Guidance

Disengage from hostilities you are not involved in, and consider being very casual about those you are involved in. Save yourself the heartache of being a social war casualty. Joining has a hidden price of being against something else. You can join and be oblivious to the dogma of the clan, or you can just not be a joiner. Every family is fractured, and many are divided into camps with the most disagreeable member being the clan leader. It’s one thing to be informed and quite another to get drawn into two-sided combat … because it’s always two-sided no matter how many parts there are to the whole pot, isn’t it? University life is rife with ‘which side’ a professor is on. Think up a third side … especially if it reconciles the two … and everybody turns on you, just like when you try to save a woman who is being beaten up. This unremitting war is human history. (P. S. Forget the heart surgery.)

Synopsis

Having not a care in the world: Now, that is a gift. For most of us that ‘gift’ takes a LOT of effort. To be free. To unhitch our concerns about money, getting credit, or where we are headed. Underneath, our spread today suggests that when you’re on the ‘right path,’ you are not keeping track of whether you are on the right path – you just are. Unselfconscious values, this suggests, are the real ones.

Ace of Swords

Ace of Swords

There’s no compromise with Ace of Swords: It’s all one way. A definitive victory for one side is a total defeat for the other. Ace of Swords is an ultimatum, is ‘you have to’ and is force or being forced. It is war, and it is winning. It is being the champion: See those laurel leaves crowing the sword’s crown?

Three of Swords

Three of Swords

The glyph says it all … a heart with three swords stabbing through it, and storm clouds for a background. Hurt, heartache, hate, fighting, heart trouble, heart surgery. This is one of the divorce cards. Today it is war, with Ace of Swords modifying it.

Fool

Fool

The deeper meaning of Fool is that living through the subconscious frees you somewhat from the physical world. Fool has a charmed life: He is expected not to fall off the cliff he is skipping over. Fool is to ‘not be’ something or somewhere. To not be present, to not be paying attention, to not care, to not prepare. Fool is free. ‘God protects fools and drunks,’ as they say.

Now Without The Pictures

Serendipity: Things just happen to happen for the best without any outside help. That’s today’s story. Just say the word and it’s yours – who’d-a-thunk-it.

An unexpected goody when you aren’t looking.

Ace of Pentacles is the goody – see the hand with the prize money? Judgment is the unexpected – see the folks getting up from their coffins? And Fool is without you doing anything – is when you’re not looking.

Both Fool and Judgment suggest a new life with optimism, a clearing of old mind and a blank slate. Judgment and Fool are both about freedom – a breath of fresh air in each.

You don’t need a book to tell you Judgment is about a new life: People are raised by the dead in the illustration. Judgment is a change, a shift, a new perspective, a sudden awareness. The horn of the angel is announcing, so Judgment also takes on all the say-tell-speak meanings. Combine the ‘new phase’ and ‘second time around’ meanings with speak and Judgment now is also a reminder.

We are on the road with Ace of Pentacles, which turns the angel’s horn (which means alarm for waking up those dead people) into a car horn, possibly the kind of honk that is an alarm.

Fool means ‘nothing.’ Fool isn’t there. Fool forgot. Fool doesn’t know you. Fool is living in his free world. Fool is the maverick you don’t interfere with, and who doesn’t interfere with you. Switch ‘I think therefore I am’ to ‘I don’t think, therefore I am not.’ Fool isn’t a member, isn’t affected. Fool is ‘water off a duck’s back’ and not caring one way or the other. ‘On the road again,’ a song, catches Fool’s vibe.

So both Fool and Ace of Pentacles are on the road.

Fool has a lot of meanings that spread out from this main puddle. He means optimism; youth; to assume; being personally free – a free spirit.

Guidance        Our message is singular and clear today:  There is a difficulty to battle, and it’s time for you to jump in and fight to win.  There’s an enemy, engage it, them, him or her.  There’s something that you have been going round and round with for a long time now, and it’s time to take a stand and put an end to the struggle once and for all. (“Dismissed!”)

Tarot Readings:  Battling Heartache (Three of Swords + Five of Swords)

I am going to beat the cycle of heartache this time.

I am in the process of overcoming the hurt from this nasty person.

Life is one difficulty after another that I force myself to fight.

I keep trying to beat this once and for all, but it’s difficult.

Pain is like one losing battle after another that you have to deal with.

You have to keep going on until you overcome, and it’s a heartache.

I constantly am forced to fight for my place in this hostile environment.

Everything is going against me but I am winning, I am beating the difficulties.

It was touch and go there for a while, and it hurt a lot, but this time you beat it, so be proud.

He keeps hurting me:  This time, I’m gonna make him come around.

Must get people/person out of your life who keep(s) taking advantage.

You have to split up or divorce, it’s one wise-ass torment after another.

This is a bad environment, you just have to toughen up and keep fighting it.

It’s coming to this:  that you will have to battle an abuser.

Tarot Readings:  Achievement Over Difficulties (Ace of Swords + Three of Swords)

It was touch and go there for a while, and it hurt a lot, but this time you beat it, so be proud.

You chose to achieve this against all the odds, and you are in the process of doing just that.

This time, I win the fight with the bully!

An achievement worth mentioning involves serial adversities, each of which you handle manfully.

Overcoming hostile environments one after the other, I am the best at this game.

A big win often involves getting wounded in battle with the bad guy.

I hate bullies, and I keep defeating them.

Tarot Readings:  Intimidate the Intimidator (Ace of Swords + Five of Swords)

A predatory person’s unremitting hostility must be dealt with.

(He) keeps taking what belongs to me until I am forced to fight him for it.

The time has come to intimidate the intimidator, it’s war.

Sooner or later, a bully will pick on a superior adversary.

I say, pick on me, I’m up for it, that kind of challenge gets my blood moving.

It’s time to get nasty:  Now you are being forced to fight back.

He has this attitude:  You just have to keep fighting with him.

I can be nasty when the occasion arises and I am forced to fight.

You got another battle on your hands, and this time you are mean enough to win.

A meany is getting his/her own medicine back – is the loser to me this time.

We are forced to fight one arrogant selfish taker after another.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

I can’t tell them that!” was my reaction when these four filed into the Tarot conference room. Because three of the four are warlike, and the other means ‘on and on, one after another.’   But I manned up and did it.

Five of Swords is a difficult card in Tarot Verbatim(TM).  This is the bully, the mugger, the person ‘on the take,’ the predator.  This is you being taken advantage of.  This is the guy with Bill Cheney’s smirk.  The only ‘redeeming social value’ of Five of Swords is beating something that could have got the best of you, or putting the predator in his place on his own field of battle.  That’s pretty much it.

The story in Five of Swords is the fellow who challenged his buddies to a sword fight and, when he won, kept their swords as if it were a real fight.

Three of Swords is being hurt or wounded, pain, heartache, hostility (hostile person or environment or feeling), divorce or schism, difficulty, adversity, animosity, hate … bad weather and heart trouble.

Ace of Swords is a totality.  Usually it stands for a total victory – see the laurel leave crowning the crown there?  For every total victory, something is defeated, so you look for that too.  It means a challenge, an achievement, a champion, an ultimatum, and being forced to, or having to.

And of course Two of Pentacles shows a continuing action, and means ‘over and over again’ or ‘continuing.’  Today its lighter meanings are obscured by the smoke of the other cards’ conflicts.  Nothing silly here.

Our message is singular and clear today:  There is a difficulty to battle, and it’s time for you to jump in and fight to win.  There’s an enemy, engage it, them, him or her.  There’s something that you have been going round and round with for a long time now, and it’s time to take a stand and put an end to the struggle once and for all. Three of Swords   is being hurt or wounded, pain, heartache, hostility (hostile person or environment or feeling), divorce or schism, difficulty, adversity, animosity, hate … bad weather and heart trouble.  The glyph of a valentine stabbed with three knives, and a background of storm clouds, is apt for this idea, wouldn’t you say?

Two of Pentacles shows a continuing action, and means ‘over and over again’ or ‘continuing.’ The endless loop that stands for that in math is strung between the plates of a juggler, and behind him are ships being tossed by incredible waves.  This is one of the cards that will call up the verb ‘keeps.’

EXPLANATIONS:

Each and every ‘Tarot Reading’ sentence you see is a literal interpretation of the four Rider Waite Tarot cards drawn and pictured for today. (The literal interpretation is from the illustration on each card.) These sentences are put together by only combining the phrases of what each cards says. In other words, there are NO “filler” phrases added just to make full sentences, and no psychic ability or spirit guide is ever involved.

*Without a question* in a group reading to focus the answer, the four Tarot cards can mean quite contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no,’ ‘never’ or ‘not.’ These negative modifiers can apply to any one of the other cards.
*Without a question* in a group reading, the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) are more flexible. Whenever you see a pronoun in parentheses, please *feel very free* to substitute another pronoun than the one used. I try to drop pronouns when possible, which, if you’ve noticed, can make for awkward phrasing.

Now in an ‘real’ individual reading, the questioner asks a specific question and thereby supplies at least half the information! In an individual situation, the parties are identified and sometimes a time frame is too. Here, in a group reading we cannot do that and so we get a variety of sentences.

Horoscopes are group readings, too. Astrology is based on someone else’s birth data, though, so a ‘solar’ group horoscope never really solidly applies to you! (Astrologers know this!)

Tarot, on the other hand, is perfectly capable of flexibly addressing any group, including all of the visitors that come to this site. It can also address people you might not even know personally, such as all the people at your job who have a say in whether or not you get a raise.

We have been wondering here lately whether the Tarot Verbatim(TM) sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than they are for people who visit this site only once in awhile or for a short time. Would you help us with a comment please, if you have not been a regular visitor? Just let us know if the sentences are relevant to you. So far, people say they do apply.

Return to this site often and you can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim(TM) works. Regular visitors actually learn to read Rider Waite Tarot cards with very little effort.

Our Daily Spread for Mar. 16, 2011

Rider_Waite_Tarot_Spread

You overcome and get away from the atmosphere that is against your dream coming true

Nine of Cups
Three of Swords, Eight of Cups, Ace of Swords

NOTE; Pronouns for this are wide open. There is only the slightest indication (in Eight of Cups) of MALE pronouns, so adjust accordingly!
The same is true for TENSE of verbs, so use your imagination, too!
(Pronouns are he, she, it, him, her, you, we, us, them, etc. Tense is past, present, future.)

Divorce Perspective:
He/She is forced to give up on being broken up, so you get what you want.
Has to drop the divorce if he/she is to possess the good things he/she wants.
Forced by divorce to abandon the dream.
No longer has to have the divorce.
Really wants that divorce; has to get out.
The divorce, having to leave, was the best thing for you.

Pain/Suffering Perspective:
You must abandon the path that pains you to have the good life.
It’s when you no longer have to have it so bad it hurts that you get it.
Surgery is the best; it ends the pain.
It doesn’t hurt any more; that’s the main thing you want.
The pain of having to have it is gone.
Suffering is the only way out of greed.
The one and only thing (you) want is to put and end to pain.
The suffering was the only way to get (your)self onto the path (you) desired and off of the other.

Heart Attack/Stroke Perspective:
To get on the path (you) really want to be on, the heart attack/stoke had to happen
The heart attack is/was the one and only way for him/her to drop off one path and get onto the one he/she really desired to be on.

Fight/Adversity/Hostile Atmosphere Perspective:
Have to quit being hostile for the dream to come true.
Being forced out and fired was the best thing that ever happened for you/him/her.
You overcome and get away from the atmosphere that is against your dream coming true.
For you to have what you want, you have to walk away from person(s) who is/are hostile.
Must abandon this battle to have the good life.
All you want is to drop out when everything goes against you.
Wants to win this battle and get out.
Will not be satisfied until (he) wins the battle.
He emphatically does not want to fight over it.

Victory Perspective:
You won’t want to fight any more after you win.
Having it all means you won it already, there’s no fight.
Quit fighting for the one thing you want when you get it.
Wins the victory he/she/you want(s) by not engaging in battle.
Avoiding the quarrel is the best way to have the victory.
In the end you win the conflict and all is well with you.
When the battle is over, you win and are satisfied.

Even more could be made of these four Rider Waite Tarot cards, but this is enough. Two of these cards are about conflict, the Three of Swords and the Ace of Swords, respectively meaning (1) hostility or separation and (2) winning the conflict. Eight of Cups echoes the ‘separation’ theme because it means ‘abandon’; and it also announces a severe and abrupt change of course. But here comes the Nine of Cups that in any given Tarot deck will mean ‘Your wish is granted, the dream comes true.’

So in the end you win a conflict and all is well with you. There is a deeper meaning, an underlying advice to question whether the reward is worth the battle. Sometimes not striving for the reward is the way for it to come to you. Sometimes, like Odin (Father God of the Norse Myth) you sacrifice an eye for wisdom … as in the heart attack theme. (Vikings are famous for not doing things the easy way.)

Meanings and Illustrations:

Three of Swords: Conflict, strife, battle/war, heartache and hurt, injury and heart attack or stroke, surgery, pain, hostility and divorce or separation … you got that early on, what with the Rider Waite Tarot illustration being a heart with three knives through it and storm clouds with driving rain surrounding it. Some illustrations are more graphic than others, methinks.

Eight of Cups: Abandon course in midstream and take off in another direction. Drop one for the other. Something is over with. Give up, get out, avoid … in the end, there was no beginning anyway. Illustration illustrates that: Pilgrim quits going in one direction because the land ends, and heads off 90 degrees later.

Ace of Swords: A sword festooned with laurel means victory and winning, ya think? It also echoes that ‘the one thing, the primary thing, the most important’ of the Ace of Wands’ meaning, as well as its ‘have to/must/gotta’ meaning. And that’s about it: another simple graphic illustration.

Nine of Cups: Speaking of simple graphic meanings, here’s another. The fat guy ate and drank and is totally satisfied … he’s got it all and is a consumer of it all. This is about satisfaction as well as surfeit and greed. Placed after the idea of winning in the Ace of Swords previous … well he won it all, didn’t he?

Rider_Waite_Tarot_Spread

The sexy young bachelor is now an old married man

Page of Wands
Ten of Cups, Emperor, Ace of Wands

The old man of the family tells the cute young dandy what he has to do.
The patriarch of the family is forced to appear in a suit.
His greatest pride is to be an old man with his family around him who is happily married.
The old man and the young man are both members of the same prominent family.
The young man is a member of a prominent established family.

The sexy young bachelor is now an old married man.
Father tells son ‘You have to get married.’
Grandpa was a sexy young bachelor when he married.
The elder tells everyone what they have to do.
Everyone says he is a sexy old man.

God says you have to love one another.
God’s word is the authority for these people.
Federal ruling about the word ‘marriage.’

Not much variety here. We have the Emperor old man (or patriarch, or God, or federal government), and the Page of Wands young man (a well-dressed good-looking bachelor), the Ten of Cups happy family or happy marriage, and the Ace of Wands mandate or order, which also means sexy when it stands next to the well-dressed good-looking young fella there. So the old man of the family dictates to the bachelor son. Or the federal government dictates to everybody (or dictates about the word ‘marriage.’)

The nearest thing to advice we have is to marry a young man who will still be family when he is of patriarchal age.

Meanings and Illustrations:

Ten of Cups: Such a happy well-adjusted well-off family. They even had to put a rainbow over the family estate.

Emperor: He be da Boss, the supreme commander. Often a rigid dictatorial type; and it can be a woman in that role or position, too. There he sits looking august in his metal legwear, symbols of power in his hands, crown upon his head over his rosy cheeks.

Ace of Wands: Again, the authority, the boss, the order or mandate. Sexy, too: The hand with the board in it that is shaped like a penis and is abloom with sprouts as a fertility icon.

Page of Wands: He is the handsome well-dressed young man who is proud of himself and well-spoken. The illustration shows this cute guy so full of himself, very green-behind-the-ears. The card refers to speaking, language, delivering a message, being the spokesperson as well.
