Hierophant Hierophant is all about physical real-world doings where the rubber meets the road. The pope is doing his usual ritual routine activity with his usual cohorts in the usual way. Think of Hierophant as the middle way in Goldilocks’ story, and up come these words for it: normal, within normal limits, enough, okay and acceptable. Look at the scene of the repeating spectacle there and pick up these words for Hierophant: usually, the rut, things as they are, what everybody (is or does). Think churchy too: Hierophant owns religions, the rules, respectability, behaving, conforming, should, ought, and being conservative.

Six of Pentacles You see a fair exchange of money for labor in the illustration. The workers are getting exactly what they are due, what they deserve. This is a buy-sell exchange. Very basic meanings of Six of Pentacles are to receive, to give, and just reward. The scales make it a legal card along these lines too.

.

Today the ‘give’ part of Six of Pentacles lends these words to our readings: to pay, donate, spend, give, buy, have money to, invest, give attention, and budget.

.

The ‘receive’ part of Six of Pentacles lends these words to our readings: get, getting, be paid for, whatever you are getting now, gets you attention, the pay, accepting, to be paid.

.

The ‘fair exchange’ part of Six of Pentacles lends these words to our readings: is only fair, I deserve, you deserve.

Sun The reckless tyke gets out of the house for some fun, flouting the rules, to sport nude upon the miffed donkey, bareback and arms akimbo. Every element of the pictured scene will apply to your readings, but don’t expect anything about the consequence of the little brat’s actions. (That plays no part in my readings with Sun.)

.

Main divisions of Sun’s dictionary are: child and children; fun, happy, thrill; freedom and moving out of the house – which includes vacation and ‘getting out of the house for some fun.’

.

The rarer meanings used today from Sun’s dictionary are: reckless, fling, charming.

Hierophant

Hierophant

Hierophant is ‘entitled’ and ‘should’ and the usual, normal condition or situation. It’s about the cleaned-up image we, and institutions, present officially.  It’s about face, it’s about the surface.  It about the news that’s fit to print and ‘keeping a clean nose,’ meaning ‘look respectable.’  The  ‘real meaning’ of the public ritual the pope is doing is for the initiated:  That’s how the illustration connects with the meanings of Hierophant.  (Hierophant means pope.)

Six of Pentacles

Six of Pentacles

Six of Pentacles is paying and being paid fairly, an even and fair exchange.  The employer weighs the coins he pays the laborers with.  Gold coins’ worth is in the weight of the gold, and as they wear down, they are worth less.  The emphasis can be on the giving, or the receiving, or on the exchange, when Six of Pentacles is being applied.

Nine of Cups

Nine of Cups

Nine of Cups is being satisfied, and is what you want, and getting what you want.  It is also being content, the feeling of a full belly.  It is also about the attitude of ‘want the world and want it now,’ of feeling entitled to be overpaid – in other words, about being spoiled or greedy. You see a hubby fella with a goofy grin, nine empties on the mantle behind him.

Ace of Cups

Ace of Cups

Ace of Cups is love, health, cooperation, ease and easy – a comfortable flow.  The illustration shows the presence of God flowing through a person’s five senses and into the body of water that would represent the consciousness of other people generally.  It uses Roman Catholic symbols.

Now Without The Pictures

There’s no drama here, relax today.  Our first two panelists connect with fairness, with giving and receiving what you should get or receive – nice and normal exchange.  Hierophant is ‘entitled’ and ‘should’ and the usual, normal condition or situation.  Six of Pentacles is paying and being paid fairly, an even and fair exchange.

Nine of Cups is being satisfied, and is what you want, and getting what you want.  It is also being content, the feeling of a full belly.

Ace of Cups is love, health, cooperation, ease and easy – a comfortable flow.

This describes an uneventful pleasant day, a day when we have the feeling ‘All’s right with the world; God’s on his throne.’   A sense of fairness, a sense of having enough and not wanting any more than that, pervades this spread.  It says things like “Should be satisfied to receive the same love you give.”

Our Daily Spread for August 31, 2011 Wednesday ©

Advice is making the distinction between being right and being moral, between being of good repute and doing right by others, giving everyone his due. In the same way, it makes the distinction between the pay scale for the work and the actual work done for the actual pay. Such disparities are the norm, we say. They don’t pay you for doing what you are supposed to. Doing the accepted thing isn’t doing the right thing.

Is this the first time you come here? Well … what to do:

*Go to Daily Message Tarot Analysis below. One or more of those sentences has something to say to you. Pick those out. They are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. (It is a group message like a horoscope, except Tarot isn’t based on someone else’s birth data, so it can be specific, accurate, detailed and direct. Our experiment here is “How much more accurate is it?”)

*Go to Advice to apply what those sentences say (in the best way) for you. (Advice is everyone’s favorite part.) Did you come here for your predictions? – You are done now – See you tomorrow.

The Question for weekdays is: “Tell the visitors here something useful and meaningful to them. The Question for weekends is stated right on top on those days.

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

DAILY MESSAGE TAROT ANALYSIS

Tell the visitors here something useful and meaningful to them.

Doing the right thing

Doing the accepted thing isn’t doing the right thing.

Hypocritical acts involve avoiding doing right by others.

Giving to a church isn’t the right thing to do.

Avoid doing the conventional actions and do right by the people whom you owe.

They avoid doing the right thing that they owe their fellow human and instead do the morally accepted thing.

Ducking out on paying these bills is doing the right thing.

You do what is appropriate when you don’t have the money to pay.

Financial Perspective; Getting Paid

They aren’t paying you for doing what you are supposed to.

Ducks out on doing what entitles ___ to be paid.

Did not do what would entitle (him) to be paid.

The official pay scale isn’t what they are practicing.

Paid not to do it the way it would be approved.

He does it according to accepted practice for approval, not just to get paid.

Get paid for doing it but not in the right amount.

He did not get to do what they paid him to do, but that’s okay.

He is supposed to get paid before he does the job.

This is the kind of thing you do and they don’t have to pay you for it.

You are still entitled to be paid if you skip doing that.

He wasn’t present when it was done but is entitled to payment.

Miscellaneous

That would be paying a bill that is not legitimate!

Not getting the attention he deserves for what he does.

What he does is avoid paying in full: He feels so entitled.

She was gone before you could give her what she truly deserved so you did not get to.

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD

Right away, we have a contrast between doing right by people and/or being treated right by them in the Six of Pentacles story, and the appearance of doing right in Hierophant story.

Since Six of Pentacles is getting paid for work done, and Eight of Cups suggests incompletion, we have a financial theme too.

Magician tells us this spread will be about doing, about actions. Eight of Cups tells us the story is about action not being completed, something being avoided or ducked out on or walked away from.

So in the middle we have getting paid. To the left, appropriately and according to the paperwork. To the right, something isn’t finished or doesn’t happen, or doesn’t happen fully. Above, something is done.

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS

Hierophant is the show of religion. That is the pope in his regalia and the priests in theirs, so it is about church, but can refer to the show of any religion, or religiosity or hypocrisy. (And you don’t have to be Christian to be a hypocrite!) It means the accepted moral conventional whatever, and also means ordinary, normal and ‘no harm.’ ‘For appearance’s sake’ is a good key phrase for this Rider Waite Tarot card. Hierophant is about respectability, about looking clean (‘having a clean nose’). It is a nice normal decent-looking whatever. It is the accepted whatever, is approved, is official.

Six of Pentacles, on the other hand is doing right by others, giving others their due, paying the appropriate attention to anything. It is getting paid fairly or paying a fair price, illustrated literally by an employer weighing the coins he is paying the workers.

Eight of Cups abruptly is off the designated route – in this case because the road could go no other way. It means incompletion, detour, re-routing, dropping out, not finishing whatever.

Magician is the active principle, the male principle. It is the act of, doing – any tense of the verb ‘do’ and most tenses of ‘make,’ and also means ‘to bring about. No planning or thinking is involved per se in this card’s meaning, just as no action meanings are involved in the female principle, High Priestess.

Our Daily Spread for Jan. 16, 2011

Tarot reading 1-16-11

How come this bad boy is treating me right?

Six of Pentacles

Page of Cups, Hierophant, Five of Swords

It seems it’s a good day and you get your money back that was taken away.
Somehow he – the guy who does it his way – is being decent and treating you right.
Is this right?  This guy is taking more than his fair share.
How can this be a religious person when he is taking unfair advantage in the relationship?
How can this be a decent person when he is taking unfair advantage in the deal?
A guy who seems respectable gets you to pay.
Is this the way it should be?  That’s what you get for having an attitude.
Maybe he is really a good person, he paid a lot more than a fair price.

The contrast here is between being fair and being taken advantage of, between a fair deal and a ripoff, between a decent person (or man) and an opportunist – so I put it together in various ways.
