Star
This shapely nude is enthusiastically performing a nighttime ritual bath, singing, and pouring from pitchers into the ablution (bathing) pond. You could say this is a stellar performance. Star eloquently performs the ritual. Star is yet another communication (tell/say/talk/speak) theme card. Star is about ‘pouring your guts out,’ blurting out, or even talking too much, babbling on. Star is promises, presentations and sales pitches too. Star praises, encourages, and cheer-leads. When you sing in the shower, it’s a Star day.

Queen of Pentacles is competent, skilled, talented, and associated with money – hers and other people’s, as an investor, a contributor, even as a bookkeeper. This is the card for the possessive woman – expressed by the way she possesses that pentacle. She babies her man, dotes on him.
Today we use two of Queen of Pentacles’ translates: the care-taker, and the talented woman who can do for you, who makes money. We mention the bookkeeper once, and the possessive lady once.
Ace of Cups
Ace of Cups is one complex illustration. This is a Roman Catholic concept of Holy Spirit infusing the consciousness of a human, flowing through that person into the group mind of humans in general. Here’s how the elements of the illustration say that: The dove is Holy Spirit. It has the wafer of the Communion ritual in its beak. The ‘W’ means something too. The five flows are the five senses that go into the ocean of mass consciousness.
So Ace of Cups has all sorts of spiritual and religious applications. Today it’s just ‘love’ and ‘good’ except for saying trusted, cooperating, easy, and approval.

Eight of Wands – means talk, and phrases and words like: lots of, more and more, many. It means a list or lists of things, and it even means ‘things.’ Meaning ‘a lot of things’ includes ‘everyone’ or ‘everybody,’ and phrases like ‘all of them.’

You see these items, the limbs, flying through the air one above the other like a list, making lines. This is how Eight of Wands comes to mean ‘quickly’ and its synonyms.

Eight of Wands means information; it means data; it means language. It goes as far as to mean the writer, the writing of it, and the detail.

Eight of Wands adds suffixes like ‘-er,’ ‘-iest,’ and ‘-ier’ and it also adds an ‘s’ or other plural form to its neighbors. Eight of Wands means ‘over and over again,’ means ‘another’ and means ‘to repeat,’ too. This is the only card in Rider Waite that specifically means writing, written form, text or a document.

Eight of Wands is a speak/talk/tell/say theme card. That’s one of its most frequent translates. Today, in tandem with Star, we are talking about a lot of talk, and talking about a lot of talk about a lot of things. Yeah, these two cards bounce off each other!
Star – Star’s illustration is a nude shapely lady who pours small jugs into the pond as she bathes in it and sings for all to hear. Many religions have ritual cleansing that involves water and words. Star’s meanings arise from the elements in this scene.

Star features spoken communication, feeling good, being happy, being in great health, looking good (she’s a shapely lady), and enthusiasm. Think of Star as a cheerleader: appreciation and encouragement – rah-rah. So star is confessing how you feel, praising or being praised, encouraging or being encouraged, telling all about it, telling everyone enthusiastically, singing, talking flowery or talking blarney (or both), saying ‘I love you,’ being crazy about someone (or something, actually), saying your lines as, say, a salesperson, performing, even spilling your guts or tattling. Star ends up being a love card with all this good feeling and confession of it.

As the singer and performer, Star is a creative person. And all that ‘telling’ brings in language. So Star is creative with language – a creative writer, when you add the ‘written form’ of Eight of Wands.
Queen of Pentacles – Queen of Pentacles, outdoors on her throne and surrounded by fertility – the growing things and the bunny – represents being capable of contributing to the scene you are in, and doing so. Watch for this card to simply translate ‘she can’ or ‘she is able’ or ‘a capable, talented woman.’

Think of Queen of Pentacles as Earth Mother, the caretaker. This brings her, as the other half of King of Pentacles (the charismatic mover-and-shaker dude), to being the loyal backer of her man – which extends, of course, to being the loyal backer of her family and scene. The pentacle in her lap associates her with money, which makes her the finance person – the money manager, the investor, the backer and mentor of an endeavor, the bookkeeper.

But it isn’t limited to finance: Queen of Pentacles is a manager; she runs the show, wherever the show is, whether it’s a family, a family business, a company she is part of, or an agricultural scene (see the picture).

Queen of Pentacles is capable, competent, talented, skilled. She is a resource for successful endeavors, enterprises, outcomes and other people – so, yes, she is a successful woman herself – say, the vice-president. She is the perfect mentor.

Star – Think of Star as those times you get carried away when you are speaking (or expressing yourself in any other way). Words just flow out of you and you feel energetic involvement in the moment. You find this concept that spiritual living insulates a person from physical hazards in two other Rider Waite Tarot cards: Fool and World. Each has a different perspective on the subject. Strength is about preventing problems – stopping them before they happen – and is about being able to handle, to finesse even, a situation.

Main meanings for Strength are just that: to overcome without a battle, or a conflict, or a clash or a confrontation. Think ‘you don’t mess with him/her.’ Think a martial artist traipsing through the ghetto unscathed because he or she has that air of ‘I can handle it.’

Main words for Strength are: handle, overcome, solve or solution, prevent, assert. Strength is the lead card for quashing or silencing opposition because in the picture here Strength is closing the lion’s mouth and he isn’t roaring.

Strength is also about overcoming your internal demons – your bad habits, whatever holds you back, your moods – whatever is an enemy within the gates, so to speak – fears of any sort, etc. Strength is ‘working on myself.’ A spiritual overcoming is Strength’s main theme.

When you think of the perfect squelch to a situation and are ready for it to happen again … it doesn’t. Between the lines, we see what a good life we all would have if we cared for one another and told the truth (Star is tell, Hermit is truth.). Along with the ‘caring for one another’ theme, we have medical care (Hermit) as being devoted to a cause, a charity, not just being devoted to the person. Interesting. The feeling good theme expands a little to include watching (Hermit)a live performance, and being happy you have a bookkeeper and financial advice (Queen of Pentacles, of course).
Star means good health and Hermit is a healer. Hermit brings the truth and Star tells the good news.

Star is literally the star of a performance, easily singing (but she stands for oral communication of any kind, so speeches, lectures, chanting, sales pitches, explaining, confessing, saying ‘I love you,’ calling up and chatting, blabbering – anything verbal). Star’s main meaning is enthusiasm and love – ‘crazy about.’ Star is upbeat; it’s about joy and feeling good, and, so, being in vibrant health. Magician
Just do it. Magician is the act of doing. It does not include the thinking (if there was any). Magician, esoterically, is ‘the male principle’ of action. It often simply means ‘he’ and it means any form of the verbs ‘do’ and ‘make,’ and their paraphrases such as ‘bring about.’ Another meaning is to initiate or start something, or take the initiative, and such phrases as ‘prompt to.’ We see a male magician, arm raised to make his will happen.
Queen of Pentacles
She sits outdoors in spring, symbols of fertility around her (a bunny, even), with a giant gold object (coin) in her hands. A woman of many talents and great competence devotes herself to others, most often her man or her family. She is the matriarch, she is the backer, she is the caretaker, she really cares for and is devoted to someone, often her man or family. She is usually the passionate emotional loyal type, the patriot of whatever clan she is part of.
Star
Good vibrations, singing in the shower, that high you feel when you are recovering from an illness and are healthy now: That is what Star is celebrating. Star unites language and performance as well as the good feeling, so Star can be a singer or musician or actor performing beautifully. Hanged Man represents the subconscious becoming conscious, and how upside-down that feels to the physical side of the human. His hair is on fire, and he is upside down.
