Emperor
Whenever you are established in or at anything, you are Emperor at it. Whenever you are the authority on something, you are Emperor at that. Emperor is daddy, federal government, authority or authorities, the head man or boss – even the rigid hidebound old man or old person – and it’s easy to not stretch that niche of his.
Emperor represents the foundation of something, the finished state, the status quo, ‘the way it is. In numerology, the number four means all that, and Emperor is a four. (The initial Major Arcanae cards parallel some esoteric numerology meanings.)
Page of Pentacles
Page of Pentacles is the ‘I am’ Tarot card, and you see him focusing on one thing that is right before him. ‘Think about it,’ Page of Pentacles says, and also ‘Be it,’ be something. Page of Pentacles often is to pay attention, look, watch, observe and see. He can be a particular thought or opinion at times. Page of Pentacles often translates as pronouns, especially the ‘I’ category, the ‘he’ category and the ‘-self’ category. ‘He thinks’ is a frequent translate for Page of Pentacles. As a person, he is young, often male, he is the junior, and is the type (This card means that phrase!) to fit in and be welcome, or the type other cards designate for him.
Eight of Pentacles
This is one of the easy what-you-see-is-what-you-say Rider Waite/Tarot Verbatim™ cards. You see the carpenter in work clothes at his bench making one identical pentacle after the other. These are Eight of Pentacles’ most used terms: work, workplace, what a person is doing – especially doing over and over, one after the other, keeping at it.
|
Now Without The Pictures
|
Emperor is established at something – almost anything, he is ‘an old hand’ at it. This is a branch off his ‘Establishment’ meanings, of course. Page of Pentacles is the ‘I am’ Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim™, and it also is about thinking and feeling – perspectives and opinions. Eight of Pentacles is the leading card for anything and everything about work and workplace, doing something; and it means to do a routine, to keep at it. We have stories.
You see Page of Pentacles in the middle as the ‘I am’ concept. Behind him, it’s ‘I am an old man; I am experienced, I am senior’ as well as ‘I am the boss.’ Emperor. Ahead (or to the right) of him, it’s ‘I am a worker; I know what I’m doing; watching work; keeping one’s mind on work or on what one is doing; being the junior worker.’ Eight of Pentacles.
Page of Pentacles and Eight of Pentacles also mean these things: watching what you are doing, mental work, watching something being done; you are the one for the job or it’s your job; working on myself; looking for a job; think again, self-employed, one idea after another.

Nine of Cups – He is an anchor card because his meanings are few, well-defined, and relate to other cards comfortably. Core meanings for Nine of Cups is first what it is famous in Tarot-land for: your wish is granted, you have what you want or get what you want, or you are what you want to be. Here’s this chubby fella with a big ol’ grin on his face because he drank and ate it all: The empties are behind him.
.
So Nine of Cups has that satisfied, safunsified, fulfilled feeling, and it is about pleasure and enjoying. “I like it like that,” “Things are going my way.”
.
Nine of Cups supports a wealth theme. Today it refers to ‘well paid.’ But it is support; it seldom appears by itself to mean an individual is wealthy, just that he or she (or they or we) is feeling good and enjoying life, and has plenty.
Page of Pentacles – A young fellow stares intently at what he holds before his face. Page of Pentacles is an identity card; it means pronouns, and it means a person, or ‘a person who.’ The other main meaning for him is to think, to believe, to have an opinion, to know, and ‘to feel that.’ Its emphasis is on the individual and on thinking. That includes being a student of something and observing, seeing, learning about it.
.
Page of Pentacles sometimes emphasizes looking at (whatever). He can be a witness, as can Hermit.
Eight of Pentacles – Here’s a carpenter at his workplace doing what carpenters do: hammering. He is making identical items over and over, persistently.
.
Eight of Pentacles is an anchor card because its meanings are few and are well-focused, and they easily relate to other cards’ meanings. Anchor cards are worth their weight in gold because they give you clarity in several ways. First, they give you an immediate heads-up as to what your spread may be about, and you see what other cards’ meanings most likely are, and you save a lot of time that way.
.
The first meaning for Eight of Pentacles is anything to do with job, work, employment, task, and what a person does for a living. Next, Eight of Pentacles means all forms of the verb ‘do.’ Eight of Pentacles is the person who does the hands-on part of an enterprise, for example. It shares all the ‘do’ meanings of Magician, so look for one of these two cards when you see the other, and your reading will probably be about something getting done.
.
The other main meaning for Eight of Pentacles emphasizes the fact that the carpenter does the same thing over and over. So Eight of Pentacles means to persist, ‘over and over,’ one at a time, each and every time, to keep at it (whatever it is), and similar words and phrases.

Tarot Verbatim
GUIDANCE One person who makes a consistent effort makes all the difference. Before you put your hand to turning things around, or becoming a new you, think it out. Change, we are saying, is work, and we compare it to what happens on a job. How you think about your job makes all the difference too. You can do some of your best thinking while commuting to and from your job. But sometimes the change happens and, in hindsight, we realize ‘I’m doing things differently now! That is usually a good thing.

Now, Part Two,
Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim™ thing works? If so,
*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing section below. This tells about the combined three pictures in the Tarot Readings – the pictures above here. It explains how these three cards get together in your mind to make the messages. HERE ARE PHRASES FOR ALL THREE 2-CARD COMBINATIONS is a stream-of-consciousness bridge to your subconscious if you use it regularly – people report.
*Go to Learn Tarot by Pictures. It is what each of the three cards, by itself, has to say. It shows you how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in today’s Spread. All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim™.
You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim™ works.
This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contradictions – and also the pronouns are more flexible. If it feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ and you’re a ‘she,’ feel free to adopt it anyway.

Page of Pentacles – Knight of Swords – Eight of Pentacles
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
.
………………….…………………… Page of Pentacles is thinking and being. Knight of Swords is changing, going in a different direction, and moving or rushing. Eight of Pentacles is work and consistent effort. So you see our theme is thinking about the change and working on it. With Page of Pentacles meaning ‘self,’ the theme is about changing yourself, too.
………………………….. Page of Pentacles is a student, a young introspective self-conscious person (usually a guy) who observes, thinks, considers – and this is one of the ‘identity’ cards that will translate ‘I am’ whatever the subject of the card it attaches to is. For example, Page of Pentacles and Knight of Swords say ‘I am in a hurry’ and ‘I am the one who does the rush’ (the rush jobs, when you add Eight of Pentacles). These two Tarot cards also say ‘mind racing,’ ‘think fast.’ You see a well-dressed young person examining the pentacle he holds up to his face.
………………………….. Knight of Swords, as you can see, is about moving-on-out, speeding, pursuit. He can be turning around (a U-turn or a drastic change), and he can sometimes be fleeing if the cards around him decide on that. Knight of Swords is one of the cards that says ‘fast progress’ too. Knight of Swords also is about emergency, and can translate ‘instant’ at times.
………………………….….. Eight of Pentacles is, as you can see, about work: There’s the carpenter busily making one identical pentacle after another. Consistent effort, and step by step are meanings that belong to Eight of Pentacles. This Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim™ also refers to labor in any way: as a budget item, a political stance, as ‘the people who work there’ and so on.
……………………… Page of Pentacles and Knight of Swords Page of Pentacles and Knight of Swords say ‘I am making a change, ‘I am changing myself,’ ‘I change my mind,’ ‘I am watching (them) go by,’ as well as the meanings regarding fast thinking that we discussed already.
………..………….. Page of Pentacles and Eight of Pentacles Page of Pentacles and Eight of Pentacles combine the idea of looking, being, or thinking with the idea of work, consistent effort, or one thing after another being done. This produces ‘watching people work,’ ‘thinking about my job,’ ‘mental work,’ ‘think again,’ ‘my job,’ and ideas about work.
………..…………… Knight of Swords and Eight of Pentacles Knight of Swords and Eight of Pentacles combine the concepts of rush, traveling back and forth (commuting), change, or turnaround with the subject of work, consistent effort, the workplace, and the actual hands-on doing of anything. So you immediately see ‘rush job,’ and ‘one emergency after another’ and changing things at work or changing the way something is done.
We are talking about deliberately making different sorts of changes, turning things around, and also becoming a new self. This is a process, a consistent effort: This is work. Our big point is to think, consider and deliberate about where you are going with this effort, about where it is taking you. How you think about your job makes a world of difference, too. We suggest you can find time to think in your commute to and from work. And we remind ourselves that mental work is work.

Guidance Perspective rules: The relationship of what you think to what you do. You decide to avoid doing the usual thing in the routine way, and you do it your own unique creative way. Or, you see that ‘you ain’t doin’ it right’ and follow the instructions. Or you see you are not doing right in the moral sense, and change your ways. The choice is whether to depart from the usual, the routine, the proper the orthodox. Neither choice is preferable or right all the time.

First keep the usual ways to do this in mind, and then depart from there!
Most importantly, just avoid doing what everybody else is doing.
Getting yourself/himself out of mindsets is the first order of importance.
He isn’t doing what the average macho guy does anymore.
When you get past the phase of how it’s supposed to be done, you focus on your own way to do it.
He deliberately avoids doing the usual things.
A whole different perspective or ‘slant’ on doing the same thing.
Yes, he makes up his mind to depart from the norm.
He studiously avoids rote actions or rituals.
Keep your mind on what you are doing, avoid protocol (doing it the usual way).
He is a tough guy whose actions are out of the ordinary.
Tarot Readings: Go Straight from now on (Six of Swords and Hierophant)
Now that that’s over, you know the right way to do it!
Think about how it will look (your reputation) before you do it.
He comes to realize he isn’t doing what he is supposed to anymore.
Yes, you know this is not the way it’s supposed to be done.
He is deciding from now on to go straight (do what is acceptable).
He sees the proper way to go to get it done.

We have four unrelated cards, no theme, but they express pretty much the same thing. Knight of Pentacles is focus, the most important, deliberately. Magician is acting, doing. Both these cards are very male oriented.
Then we have putting it behind and going off in another direction, or avoiding (Six of Swords). Then we have Hierophant (pope) – the usual way, orthodoxy, protocol, the way it’s supposed to be or is accepted.
The main idea you get from this cafeteria is to do it your own way and avoid protocol, to have a different idea. But of course it reads the reverse way as well – to quit what you are doing and do right or do (it) the right way.
The moral of the story here is: Perspective rules.
LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES
.
Knight of Pentacles is focus, to have one thing on your mind, the most important. It is also deliberate, aforethought. As a person, this is a touch guy, a macho man. This is the short dark fella on the short dark horse.
Magician is the male principle: action. Conjugate the verb ‘to do,’ and go on with the verb ‘make.’ To bring about, to bring down. Illustration is the male magician in the act of making something happen (or not happen) with his wand.
Six of Swords is to head off out of here for a better life, another direction. To avoid. We aren’t using its other meanings today. Illustration in Rider Waite Tarot is a mother and child leaving a bad scene with the help of a friend who has a boat.
Hierophant It’s all about behaving, doing right, following procedures, ritual, rote, the way things are supposed to be, the rigid mentality. The picture is the pope which is what ‘Hierophant’ means.
EXPLANATIONS: [Use the arrow at lower right to skip this and go to Comments.]
All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim(TM).
In these group readings, there’s no question (and no Questioner) to limit what the four cards can mean, so they can mean opposite things.
When there is a negative-meaning card (a ‘negator,’ I call them), the readings contradict one another because that card can make any of the other cards in the spread negative. Negator cards mean things like: no, never, not, end, can’t, etc. Never be queasy about the number of ‘bad’ card because it takes two bad cards to say ‘not dead’ and only one to say ‘dead.’
Without a question or a Questioner, pronouns (I, you, he, she, we, they, etc.) are very flexible. I leave out pronouns in writing this as much as possible – awkward to do that sometimes. When I put them in parentheses, feel very free to change them around to suit yourself.
Now in a ‘real’ individual reading, the questioner asks a specific question which provides at least half the information! In an individual’s reading, the parties are identified and sometimes a time frame is too. Here, in a group reading, we cannot do that and so we get more variety of sentences.
Horoscopes are group readings, too. Astrology is based on someone else’s birth data, though, so a ‘solar’ group horoscope never really solidly applies to you! (Astrologers want you to know this!)
Tarot successfully addresses the group of visitors, whoever they are. It provides useful information that applies to their daily lives: They tell you this in the comments, for three years now. Tarot can tell you things about people you don’t know personally – such as whoever on your job has a say in your raise or continued employment there, whether that is one person or many. Visitors report that the information is equally accurate for new visitors as it is for the family of regular visitors.
Do you want to read Rider Waite Tarot, yourself? Start with Learn Tarot by Pictures to get the day’s cards’ individual meanings; then read Learn Tarot by Observation, which gives you the thinking those four cards inspire in a qualified reader. Next, Group Analytical Tarot Cards Reading is the various things those four cards can say (without a question to guide them). Then, Guidance is a summary.
In this way, your intuition allows you to learn to read the cards without much effort if you come often enough. Regular visitors can just put it together.

Guidance Re dark-night-of-the-soul times: The way a desperate person looks at his downside determines what if anything he does in that moment about the situation. Determination, when we are weak, focuses what resources we do have on doing something that just-maybe can turn the situation around. Determination bypasses the paralysis that despair can bring on. In bad times, it’s a person’s focus or attitude, or the way he characterizes (within his own heart) a terrible fix, that either attracts paralysis or gets him doing something – anything – rather than doing nothing.

This is an interesting bunch! Here are THE two cards that mean to focus, to have an idea, and one’s identity. Page of Pentacles is a person’s image, a person’s self-image, to think, the thought, to be; and Knight of Pentacles is to concentrate, to focus on one thing or concept, to be tough and manly.
Then we have poverty, and the job. Poverty is the Five of Pentacles in Rider Waite Tarot, and it means to be ashamed, to be lacking or inferior, to be ill, to be downtrodden or pathetic, specifically to be blighted in consciousness. To be numb with despair.
The job is Eight of Pentacles, and it also means to keep at it, to do one thing after another, to be a workingman or working class, and steady effort.
Knight of Pentacles is determination and strength; Five of Pentacles is self-pity and weakness.
Knight of Pentacles is determined, and Eight of Pentacles is persistent.

Five of Pentacles is living at the depths of despair, being in dire want, self-pity, dark night of the soul, being homeless, lonely or in grief. It is also about being sick, handicapped or having that worthless feeling that accompanies clinical depression. It is about not knowing the cure anymore you are so engrossed in the disease. Pictured are a mother and son injured and freezing walking past a cathedral that would have food and warmth for them. Are these the same people in Six of Swords who escape from the bad scene?
Page of Pentacles is a person’s image, a person’s self-image, to think, the thought, to be. He or she is the student or apprentice looking to please others, looking to learn – the student. The illustration in Rider Waite shows a young person focusing his or her mind on the pentacle at hand.
Knight of Pentacles is a similar card in Rider Waite to its preceding Page. He means to be determined (‘one thing on his mind’), to concentrate, to focus on one thing or concept, to be tough and manly. His illustration shows a tough short sturdy dark fellow on a tough short sturdy dark horse.
Knight of Pentacles is working on it, a workingman, keeping steadily at it or being persistent, repetitive action, doing the same thing over and over again. His illustration shows a workingman making the same item over and over again, persistently.
