Sun
Whatever held you back, or held you up, is out of the way. You are now free and moving on, maybe moving forward (See other cards.). Sun is freedom; Sun is fun. He leans on his shovel in the midst of his labor over his plants, to hope there will be cucumbers on that vine that hasn’t bloomed in flowers yet that would lead to the fruit.

Eight of Pentacles and Eight of Wands both mean continuing processes of any sort, both mean many times over, repeatedly. Four of Cups puts a stop to it, and is a very general negator card. So we have two cards of keep-doing-it and one of stopping it. Eight of Wands is a major speak/tell/say card, so you immediately see both ‘do it and don’t talk about it’ and ‘talk about it and don’t do it.’ Eight of Pentacles is the ‘do’ and it also means work. Three of Pentacles
Three of Pentacles is THE relationship card. When in doubt, lay that ‘relationship’ word on this card, because it covers dealing with, and it covers coming to agreement or settlement with – anybody in any area of life. So Three of Pentacles is dealing with other people, and it’s a relationship, and it’s you doing your part and/or they doing their part in said relationship. Networking is included in this, of course.
Three of Pentacles is also any kind of meeting, whether a scheduled business meeting or running into someone on the street, or a get-together for sex, or a world peace congress – any meeting whatsoever.
Three of Pentacles owns ‘fair and square’ and doing [add any possessive pronoun] part in anything. It is also a legal card about coming to agreement, court hearings, settling up, contracts.
These meanings come about because the picture is a meeting a general contractor and architect is having with clients, who hold the blueprint for the building while he explains how he has done his part fair and square and deserves to be paid his final draw (which is his profit) – so they are coming to agreement.
Empress
This is one of those all-over-the-place cards if you know all or most of its habitual meanings. What you see is a beautiful sexy lady who is pregnant and taking it easy in her beautiful life. So this is the card for pregnant-anything. Remember, Empress arises from fertility goddesses. The meaning comes from being a ‘3.’ The first few cards in Rider Waite Tarot, whose source is Golden Dawn, derive their meanings from what that numbers means in occult or esoteric circles.
So Empress is relaxed (laid back, literally, there), easygoing or phlegmatic; is a resource and hence is resourceful (the pregnant state); is enjoying life; is beautiful; lives well and can be spoiled or adored; is the ideal woman, the Goddess, or the trophy dame. Hers is also a peaceful life.
Apply this card last, because it can be the easygoing gal, the gal who is a resource (talent) for others, the spoiled gal, the gal who others provide for, the woman with money, the slut, and the ideal or trophy woman.
Ten of Pentacles
Tarot Verbatim’s ™ Ten of Pentacles is not anyone else’s. What you see in the picture is a family disagreement and a power play by the patriarch that Son is going along with, and they are not listening to the wife. Imagine that. The dogs know who’s boss here. Emily suspects imperial grandpa wants another progeny – a boy this time. Whatever it is, something’s in it for son/husband who turns away from pleading mother/wife and stares into space.
And Tarot Verbatim™ adopts meanings from illustrations, and from ‘the field,’ from reading after reading’s use for that particular card. Hanged Man Hanged Man is Inside Out. He is suspended between heaven and earth in his illustration, and that is the message of this Rider Waite card: Absolute Truth, meet Perception. The energy halo (hair-on-fire) as the blood rushes to our inverted human’s head represents: strong feeling; intensity; instinct; gut feelings; intense urge; strong faith; inspiration; vision; psychic impression, realization, seeing through, seeing beyond, open mind; intuition; bright idea; being on fire for something, getting it.

Hanged Man is the junction of conscious and subconscious awareness, but it is not about the dark side of any kind of consciousness: It emphasizes that bridge over which realizations pass from one side of the mentality or psyche to the other.

Sun
Whatever held you back, or held you up, is out of the way. You are now free and moving on, maybe moving forward (See other cards.). Sun is freedom; Sun is fun. Sun is the happy camper, the charming guy, recreation and vacation. Sun is sunshine; you are free from the restrictions of whatever shadow there was. That’s for today. In other spreads, in other Tarot company, Sun shows a different face – but today he is all shine.
Hierophant
Hierophant is about face, and has several faces. The scene is the pope doing the usual ritual with the usual people in church where all is clean and everyone behaves. Today Hierophant reflects ‘the usual’ and the behaving, and the safety of the norm. This Hierophant card has deeper meanings, and other applications – but not today. Today we are lite.
It means ‘fast’ and ‘quickly’ and such words as well. That, you can tell from its illustration.
Seven of Pentacles
Huh? Maybe. What if. You suppose? Wonder, ponder, figure, figuring out, doubt, question and puzzle, speculation and uncertainty. That’s our Seven of Pentacles boy. He leans on his shovel in the midst of his labor over his plants, to hope there will be cucumbers on that vine that hasn’t bloomed in flowers yet that would lead to the fruit.

Now Without The Pictures

Eight of Pentacles and Eight of Wands both mean continuing processes of any sort, both mean many times over, repeatedly. Four of Cups puts a stop to it, and is a very general negator card. So we have two cards of keep-doing-it and one of stopping it. Eight of Wands is a major speak/tell/say card, so you immediately see both ‘do it and don’t talk about it’ and ‘talk about it and don’t do it.’ Eight of Pentacles is the ‘do’ and it also means work. You see ‘stop talking’ and ‘stop working.’ You see stories.

. Hierophant and Page of Wands are similar cards with different applications. Both mean being respectable, behaving well, conforming, fitting in, being accepted and acceptable, and having the right look. They are both about appearances more than actualities. Hierophant is more about the qualities, and Page of Wands is a person who has those characteristics or qualities. So Hierophant is respectability, and Page of Wands is respectable.
Hierophant is about the face of things, having a straight face, having the right papers and so forth. Hierophant is about standards and strictures – conforming to them, complying with them, being okay. Hierophant very often simply says the ordinary, usual, average … the consensus more than what’s right. Hierophant is the official story, the things most people pretend to believe or think they believe. There’s an artificiality to Hierophant, a hypocrisy, sometimes. The root meaning of the card is the difference between the way it really is, and the way we act like it is – whether we are a person or a government or a workplace.
Page of Wands is a person who fits in, conforms, is acceptable and accepted, who wants to please and is someone everyone gets along with. The ‘conforming’ expands, in Page of Wands, to speech or talk (well-spoken), to dress (well-dressed or appropriately dressed), to physical appearance (handsome, young, good-looking, fit). But it also stands for those qualities or characteristics, so it can describe a female as well. Most often, it applies to a person in his or her twenties, starting out in life as an apprentice and wanting to fit in. (Of course, we all know elderly people who are youthful in their way of living.) Keep in mind, though, that Page of Wands often simply reads ‘he,’ and does not stand for a female when it is just referring to person like that.
An aspect of Page of Wands we have not touched upon, because we are not using it today, is ‘standing up’ and ‘standing for’ and making a claim, giving your word. Popeye’s ‘I am who I am.’
Hierophant and Eight of Pentacles refer to a routine. Hierophant describes a protocol, a ceremony, a ritual, and the proper way it’s done, or the way it’s usually done. Eight of Pentacles is doing the same operation over and over, exemplified by a carpenter making identical pieces.
Eight of Pentacles is the job, work, workplace, work site, working class, worker, employment, and steadily doing the same thing. It often says ‘over and over’ and ‘keep doing,’ which means continuing to do something as well as ‘keeping at it.’ It refers to consistently being or doing – like loving you consistently rather than sporadically, like calling or showing up consistently – but of course the other card is necessary for this application. Look for ‘ing’ words (gerunds) for this. Soo now we know what all this from the other cards applies to: the job.
Seven of Pentacles The remaining Rider-Waite Tarot card asks a question, is not so sure about something, wonders and ponders, and translates ‘maybe.’ It can say ‘doubt,’ especially doubt about an outcome because the fellow leaning on the shovel is not sure his labor will pay off in produce: Cucumbers need a plant of the opposite gender in order to bear.

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES
Hierophant means pope. There he is in a red robe, monks kneeling to his authority. Conformity galore. Here it will refer to fitting in and being the right type of person. Hierophant is about the surface appearance: the ritual, not its real meaning. This idea is illustrated by the pope doing a ritual with some monks or priests.
Page of Wands dresses the part and speaks well. He is all about image and fitting in and being acceptable, about being the type, and type-casting yourself. He is the good-looking respectable young man your mother wants/wanted you to marry. He can be vain and foppish in Tarot Verbatim™ as he is pictured in our Rider Waite deck here.
Eight of Pentacles is about repetitive action, doing something in the same way over and over, as the carpenter makes one identical tile after another here. Work, employment, the workplace, the job, being the worker or being working-class. Eight of Pentacles is also about being consistent, keeping at it, being steady.
Seven of Pentacles ponders and puzzles and questions. When you grow plants that have gender, they don’t bear fruit unless both genders are within some vicinity of one another. This is the questionable situation in the illustration.

We have all observed some situation in which ostensibly (seemingly) normal people permit a pushy nitwit to take control. Only another maverick will shatter the pattern. There is a ‘supposed to be like this’ gear in mammal psyche that bullies and politicians take advantage of. I think it lies right next to the ‘duh’ gear in the human brain, myself. People who defy this gear annoy the rest of the herd no end.
Today we invite you to inquire into the helpless feeling we get that paralyzes resistance to others’ influence on us. The message is to figure it out, that when we see what is happening we will have the nerve and the will to repossess our natural assertiveness.
Hierophant and StrengthHierophant is the rules, the way things are supposed to be, the protocol, the official narrative we are born into, the shouldness we live with unless we are natural born sociopaths. Strength is influence being applied along those lines of conforming to those rules; but strength is also overcoming opposition to our own well-being. (Strength is about overcoming within oneself as well as overcoming external influences.) These two Rider Waite Tarot cards are our dominant story line.
Hierophant and Eight of SwordsEight of Swords is the helpless feeling, is being boxed in, unable and ‘can’t.’ You could say Hierophant is the Box and Eight of Swords is being in the Box. And of course the helpless feeling is what the lion who attacked Strength experiences as he purrs through gritted teeth.
Seven of Pentacles is figuring out – is asking the question, doubting the situation or the outcome. Seven of Pentacles is innocently and naturally quizzical as in ‘Who’d a thunk it?’ Seven of Pentacles is a question mark, like ‘Duh?’ and ‘Hmmm.’

Hierophant Since the dawn of time, religions have similar propaganda as governments, so that the official stories we learn in the nursery, the temple and the school are very different from what a cognoscenti (person in the know) at the center of one of the institutions would figure. This is called ‘historical narrative’ – this process of keeping a version for the peasants that is very watered down. So here is the pope doing an official ceremony with attendant monks. Hierophant is the rules, the way things are supposed to be, the protocol, the official culture we are born into, the shouldness we live with unless we are natural born mavericks
Seven of Pentacles Huh? Basis for doubt lies within the situation which contains the assumption itself. Assumption: You plant, it grows, you have cucumbers. Fact: Not unless both genders of the plant are close enough by. People who have a gift for the ‘Huh?’ are blessed with insight and cursed with having to deal with the folks who assume there has to be cucumbers if you plant cucumber seed.
Eight of Swords Ain’t nothin’ you can do about it. You are tied up, unable, disabled, blind to, helpless, beyond help: You are in the Box. The walls of the Box are made of ‘can’t.’ The Illustration shows the bindings are loose on the lady tied and blindfolded in the swamp below the castle.
Strength Really, the theme of Strength is that strength of character overcomes the fiercest opposition: that your will is all you need to resolve opposition or mend a situation – both internal and external opposition. The lion came to attack her but she nullifies his attack through her higher-plane credentials – expressed in the eternity symbol over her head, the white gown with the garlands. She turns his roar to a purr, and there ain’t nothin’ he can do about it.

Hierophant and Page of Wands are similar cards with different applications. Both mean being respectable, behaving well, conforming, fitting in, being accepted and acceptable, and having the right look. They are both about appearances more than actualities. Hierophant is more about the qualities, and Page of Wands is a person who has those characteristics or qualities. So Hierophant is respectability, and Page of Wands is respectable.
Hierophant is about the face of things, having a straight face, having the right papers and so forth. Hierophant is about standards and strictures – conforming to them, complying with them, being okay. Hierophant very often simply says the ordinary, usual, average … the consensus more than what’s right. Hierophant is the official story, the things most people pretend to believe or think they believe. There’s an artificiality to Hierophant, a hypocrisy, sometimes. The root meaning of the card is the difference between the way it really is, and the way we act like it is – whether we are a person or a government or a workplace.
Page of Wands is a person who fits in, conforms, is acceptable and accepted, who wants to please and is someone everyone gets along with. The ‘conforming’ expands, in Page of Wands, to speech or talk (well-spoken), to dress (well-dressed or appropriately dressed), to physical appearance (handsome, young, good-looking, fit). But it also stands for those qualities or characteristics, so it can describe a female as well. Most often, it applies to a person in his or her twenties, starting out in life as an apprentice and wanting to fit in. (Of course, we all know elderly people who are youthful in their way of living.) Keep in mind, though, that Page of Wands often simply reads ‘he,’ and does not stand for a female when it is just referring to person like that.
An aspect of Page of Wands we have not touched upon, because we are not using it today, is ‘standing up’ and ‘standing for’ and making a claim, giving your word. Popeye’s ‘I am who I am.’
Hierophant and Eight of Pentacles refer to a routine. Hierophant describes a protocol, a ceremony, a ritual, and the proper way it’s done, or the way it’s usually done. Eight of Pentacles is doing the same operation over and over, exemplified by a carpenter making identical pieces.
Eight of Pentacles is the job, work, workplace, work site, working class, worker, employment, and steadily doing the same thing. It often says ‘over and over’ and ‘keep doing,’ which means continuing to do something as well as ‘keeping at it.’ It refers to consistently being or doing – like loving you consistently rather than sporadically, like calling or showing up consistently – but of course the other card is necessary for this application. Look for ‘ing’ words (gerunds) for this. Soo now we know what all this from the other cards applies to: the job.
The remaining Rider-Waite Tarot card asks a question, is not so sure about something, wonders and ponders, and translates ‘maybe.’ It can say ‘doubt,’ especially doubt about an outcome because the fellow leaning on the shovel is not sure his labor will pay off in produce: Cucumbers need a plant of the opposite gender in order to bear.

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES
Hierophant means pope. There he is in a red robe, monks kneeling to his authority. Conformity galore. Here it will refer to fitting in and being the right type of person. Hierophant is about the surface appearance: the ritual, not its real meaning. This idea is illustrated by the pope doing a ritual with some monks or priests.
Page of Wands dresses the part and speaks well. He is all about image and fitting in and being acceptable, about being the type, and type-casting yourself. He is the good-looking respectable young man your mother wants/wanted you to marry. He can be vain and foppish in Tarot Verbatim™ as he is pictured in our Rider Waite deck here.
Eight of Pentacles is about repetitive action, doing something in the same way over and over, as the carpenter makes one identical tile after another here. Work, employment, the workplace, the job, being the worker or being working-class. Eight of Pentacles is also about being consistent, keeping at it, being steady.
Seven of Pentacles ponders and puzzles and questions. When you grow plants that have gender, they don’t bear fruit unless both genders are within some vicinity of one another. This is the questionable situation in the illustration.
