Guidance |
We picture the dynamics of two stereotype couples here. One is the woman who has ‘worked on herself,’ as we say, and the love of a good man is her reward. The other is an unassuming diplomatic peace-loving kind of guy, or a drinking man, who attracts a strong woman, or even a bossy woman. That’s all, so the one-sentence readings here are repetitious.

Synopsis |
As to romance, we say opposites attract. The dynamics of the woman who wades in and straightens things out being with the man who is on the passive side is one example of opposites attracting. We all know couples in which this dynamic works beautifully, and couples in which it is not pretty. This is the meat of the message today, although there is minor mention of women in government managerial jobs.

Queen of Wands you can call The Mama, although that applies to her position in the work place as well as the home. She has The Look we are familiar with of an alert female minding the kids. This is a philosophy-of-life kind of look. Queen of Wands is a stereotypical Virgo female. This is a sensible practical woman, a hands-on female who is organized and organizing. She runs a tight ship wherever she is.
Strength is a deep card, one of those you could write books upon. When you solve something inside yourself, it doesn’t present itself in your physical events. Solve it on the spiritual plane, or the mental plane, and it vanishes as a challenge on the physical plane. Try this on for size: You think of the perfect squelch for something that keeps happening. You say to yourself ‘Next time he/she does that, I’m going to do this.’ And you never get to use it: The situation vanishes even though it was chronic before that. Strength is you taking charge and preventing interference, opposition, or attack.
You can think of Strength as the higher octave of Queen of Wands. Strength people have The Look too.
King of Cups is the mild-mannered man. He is peace-loving, passive, calm, and emotional. There’s a spectrum that goes from being the ‘together’ decent emotionally available civilized citizen to being the ineffectual or dull fellow, the lackluster fellow, the mealymouthed wimpy fellow. (Watch for a paired card to say ‘passive-aggressive.’) He can be a clerk in a government job, and, yes, he can be a drinker.
Mostly he is the quiet type, the nice guy or good man, the softie, a quiet sweetheart of a guy who is patient and polite.
Now Without The Pictures |
Notice we have three people here. Queen of Wands is the wife card (because she runs an orderly place and because Four of Wands is the main marriage card) and King of Cups is the calm sweet affectionate guy, is the older Knight of Cups really. King of Cups will appear for a ‘serious drinker.’ ‘In his Cups’ was a euphemism in olden times (Shakespeare, for one) for being drunk. So Queen of Wands and King of Cups are a great couple to be. Strength, here, spoils the soup: She is the assertive or bossy dame. She turns the story into a wife (or ‘his woman’) handling the man’s affairs, fighting his battles, being the dominant partner, maybe bossing him. But Strength also says she solves her own problems by being the sweet guy’s wife. Both stories can exist, of course, at the same time. Well, we picture a quiet guy whose assertive lady is his peace of mind too. That’s all we have to say here – that’s it – except for woman who have government jobs because King of Cups is also bureaucracy or government. P. S. These three also say ‘His mother brought him up to be a gentleman’ but I didn’t think it applies meaningfully to visitors, so I didn’t include it in the one-sentence readings.
Queen of Wands is the good manager, good wife and mother. Check out that look on her face: The mama’s got her eye on you! A flower in one hand and a board in the other. This lady is famous for being organized, for ‘running a tight ship.’ She is hands-on – nothing theoretical or foo-foo about her.
Strength is a higher octave of Queen of Wands; it puts spiritual overtones to the ‘straighten out’ theme. When you have overcome your own internal defects and demons, opposition evades you in physical reality. Solve it in your head, or solve a situation in your spirit, and you have cut off its appearing in your physical environment. Strength here is either rewarded for her internal achievement with the love of a decent man, or is the wife of a man who wants her to handle things for him. She can also be the ‘bossy bitch’ type, though, through the obvious domination Strength has in the illustration.
Strength exerts influence. Strength prevents opposition; Strength applies the solution. You see the woman holding the monster’s mouth shut. (Yes, she can stand for ‘shutting them up,’ or whatever the other pronoun might be.) One of its applications is overcoming weakness or overcoming addictions.
Strength is finessing a challenge. (It can express passing an exam that gives a person the right to practice a profession, for example.)
King of Cups does double duty in the spectrum of good decent loving man to habitual drinker. (Watch this Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim™ apply only to an alcohol habit most often. Other cards will come up for drugging.) He is the fellow with the desk job, the quiet man, the diplomatic man, the peace-loving unassertive fellow, and, yes, he is the affectionate man, the emotionally available man, the calm man. As always, look to the surrounding Tarot cards for the rest of the story.
King of Cups is also government or bureaucracy. That probably comes about by the concept of ‘clerical’ people being passive.
Queen of Wands and Strength Queen of Wands and Strength both involve strong women, women who take charge. Without King of Cups, this story could be women opposing one another. It just doesn’t fit that way in this particular layout. Queen of Wands is straightening out her external environment as a manager of it; Strength is preventing opposition, is straightening out anything that interferes.
Queen of Wands’ got her eye on you; Strength’s got her hands on you. Both are enforcers of decorum.
Queen of Wands and King of Cups Each of these people is at peace with himself/herself. Queen of Wands and King of Cups, as explained in the first paragraph of this section, are a good couple: The sensible woman who runs a household, and the emotionally available affectionate man. These two can also describe the wife of a drinking man.
Strength and King of Cups Strength and King of Cups is the assertive woman and the unassertive man. These two cards describe a woman who has overcome her own internal defects being rewarded with the affection of a decent man. Strength and King of Cups describes either a woman handling her mild-mannered affectionate man roughly, or a woman solving her man’s problems and handling his uneasy situations for him.
