Strength – Ace of Cups
She renders the opposition harmless.
*Strength means this all my itself.
Ace of Cups is being harmless: “All benefit and no harm,” so it is redundant, is strong emphasis.

GUIDANCE He is a good person who doubts whether he can handle shutting down some opposition. He also finds himself wondering what effect the woman he loves has on him. “She is influencing me to cooperate, but I don’t know how she does that.” He wonders how smoothly it would go if he can get her to take full charge, quietly, and effect some solutions to these problems. “Will I still be a good person if I shut down the opposition that way?”

Strength – You have an air about you that influences other people’s behavior when you are around. That air represents who you are on the inner plane. Strength applies this to a spiritually mature person – an assertive judgmental personality who has a lot of experience dealing with others. ‘Knows how to handle him/herself’ is a phrase we use for this phenomenon. ‘Someone you don’t mess with’ is another. Have you noticed that we are all on our best behavior when certain people are present? (I call that type of person The Kindergarten Teacher, for The Look such people have.)
.
In the picture, the lion intends to interrupt, attack, or disrupt the woman whose dress and accessories indicate she is a spiritual adept: the lemniscate halo above her head that is a symbol of eternity, of perpetual action; her white robe; the fresh flower garland she wears. She isn’t confronting the beast but stands by its side. Her bare hands are above and below its snout, shutting up the roar. He purrs instead! She is handling the threat so that it cooperates. (You see this same principle in a different perspective in Chariot, the Tarot card before Strength.)
.
This principle of Force of Personality acts on its own in various other ways. Here are some examples: Some people can get away with murder. Some people are invisible; they never get noticed. Some people are never blamed or accused of their mischief: People say someone else made them do it (and this phenomenon usually starts in childhood). Some people are never called upon to do their part because they are fundamentally lazy to the bone (just decorative). Some narcissistic people succeed at attaching themselves to a victim and mooching ridiculously.
.
Another fascinating example of the Force of Personality is the way people who are out to do harm instinctively avoid people who either/or can defend themselves, or are themselves looking for a tussle. (Muggers avoid women who are in deep PMS.)
.
So Strength is about overcoming, influencing, handling, taking full charge, and fixing or preventing – and doing this ‘before the fact’ (before any action occurs). The Strength card suggests you do this, or tells you you can do it.
.
Let’s apply these Strength concepts, and give examples of phrases, shall we? Influencing: make them; she influences me; the effect _ has on him; she can get him to; is getting the best of you.
.
Overcoming: overcome your vice; is overcoming; she makes overcoming look; shut down the opposition.
.
Handling: that woman who can handle anything; you can handle this situation; how to handle threats to; the way you handle this; can handle this challenge.
.
Taking full charge: to take full charge; act assertive; you are so much stronger that the opposition; a dominant woman; an assertive dame; any woman will be too pushy; your own strength; she will turn him every way but loose.
.
Strength is all about solution, and that word comes to Strength in your spreads. Strength is also all about prevention of harm, and risk management. When Strength appears with a Tarot card that means harm of some kind, Strength nullifies its harm.
Seven of Pentacles – Seven of Pentacles expresses that air of uncertainty that permeates some situations: You Just Don’t Know. You have questions … and no answers to them. This is pretty much all there is to Mr. Seven of Pentacles so he is an anchor card (one whose meaning is clear and limited, so it gives an early hint of what your spread is saying). Here are some of these uncertainty, not sure, don’t know phrases from our Seven of Pentacles in this spread: Not sure I can; I don’t know how ; What … me from … anyway?; Can I get; When you are unsure of yourself; and he doesn’t know why; Not so sure; you don’t know.
.
And here are some question marks phrases from today’s spreads: How can he get;
can’t you?; that is the question; is the iffy part; So who … anyway?; How _ can I; Do I; Will I still be _ if I.
.
Seven of Pentacles expresses the feeling you have as you wonder and try to figure out something, forming an opinion. Here are the phrases today that express that: figuring out how to; figure the way to; he wonders what; he suspects; he figures; and imagines; You figure this out. Sometimes Seven of Pentacles just says ‘Hmm.’
.
Especially as a Self card in Celtic Cross, Seven of Pentacles is self-doubt. And Seven of Pentacles also often translates ‘maybe’ and ‘somehow.’
.
All his meanings directly relate to the gardener who has done the labor that has grown that bush, but will not know whether it bears fruit until after it blooms and the blossoms set because this plant is gendered: It needs a bush of the opposite gender nearby enough for a bee to visit both.
Ace of Cups – This illustration is entirely symbolic, so its meaning isn’t at all apparent, other than that you see a flow and a dove. If you are familiar with Roman Catholic ritual, you will relate to the wafer the dove has in its beak as it dives into the fountain, and you may deduce some of Ace of Cups’ meanings from that.
.
So here goes. A lot of Ace of Cups’ meanings arise from a passage in literature that is expressed by this illustration – a passage that is famous to the subject of mysticism. Saint Teresa d’Avila’s tome, Interior Castle, talks of a person’s connection to God (to God’s love, God’s mercy, etc.) as a fountain forever full because it is replenished, and it spills and flows through the person’s five senses out into the world. The dove represents Holy Spirit, and in its beak is the wafer of Holy Communion, a Christian ritual. Saint Teresa is one of the major saints. She is considered the premiere author in Western mysticism by authorities in that subject.
.
So Ace of Cups is about love and unconditional love, flow, God, any good and beneficial thing, mass consciousness, being spiritual and the spiritual life, virtues, good health, love and the person or people (you) love, approval. The flow expands to cooperating, ease, easy, things going well, harmless, things going smoothly.

Once again, we have two cards that share a similar groove, and between them is one that is unrelated to the theme. Strength and Ace of Cups are about the workings of spirituality.
.
Ace of Cups is about the pervasive spread of goodness (of God’s presence via Holy Spirit) through one person to others. It is about people catching the good spirit from others who are infected with it. It is also being a good person (even a too-good person), good things, benefits, and things that go smoothly and are easy.
.
A person who is established in spiritual living has encountered blocks and oppositions and knows how to handle them easily and smoothly. He or she has applied solutions so many times it’s become second-nature. There’s an unwritten code in events that decrees that, when you know how to handle a problem, the problem quits presenting itself to you. You will get the amount of aggravation on planet Earth that you are willing to put up with, even if you won’t put up with any. You think of the perfect squelch, and you never get to use it … every time. ‘Next time she says that, I’m gonna’ … and there is no next time. ‘Next time some idiot in traffic does that …’ and you drive the same commute for years, never to have anyone do that again. Go figure. But it’s true. THIS is what Strength is all about in the real where-the-rubber-meets-the-road world. The perfect squelch acts as prevention.
.
The middle card today means to question, to wonder, to doubt, to figure out – don’t know, and not so sure, as well as ‘ maybe’ and ‘ somehow.’ This gives us stories for today’s message – stories about being bigger than what you face, about having victory against opposition without engaging in open battle.

Nine of Wands Ace of Pentacles, Ace of Cups, Strength
Love Perspective: *He is afraid she will succeed at getting him to love her. *The right way is the easy way to handle the guy who tries to intimidate you. *She pressures him to cooperate and do it right. *Being loving is the perfect way to prevent him from from being defensive. *She soothes his fears, she handles the situation right. *She has a soothing touch as he worries about being a success. *She has a soothing touch as he worries about money. Practical Perspective: The best way to handle fear is to let it be. It’s easy to handle this perfectly, and you were so nervous about it. You were worried about this, but you do it easily and perfectly. Health Perspective: She overcomes what threatens her perfect health. Her health is perfect because she overcomes all threats.
Oh, today is a blessed day, you have the touch, things are easy to accomplish, especially the things you were apprehensive about. You handle it beautifully, especially the part you feared would be difficult. I bet you can even assemble one of those bicycles from China today!
With Ace of Pentacles and Ace of Cups as the first two Tarot cards, you can’t go wrong: They mean perfect love, they mean easy success, even easy money at times.
The Ace of Pentacles shows the right path, the achievement of success: The hand with the money in it over a straight easy road to a garlanded arc de triomph type structure. Whereas the Ace of Cups shows a flow of spiritual water meaning the five senses channeling divine health and energy. Not a bad start, huh? Next we have the Strength card, which in Rider Waite means overcoming by spiritual superiority, strength of character, and expert touch, deft handling, and so on. Its illustration shows a woman whose white robe and symbol of infinity over her head mean spiritual superiority and purity of character. She is making the lion who wants to attack her purr, shutting his mouth deftly. Good for her! Then our last character is the Nine of Wands: fear, apprehension, tension, nervous about what is going to happen. Here is the border guard wounded from the last attack suspecting there will be another. The Strength + Nine of Wands suggests overcoming fear, doesn’t it? The Ace of Cups + Strength is the easy touch, isn’t it?
Four of Wands Emperor, Knight of Pentacles, Sun
Love/Marriage Perspective: He aims to be a happily married stable man. A fun marriage is important to his personal security. He aims to be a fun guy at home even when he is old.
Practical Perspective: Looking at this house, he is delighted: This is a VIP’s house. The boss looks forward to leaving the home on vacation. His idea of being a man is being outdoors in the sun, free. His idea of fun is to be the head man of a place. Finally, we have a spread that is definitely from a man’s point of view! Both the Emperor and the Knight of Pentacles are manly type men: The Emperor from the perspective of being powerful, and the Knight of Pentacles from the point of view of being physically strong and driven .. that ‘one thing on his mind’ thing that some men can get into so well.
The illustrations, of course on each of these Rider Waite Tarot cards express each idea: The Emperor is an older man, sitting on a throne rather rigidly, looking august in his robes. Whereas, the Knight of Pentacles has this butch glare and sports muscles under his tin suit. Even his horse is macho.
The third Tarot card of this spread is the Sun. Just look at the illustration: Delighted kid outdoors in the sunshine, leaving the house. The feeling of a fun vacation. (Yes, this card has a number of other applications that don’t count and aren’t being used here.) And the last is the Four of Wands, the marriage card that refers to the solid citizens of the community, and shows a mansion and a celebration. It shows the kind of house that would make the kind of man the Emperor is feel right at home in his position of power.
