Guidance
|
Purposeful change is our focus today. Hands on the wheel, eyes on the road, we see some result, some different scenery on the road of our daily driving. We make changes in course to get to a different spot than we were headed for. That place we are headed for is some goal – it can be love; it can be health; it can be God we seek. Whatever it is, we are making a turn heading out.

Synopsis
|
When you are more experienced (have a few miles on you) – or when you are older and wiser – you look where you are going. When you look where you are going, you naturally plot a course to where you want to end up. Having plotted the course, you naturally change that course because you are looking where you are going. We remind ourselves of this today.

Now Without The Pictures
|
The theme here is about changing course because Eight of Cups is doing exactly that on a road, and Hermit is on the road as a guide. In the middle is Ace of Cups whose many meanings fit into this in different ways, as you can see. Ace of Cups is a very religious-spiritual card – the most. Ace of Cups’ core meaning is a flow of benefit, putting it succinctly, but ‘benefit’ is many things, all good. The benefits include health, good living, God, peace, love, safety, cooperation (going with the flow). That flow of water pictured here can be taken literally, often as a leak, including leaking internal organs.
What is pictured here, stylized, in Ace of Cups is Holy Spirit (the dove) flowing through a person and communicating (the wafer) through that person’s five senses (the five flows) with human mass consciousness (the large body of water with the water lilies)……,
Eight of Cups and Hermit are on the road. Hermit is looking and Eight of Cups is changing course. Together, they describe either getting onto or off of The Path or any thoroughfare. With Ace of Cups (God. Love. Peace.) between them, the change Eight of Cups refers to is getting onto The Path, or the better, safer, road.
Ace of Cups and Hermit are also both about God, and are both about health. Ace of Cups and Hermit classically say ‘seeking God’ and describe devotion to God. Together, they also translate ‘godly path’ and ‘godly man.’ Hermit is a monk who is seeking (seeking people to help, to be a guide for them).
Ace of Cups and Hermit speak of seeking good health, and they speak of a doctor who heals. Hermit is the doctor of course. Hermit is an old man too, so Ace of Cups and Hermit are a healthy old man. These two cards also say ‘knowing about health.’
Eight of Cups and Ace of Cups cover the whole spectrum of Ace of Cups’ many applications. To those applications (meanings), Eight of Cups adds any of the following: a change of course; suddenly; getting onto or off of a physical road of any sort; departing life; leaving behind (leaving anything behind for something else, a meaning shared with Six of Swords). You can see all the baby-phrases papa Eight of Cups makes with mama Ace of Cups.

Tarot Verbatim
GUIDANCE Most people seek to look as honest as they can, and we make allowances for that when we deal with others. After all, we too are projecting our best self to them as well. Today we focus on the tendency to think in black and white rather than the more complex shades we actually deal with every day. The bad guy versus the good guy. Today we are looking for the good in the bad guy as well as for the bad in the good guy.

Now, Part Two,
Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim™ thing works? If so,
*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing section below. This tells about the combined meanings of the three cards in the pictures in the Tarot Readings. It explains how these cards get together in your mind to make the messages. HERE ARE PHRASES FOR ALL THREE 2-CARD COMBINATIONS is a stream-of-consciousness bridge to your subconscious if you use it regularly – people report.
*Go to Learn Tarot by Pictures. It is what each of the cards, by itself, has to say. It shows you how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in today’s Spread. All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim™.
You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim™ works.
This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contradictions – than a personal reading would give you. Also, pronouns are flexible: If the sentence feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ but you’re a ‘she,’ well, it’s yours.
*AND if you write names of any two cards into the Google search bar, it will give you meanings of those!

…………
………… Interesting contrasts make interesting distinctions here. Ace of Cups and Hermit are clean (Ace of Cups) and honest (Hermit); are God (Ace of Cups) and religion (Hermit, a monk); are good health (Ace of Cups) and a healer (Hermit is a physician). Very genuine wholesome stuff there. Six of Wands is ‘Appearances are deceiving; things are not what they seem; a frenemy in your camp; winning a battle that loses the war; outwitting or outwitted; phony … and so on. The easy interpretation of these two trunks of meaning is about being deliberately misled. We see another and deeper meaning that although things here are genuine, there’s an invisible fly in the ointment. He loves you, but he loves you in his own way, which doesn’t include paying attention to you or taking care of you. There’s such a thing as an honest crook, or a player who really loves you. Hermit, honest; Six of Wands, crook. Sometimes there’s a twist to the story in real life too.
………………
………….. Ace of Cups is a word picture in Roman Catholic symbols. The dove is God as Holy Spirit; the wafer from the holy communion ritual puts Holy Spirit into mass consciousness through the five senses (represented by the five flows from the fountain) of an individual. So the idea is that a person channels the presence, the influence, of God into mass consciousness. This really expresses the influence you have directly and indirectly on other humans by your daily life. This is of course a card added in the Middle Ages to the deck to prevent Tarot users from being murdered as witches. These spiritual and religious meanings are not preeminent ones.
In real practice, Ace of Cups is ‘good,’ good anything: good person, good health, in good shape, harmless, wholesome, beneficial, clean, pure (in any sense), love and unconditional love, honest, genuine, real. The ‘love’ meaning expands to include cooperation, getting along, agreeing, and going with the flow.
If the reading involves a leak, Ace of Cups is the leak.
………………
………….. Hermit shows a monk on foot at night in the cold looking for travelers to bring them to the comfort of his headquarters for a hot meal and a warm bed. Hermit is help. Hermit comes to you. Hermit is a friend, counselor, physician, old or older man, is celibate or monogamous, knows, investigates, watches, looks for, searches, and is ‘on the path.’
………………
………….. Six of Wands is very flexible … many applications. Its illustration is about a battle in which King Richard III of England was lured into chasing some Arabs, and was kidnapped. The next in line to the throne arranged that, and made sure Richard was never ransomed. Pyrrhic victory – like a football player who heads for the wrong goal post. ‘Things are not the way they seem’ is the catch-all term for Six of Wands. It warns of betrayal by someone who is on your side, someone you trust. So this is the player in romance; this is the company that isn’t going to pay you, or the employee who is making an illicit profit from his or her job; the buddy who undermines you or takes advantage, or uses you; this is the televangelist, the bankster, the crook, the con artist, the phony charity … and this is self-delusion or misleading others. Six of Wands means pretense and pretend, and it involves playing a role.

Ace of Cups and Hermit Ace of Cups and Hermit, as I wrote at the beginning of this, are “clean (Ace of Cups) and honest (Hermit); are God (Ace of Cups) and religion (Hermit, a monk); are good health (Ace of Cups) and a healer (Hermit is a physician).” Ace of Cups is love; Hermit is an old man. These two cards in Tarot Verbatim ™ say both ‘I love the old man’ and ‘The old man loves me.’ We also say ‘love you and look out for you’ because Hermit is looking out (in both senses). Well, we’ve got ‘looking for love’ the same way. We’ve got an old man who is healthy, because Ace of Cups is good health. So we have ‘seeking good health’ too because Hermit is seeking. We have seeking God or seekers after God, with Ace of Cups being God and Hermit seeking. I am old but I am in good shape – Ace of Cups means ‘in good shape.’ Ace of Cups is mass consciousness as well as divine love (See the explanation above, under Ace of Cups.), so Hermit is bringing divine love to mass consciousness. Hermit is also bringing health to (people) because Ace of Cups is good health and Hermit is bringing good things to people. Ace of Cups is peace, so Hermit is either/both seeking peace and bringing peace. Hermit seeks to be a good person, because Ace of Cups means ‘good.’ Hermit means to show the way, guide, demonstrate – so ‘Show us how to be genuine’ because both Hermit and Ace of Cups mean ‘genuine.’ And it easy (Ace of Cups) to be honest (Hermit). x

Hermit and Six of Wands Hermit and Six of Wands are opposites too: honesty and deceit, the real and the phony, being on the path versus leading others astray. It’s seldom that everything is as it should be at the same time. It’s also seldom that everything is all wrong at the same time. There are distinctions to be made to everything everywhere. Reality is not as advertised. While we know this in our head, we tend to paint the rest of a good scene with sparkly paint, and we tend to take the black brush to the scene that’s mostly dark. Well, keep an eye out for the percentages, we remind ourselves: Some people can be salvaged from their setting; sometimes being ‘the picture of health’ is only a picture; some things are wonderful as long as you follow the instructions. I remind myself of this because it’s so easy to lose track of it.

Ace of Cups …….. Ace of Cups is love, and it’s unconditional love. It’s all good. (Read the explanation of the illustration in Learn Tarot By Observing above.) It’s ease and easy and easygoing and going with the flow, letting and accepting and cooperating. It’s peace and spirituality, the good part of mass consciousness, flourishing and being in good shape. It’s ‘good’ anything at all: good health, good person, wholesome, clean, pure, honest and well-intentioned. It’s the real thing. It means benefit and beneficial. It means harmless. It means genuine. Speaking of flow, Ace of Cups can be rain or any sort of leak, or water itself. You should know a body of water is a universal symbol of mass consciousness.
.

Hermit …………. Hermit is a monk, a service monk (which means he does useful things). Think of the characteristics of that office, and you will pull Hermit’s meanings together. This one is a physician, and he is ‘on the path’ out looking patiently for travelers to help them to his place where there’s a warm bed and a hot meal. So Hermit comes to you; Hermit is looking out for someone; Hermit is a helpful friend, a friend when you are in need. He is a wise person, a counselor or confidante. Hermit is an old or older (or mature) man, is celibate or true to his mate. Hermit knows, is wise, is spiritual and is a spiritual guide or teacher. He also watches, investigates, searches and looks for – which makes this card also read ‘surveillance’ or ‘surveil.’
.

Six of Wands …………. Six of Wands The story of its illustration is written for you in Learn Tarot by Observing, above. ‘Do not trust the environment’ Six of Wands is saying. Something is up. You are being misled (or are misleading someone: Action in Tarot goes both ways). Betrayal is afoot. Sometimes, when Six of Wands is on its good behavior, it just means playing a role or pretending or ‘acting as if.’ Six of Wands is the con artist on a large or a small scale, a leader who betrays followers: bankster, politician, televangelist, charity racketeer. Six of Wands is the bartender who uses a phony shot glass, or a person who makes a lot of promises and doesn’t do any of it.

You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim™ works.
This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contradictions – and also the pronouns are more flexible. If it feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ and you’re a ‘she,’ feel free to adopt it anyway.

Five of Wands
Ace of Cups – Knight of Cups – Hermit
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
.
Three cards’ meanings dovetail into lots of similar themes today. Five of Wands is the spoiler. Look at this! Straight across Ace of Cups and Knight of Cups and Hermit all refer to: being good; receiving some benefit; friendship and friends; love, in one form or another. All are about helping or being helped as well.
Knight of Cups and Hermit are helping others. Ace of Cups and Knight of Cups mean cooperating. Knight of Cups and Hermit are coming to the other person, taking initiative, making the first move. Knight of Cups and Hermit both mean ‘friend.’
Ace of Cups is God and God-related subjects; Hermit, as as the monk, serves God. This gives us a spiritual theme. Both of these two cards also refer to healing and health.
The Christian symbolism in Tarot is of a more recent origin than Tarot itself. Tarot was introduced to the West at a time when the Roman Catholic church was the order of the day in Europe. Mr. Waite included those cards in the Rider Waite deck, and Pamela Coleman Smith drew the cathedrals and other Christian setting when she did the illustrations. (Wiccans often object to the Rider Waite deck.)
Lastly, we have the spoiler, Five of Wands. It balances some meanings that, when applied, are contradictory in context: It means to fight, to resist, to be against; but it also means trying hard, and putting a lot of energy into something, anything. Five of Wands also refers to exercise, which echoes the health theme of Ace of Cups and Hermit.

.

Ace of Cups refers to the ideal human state of having divine energy flow through a clear channel. The five senses and five bodily fluids (medieval concept) are the five streams you see out of the cup (of consciousness). The dove symbolizes the Holy Spirit, and it has the Catholic wafer used in the Holy Communion ceremony. (This is one of the cards modified in the Middle Ages to sanctify the use of Tarot, the devil’s tool.)
Meanings are ‘all benefit, no harm,’ love, gentle, God or Divinity, good health, cooperation, easy or ease up, advice to ‘Go with the flow,’ good, wholehearted, a blessing, a flow of any liquid (even a leak).

Knight of Cups is that knight in shining armor we hear tell of. Prince Charming himself. The Good Guy incarnate. He is the Boyfriend in love. He is the one to first offer his hand in friendship, love, apology or peacemaking. He is the helpful assistant, the one who makes favorable press via his native diplomacy. This is the warm puppy dude you cuddle with. On a good night, he plays the violin. This Rider Waite Tarot card is about to offer or to accept, to give or to receive, a friendly man (usually young or youngish), a man who has no herd bull characteristics, who is mainly human.

Hermit is another who brings help, who offers, who is patient, kind, supportive, loyal, honest. He is out looking in the middle of the night for people who could use his help on the road. As a monk, being of service to others is emphasized. (Once again, we have the Middle Ages influence here.)

Five of Wands is a struggle, conflict or fight. It is trying hard. It is exercising. Anything that makes you sweat, that involves exertion … even your spiritual life. Those five guys whacking each other with boards are exerting themselves.

Two of Cups
Ace of Cups – Hermit – Nine of Cups
Well, your wish for true love and devotion is granted, in a hot love affair too! It goes like this: Ace of Cups is true love; Hermit is a person (usually, but not always, a fellow) who is devoted and sincere; and Nine of Cups is ‘your wish is granted,’ your dream come true. Two of Cups is the hot love affair. Hermit also comes to, or is looking for, another person. (Copy this paragraph and put it in your wallet!)
Hermit is sincere; Two of Cups has an agenda, is using someone, has an undisclosed other interest. Hermit is devoted; Two of Cups is mooching.
Ace of Cups is true love, Two of Cups is the (hot) love affair. Here, note, we have both. And we have both with Nine of Cups that means total satisfaction, dream come true.
Ace of Cups is cooperation, and Two of Cups is pretending to. Ace of Cups + Two of Cups = true love with a strong sexual bond, and also means ‘only pretending to love.’ Maddening, isn’t it? That’s why we combine more than four cards in an individual reading: to break those ties.
Two of Cups isn’t just cheating your lover, it’s being insincere with friends or in business deals. It’s pretending to be something you’re not. Its broad, general meaning is that ‘undisclosed third party’ or undisclosed other interest. That is applied in unexpected ways sometimes. It can represent, say, a surveillance camera.
“Is it true love or sex?’ people wonder. Well, today it’s both. ‘Is this person my friend, or using me?’ Well, the mooch loves you. We have true love with a strong sexual bond. We have a friend who expects favors from buddies with no return reward. But the headline is, we have “Your dream lover comes to you with true love in his heart.” and “All you could ever want in a love affair: the love of someone who looks out for you.”
Ace of Cups True love is what Ace of Cups is about today mostly, although God and cooperation do show up. The Rider Waite illustration is from the Roman Catholic end of things: the love representing Holy Spirit, the wafer representing Communion, the fountain that represents a person infused with the presence of God which flows through and goes out – those five streams being the five senses to modern people, and the five ‘humors’ or body fluids in the Middle Ages.
Hermit A monk is devoted to finding travelers at night, with his lantern, in the mountains in the snow. Hermit comes to, looks for, helps, is an old or older man, is patient and wise – sometimes a professional counselor – is celibate or monogamous, is a true friend, a friend who comes to help.
Nine of Cups ‘Your wish is granted’ refers to the person who is asking the question. He also means satisfaction, wanting, wanting it all, wealth, overindulgence, excess, being content, pleasing or being pleased. Illustration is a chubby fella who drank all those glasses on the mantel and has a big grin on his face.
Two of Cups The caduceus represents a factor that interferes or participates and is undisclosed. The factor that interferes need not be malefic, but often is. Two of Cups means many things – for example, mistrust, mooching, addiction (any kind), sexual bond, sexual affair, love affair, cheating lover, lover who has an agenda or misrepresents him- or her- self, false friend, con artist, embezzlement, deceit of all kinds.
Guidance, Our Daily Spread
Guidance Worry is like the color red: It takes over the canvas and hogs the attention. As ten percent of our life, it colors the other ninety, distorting our outlook. Things are usually better than we think they are, even if we aren’t ‘a worrier.’ Let’s try to peel off that red tape, shall we?

Nine of Swords Two of Wands – Ace of Cups – Hermit
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
Here we have three cards of security and affection and taking care … and one that means worry, stress and nightmare. When you put them together in stories, the nightmare one really interferes. I think this spread is a reminder of how the 25% worry infects the 75% calm.
*Two of Wands here today is the (good) future, security, real estate – and mostly the word ‘will.’ *Ace of Cups is love, health, good, God, benefit, easy and eases, a flow, loved one, and sometimes religion (especially sitting next to Hermit). *Hermit is a friend comes to help, comfort, seeking (seeking after God, next to Ace of Cups), looking out for, looking for the way, sobriety, celibacy or monogamy, religious, being out on the road (especially at night).
Worry and anxiety are as much about body chemistry as they are about situations. Look back at the past angsts of yours and recall the events. How did you get out of those bad times? How do you feel when you think about them now? Now that the distance has calmed you down, could you handle that era more confidently?
No matter what there is to worry about, you are going to get through it okay if you are a friend, and if you have a friend to care for, who cares for you.
Our message today is to be aware how worry takes over and paints the whole scene when it really belongs to only a much smaller part of it.

I N S T R U C T I O N S & Explanations (Comments are below this.) Did you come here just for your predictions? – If so, you are done when you finish reading the sentences of Group Analytical Tarot Cards Reading. Each Tarot sentence is a literal-interpretation reading of the scenes pictured on the four cards you see. Only what each of the cards says – phrase by phrase – no fillers – no psychic ability used. The readings are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. Tarot, all by itself, talks to you. This is a demonstration of that . Tarot will address any group flexibly, as it does here of ‘all the visitors.’ (It can address ‘all the people at work who have a say in my raise,’ for instance, without you knowing who or where those people are.) Horoscopes are group readings too. Astrology has to be based on someone else’s birth data, though, so it does not solidly apply to you just because of where the sun was when you were born. (Astrologers know this.) Emily wants to know whether these sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than for people who have come only a few times. Would you help with a comment, if that is who you are? Please? Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no, never or not.’ That negative modifier can apply to any one of the cards. Without a question also the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. Notice how, as much as possible, we drop pronouns, which makes for some awkward phrasing. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information! In a ‘real’ reading, the parties are identified (including the gender of the questioner!), and so is the time frame if there is one. In this group reading, we cannot do that, so we have variety. Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim ™ thing works? If so, *Go to Learn Tarot by Observing. This tells the thinking regarding the combined four pictures in the Daily Spread – the pictures above here. It explains how these four cards get together in your mind to make the message. *Go to Learn Tarot by the Pictures. This is the meaning of each separate card. Ace of Cups
Hermit, Queen of Wands, Ten of Pentacles
Meanings and Illustrations: Observation of the Spread
Two of our cards are about healing, about love and devotion, helpfulness and cooperation, about helping and not harming, being well-intentioned. Those are Hermit and Ace of Cups. Each of these expresses spirituality too: Hermit is a seeker and Ace of Cups is the presence of God.
The plot thickens with the practical woman who runs a tight ship, the Mama or manager, and those troubled and/or trouble-making people. Now we have drama, the stuff our lives are made of.
Hermit and Queen of Wands are the voices of sanity, common sense, and being of service to others.
Queen of Wands and Ten of Pentacles both refer to the house or home life.
Meanings and Illustrations: Individual Rider Waite Tarot Cards
Hermit goes out looking for someone to take care of and help. He looks for travelers at night with his lantern who are stranded, lost or hurting. This is a calm, kind person, usually male and usually older; or it stands for coming to another person, taking care, being devoted, being the backup or the assistant. Sincerity, truth and investigation are some of its other applications. ‘Help is on the way.’
Queen of Wands is the down-to-earth practical woman. Nothing foo-foo about her: Put her in charge. She is the mama, the manager, the wife who runs the house. There’s no water around her throne, and her favorite flower is the sunflower. The black cat suggests she has a devious, witchy side as well.
Ten of Pentacles is the family we came from that we don’t want to duplicate … but do. It shows the old patriarch in his throne chair, petting the dogs … They know who’s boss, see? … while the couple with the grand kid discuss his latest edict. You know the routine: Wife talks, husband turns away and stares into space? – while the brat squalls and pulls on her clothes. Oh, yeah, this is a Family Scene.
This is family problems, couple problems, in-law problems, not getting along with one another. This is the whole extended family, or just the family; and it doesn’t have to be the dysfunctional family. It can be the work crew too, just as Queen of Wands can be the mama or the manager. It can be the work crew from hell, the neighborhood gang, politicians or mafia.
Ace of Cups is beneficial and not harmful, is a flow, is the easy way, cooperation, being loving, true love, is the idea of the presence of God infusing the ‘five humors’ or bodily fluids. It’s all about love here. Healing and loyalty, too. Its illustration shows the dove, symbol of Holy Spirit, infusing the water (and the wafer of communion).
Advice is to be the influence, the voice, of sanity when the dysfunctional people around you have lost theirs; and to demonstrate lovingkindness by patiently being of service to them (Hermit) yet requiring them, when they are ‘in your house,’ to be harmless and cooperative (Ace of Cups). Note the point is to influence and to not be influenced.
