Guidance |
Well, getting ahead involves putting behind. Progress may involve leveling structures, and moving on involves making your exit. Sometimes there’s an easy way out, and sometimes you move on down a comfortable road. But even so, there are shards of fondness that get put on the back shelf as the new more useful sturdier items occupy their spaces.
Could This Be You?
Picture this: You look at the cards in your spread.
You immediately get an idea because you know a few of them intimately.
AND you know a system that works because you have had a few

Ace of Pentacles
Think of Ace of Pentacles as money and as being on the right path. It has a moral message that good people succeed: The hand holding the gold coin (pentacle) is over the straight and narrow path. And the path begins in white lilies and ends in a triumphal arch.
So you find Ace of Pentacles talking about money; about the straight-and-narrow and being on the Path; about good-better-best and perfect, about all sorts of applications of the word ‘right.’
Ace of Cups
This is one of the difficult cards, beginning with that illustration. First, it’s good to know Ace of Cups is definitely a good card; it even means ‘good.’ It means ‘safe’ and ‘no harm.’ It means good health. It means love, true love, unconditional love, and love regarding female(s). It even means God.
How does it mean all that? Ace of Cups’ symbols are Roman Catholic to the bone. The dove with the Eucharist in its beak is Holy Spirit, and it heads into the five human senses – those five streams that flow into the large still body of water representing mass consciousness. So Divinity flows through a human into human mass consciousness: That is the underlying core meaning of Ace of Cups. That process represents receiving divine goodness and passing it on.
In your answers to common questions like today’s commentary, you find Ace of Cups meanings like the ones we have here. We have quite a few: flow (the flow of the water the dove is blessing); health; being in good shape; love and the one you love; God; easy; agree; peace; healing; safe; spiritual; comfortable; and ‘the way is clear,’ a sentiment that – in various language – Ace of Cups expresses every once in a while.
Ace of Cups is one of the rescue cards, of course, especially in its ‘harmless’ meanings.
Six of Swords
Here’s the picture: Under gray skies, woman and child are leaving a place for a better life – leaving without possessions, paddled away at dusk or dawn in a crude small boat by a friend. Refugees from something. Six of Swords represents both despair and hope, hope because anyplace is better than this.
Six of Swords can apply in your inquiries as the leaving, the journey, the expected arrival, or all of the above at once – as in ‘on the way from here to there.’ This makes for potential opposite meanings, but usually Six of Swords fits into your story smoothly, so you know. Usually. Watch for it to sometimes mean ‘not anymore,’ wrapping around another card’s meaning the way Eight of Cups does.
Today we have good examples of this flexibility to Six of Swords. Here are its categories: (1) improving, recovering, getting over, after what I’ve been through, after all that. (2) getting underway, gets on with life, to get that, you go overseas, where I am heading, the way things are going, relocating. (3) leaving this place, the way out, getting out of there, departed, left to be with God, to exit town, getting away. (4) doesn’t anymore, putting that aside for, renunciation, leaving it all behind and getting into something else; (5) to avoid, when you shy away from. These amount to a pretty good snapshot of how Six of Swords functions in your Tarot stories.

Now Without The Pictures |
Whenever you see Ace of Pentacles and Ace of Cups, you could be talking spiritual path because Ace of Pentacles is a road, way, or path and Ace of Cups is ‘spiritual’ and all kinds of spiritual subjects. Ace of Cups refers to the presence of God or being a loving godly person, and Ace of Pentacles shows that ‘right path’ that mystics and religions talk about. So Ace of Pentacles, with its ‘right way’ and ‘Path’ meanings, is potentially religious/spiritual, whereas Ace of Cups is overtly religious/spiritual.
Ace of Pentacles and Ace of Cups also very commonly say: perfect health, true love, love and money, easy success … so remember those. Ace of Pentacles is the ‘perfect’ and Ace of Cups is ‘health.’ Ace of Cups is true love, and is also just ‘love,’ so Ace of Pentacles can emphasize the ‘true’ of ‘true love – as in Mr. or Mrs. Right? Ace of Pentacles is money and Ace of Cups is love – so ‘love and money.’ Ace of Pentacles means success, and Ace of Cups is ‘easy.’ With Ace of Cups meaning ‘easy,’ these two cards say: easy money, easy way to, the easiest route. Perfect comfort, too, because Ace of Cups (‘Go with the flow.’) expands to comfort, and to relaxing. Also note that both of these cards will translate ‘benefit.’
Six of Swords is ‘getting over’ or ‘getting past’ a situation, and Ace of Cups is in good shape so these two cards paired make stories about surviving something. These two cards also describe leaving something behind in order to be good or spiritual, which amounts to renunciation of a past life. (Ace of Pentacles would add being on the Path to that.)
The perfect relaxing getaway: Ace of Pentacles as perfect, Ace of Cups as relaxing, Six of Swords as a getaway.
