Guidance

Look back and you may find that leaving some place was the best thing you ever did for yourself. Quite often not much (if anything) was wrong with the place; it was just that another fate beckoned to you from out there somewhere. ‘Out there’ can be a destination before you know where it is. Your gut tells you to head on out, but your head has not found ‘where’ on a map yet. Drifting, for some people, has been one of their most rewarding times.

Could This Be You?

Picture this: You look at the cards in your spread.
You immediately get an idea because you know a few of them intimately.
AND you know a system that works because you have had a few

Six of Swords

Leaving like refugees with ‘just the clothes on their back,’ they at least have the help of a friend who provides transport – the boat. When a person leaves a place or situation dead broke, it is a turning point in his or her (or their) life. In transit out of one place and toward another, there is a triple focus: on the transit, the journey; on the experience you are escaping; on the better life you are heading for. Six of Swords is a very moody card – both despair and hope live there – because of the turning point.

Six of Swords indicates a situation is improving, unless the other cards are a booger. Its presence is usually a hint to interpret the story you are looking at as a situation on the mend. Consider that scenario first: It is a time-saver usually.

Today Four of Wands provides the place Six of Swords is either leaving or heading toward. Four of Wands means a place, a building (a home or any other building), and an organization, including a city, state, county, nation, etc. This meaning springs from the society wedding in its illustration: The nobility were the power people and the governments back then. (Uh, they still are?)

And today Wheel of Fortune echoes the change for the better that Six of Swords usually indicates: Wheel of Fortune is the miracle, the opportunity, the change for the better or best. So Six of Swords and Wheel of Fortune both speak of the better or the best happening, today.

Just think ‘transition’ when you see the mother and son (tradition says it’s a boy) in the little boat at dusk. Six of Swords most often today means leaving, and it also means ‘heading toward’ and ‘avoided back then.’

Today Six of Swords also is about how things used to be, saying things like: don’t anymore, not anymore, not being anymore – and of course ‘used to be.’

Today Six of Swords also says a few other things in the same category we are talking about. It address the fact you weren’t home, and they were out of office. It also mentions how you avoided something back then – that turning point.

The sad mood of Six of Swords, and the way it reminds you of the Egyptian haunting myth of Charon rowing the newly dead in his boat to their fate, makes Six of Swords the card that says ‘the departed.’ It means the deceased, of course, too.

Wheel of Fortune

Wheel of Fortune is arguably the most occult card in the deck. You see various well known evil entities (the red lizard, the sphinx); you see the word ‘Rota’ which means ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ a concept from an Apollo myth; you see the Hebrew letters that mean God’s name (Jehovah, Yahweh, in English); you see the wheel looking for all the world like a roulette wheel.

Wheel of Fortune makes the point that, through coincidence, both divine and infernal (evil) entities affect our lives. So Wheel of Fortune means: chance, luck, opportunity, destiny, gambling, karma – all regarding coincidence.

In real Tarot life, though, Wheel of Fortune is only about good luck – go figure. Especially today in its present Tarot company. Strangely enough, Wheel of Fortune reminds one of the old Sears catalog, with its good/better/best designations – because it means all those words!

Wheel of Fortune is about events that happen (and happen due to a role coincidence plays), so you find Wheel of Fortune very very often translating ‘happen,’ and its forms. It sometimes translates ‘event’ or ‘occur.’

Wheel of Fortune also frequently translates both ‘wonderful’ and ‘miracle.’ It also means a big payoff, like a fantastic return on investment.

Four of Wands

Four of Wands

What we are looking at in this illustration is the official home of a power person, and the public celebration of a wedding in the family there. In Tarot Verbatim™, the three marriage cards all expand to mean community life at any level (neighborhood, city, county, region, state, nation, international), and all mean group life in any way.

So you find Four of Wands meaning: house, town, live there, place, home, country, and ‘belonging.’ Being a member of a group is an important meaning to Four of Wands. Community life.

Obviously, with a wedding as its illustration, Four of Wands means marriage and spouse and couple. And it means family and clan for the same reason. It reminds me of the Forties concept ‘of good family.’ You find Four of Wands sometimes translating ‘us,’ ‘we,’ ‘they,’ and ‘them.’ It also will simply say ‘people’ or ‘the people who,’ and ‘the crowd,’ meaning people who have something in common, or meaning just that: a crowd. It also translates ‘member’ or ‘a member of’ or even ‘member in good standing.’

The society wedding involves the power structure of the area, so you find Four of Wands talking about the Establishment, the Company, a Company man, and a stable company.

Now Without The Pictures

The situation is improving, Six of Swords says, and it involves leaving a situation or a place for a better one. Four of Wands is the place or situation, and of course it can represent either the one you are in and leaving, or the destination place.

(I am saying ‘place’ here, but Four of Wands is a marriage, a home or home life, a business or organization, as well as a neighborhood, city, state or nation.) Wheel of Fortune reassures an optimal (even a wonderful) outcome to the story. I say ‘reassure’ because all by itself Six of Swords indicates a better time is ahead.

Today Wheel of Fortune uses its most common and basic words, and no more: luck, a chance to, an opportunity, destiny, gambling, karma, it happens, it pays off, it’s wonderful – and the ‘good-better-best’ that only Wheel of Fortune does.

So our story is that whatever you are moving through is leading to something worthwhile, something even wonderful.

All by itself, Six of Swords is about graduating to a better life ahead; about leaving the family or the place you live for a better life; moving – relocating. Going overseas for a better life. Four of Wands shows up to represent the place, and Six of Swords shows up to represent the improvement.

But Six of Swords also describes the improvement happening when someone (or something) leaves you: It is a member of the ‘not anymore’ Tarot tribe. It – Six of Swords – also means recovering from something (improving).

Six of Swords means ‘I used to be,’ because it’s leaving something behind – so I used to be a member, or I used to live there, or I used to be married. Six of Swords is ‘things are better ahead’ so you left a group of people or a town, or an organization, for a better life. This would talk about leaving one company for a better position elsewhere … or leaving an educational institution (graduating) for a better future.

Six of Swords isn’t necessarily literally moving; it is withdrawing from its environment to enter a new and better phase, a ‘journey in consciousness,’ and even the journey in the afterlife (echoes of Egyptian mythology here). ‘The departed’ is one of Six of Swords’ meanings.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

               LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. …….…… …..……, Four of Wands is the tribe, the clan, the country or family or company. Page of Wands is identifying oneself with, or as, something. (I’m proud to be a Whatever.) Six of Swords is to leave one place and be on your way to a better one.

We therefore have stories about being a proud member of, or leaving for a better life. To be, or not to be: That is our question.

.. ….. Four Four of Wands and Page of Wands are: I’m proud to be a Member. A member of anything at all, of course. Page of Wands identifies himself proudly as a spokesperson or representative of a company, party, or whatever he is affiliated with. Anything.

Four of Wands and Page of Wands both emphasize being good and conforming. Four of Wands is the class of people who are like that, and Page of Wands represents an individual who is like that. You can see ‘marrying well,’ marrying into a respectable or moneyed clan, in these two cards.

Phrases that this pair (Four of Wands and Page of Wands) make are: talk to people; we are being told; people say; one of those people; one of the well-dressed people; tells the family; talks like them; the way they talk; the boy of the family; the good-looking one of the family; he is ‘of good family’ (respectable). Page of Wands is a person, and Four of Wands is a house, so these two cards also say ‘It’s his house.’

Six of Swords means ‘I used to be,’ so I used to be a member, or I used to live there, or I used to be married. Six of Swords is ‘things are better ahead’ so you left a group of people or a town, or an organization, for a better life. This would talk about leaving one company for a better position elsewhere … or leaving an educational institution (graduating) for a better future.

Four of Wands       It helps to know that the picture here is of a public celebration of a celebrity wedding, a society wedding between Very Important People. THAT is what makes this Four of Wands card mean all these membership and belonging concepts. That is what makes it about identifying oneself as a family member or company representative. That is what makes it about background and ‘roots.’

The society wedding makes Four of Wands about Establishment as well as about marriage. All the marriage cards expand membership in the family (or a couple) to neighborhood, city, county, region, state, nation, world – but Four of Wands, directly associated with the power structure, reflects the court house, political parties, large companies and corporations, public and political gatherings and public buildings.

Four of Wands is one of the marriage cards, so Page of Wands is a married fellow. He is Prince Charming – young, good-looking, well-dressed, well-spoken, clean-cut – the good guy, the ‘fair-haired boy,’ meaning the teacher’s pet.

Page of Wands      You see a young man standing up straight, fresh-faced and earnest, good-looking and well-dressed. This is the fellow starting out in life looking for his fortune, ready and willing to fit in. Pages are apprentices: They were sent to another noble family for their training in knighthood. You can see how well Page of Wands, therefore, fits with Four of Wands – the noble and respectable family.

Page of Wands belongs to the theme: speak, say, announce, talk or tell. He is the representative of a company or organization (spokesperson).

As the person who is ‘putting his best foot forward,’ who is looking his best to impress others, Page of Wands is about identifying oneself as a certain type of person, is about identifying with something, and is about being proud of who you are and what you are. This card can go one step beyond that concept to mean ‘name.’ It can also bring up the phrase ‘in the name of’ or ‘in his name’ (or her name).

Six of Swords      You see broken people leaving, being paddled away at dusk or twilight in an open boat, no luggage to their name, a mother and child. The grass is greener ‘over there’ in Six of Swords. Better times are ahead for them, partly because almost anything would be an improvement to what’s back there. Six of Swords can emphasize either end – the leaving or the better scene ahead. Today, Page of Wands presenting himself in the best possible light bends Six of Swords toward the improving situation.

Today, Six of Swords is about graduating for a better life ahead; about leaving the family or the place you live for a better life; moving – relocating. Going overseas for a better life, or going to another city to marry someone.

Six of Swords can also be about someone leaving you behind, though. When Six of Wands stands for that situation, it almost always means you are better off without the departed. Something bad is really for the best with Six of Swords: Look for that; it happens.

.

.

.

.

.

To be, or not to be; that is our question. Affiliation. Whether to be proud to be a member of the family-clan-town-country, etc. or whether to become the person we want to be by leaving. We could leaf through all the ways we are associated with all the things we are associated with, to discover who we best are.

Four of Wands – Six of Swords – Judgment

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

..…….………………   Both Six of Swords and Judgment are changes and are about going from one place, or one state of being, to another. The other card, Four of Wands, is where you are planted. So our story is obviously about changes and shifts that occur when we go from one place, or one state of awareness, to another. Judgment is about awareness or awakening, and Six of Swords is about improving a sorry state of affairs by moving on. So we’re moving today!

………………………..   Four of Wands regards where we are planted geographically and regards where we belong via our identity – via who we are right now, where our soul citizenship is. Today Four of Wands’ table-mates are moving on out, shifting, changing, and not belonging to its home base anymore. Four of Wands is marriage, family, Company, and political areas, so it is about affiliation – whereas both Judgment and Six of Swords have tickets out of that town. A society wedding indicates Four of Wands is about established order and the Establishment people.

………………………..  Six of Swords is when you move on, when the grass is so much greener over there that you leave here with the clothes on your back at the crack of dawn as the woman and child are doing in this illustration. It’s you escaping a mentality or a stifling atmosphere – a glass ceiling of any sort. Six of Swords is a change in life circumstances, a change that is hopeful because anything is better than what you are leaving behind. Repatriation of identity sometimes by death, divorce, eviction, abandonment – usually by a fairly involuntary change of circumstances: Those are our Six of Swords moments. Knight of Wands also is leaving, but the attitude there is ‘I’m outta here’ or ‘Getting out of Dodge,’ rather than the resigned twilight withdrawal you see here.

………………………..     Judgment is the call of new life, is a new phase due to a new awareness or perspective. It’s waking up to whatever you are dead to, so it’s really a new you. The picture shows the new you waking from the dead when the angel blows his horn and you’re alive in a new dimension. So Judgment is an internal shift – a new life of the soul and spirit, a breath of fresh air after the dank rot of that coffin.

Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:

..…..

Tarot Readings: A Change for the Better (Six of Swords and Judgment)

What if I hadn’t done that or gone there? What if I had had the chance to get the education I really needed to do what I really wanted or preferred? What if hadn’t married that So-and-So? ‘If’ is a big word. We wallow in ‘if’ today, turn it around and let its facets glisten and cast glints on the walls of our psyche today. We are considering a new life, a new perspective, or we would not be gazing upon our ifs so intently right now.

Four of Wands ……….  Four of Wands is belonging, affiliation, membership and citizenship – the social structure of a given area, whether the area be marriage, family, neighborhood, nation or world, whether it be geographical, political, social interest – whatever … poker players of the world, unite. Four of Wands is The Way Things Are, the established status quo. It is your background, the family and the town and the culture imprinted upon you as a result of feet hitting ground in a particular place, time, and circumstance. It is the Establishment itself, as evidenced by that illustration of a society wedding between leading families of the Whatever.

.

Six of Swords  ………….  Six of Swords is you putting all that behind you and leaving for a place or situation that’s got to be better than this. If there was any drama, it’s long past. This is your bus ride out of the gulag. Six of Swords is, yes, about improvement – and is hopeful. But its mood is resignation, even numb despair. Watch for Six of Swords as ‘the departed.’ It will probably be accompanied by Five of Cups as *mourning the past* then. Of course, Six of Swords can also simply be about moving from one place to another, whether that’s moving to a new address or to a new city or state.

.

Judgment  ………….  Judgment is waking up to new possibilities, new life. It’s a perspective that comes by way of a sudden realization, a perspective that makes a shift in the way things are for you. Six of Swords too is about a shift in the way things are outside. Judgment is a notice, an announcement, a raised voice, an alarm clock, the backfiring of an engine, or a flashback within you. Judgment means change, return, go back. It is also regeneration, reminder, re-do … almost any ‘re-‘ word.

Knight of Cups

Two of Wands – Four of Wands – Six of Swords

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

Two of Wands and Four of Wands and Six of Swords and Knight of Cups Here we have stories. We have marriage (Four of Wands), a sweet-natured boyfriend (Knight of Cups), a good solid future (financially too) (Two of Wands), and times being better than they were, or leaving bad times behind for a better future (Six of Swords). These are elements of several stories, especially when you use the other meanings of the four.

Two of Wands and Six of Swords      say the future will be better; both say ‘from now on,’ especially Six of Swords. Six of Swords is a good future because of a bad past; Two of Wands is security ahead, for certain, and also emphasizes financial security, and a long term solid state, not just the improvement we see in Six of Swords. So Six of Swords includes the past.

Two of Wands and Four of Wands      are both about security and respectability. Both involve influential money, and both involve real estate … the idea of the one(s) owning the big house. Two of Wands emphasizes financial estate, banking, mortgages, pensions and other major investments. Four of Wands is more about social standing: It shows a society wedding to express security in financial and social life, whereas Two of Wands shows the banker or owner of the town upon the ramparts of his estate looking down and planning how to get more profit from the real estate below.

Four of Wands and Six of Swords      are about leaving the family or hometown and putting it behind for better times for yourself, relocating; yet can also be about better prospects for the family as it puts some bad times behind. The bad times don’t have to be financial – can be social only, since Four of Wands is mainly social in its emphasis. The group involved does not have to literally be family, but can be, say college or a Company, or even people you have been associating with. Marrying and leaving the nuclear family is an easy reach for these two.

Knight of Cups is a friendly likeable and loveable (young) man, a salesman of goodwill, the perfect boyfriend and marital prospect. This card often calls up words like ‘accept’ and ‘invite.’ He is known for being polite, and translates ‘polite offer’ and such phrases.

Our story today makes the point (and I think we can all play this one back) that who we marry, and how we leave our nuclear family, determines our future. It is so easy and appetizing to get into a romance and let it develop into something that determines our future as we marry . And it is so much more difficult to swim out of that tank. You may relocate to a place far away from where you would prosper, and be stuck there. (Ask me how I know this.)

Two of Wands      This fellow who owns the real estate of the town below looks at it and plans how to wrest even more money out of it. He has the whole world in his hands. Money and future are the two core meanings of Two of Wands … plan and finance. So you have: financial plan, financial outlook, security and financial security, having the money to accomplish something, real estate, bank, pension, security, a sure thing, the long term. The ‘plan’ part of Two of Wands takes over, though: What it really translates most of the time is: going to, the future, will, will be, will always be, ahead, and projected.

Four of Wands      This illustration is a wedding of leading families, a public occasion held at the estate of one of the families. Marriage, a good or stable marriage, house, home, real estate, and political influence or power are common meanings for it, of course. Security in financial and social life. It is the headquarters of some political entity (any size); it is any group of people – the ‘us’ of ‘us and them,’ the good people, the Establishment. So it is a community, company, organization – even a neighborhood.

Six of Swords      Things are looking up; better times are ahead. We are putting a past behind us, headed away from a bad spot. We are leaving, headed away from something. Six of Swords can be about leaving the family and putting it behind; it can be about better prospects for the family as it puts some bad time behind. Huddled in a shallow open vessel, mother and child are paddled away, by a friend, with just the clothes on their backs. Six of Swords often says things will be better because they could not get any worse.

Knight of Cups      We all like him. He does us favors and gets us to do for him. He is the good-natured young or youngish fellow, the warm puppy boyfriend and perfect marriage prospect. He extends his hand in friendship with a drink in it, and he has the wings of Mercury the Messenger on his head.  He fits into today’s spread perfectly as the good man of good family with a good future ahead of him. His relaxed personality is expressed in the drawing with pastel blues, curved lines, and a cute horse who could be on a merry-go-round.

Two of Wands    The banker who owns the town (See the world in his hands?) is about the financial future (as well as the future generally), and financial security.  He is planning on how to wring more money from his real estate below as he stands on the finished roof of his castle or whatever.

Four of Wands   shows a society wedding to express security in financial and social life.  It is about a good marriage, being one of the good people (the Establishment, perhaps), and refers to community, company, organization (civil or governmental), and even neighborhood.  It also can be a house.

Six of Swords    Huddled in a shallow open vessel, mother and child are paddled out of the area with just the clothes they are wearing.  Six of Swords says things will be better because they have been so awful, that we are leaving the past behind us. Six of Swords can be about leaving the family and putting it behind, yet also can be better prospects for the family as it puts some bad times behind.

Knight of Cups is the good-natured, likeable young fellow … the boyfriend and perfect marriage prospect. He fits into our spread perfectly as the good man of good family with a good future ahead of him.

Today is about what divides people who are of the same family or community. Literally the four read: “Us. Them. Connect. Shun.” These four are awkward to interpret. There’s no action card, other than ‘leaving’ or ‘shunning’ for Six of Swords.

Here’s the awkwardness. Two of Cups and Lovers both refer to people being influenced by outside forces or spiritual agents: That is why, on each of these Tarot cards, you see three parties (a triangle), and wings on both the ‘outside’ party figures. See? The angel over Adam and Eve like a guardian angel, and a caduceus over the other couple also has wings. Caduceus is a bad influence or an unclean spiritual influence. Lovers means a connection, so when you put the angel into it, it means divine or angelic influence. Two of Cups means a shady or infernal influence.

Four of Wands and Six of Swords are your people, your family (Four of Wands) and the Establishment (hence, orthodoxy) and leaving (Six of Swords) and going off in a different direction. It is awkward to phrase this scene of going away from either one or the other subversive influence and toward the other, since the influences are expressed here in such an indirect way. You end up sounding preachy, and this spread is by no means preachy; it is very objective. For example, if you were a born maverick or gypsy or hippie, the way these cards are, it’s those Episcopalians or traditional folks who are the bad influence. It’s making the switch that our story emphasizes.

Six of Swords means to head away from one direction or place and head toward another better one. Lovers is the association or connection itself. Then you have Four of Wands, the Establishment and the respectable people of the neighborhood, and Two of Cups which is about a harmful influence, particularly spiritual or lustful bad influence. (Of course it also means grand love affair, the grande passion. Addiction is part of the interference-from-outside theme too.)

Four of Wands and Six of Swords is going astray from orthodoxy. The spread is more favoring the concept of going astray from orthodoxy because of the ‘temptation’ and ‘lust’ meanings of Two of Cups, which is the malefic card with a caduceus upon it.

Our story is about whether to be whatever you find yourself – a hippie or an Episcopalian; whether to stay with the characteristics and beliefs you were born into, or whether to poke your nose out the door and test the strange air.

Four of Wands (“Us.” ) Your family.  The good people, good neighborhood.  The headquarters of a major agency or corporation.  Your country.  A building or house.  Marriage, marriage as an institution.  Pictured is a society wedding, the union of leading political families.

Two of Cups (“Them.”) Is often ‘getting sucked in,’ being used, cheating or being cheated on.  It is addiction or grande passion.  It is something being done behind someone’s back as in embezzlement, conspiracy, undermining, subterfuge and sabotage. Mooches of all stripes, including bad spirits out to tempt you onto their playing field. Two of Cups is a relationship that has some undeclared motivation to it, whether from a third party or a participant. People miss the malefic bent of Two of Cups because they don’t know the caduceus (the twined snakes, lion’s head and wings symbol at the top middle of the Rider Waite Tarot card) symbolizes vampirism.

Lovers (“Connect.”) is about connecting and connection, about contact and association and partnership.  Lovers too, of course.  Its other meanings are not in use today.  The illustration shows a volcano between Adam and Eve and the angel watching over them.  The physical lovers aspect is here accentuated because Two of Cups is beside it.

Six of Swords (“Shun.”) finally gets out of there and heads off to better times.  The future ahead is better than the dismal past behind.  Shun, escape, move on. A mother and child in a boat designed for shallow water are being poled away from shore and are headed out of there poor in spirit and wearing poor clothes.

(Of course it also means grand love affair, the grande passion.Addiction is part of the interference-from-outside theme too.)

Lovers (“Connect.”)is about connecting and connection, about contact and association and partnership.

Guidance

The good people are a community, a mindset.   They are good men, often quiet, and the women who marry them.   Then there’s people who are respectable and live a comfortable life, people who marry well, don’t make waves, fit in, and are happy.   People move into and out of this mindset, this community.  A person can get into this and leave his lesser life behind, or put this way of life behind for some excitement, and hardly feel the loss.  So people leave the well-adjusted life, women leave the good man, the good marriage.   That’s okay, that’s life.   Other people are coming in.

Ten of Cups

Ten of Cups

Happily ever after living in the happy (suburban) community where everyone is prosperous and gets along.  The happy marriage.  Married with children – a boy and a girl, of course.  The good people.  This can get Pollyanna and turn into the moral majority on us.  The illustration is the house on the golf course with lots of land, a rainbow over the manse, the Mr. and Mrs. out hugging one another whilst the kids skip around, well dressed. Ten of Cups translates ‘people’ and ‘everybody.’

Four of Wands

Four of Wands

Society wedding being celebrated here uniting two families.  This is the good marriage into the good family … in the sense of ‘marrying well.’ It is about headquarters, building, affiliation with a group. Four of Wands is likely to be conservative if it represents political parties or organizations.

Six of Swords

Six of Swords

Six of Swords puts the loss behind for better days ahead, leaves a bad scene, gets out of there, escapes, moves from one place to another, or from one home to another. It is often a depressing card in Rider Waite Tarot.  A woman and child are leaving in a friend’s crude boat, like refugees. It tells you better days are ahead, which is a comfort.

King of Cups

King of Cups

King of Cups is that mild-mannered bureaucratic, sweet natured guy, maybe sentimental, a Marcus Welby type sometimes, sometimes the stereotypical quiet drunk, the weak man or the good man.  He is the ‘too nice guy, I just love him like a brother’  that women talk about.  The illustration in Rider Waite shows his throne surrounded by choppy water … emotionality.  He has that look on his face of a man who usually defers to the herd bulls.

Now Without The Pictures

Ten of Cups and Four of Wands are the two ‘happy marriage’ cards. They both also mean family, community, a group of people, well-adjusted prosperous respectable people. They both mean houses, and Four of Wands is sometimes a public building or headquarters (as in Justice and Four of Wands being the court house or the police agency).

Four of Wands means the leading family or families, power people or Establishment, any organization (agencies, clubs, companies, political associations, etc.).

Ten of Cups is happily ever after, a home, the suburbs or a good neighborhood, one big happy family, the good or friendly or well-adjusted people, friends, being happy, living together,

Continuing in this vein of happy well-adjusted respectable folks is King of Cups. His spectrum of meanings embraces the good man, your honey, the bureaucrat or a fellow with a desk type job, a gentleman or polite man or man with manners (or ‘mild-mannered man’), a patient forbearing man, the one to make peace or compromise, the drinking man or alcoholic, ‘the quiet type.’ He can also be the weak man (or be seen as weak), dull or lackluster, a Walter Mitty type. This can be the guy that women say is too nice, and ‘I love him like a brother.’ (She can simply be the type to be looking for a nogoodnik with pizazz.)

Ten of Cups and King of Cups is a happy marriage with a good man. It is ‘happily ever after with your honey,’ and ‘the man marries you who is your current love.’ This is the ‘married with children’ statement, suggesting these are his kids.

Four of Wands and King of Cups emphasizes a groom from good family, marrying well by marrying this particular member of that particular family, and also is a bureaucrat in an agency, company or other organization. It reads ‘headquarters of government.’ ‘The gentleman is married’ and ‘family man’ too.

Six of Swords is about leaving a bad scene for a better life – better because this life can’t get any worse. It also means putting your (sorry) past behind and heading in a wiser direction. It is about distancing oneself from anything, or drifting away – or about being the one left behind as another person drifts away. Although it talks about a depressing circumstance, it is comforting that things will get better, that the worst is over. Sometimes it indicates that something bad is really for the best.

Our moral today is avoiding being taken routine advantage of by your own people.  It is also about the flip side of that situation:  The family no longer has anything to do with the mooch.  A predatory person is more and more shunned (or avoided) by his own people.  If a person keeps taking advantage of his/her associates, they will distance themselves.

Tarot Readings: Avoiding Aggravation (Six of Swords + Five of Swords)

Six of Swords Five of Swords

Somehow, we pull off getting out from under this house.

I am established now; I don’t have to compete all the time anymore.

Everybody is avoiding this goofball with the bad attitude.

The powers that be quit giving us the runaround when we got nasty.

I am established now; I don’t have to compete all the time anymore.

A predatory person is consistently shunned by his or her own constituents (people).

It’s a revolving door at this company; people leave because they are taken advantage of.

If a person keeps taking advantage of his/her associates, they will distance themselves.

Tarot Readings: Escaping Family (Six of Swords + Four of Wands)

Six of Swords Four of Wands

Family has been taking advantage of me, but not anymore.

I am in the process of getting out of this abusive marriage.

I got away from marrying this guy as he got into being a wiseguy.

He is in the process of putting his overbearing ways behind him to get married.

The folks are being taken advantage of when I’m gone, so I am coming back.

The family has been intimidating him, but he is sometimes avoiding it now.

I’m putting being ripped off behind me and getting married again.

He isn’t going to be mooching off the family anymore like he always does.

Tarot Readings: Bad Attitude  (Five of Swords)

  Five of Swords

The kind of bastard who keeps leaving his family.

As soon as he left home, he turned into a punk.

The way he gets out of marrying, every time, is to turn snarly.

He is leaving another school because of bullying.

Is a rebel, getting farther and farther away from Established ways.

People in his family get in nasty moods every once in a while, and then get over it.

Tarot Readings: Miscellaneous

Every time I leave the house, I get taken advantage of again.

School is very competitive, you could find yourself on the way out.

Six of Swords

Six of Swords

A woman and child are paddled, in a crude shallow open vessel, away from someplace on a dismal day, without any possessions whatsoever. Yes, they have help leaving.  Yet this is a hopeful Rider Waite/Tarot Verbatim(TM) card:  Six of Swords is putting distance between yourself and some miasma, some dismal experience.  Getting away, escaping from, heading off, putting it behind:  Tomorrow is another – and a better – day.

Five of Swords

Five of Swords

This depicts the fellow who pretended a sword fight was for real after he won, so he takes the swords of his friends (and their lands, by the rules of feudalism.)  The guy with Bill Cheney’s smirk.  The thief, the one who takes advantage, even the mugger, intimidation … and pulling it off or being one-up on the competition.  The bastard who takes advantage. It’s getting even with the bully, or being the bully.  Sometimes it is advice to be more ruthless.

Two of Pentacles

Two of Pentacles

A juggler dressed in a stupid costume that includes a dunce cap keeps those plates moving as indefinitely as he can.  Two of Pentacles means simply ‘in the process of,’ or a continuing action, and also means a runaround, and either/or.  It often calls up the word ‘keeps’ as in ‘keeps it up.’  It means repetitive action or any cyclic motion (up-and-down, back-and-forth, round-and-round).

Four of Wands

Four of Wands

Four of Wands is family (or any community, organization or group). It’s the leading families of a given human pack … nation, neighborhood, race, religion.  The illustration shows the wedding of leading citizens, which of course is a public occasion.  The concept here extends the family all the way to nations, races and religions – wherever mass consciousness prevails.

Not too many sentences today, huh?  We have marriage (Four of Wands), a sweet-natured boyfriend (Knight of Cups), a good future (Two of Wands), and times being better than they were (Six of Swords) or leaving the bad times behind for better times.  There are several ways to make a story of these elements, especially with the fairly minor alterations that using other meanings of the cards make.

Both Two of Wands and Six of Swords say the future will be better.  Two of Wands is about the financial future (as well as the future generally), and Six of Swords says things will be better because they have been so awful, that we are leaving the past behind us.

Two of Wands is financial security, and Four of Wands shows a society wedding to express security in financial and social life.

Knight of Cups is the good-natured, likeable young fellow … the boyfriend and perfect marriage prospect.

Four of Wands and Six of Swords are about leaving the family and putting it behind, yet also can be better prospects for the family as it puts some bad times behind.

Who we marry, and how we leave our nuclear family, determines our future. It is easy to get into a romance and let it develop into something that determines our future as we marry … and much harder to swim out of that tank.  You may relocate to a place away from where you would prosper.

EXPLANATIONS:

Each and every ‘Tarot Reading’ sentence you see is a literal interpretation of the four Rider Waite Tarot cards drawn and pictured for today. (The literal interpretation is from the illustration on each card.) These sentences are put together by only combining the phrases of what each cards says. In other words, there are NO “filler” phrases added just to make full sentences, and no psychic ability or spirit guide is ever involved.

*Without a question* in a group reading to focus the answer, the four Tarot cards can mean quite contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no,’ ‘never’ or ‘not.’ These negative modifiers can apply to any one of the other cards.
*Without a question* in a group reading, the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) are more flexible. Whenever you see a pronoun in parentheses, please *feel very free* to substitute another pronoun than the one used. I try to drop pronouns when possible, which, if you’ve noticed, can make for awkward phrasing.

Now in an ‘real’ individual reading, the questioner asks a specific question and thereby supplies at least half the information! In an individual situation, the parties are identified and sometimes a time frame is too. Here, in a group reading we cannot do that and so we get a variety of sentences.

Horoscopes are group readings, too. Astrology is based on someone else’s birth data, though, so a ‘solar’ group horoscope never really solidly applies to you! (Astrologers know this!)

Tarot, on the other hand, is perfectly capable of flexibly addressing any group, including all of the visitors that come to this site. It can also address people you might not even know personally, such as all the people at your job who have a say in whether or not you get a raise.

We have been wondering here lately whether the Tarot Verbatim(TM) sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than they are for people who visit this site only once in awhile or for a short time. Would you help us with a comment please, if you have not been a regular visitor? Just let us know if the sentences are relevant to you. So far, people say they do apply.

Return to this site often and you can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim(TM) works. Regular visitors actually learn to read Rider Waite Tarot cards with very little effort.
