Tarot Readings for You for September 23-24, 2017 Weekend
GUIDANCE She overcomes an abusive husband, the same husband the other woman dominates. Another edgy man is the husband of a woman with an iron will. His lady is into peace and quiet so he has to control his temper. Having overcome his animal side through spirituality, this common man is master of the spiritual plane. Today we are full of stories about overcoming, about getting control over another person or our own nature.

High Priestess – A complex card, one of the occult or esoteric ones. She is surrounded by Kabbalah paraphernalia, even wears the crown of Egyptian royalty. In short, the fact this is the number two card of the Major Arcanae makes this the female card, not doing anything but knowing. (Being the number one card of the Major Arcanae gives Magician the opposite meanings and makes him the male card, the one who takes initiative and acts.) High Priestess represents the spiritual plane – thus spirituality. Magician represents the physical plane. The spiritual plane controls the physical in some sense, so High Priestess is the power behind the throne. And these concepts help us ‘get’ the core meanings of these two cards, so we can apply them more flexibly.
.
In real life Tarot practice, this is the lady, the passive party, a person who does not act, who stays put, who knows all and knows secret(s), the expert, a data bank, and even the Tarot deck, the book in her lap. Sometimes High Priestess represents the mental plane. The book in her lap can say ‘bookkeeper.’
.
High Priestess can translate ‘behind the scene.’ So she is the behind-the-scenes person – which stretches to being ‘the other woman.’ Yes, ‘the other woman’ is an odd meaning, but High Priestess regularly shows up for that. Besides being quietly behind something, she is alone by herself, associated with secrets, and waiting without taking initiative herself.
.
High Priestess is very much associated not only with being quiet, but with peace-and-quiet itself. The quiet lady. Privacy. Patience. The sedentary life. Being receptive. A desk job, a secretary.
.
Rare and odd meanings for High Priestess: Occasionally, if the story involves a person in a wheelchair, High Priestess will show up for that – and Chariot may too. The pictures themselves bring that about. Another rare meaning you may find is a person in some way associated with the moon, because she has the moon at her feet. Today we have the phrase ‘passive-aggressive’ with High Priestess and Ace of Swords.
.
This is a quote from another blog post, but it succinctly reviews High Priestess Meanings, so I drop it in here: “In real life, this Rider Waite Tarot card means lady, ladylike, quiet woman, keeping quiet, she knows, she knows and isn’t acting on it, she knows and isn’t divulging, a secret, the other woman, feminine, sedentary, passive, knowing the unknown or the secret, expert, the spiritual plane, spiritual, the mental plane or mental, book, bookkeeper, unassertive or passive, to know about.”
Ace of Swords – How many times have you heard someone say ‘He aced it.”? Ace of Swords is about that kind of stellar accomplishment. The illustration screams winning and victory, what with the crown on the sword which is itself crowned with the traditional laurel leaves of victory. Ace of Swords goes beyond that: It means totally. All one way, no compromise, no gray zone, no ifs, ands, or buts. It’s total victory for one side, total defeat for the other. And it’s a challenge.
.
Ace of Swords is also about the drive to achieve or accomplish. Must. Got to. The will to do, no matter what. Those are very common Ace of Swords words. It means ‘orders’ and it means ‘ultimatum.’
.
Of course, Ace of Swords is about force, about threat: It’s a weapon being displayed, after all. It translates assertive, abusive, and aggressive. It is all about power, dominance and dominating, being The Boss. It means to oppose, and it also represents the opposition you face.
.
To overcome is very Ace of Swords, whether it’s overcoming the opposition or overcoming a challenge, or some kind of personal internal overcoming.
King of Wands – Well here’s your common man. Got some street in him, as Cher would say. Every group is known by its least members, so it falls to King of Wands to be the lout, to be Archie Bunker, to represent men who have little or no class. He is rash, hotheaded, has a temper, is angry and mouthy, a ruffian at times. Edgy. But it‘s guys like Seven of Swords and Knight of Pentacles who are the deliberate punks. King of Wands is the Country Boy, the good old boy; and he is the workingman, working with his hands (associated with Eight of Pentacles). King of Wands is what some Christians call ‘the natural man,’ a derogatory title.
.
This is the uninhibited and impulsive man: Watch those words come right up to him. And here is where his meanings take a turn: King of Wands is the passionate man. Romantically and in other ways too. He can also be the maverick, the guy who does what other guys only think of doing. You tend to stereotype this Tarot card as lower middle class, but the impulsive uninhibited maverick side of King of Wands can be a rash stockbroker, lawyer, or businessman. Just think Donald Trump.
.
King of Wands is the main card for husband and married man, mainly because Queen of Wands is the domestic engineer who runs and organizes the household or the business – the Wife. So King of Wands translates ‘married man’ just as Queen of Wands often says ‘married woman.’ Watch for King of Wands to pop up in a story about dating to imply the dude is married.

.
Lots of material for stories here, especially about domination between a woman ( ladylike, most likely, with High Priestess, or wise – or even the other woman’) and a man ( Archie Bunker: the common man, the passionate man, the husband, or the loutish ill-tempered type).
.
Ace of Swords is the domination of course, and it leaves no room for compromise: It’s all one way, whatever it is – often, total defeat paired with total victory. “ All or nothing at all” is Ace of Swords’ song. Getting the best of (whatever). Ace of Swords is aggression, assertiveness, getting control of, clash, willpower, mastery, overcoming. It also translates ‘ certain’ and ‘ absolute’ or ‘ absolutely.’ Ace of Swords means ‘ must’ or ‘ got to’ and also is victory or achievement.
.
Ace of Swords is ‘ acing it.’ Achieving something definitive, something major.
.
Anything that threatening, or anything with supreme power, is not likely to be challenged, so Ace of Swords (like its counterpart Ace of Wands) is to be Number One. But remember: Ace of Swords also represents the challenge itself.
.
Ace of Swords and High Priestess: Ace of Swords is assertive or aggressive; High Priestess is passive. Together they can describe a quiet lady with an iron will who makes people do (whatever). We have all met quiet tyrant females. Since ‘the action can go both ways’ in Tarot, Ace of Swords and High Priestess also describe the lady being intimidated, being forced into passivity (or whatever the story is). Today Ace of Swords and High Priestess say passive- aggressive. Remember that, because it happens every once in a while.
.
High Priestess and King of Wands are story material: the quiet little lady and her loudmouth lout, or the passive woman with the aggressive husband. Here we have Archie Bunker and Guinevere, a beauty-and– the-beast pair. Here we also have the husband with the other woman, or the lady’s man being a married man.
.
Ace of Swords and King of Wands make stories about an edgy ill-tempered combative guy and the combat. Could be putting the upstart in his place decisively. Could be the man with a bad temper threatening someone or something. It could be even the passionate man’s challenge (that quiet little lady, maybe, who is his roommate in this spread?). Could be the abusive husband, since Ace of Swords can be ‘ abusive,’ of course. Could also be the victory of the proletariat, the common man. Could be a man is very angry about being forced or ordered around, or about being prohibited or opposed in some way.
.
Like I said, we have stories with these three cards.

The brawn and the brain, when they are together on something, ace it. No matter how powerful the idea in the theoretical phase, someone is hands-on when it gets to the physical phase. Passion and patience are likely involved in a major achievement.
