Three of Cups is partnering with others, being close; Lovers is partnering with another one-on-one – not just in love life, but certainly including love life. You could say Three of Cups is dating, and Lovers is the bonded pair, the settled love relationship. And Knight of Swords is to pursue, is the trip out of town, and is the fast track of a man who is on the way up. (Yes, it usually applies to fellows, since the energy of Knight of Wands is really so macho.)
Knight of Wands is speeding ahead … or running from … with great energy – to be gung-ho or to flee (eschew). Three of Cups is to enjoy, to share, to socialize, and to celebrate together.
Knight of Wands……….Knight of Wands is going out of town in a hurry, although he can mean hot pursuit as well. The salamander pattern on his clothes and his red hair indicate a macho nature, like King of Wands. Knight of Wands is a man with a lot of energy and possibly a temper. He is in a hurry: That is the overall main emphasis of Knight of Wands. Knight of Wands is on the road, traveling – usually out of town. This is the card for ‘on the road’ jobs. He is leaving or coming – getting out of Dodge or hot pursuit. Today, in the company of the ladies (Three of Cups), he is going to see his girl. Knight of Wands is on the fast track, making fast progress, and ‘on the way up’ when it comes to business. Knight of Wands pursues his love, or chases women. You can see from his wind-whipped clothing that he is hurrying, speeding. That is his most commonly used characteristic.
Three of Cups………..Three of Cups Glasses are lifted; Three people are having a happy celebration, toasting the prosperity they are sharing together. Three of Cups is having close friends you do business with, is enjoying one another’s company in a face-to-face meeting. The main highway of Three of Cups’ meaning is this sharing and good convivial feeling.
The story is: The parties have gone together in a joint venture, pooling their labor and money, in growing and harvesting the pumpkins; and now they are sharing the profit. Three of Cups is often a get-together of three people in your Tarot spreads; so is Three of Pentacles – even moreso; and both of these are about relationships of friendship, business or romance.
Now, about the girls you see there. Three of Cups embraces sisterhood, girls’ night out, party girls, a group of girlfriends, dating, stylish women, popular women, debutantes, ‘the beautiful people,’ socialites, and women’s organizations.
Here are the main meanings of Three of Cups: Sharing, camaraderie, celebration, profit, prosperity, trust, close friends, girls together, party girls or party, dating, sisterhood. (Camaraderie is The Three Musketeers: One for all, and all for one.)

Lovers……….Lovers is a general card in Tarot Verbatim™. Lovers isn’t just lovers and love life. It’s actually a sloppy grab-bag of meanings. It can say ‘pal’ or ‘buddy,’ of course. Look for connection; look for contact; look for partnerships of any kind too – or any pair of people, even just standing next to one another – who are together. Naturally, it means ‘a couple,’ referring to people, since Adam and Eve are a couple. The ‘partner’ category includes ‘making partner’ in business.
Don’t overlook the connection, contact, and partnership translates: These are major and often. Lovers is partnering up, contacting (or being contacted by), another person (including a person in power – the ‘higher-up’). Lovers is also being close to or intimate. Lovers as connection can refer to any kind of connection, even a mechanical one – like, say, a paper clip, or a tow hitch, or making a connection between two ideas in your mind, or in a presentation. Anything. (A connection is a connection.) Lovers also means a direct connection, like ‘reporting directly to the CEO.’
Now look at the angel, above the couple, watching or watching over them. The concept of ‘higher-ups’ comes to play – again in a very general way. Higher-ups or ‘Upstairs,’ as we sometimes call it, can be supervisors or bosses at work; can be politicians or agencies in power. Higher-ups refers to spiritual forces too (usually on the good side): God, divinity, angels, guardian angels, watchers. Lovers can tell you God is on your side.
But Lovers is also surveillance, including electronic surveillance, and even, sometimes, stalking.
Watching, ‘looking out for,’ ‘got you covered,’ and protection. This concept of the guardian angel protecting then expands to insurance, which brings up the word ‘coverage.’ Lovers can be very specific about insurance. Put it next to Chariot, and you got car insurance. Next to Tower, you could have advice to get fire insurance or calamity insurance.
The volcano could refer to passion, but doesn’t (at least in my work). But if you ask about a volcano, up it comes. Next to Tower, and you have the eruption; and Seven of Cups can refer to the clouds or even the pyroclastic flow.
Lastly, Adam and Eve are there with their respective trees. If a question contained anything about the Garden of Eden narrative, then this would apply.

Ace of Cups Benign and Divine, you could say of this Rider Waite Tarot card. It stylizes the idea of channeling the presence of God, bodily. The dove and the wafer and the ‘W’ above and around the cup which holds a fountain (out of which emanate five streams: five senses or five bodily fluids) express this idea. As I explained before, Tarot’s reintroduction in the West came wrapped in accommodations that un-demonized it, so people could use it and still keep their heads. Today, it’s love, cooperation, health, being a softie or affectionate, love life, easy, attracted and well liked.

Moon Here we have the Left-hand Path, with its symbols. The full moon illuminates a coyote and dog howling together (coyotes kill and eat dogs), a purple lobster going on a land journey, two towers associated somehow with evil … a bad scene that could be titled the road to hell (Left-hand Path). So Moon means horrible, wrong, sickness, vice, the worst, evil …. “The worst card in the deck.” On a good day, in good company, it can just mean night or inspiration, the muse.
Knight of Wands is ‘getting out of Dodge’ or pursuing – either one. He looks more like he is fleeing: See his expression, and the fact his horse is rearing up? Today he usually means ‘get out of,’ fast, chase and pursue.
Three of Cups Sharing good times with good people. Profiting from one’s labor and sharing its proceeds with coworkers. Depicted are girls sharing the harvest of their farm they have worked on together. They also are socialites, or party girls you meet on that road we speak of.
Wheel of Fortune Chance and opportunity are its frequent phrases. Miraculous, miracle, wonderful and lucky are runners-up. Today we have some newish ones: greater things, silver lining, best thing we ever, something good happen, best time, pays off handsomely, best days and gambling. It isn’t meaning ‘destiny’ today. The illustration is as occult as Moon’s: The wheel (presumably of reincarnation) has the Hebrew Name of God (which figures prominently in some forms of magic), and ‘ROTA,’ an occult word. (Promise I’ll look it up someday.) It has various occult creatures, several of whom have books. That red lizard is a bad guy that William Burroughs wrote about, I think.

Temperance A barefoot angel pours liquid back and forth between two cups, standing in a shallow pool with wings outstretched. We have the path to the rising sun and the blue mountains that recall to us Ace of Pentacles. This is a hastily added Middle Ages card that is about diluting wine. The symbols on his chest indicate this is a healing angel.
But this card’s meaning in Tarot Verbatim is intimate partnership or equal partnership, deal or transaction, direct one-on-one hand-to-hand contact. Today the accent is on partnership because of the sharing of profits and pooling of resources expressed in Three of Cups.
Knight of Wands is running out of town in a hurry, although he can mean hot pursuit as well. The salamanders and red hair indicate an impulsive macho energetic dude with a temper. He is in a hurry: That is the main emphasis of Knight of Wands. That is the meaning we concentrate on in today’s messages.
Five of Swords is largely someone you would like to exclude from your life and not be like. This is the smart alec, the bully, the fellow who takes foul advantage of friends and is cruel – you know, ‘the guy who takes his half of the road down the middle.’
The story of the scene is that he had swordplay with friends, and then claimed their swords (and their assets, per knighthood’s rules) as if it were a real fight, when he won. I met lots of this type as a court reporter in the drug and real estate boom in south Florida. They tend to have that same expression on their faces as we see on the Tarot card.
Most of the bad cards have their good side, and this one can simply mean to beat something (say an ailment) or to take advantage of an offer instead of a person.
Three of Cups The girls pooled their money and shared their labor and are now sharing the profit of the farm. Camaraderie, celebration, profit, trust, girls together, party girls, sisterhood. Celebration and prosperity too. They can be debutantes.

Hanged Man Illustration depicts that upside-down sensation you get when a new idea disorients you, and the main meaning of Hanged Man is a new idea or recognition or realization. To click with, to get it, eureka, deja vu, to get the urge to, to sense or get a feeling in your gut, an intense feeling. You know as soon as you see, you recognize the type or the pattern.
Another category of meanings for Hanged Man is the subconscious, paranormal perception, visions and envisioning. These arise from the energy depicted around his head: You know, brain afire?
Magician Stands for the male principle of action. Action as opposed to reflection. (Reflection, High Priestess, is the female principle.) He exerts his masculine will in the ritual to create the desired result. Conjugate the verbs of ‘make’ and ‘do.’ That’s Magician. To bring about. To bring it down or concrete it in action. To be the one to do, as in ‘do it yourself.’ It also sometimes means ‘myself.’ It sometimes means ‘he’ or ‘I.’ That would be the doer of the action.
Three of Cups emphasizes the idea that women pool resources and efforts cooperatively, and amicably share the profits. The girls get together and enjoy one another’s company. Hermit He is on the road, moving, carrying his light, traveling at night in the cold mountains, and is in no rush. Hermit is looking for, and coming to, people who have problems to help them, and is wise as well as morally and spiritually superior; he knows how to fix the problem.
Knight of Wands is in a hurry, rushing, running, speeding to or from. He is on the road (overland transport, by vehicle). He is moving fast in the daylight desert heat. He is about traveling, relocating, moving, being transferred, fast progress, pursuing. fleeing from, getting out of Dodge.
Strength applies the solution to the problem before it does any harm. Strength finesses a potential threat or an active one: She makes the mugger buddy up to her. She knows how to handle herself, knows how to fix the problem. She is also about stroking, petting, touch. You see her shutting the mouth of the lion that was attacking and is now purring instead … and not liking it.
Three of Cups is what happens when you have handled all those issues: sharing the good life, content and happy, with like-minded friends. You see the three of them celebrating, still friends after sharing the investment and the labor and the proceeds of the harvest.
EXPLANATIONS:
Each and every ‘Tarot Reading’ sentence you see is a literal interpretation of the four Rider Waite Tarot cards drawn and pictured for today. (The literal interpretation is from the illustration on each card.) These sentences are put together by only combining the phrases of what each cards says. In other words, there are NO “filler” phrases added just to make full sentences, and no psychic ability or spirit guide is ever involved.
*Without a question* in a group reading to focus the answer, the four Tarot cards can mean quite contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no,’ ‘never’ or ‘not.’ These negative modifiers can apply to any one of the other cards.
*Without a question* in a group reading, the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) are more flexible. Whenever you see a pronoun in parentheses, please *feel very free* to substitute another pronoun than the one used. I try to drop pronouns when possible, which, if you’ve noticed, can make for awkward phrasing.
Now in an ‘real’ individual reading, the questioner asks a specific question and thereby supplies at least half the information! In an individual situation, the parties are identified and sometimes a time frame is too. Here, in a group reading we cannot do that and so we get a variety of sentences.
Horoscopes are group readings, too. Astrology is based on someone else’s birth data, though, so a ‘solar’ group horoscope never really solidly applies to you! (Astrologers know this!)
Tarot, on the other hand, is perfectly capable of flexibly addressing any group, including all of the visitors that come to this site. It can also address people you might not even know personally, such as all the people at your job who have a say in whether or not you get a raise.
We have been wondering here lately whether the Tarot Verbatim(TM) sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than they are for people who visit this site only once in awhile or for a short time. The women of the family do it themselves, they know he is on his way out. As soon as he did that, we knew he would be leaving us to fend for ourselves: Yay!

Magician Stands for the male principle of action. Action as opposed to reflection. (Reflection, High Priestess, is the female principle.) He exerts his masculine will in the ritual to create the desired result. Conjugate the verbs of ‘make’ and ‘do.’ That’s Magician. To bring about. To bring it down or concrete it in action. Three of Cups emphasizes the idea that women pool resources and efforts in a co-op and amicably share the profits. The girls get together and enjoy one another’s company. Knight of Wands Three of Cups, Strength, Ace of Swords
To make yourself happy, you have to handle this in a hurry. He has won, he is well on his way to celebrating with the woman who handled some of his obstacles. He went all out for her to be the winner, but she handled things herself. Winning makes you happy, but overcoming gets you going. A forceful hands-on approach to getting problems out of the way quickly wins the day. Put everything you’ve got into overcoming in this pivotal struggle, and you will be so happy. The joy of engaging and defeating the opposition gets your blood moving. She exerts a forceful influence that gets those girls going, and everyone is happy. She is on her way to celebrating victorious living, having overcome even her own resistance. Challenging this woman gets her fighting spirit up: She wins and he leaves the field to her. The girls pool their resources, meet their challenges, and are on their way to the good life. Strong women who stick together win fast. She gets women to go all out in pursuit of prosperity. At first glance, the girls win and the guy flees: It’s a battle. But there’s a lot more going on when you look a little. There’s overcoming a challenge, and getting going or getting one’s blood moving. And the guy can be pursuing victory, not fleeing someone else’s. The girls celebrate, though, that’s for sure. So we have several scenarios, which I unwound in due course. Smack in the middle is the Strength card, which in Rider Waite Tarot is having the character to overcome without a battle, to have such an influence about you that the monster doesn’t want to eat you. It means spiritual overcoming, and the figure who has the lion purring is without question female. Next to her is the Ace of Swords which means victory by force, winning, and challenging. And on the other side of her is the celebrating … girls celebrating a good life, that lovely Three of Cups. On top is the Knight of Wands, putting all his energy into the pursuit … or the flight, depending. These are the pieces that make the messages above. A victory is the direct and main subject of both he Three of Cups and the Ace of Swords. The Strength card is also about overcoming, which is a victory. Women or a woman winning is in the Three of Cups and the Strength card. The idea of going all out for something is in the Ace of Swords and the Knight of Wands. Advice is some battles are won before any blood is on the floor. Advice is to lunge into high gear and grab your win from the opposing factors directly. Exert your influence expertly, surgically, and forcefully but deftly. A sure win is under your hand.

Three of Cups: These girls get together and celebrate; they have pooled their investment and made a whopping profit they share. The harvest is at their feet, and the sky is all blue. Strength: She loves her enemy, you see. She gets on the good side of the monster by having such an influence about her that he doesn’t want to mess with her, so he submits to friendly contact with someone he really would rather eat. You go, girl. Ace of Swords: Win. Victory. Challenge. Totally one way. Those are the meanings we use today anyway, the easiest ones, because there’s the hand with the sword in it that is crowned with victory. Knight of Wands: He is all in a lather getting going out of town in a hurry, or in hot pursuit of something or someone. This is exertion, giving it your all, going all out – today’s emphasis.
A sudden big unexpected win, when losing was a sure thing

Focus is on getting back a lost opportunity. This is your big chance: Take it and run with it, or be the loser. Something wonderful comes along while you are feeling so sad or sorry: Watch for it. A miraculous recovery from his focus on past losses. A miraculous recovery from focusing on past losses. That miracle, to change when you are down, is what you are looking for. He can see his destiny changing as he bounces back from heartsickness. This is the one opportune time to capitalize on that loss. To quit drinking, he focused on making that one thing happen. He knew the loss had to happen to fuel the getaway. Keep your eye on the ball of grand opportunity and reverse that loss. One big chance to turn things around from despondency. A sudden big unexpected win, when losing was a sure thing. One thing on his mind: To snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat. A sudden loss focuses you/him on one thing: the turnaround. This one win makes up for all his losses. Only a miracle can save the day, it’s sooo bad. When you hit bottom like this, luck can change fast. Next is the fast Knight-of-Swords turnaround: Yay! To the left is the dismal depressing sad past you are sorry about, the Five of Miserable Cups. Overall is the focus-on-one-thing Knight of Pentacles. Notice that today’s two spreads have the same message: victory that is coming FAST. Each spread features a dude on a horse hurrying, and each spread ends in a dude on a horse. Three knights in shining armor! Not bad for an eight-card pantheon. Advice is, once again, to seize the day, be looking for that crack of light in the dark tunnel of despair that is the first glimmer of turnaround. It’s coming fast. The Wheel of Fortune is not about finding ten bucks in the grocery store; it is about a pivotal lucky destiny. The concept of capitalizing on a loss may refer to taxes for some visitor here. This second spread is a guy’s perspective; the first one was about a girl’s.

Wah, I’m a big loser and I’ll never get over it, I just look back enveloped in sorrow and sorry. Wheel of Fortune: Miracle. Luck. Destiny. Jackpot. It happens. Grand opportunity/opportune The big chance. Illustration has occult symbols of fate, and a roulette-wheel looking thing in the center. Knight of Swords: The last-minute turnaround strikes, this time right after the jackpot miracle. Can you think of a better place for that? He is pictured full speed ahead brandishing his weapon, eyes on the prize. Knight of Pentacles: He has one thing on his mind, he does. His eye is on the prize, too. And he is a tough guy who will reach out and grab it, not politely at all. You know what they say about thugs like him: It’s good to have him on your side.
