous to take your mind off things.
To achieve the impossible, just keep trying.
Forget about the alternative of physical force.
The worst threat may never be.
Conquer this cycle of despair and optimism.
Ignore his/her nasty moods and make him/her feel silly.
You have to be optimistic when it’s one huge problem after another.
Moving parts have to break, you just don’t know when.
Have faith in the process of conquering the bad feelings/depression.
Combat a disability or handicap by continually making light of it.
A recurring problem has to not be there at times!
Keep the faith that even the worst will be overcome.
You just have to get nasty sometimes.
You go through this phase when you are young of being overcome by bad experiences.
This is general life advice that no matter how bad it is, don’t take it too seriously. Funny. That is one of the gifts of my readings: You are bigger than the problem, don’t let it get to you. (My father used to say, when I was a kid upset about some damn thing “Well, one of two things will happen: Either you will get over it, or you will die of it. Either way, getting upset won’t change it. After a while, you will forget all about it anyway.” He meant ‘so shut up already.’)
*We begin with the Ace of Swords which today means ‘the most’ and ‘conquer’ or ‘overcome’ or ‘be overcome.’ *Then we have the Devil, a very ambiguous heavy card that means ‘most anything nasty, and ‘a big problem’ as well ‘physical’ and ‘obstacle.’ *Then we have, in the Two of Pentacles, ‘it’s a cycle, it’s a phase’ and to keep it up, to keep trying, as well as ‘may or may not.’ *These are followed by the ‘oh, never mind’ Fool, which in Rider Waite Tarot means such things as young or youthful, to ignore, to be optimistic and ‘to not be’ as in ‘to not be there.’ The Fool is that wonderful mood where reality doesn’t matter, you have faith in the process.
The Fool and the Two of Pentacles are both lighthearted cards that suggest freedom. The Ace of Swords and the Devil are both heavy cards that suggest defeat or being overcome. (But the Ace of Swords’ main meaning is to overcome in battle.)
So the advice today is you are bigger than what ails your reality at this moment, and it will pass, so just ignore and rise above the whole thing, have faith that it’s a phase that must pass. And be happy. The Fool is a happy fella no matter what, and he’s on the road without provisions with his doggie companion.
Meanings and Illustrations:
Ace of Swords: Victory is its main song. With victory something else is defeated as a rule: The action goes both ways in the Tarot Verbatim school, as well as in Rider Waite Tarot. Ace of Swords also means such things as ‘the most’ and ‘an order’ and ‘must’ or ‘have to.’
Devil: Oh, here he is, that ugly glowering-faced hairy 500-pound gorilla in the room, looking very scary. This is anything detrimental, oppressive, nasty. This is the way you feel when you are depressed, “I can’t do anything about it.” But you can: See how the chains are loose on the necks? It is the force of habit of standing there being used to a bad situation or habit that has then standing there.
Two of Pentacles: Round and round, on and on, to everything there is a season, a phase, a cycle. It comes and it goes. Things are always in motion. The juggler has the mathematical sign of eternity around what he is juggling, and the ships in the background are going up and down on the waves. (By the way, this card can also mean dizziness or nausea!)
Fool: We close with being free, freedom, being not really present but going along making the best of things. The Fool is a happy-go-lucky fella who is on the road on a sunny day with a little snack, a rose and a doggie. Optimism is the song of the Fool.
