Five of Pentacles – Sun – Ace of Swords

.

HERE ARE THE WORDS THESE CARDS ARE SAYING IN THIS SPREAD.

.

.

Here are Five of Pentacles’ phrases and words: that decrepit house; failures; it’s the poor; in the dark hole; when I was poor; when I feel this bad; your doldrums; hit bottom; I miss; misery; losing everything; bums; lose big; through the worst; when I’m miserable; feeling bad about myself; my depression; debt; cost me dearly; it costs me; its downside; it drains me.

.

Here are today’s main translates, by category, for Five of Pentacles:

.

MISERY, DESPAIR, DRAINED, HIT BOTTOM, BAD TIMES: in the dark hole; when I feel this bad; your doldrums; hit bottom; misery; through the worst; when I’m miserable; feeling bad about myself; my depression; its downside; it drains me

POVERTY, LOSS, HOMELESS, DEBT: it’s the poor; when I was poor; debt; cost me dearly; it costs me; losing everything; bums; lose big;

IN BAD CONDITION: that decrepit house;

LACK, MISSING: I miss;

FAIL: failures;

.

.

ILLUSTRATION:  Been down so long it looks like up to me,’ a song says, and that is where you’re at when you’re Five of Pentacles. You see homeless people without so much as a coat in the ice and snow as they trudge by a church that, back then, had a warm bed and a hot meal for travelers and the poor. They are sick and crippled, and the boy is a leper. Five of Pentacles is when you are so used to your bad situation you are inured to it and do not see, or seek, the way out. Five of Pentacles is about doing without … without any comfort, including being loved.

.

.

Here are Sun’s phrases and words: getting out of; you ducked; kids; being the sunshine; I was happiest; kids; get out and have some fun; joy; to be free; the kid; by riding my horse; that set me free; those kids; I’m happy; upbeat; cheer up; so glad; cheery; get out from under; juvenile; be free; the joy of; I avoid.

.

Here are today’s main translates, by category, for Sun:

.

LEAVING TO BE HAPPY; BE FREE; BE FREE OF RESTRICTIONS; GET OUT OF THE HOUSE: get out and have some fun; to be free; by riding my horse; that set me free; get out from under; be free;

JOY; HAPPY; CHEER; UPBEAT; SUNNY: being the sunshine; I was happiest; joy; I’m happy; upbeat; cheer up; so glad; cheery; the joy of;

CHILD AND CHILDREN: kids; kids; the kid; those kids; juvenile;

TO ESCAPE; GET OUT FROM UNDER; AVOID: getting out of; you ducked; I avoid

.

ILLUSTRATION: Sun is one of the ‘leaving’ theme cards in Tarot Verbatim™. Its specialty in that theme is leaving for fun – like going on vacation – or leaving to avoid some restriction or bad scene. Today Sun is avoiding conflict, and is out from under some bad times or bad scene. Sun is as much joy as Five of Pentacles is despair.

.

.

Here are Ace of Swords’ phrases and words: is an achievement; successes; who make it; is winning; -est; are strong; I’ve got to; this one thing turns; had to; most of all; overcome; is the one thing; absolute; win big; the very (worst); have to; I beat; now that I overcome; have to; rebellion; I gotta, no matter what; combat; conflict.

.

Here are today’s main translates, by category, for Ace of Swords:

.

MUST, HAVE TO, GOTTA: I’ve got to; had to; have to; have to; I gotta, no matter what;

OVERCOME, BEAT, COMBAT, CONFLICT: overcome; I beat; now that I overcome; combat; conflict

ACHIEVEMENT, SUCCESS: is an achievement; successes; who make it;

WIN: is winning; win big;

THE MOST, EXTREMES AND PENULTIMATE: -est; this one thing turns; most of all; is the one thing; absolute; the very (worst);

STRONG: are strong;

DEFY, REBELLION: rebellion;

.

ILLUSTRATION:  Ace of Swords’ picture could not be more obvious about winning, victory, achievement, and conflict. It represents the challenge met, the battle won. It also, a little less obviously, is all about ‘must,’ ‘orders,’ ‘gotta do it,’ and defiance. Ace of Swords is ‘I did it my way.’ It means strength, and it’s about drawing a line-in-the-sand kind of rebellion: ‘Hell no, I won’t go.’

You feel how individual card meanings reach out and blend, unite, into a sentence. (You can learn this – yes, you!) Your subconscious awareness sees the image and its feeling and your conscious awareness sees the language meaning, the text… so your two minds focus together to see 3D, three dimensionally, the same way your two eyes see depth that one eye does not.

Synopsis

Keeping my joy in the bleakest of neighborhoods. Not letting being short of money get to me. Being the light in the dark hole, bringing cheer to those who are suffering, those who are ill. Ducking out gleefully when challenged to some conflict. Being the kid who got out of the ghetto and succeeds maybe because of the ghetto. Stories like that belong to today.

Five of Pentacles

Five of Pentacles

Five of Pentacles’ illustration show a mother and child who are crippled, dressed in thin rags, barefoot in a blizzard. The bell around the child’s neck indicates he has leprosy, in which case the church would not help them (contagion). But one of the main meanings of Five of Pentacles ignores that contingency: Five of Pentacles is being so numb to your bad situation that you don’t even think of relief, you don’t recognize a solution, you just endure it. You stay in prison with the key in your pocket. (You have been there.)

Five of Pentacles is lack, doing without, and deficit. Being homeless, bankruptcy, being sick, feeling sorry (for yourself or others). It can even be wallowing in misery, or a martyr complex, especially with Queen of Swords.)

Once again in our Tarot quest at this site, Five of Pentacles shows up to be resolved, overcome, and even … dare we say? … enjoyed! Enjoy your misery? (We usually enjoy our misery from hindsight, don’t we? – after it is part of a victory story, which is what Ace of Swords is all about.)

Sun

Sun

Sun is having fun, uninhibited and free, ‘kicking up his heels.’ Quite a few meanings arise from the picture of the tyke who sneaks out from under the house rules naked to play on his pony. A lot of them are about escape from restrictions – and the other two cards definitely are restrictions: Five of Pentacles is penury and Ace of Swords is threatening. So this spread is about escaping from hard times, being broke, and bad situations, and bad feelings or illness. Ace of Swords characterizes the escape as an achievement, overcoming, or even a victory.

But Sun is fun. Many of his meanings are about recreation, vacation, joy, having a good time. That brings out ‘the best time of my life was when I was poor,’ with Sun and Five of Pentacles. It brings out the joy of overcoming with Ace of Swords, and the joy of battle too.

Ace of Swords

Ace of Swords

Ace of Swords is the way the movie ends: with a definitive overcoming or victory. Ace of Swords is this definitive card that means all-out winning or all-out defeating. No gray area with Ace of Swords. You don’t find your compromise here. Ace of Swords is one of the cards that means ‘weapon.’ It means threat. It means to give an order, and it means to defy that order. It means enforcement, and it means rebellion. I think of Ace of Swords as a Viking: They gloried in battle, like the Spartans did. Ace of Swords isn’t just winning; it is the winner. See the crown crowned with the laurel leaves of victory? It is that victory you feel all the way to your bone marrow when you overcome something that really held you back – and Sun is about getting free of those restrictions. Ace of Swords is ‘I did it!’ Sun and Ace of Swords say ‘I gotta be free.’

Watch for Ace of Swords to just add the prefixes that mean ‘the most’ (and to mean ‘the most’ literally). Especially ‘strongest.’ It means strength, to be strong.

But I leave out Ace of Swords’ main job: Ace of Swords, most frequently, right on time, says ‘absolute’ and ‘absolutely,’ because it is such an all-one-way card. That is the main thing to remember about Ace of Swords.

Now Without The Pictures

Five of Pentacles is ‘Bums on the Street’ and ‘Dark Night of the Soul, and is about doing without, being sick, feeling unworthy or worthless, being miserable, missing someone or missing out. Five of Pentacles is a deficit, so it is being overdrawn at the bank, or being bankrupt It’s the ghetto too.

Sun is happy and free, so we have a picture of getting out from under bad times. That’s our main theme today. We have a contrast between being happy (Sun) and being miserable (Five of Pentacles).

Sun is the kid, so with Five of Pentacles, he could be a street kid or a poor kid, or could be someone missing the kid who left home – because Sun is a child who sneaks into the yard to cavort with a pony. And Five of Pentacles is missing someone.

Sun is also joy, freedom, being daring and uninhibited, being outdoors, especially on a sunny day. Although Sun is reckless, it does not come up in the context of recklessness have a consequence, strangely enough. Sun is mainly a happy card: It even says ‘happy camper.’

But Sun also means to avoid. In this case, Sun is about avoiding conflict and being happy with Ace of Swords, and is about avoiding poverty and being successful with Five of Pentacles.

Ace of Swords here is an unexpected guest. It speaks of ‘have to’ re escaping (Sun) the bad scene (Five of Pentacles). It says both ‘the joy of battle’ and ‘avoid conflict’ because sun is joy, and is avoiding.

We have stories, mostly upbeat ones.

Tarot Readings for You for June 21, 2014 Saturday(c)

Guidance      We trace the concept of exerting ourselves, of getting up and out and moving around in the sunshine, into throwing ourselves into activity, then into engaging in competition, then fighting for something, and then fighting for dominance … all 360 degrees. The reward can be winning, but also can be the activity itself … you know, the joy of combat. We also cover avoiding conflict. “Being threatened with violence releases my inhibitions,” someone says.

Sun ………. . It’s a beautiful summer day, and the baby, unclothed and yearning to be free, recklessly mounts a pony who is about to put an end to the kid’s fun. Sun’s many trunks of meanings sprout from this illustration and its concepts. Being free, release of restrictions, leaving home, uninhibited, funloving, recreation, vacation, kids, sunshine, the brat, the playboy. Those are the main ones.

.

Five of Wands …………. Five fellows joust with boards in either a competition or a fight, or exercise. Throwing yourself into an activity, getting involved, trying hard, expending effort and energy, conflict, combat and violence – those are Five of Wands’ main meanings.

Ace of Swords………. Winning the war or fight is obviously the subject of an upright sword crowned, and crowned again with laurel leaves. Ace of Swords is an imperative to: Must, have to, gotta, it’s an order, forced to, make them, and so on. Dominance of all stripes.

Our Daily Spread for Jan. 10, 2011

Well, this marriage theme has me puzzled. So I decide to do TWO four-card spreads, to see how similar they are – whether they are both on the theme. I was hoping the first would satisfy the marriage subject, and the second would be directed toward people who aren’t in the throes of marital union. Look at these spreads card by card:  The first card in each (Ace of Swords/Five of Swords) means aggression or asserting oneself vigorously. The second in each (Ten of Cups/4 of Wands) is astounding:  Those are the two positive ‘marriage’ cards in the entire 78-card Tarot deck! The third card in each are a kind of father-son duo (Knight of Pentacles/King of Pentacles). Both are assertive men who are gonna get their way no matter what: the first by force and the second by stealth. The fourth Tarot card in each is SUN/JUDGMENT. Both  refer to a new lease on life, a new phase, a getting-out-from-under. I could not do this kind of card-by-card parallel deliberately for the life of me!

Tarot Reading 1-10-11 pt1

One main thought: Get free, I must marry

Sun

Ace of Swords, Ten of Cups, Knight of Pentacles

One thing on his mind:  to be happy, he must marry (her).
One thing he must do:  get free and have a happy home life/marriage.
Now that he is out of this home and its restrictions, he has one thing on his mind:  He’s got to be happy at home.
I’ve got to be happy, I’ve got to be free:  This is the one important thing.
He feels he must make everybody happy to be happy himself.
Marriage is the one thing on the man’s mind:  He has to be happy.
He is out from under the drive to be the macho strongman, he is part of a happy marriage.

Is this about being happy, or what?  The dude is out from under a former life and is settling into a new life of bliss, he has to.

Tarot Reading 1-10-11 pt 2

He pulls off a new life: married head of household

Judgement

Five of  Swords, Four of Wands, King of Pentacles

He pulls off being married, a new phase of being a powerful studly man.
His chip-on-the-shoulder snarly personality changes when being married gives him a feeling of being important and powerful.
There’s being the smart alec who intimidates, and there’s being the smooth dude who manipulates:  This marriage makes the change in him.
He feels being married means he has arrived, he is the head of household – a big change from having to show people who’s boss.
He asks her to marry him and goes from being taken advantage of to being the man who has money.
Going from being taken advantage of (or abused) to marrying a man who is a leader and makes things happen is a big change.

This emphasizes how much better he feels about himself as a married man.  Marriage is, again, a new life.
