Spiritual Perspective: Connecting and Not connecting (Lovers + World)
Associating yourself with trashy disgruntled people drains and exhausts you unless you have some disconnect, some immunity to their griping quarrelsome ways.
When you are a loving person who connects to God, you have a buffer between yourself and the scenes and the people who are in the dark and are unloving to one another.
When you don’t connect with dark sides and you do connect with what is uplifting, you are in a world of your own invisible to people who would clutter your life with theirs.
Having gone through Dark Night of the Soul, people who are trouble just don’t connect with you, are not in your sphere.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
Five of Pentacles with Ten of Pentacles. Immediately you know this is about the back alley of people who are dysfunctional (Ten of Pentacles) and/or poor and miserable (Five of Pentacles). About being drained or brought down by a bad family life. It is about being broke, being ‘in darkness’ or being in the dark. Wah!
But not to worry: On either side of this sad declaration is World, who has no connection to low-consciousness, and Lovers, who is a connection to higher consciousness.
So this spread is about: Mind your Connections. Connect with what brings you up, and get away from what brings you down.
Notice that Ten of Pentacles represents (in human form) what World is not bothered by, and Five of Pentacles is doing without the light (the enlightenment) that appears in Lovers. Those pairs of cards are saying the same thing in opposite ways.
LEARN TAROT BY THE PICTURES
Lovers Connection. Especially beneficial connections. Someone (guardian angel) is looking out for you. Love is here. There’s Adam with the tree of life and there’s Eve with the snake in her tree. Higher consciousness connects a human to the divine, to God. But there’s that volcano (eruptions of passions) and that snake to deal with.
Five of Pentacles Been down so long it looks like up to me. When you just ‘don’t get it,’ you are poor, and poor in spirit. You don’t even know where your next meal is coming from because you just walked by it without seeing it (illustration). The consequences of poverty are dire, whether physical or spiritual poverty. This Rider Waite Tarot card, in Tarot Verbatim ™ is the opposite of Ace of Pentacles which shows a positive correlation between ‘the right path’ and ‘money in your hand.’
Dark Night of the Soul is a spiritual phase that precedes going into the next level up of consciousness. It is a time when you are dissatisfied with yourself and see the lack in yourself of what it is you are about to receive. Ste. Teresa d’Avila expounds on this ‘abandoned by God’ feeling in Interior Castles, considered the foremost mystical writing of Western culture by the folks in the universities who get to say that.
World has graduated into higher consciousness and lives on another plane from ‘the rest of us.’ World is being the kind of person trouble avoids, the person the mugger does not notice. World is truly being in a world of your own, dancing to an internal drummer. The wreath around the dancing figure represents the barrier between planes.
Ten of Pentacles This is where we live. This is the in-laws, the trash neighbors, the abusive marriage, the Mafia and the politicians we find ourselves in the midst of. It shows a family owned and operated by Elder Dude, who has decreed something to the couple beneath him in the hierarchy that has the wife earnestly beseeching the father of the little squalling darling pulling at her clothes, while father stares in another direction. (Personally, I think Grandpa wants another grandson.)

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD
Four unrelated Tarot cards once again make variations of the same statement, plus a few expressions I had to dig for.
Ace of Pentacles is the right way, the right road or path, money, money in hand, being straight. Knight of Swords is a quick change of directions, as in ‘to go back’ and it means in a hurry. Then World means being so superior nothing interferes with you, followed by Ten of Pentacles, the trouble making people, the difficulties other people cause.
Ace of Pentacles, going straight, contrasts with Ten of Pentacles, the people who complicate your life.
Ace of Pentacles is a road, and Knight of Swords is hurrying on it, doubling back.
Once again, the saga suggested is very clear, and has few variations. I hunted for some.
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS
Ace of Pentacles is the right way, the right road or path or course of action; is money and money in hand, and a large sum; is being straight or going straight. You see a hand with a large coin representation in it over a ‘straight and narrow’ path with lilies in front and a arbor of roses at its end.
Knight of Swords is a turnaround, and therefore can mean either pursuit or fleeing; being in a big hurry or rush. You see a knight in full armor with his big ole sword extended and his horse flying. Even the clouds are jagged and rushed-looking. The expression on his face is definitely that of a hunter. He is more pursuing than fleeing.
World is the apex of spiritual maturity, ability and power, the stage in which a person repels trouble and troublemakers by reason of being so able to deal with it, by reason of the look you give the mugger makes him reconsider. The figure is meant to be hermaphrodite but looks very female. Hermaphrodite is considered superior in occultism in principle because it contains the whole human spectrum, not just half. Anyway, the wreath represents the repelling of the person’s presence, repelling the various human, animal, and elemental monsters on the outside of the wreath, none of whom are even looking at the naked figure dancing freely with not one but two wands in (its) hands.
Ten of Pentacles is the influence of the group on a person, is about being a member of a family or group, and represents the dysfunctional side of that concept. Two other Rider Waite Tarot cards, in the Tarot Verbatim ™ system, represent the positive side of that influence. The illustration shows a family quarrel, with Grandpa on his throne, and Son refusing to listen to his earnest’s wife’s expression … oh yeah, and the squalling brat pulling on mama’s clothes.

Four Card Spreads, Our Daily Spread
Advice is about the lovely dysfunctional clan we all seem to be members of, making the point that you can be in the family (or any group) as a member but not be of the family. You can disregard their expectations and plans for you, just be thinking about something else and ‘doing your own thing,’ not theirs. You did not sign on for the feud, you have no part in each fella’s petty agenda. (You are better than they.)

They are about today and the days around it. (It is a group message like a horoscope, except Tarot isn’t based on someone else’s birth data, so it can be specific, accurate, detailed and direct. Our experiment here is “How much more accurate is it?”)

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

Family Perspective She isn’t at all upset by family infighting. She knows how his family gets him into their psychodramas, but she doesn’t worry about any of it. Other people have problems and worries. She doesn’t think in those terms. She knows how not to let other people’s agendas get to her. Think your own thoughts, and don’t get distracted by other people’s. She worries about the family but doesn’t let it get to her. She is aware how upset his family is that she is independent. Don’t get involved, Mind your own business Perspective Be a sweet lady who minds her own business: Know nothing about their woes. Figure out how to keep your space free of misfits, and you won’t have anything to worry about. Don’t get involved in politics; it will keep you up nights. She isn’t about to worry about what her man does with his low class friends/family. Sweet Little Troublemaker Perspective She is not a member of their low-class circle. She knows how that gets on their nerves. A sweet lady who can get everyone upset and fighting, and not be a part of it herself. She knows how to get on your very last nerve and have other people fighting with you, and not be involved herself at all. Nine of Swords and Ten of Pentacles have aggravation in common. MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS Queen of Cups is the loyal wife, the sweet lady, she thinks of or about her man, she understands or has figured out her man. A blond with a dreamy look on her face fondles this funky-looking object d’art. Water surrounds her throne and cherubs are all over it. World is in a class of her own, nothing gets to her, nothing interferes with her and she doesn’t mingle, doesn’t stoop to be connected or involved: She has it made in all the planes. Traditionally a hermaphrodite – the idea being that when you are an advanced being, you no longer have gender – she is pictured nude, dancing with a wand in each hand, looking away. Nine of Swords is upset, up nights worrying, stressed out, crying. A person sits upright in bed, holding his or her head. Ten of Pentacles is family problems, problems with relatives or with coworkers, friends, or the boys at the bar – any group. It’s a bunch of querulous feuding people of any kind – the dope gang, the loud low class neighbors … Illustration shows a family that doesn’t get along. Grandpa has some edict, and the couple are having to come to terms with something. Even the kid gets in on the act. Remind you of something?
