Queen of Wands is the practical, pragmatic woman who manages her home and business, and comes across as a no-nonsense authority figure. The Mama. She carries a big stick in one hand and a flower in the other (a sensible sunflower). Maybe the black cat means she can be devious as well as down-to-earth.
Page of Cups A fellow dressed in women’s clothes who carries a fish in a cup and has his hand on his hip (more of a ladies’ gesture) means ‘strange’ of course. Page of Cups also instructs the reader to consider putting the language where it appears into question form.
Empress This Rider Waite Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim(TM) has so many facets to it that you save it until maybe last; you don’t take it as the lead card that determines what the surrounding ones mean. Empress is usually is the beautiful or glamorous woman, and she is associated with comfort and being comfortable. She can also be the princessy, spoiled lady, even the slut. She is often the sexy lady. She can be the ideal woman. She can be pregnant. Variables galore here.
Hanged Man You know how you feel when you first realize some truth or fact that was right there under your nose all this time? You have this disoriented upsidedown hair-on-fire queasy but inspired sensation. If you run out and tell everyone about your new insight, people go “Yeah. And?” and you feel silly. In Tarot Verbatim(TM), Hanged Man is almost always an insight, new perspective, inspired notion, a thought or realization striking.
Two of our Tarot people today are women (Queen of Wands and Empress) and two are thought or awareness (Page of Cups and Hanged Man). So the message is focused and limited.
Queen of Wands and Empress are two different types of women. Queen of Wands is the practical, pragmatic woman who manages her home and business, and comes across as a no-nonsense authority figure. The Mama.
Empress has more of a spectrum to her profile. She usually is the beautiful or glamorous woman, and she is associated with comfort and being comfortable. She can also be the princessy, spoiled lady, even the slut. She is often the sexy lady. She can be the ideal woman. She can be pregnant.
Page of Cups is strange, weird, something not understood, is feeling awkward or looking silly. It also asks a question – puts the language around it into question form.
Hanged Man is realization, a thought striking, an inspiration or notion, as well as insight and perspective.
Empress with Page of Cups is about feeling perfectly comfortable about being weird. Page of Cups is a misfit, and can mean feeling ill at ease, but Empress is relaxing on all those cushions as a lady of leisure, so together they end up with self-acceptance
Page of Cups and Hanged Man are also odd bedfellows. “I can’t believe my senses.” “I feel so weird.” “He questions his urge to ….” It can say insight does not make sense, for instance.

What I notice first in this spread (always looking for action or a story) is that the only action here is Six of Pentacles in receiving or giving attention or money. That’s it.
The next thing I notice is half our spread is two well-off women. Nine of Pentacles in independent, owns and/or manages the place, is independent and very mind-your-own-business. Her companion Tarot card, Empress, is the comfortable woman who is sexy, easygoing … and also well-off.
The card that crowns these is Hanged Man – realization, the idea, it dawn upon or strikes (anyone).
Our meanings are limited, our story constrained, today. We are about being comfortable with what we have, and being fair … and about money.

Nine of Pentacles is very much the woman who is content with what she has. She is associated both with being a businesswoman or property owner and with staying at home at leisure (The snail is a hint). She is wealthy in some sense. She is associated also, very strongly, with minding her own business, and expecting others to do the same. |
Empress is the easygoing, comfortable gal who is good-looking and sexy, and is probably spoiled. She sits upon fine cushions with the female symbol on a heart-shaped shield. This Rider Waite card is all the fertility goddesses rolled into one. She can be slutty, a diva, a spoiled princessy type, or the emphasis can be on ‘comfortable in her own skin.’
Six of Pentacles emphasizes an exchange, a fair exchange, the market value of labor (or anything else). It is a justice card because the employer is weighing the pay in scales. It is about giving or receiving attention, money, or whatever.
Hanged Man Eureka, deja vu, a visionary inspiration, the subconscious itself. Hanged Man is about that disoriented feeling we get when, for the first time, something ‘dawns on’ us, or the idea ‘strikes us.’ Upside down, my hair on fire …

Each Tarot sentence is a literal-interpretation reading of the scenes pictured on the four cards you see. Only what each of the cards says – phrase by phrase – no fillers – no psychic ability used. The readings are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. Tarot, all by itself, talks to you. This is a demonstration of that .
Tarot will address any group flexibly, as it does here of ‘all the visitors.’ (It can address ‘all the people at work who have a say in my raise,’ for instance, without you knowing who or where those people are.)

Astrology has to be based on someone else’s birth data, though, so it does not solidly apply to you just because of where the sun was when you were born. (Astrologers know this.)

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no, never or not.’ That negative modifier can apply to any one of the cards.
Without a question also the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. Notice how, as much as possible, we drop pronouns, which makes for some awkward phrasing.
The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information! In a ‘real’ reading, the parties are identified (including the gender of the questioner!), and so is the time frame if there is one. In this group reading, we cannot do that, so we have variety.

Romance you want; romance you get. What else could these four Rider Waite Tarot cards get together for? We have the strong leader, the authoritative self-confident manly man (the real man) and we have the sweet young romantic guy who makes the first move engagingly. They can be the same or two fellas.
Then of course we have the ideal woman, the sexpot, the most beautiful gorgeous dame ever who is just sitting there feeling luxurious. Empress herself.
And what else? Oh. Intense feeling, realization, instinctual knowing.
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: LEARN TAROT BY THE PICTURES
King of Swords The manly man, the military man, the disciplined man, the self-confident and self-controlled dude dames dream of, he is. Tall-dark-and-handsome with great posture, the leader of the pack. His no-nonsense pose and the casual way he holds the upright weapon express how calm he is in his kingship.
Knight of Cups “Oh he’s sooo cute.” He is the troubadour, the guitar player, the sweet guy who comfortably takes the initiative in such an engaging way. He is Johnny Depp in Don Juan de Marco. Here he is in pastels and thin curved lines, holding out the cup of friendship and wearing wings on his helmet; and his horse is as cute as he is.
Empress is as confident in her femininity as King of Swords is of his masculinity: They are the perfect Leading Couple, aren’t they? The Princess and the Commander in Chief. She is gorgeous, lives the luxurious life sitting on her fine cushions with the valentine shield on which is emblazoned the very symbol of femaleness.
Hanged Man expresses the points at which the subconscious interfaces with the real-world mentality. The eureka experience, the instinctive realization, ‘getting it,’ being struck by the fact ‘I knew that.’ An intense feeling, an instinct, a feeling in your gut. The upside-down feeling you get when you suddenly see something in a totally different light or from a totally different angle. (I coulda had a V8). This upside-down man is the illustration in most all decks, not just in the Rider Waite one.
