Guidance

There’s the right way, there’s the wrong way, and there’s the Navy way, they say. Today we compare and contrast the worst and the best, with remarks like: It’s supposed to be bad for you, but it’s good for you; and ‘The worst times are average when you make the very best of them.’ In the real world, blunders pay off. In the real world, what straightens things out for me may very well be some awful experience I got myself into. In the real world, it may be my blunders that paid off.

Synopsis

We examine curiously the interplay of right and wrong, good-for-you and bad-for-you, and the long-term effect of blunders and bad experiences … how these things really play out in full spectrum. We admit that some of our most brilliant moves were mistakes, and we wouldn’t be as far ahead as we are now if we hadn’t fallen off the good-sense wagon a few times back there somewhere.

Hierophant

Hierophant

Hierophant doesn’t spread its meaning-wings in this current setting. It’s usually about the unspoken treaty people have – about the ‘face’ that greases social interactions, the slack we cut for others so they will cut us some in return. Not today. Today Hierophant’s religious meanings are to the forefront, along with proper, established ways, what should be, what is okay or acceptable, good intentions, straightening out, having enough, and looking safe. It says ‘average’ once.

Ace of Pentacles

Ace of Pentacles

If you’re on the right track, Ace of Pentacles is saying, everything goes right. It celebrates those times when we are in the groove and all’s right with the world. Today Ace of Pentacles is about ‘what’s in it for you’ – the reward, the money or benefit, the payoff, the success that ‘being on the right road’ bring. It also means the best and ‘perfectly’ today, and ‘good for you.’ Today we use the meanings of Ace of Pentacles that are most opposite to Moon’s, because that is the theme of the three Tarot citizens at our Tarot table.

Moon

Moon

Put Moon in a religious context established by its neighboring cards, and you have some hell-fire. Moon commonly means ‘worst’ and is considered widely as ‘the worst card in the deck,’ a ranking it doesn’t really merit in my opinion. So we have the worst time, and blunders, and danger and failure; we have something illegal, and aggravation, being a sinner and what’s bad for you. We have criminals and disability, and wrong. We also have ‘impossible,’ and it’s good to remember that Moon means this very common catch-all word.

Learn Tarot

Now Without The Pictures

Did you know hell isn’t just a Jewish-Christian place – that the old religions had a road to hell? They even said where it was. See those two towers in Moon there? Those marked the entrance! This place was the official end of the world where the dragons lived. The myth I’m remembering involved Apollo. The Moon pictures what occultists call ‘the Left Hand Path,’ by which they mean black magic.

Anyway, we have religion all over

here. Moon is the road to hell and all things evil and hurtful. Ace of Pentacles is the right path (lilies for purity, rose arbor for victory, money in the sky). Hierophant is appearances, behaving yourself, and the established way, the beaten path – and it shows the Roman Catholic pope. So we are all about right and wrong. So we have the church on one side, damned things on the other, and in the middle is our path. Hmm.

Ace of Pentacles is money and success too. So Moon and Ace of Pentacles together say ‘dirty money,’ and say ‘rich criminal’ … and say ‘It’s impossible (Moon) to make money.’ Moon, of course is the ‘dirty,’ the ‘criminal,’ and the ‘impossible.’ So, we have stories.

Hierophant

Hierophant

Well, as most of you know that’s the pope in the bright red robe. (I searched one time; he doesn’t wear that, it said.) And a lot of Hierophant’s meanings are what you would expect. All the ones we use today for Hierophant are. So words like these appear: right and righted, legitimate, straight, doing the right thing, you should have, the good side, respectable and respectability, well-behaved, supposed to, and clean – and church, of course.

The pope and his helpers are doing a ritual, which is what they ordinarily and routinely do, so words like that belong to Hierophant: usually, safe, normal, middle-of-the-road, ordinary and ordinarily, the way things are.

Hierophant translates words like ‘physical’ and ‘real-world.’ You could say this is because what is pictured is the mundane ritual, the physical aspect of a spiritual reality. Today Hierophant translates ‘accept,’ arising from its ‘acceptable’ category of meanings.

Two of Swords

Two of Swords

Negators like Two of Swords tend to have few meanings, and similar ones. Like ‘no’ and ‘not,’ which Two of Swords today translates close to half the time. Negators attract apostrophes: don’t, didn’t, won’t, don’t, can’t, aren’t.

Two of Swords, from its illustration, is about blocking and shutting out. No go. Counterbalance. Phrases along that line today are: doesn’t acknowledge; aren’t welcome. Today Two of Swords says ‘cancel each other out,’ for instance. The illustration also says ‘can’t see’ sometimes.

‘Stop’ and ‘end’ are also Two of Swords words. Also ‘end up’ and ‘is no more.’ And ‘roadblock.’ Occasionally, Two of Swords is ‘The buck stops here.’

Moon

Moon

A lobster is purple. A dog and a coyote are pals. Full moon over a swamp. The illustration is a scene the ancients knew as the road to a literal physical hell where the dragons lived. Those two towers were real towers you could look at in a real place, and everyone knew where the place was and did not go there.

Moon is the Left-hand Path as Ace of Pentacles is the Right-hand Path. The Left–hand Path is associated with black magic and a debauched way of life.

Illustrations rule in Tarot Verbatim™, so Moon is about bad doings, bad feelings, problems, difficulties, limitations, sickness, disability, being lost, contagion and infection, the impossible and the extreme. Moon translates words like: bad, wrong, fraud, pervert, sin, dark side, dangerous, contagion, fear, guilt, nightmare, mistake.

Moon isn’t all bad, but other cards must coax its good side out. Inspiration and The Muse are its main good side.

Learn Tarot

Now Without The Pictures

Good and bad, in Hierophant and Moon, you immediately see, if you have a little Tarot experience. So you know our readings are contrasting those. When you have a ‘ nasty’ like Moon on deck, you quickly check for ‘rescue cards,’ cards that negate, or at least lessen. And there’s Two of Swords, a classic negator.

But since Two of Swords can negate either (or both, potentially) the good or the bad, this immediately gives you contradictory readings along the lines of ‘not good but bad’ and ‘not bad but good.’ Context is king at moments like those: What is the question? What is the history? Today these three cards can say ‘Get lost and end up where you are supposed to be,’ or you can double-dip. Two of Swords and end up where you’re not supposed to be. Context rules. (And sometimes you should ask another question.)

Directly connecting Hierophant and Moon (leaving out Two of Swords) calls for using the alternative meanings of at least one of them because otherwise you are welding together phrases like ‘a decent pervert.’ Some of those make some sense, of course (How about ‘hates church’?). So fewer of the one-sentence readings are Hierophant and Moon.

On the other hand: Those lost years are what keeps me from being pedestrian; I am not dull because I have suffered, in other words. The worst is over anyway and we are here in the real physical world.

The Left-hand Path is associated with black magic and a debauched way of life.

Now Without The Pictures

Good and bad, in Hierophant and Moon, you immediately see, if you have a little Tarot experience. So you know our readings are contrasting those. When you have a ‘nasty’ like Moon on deck, you quickly check for ‘rescue cards,’ cards that negate, or at least lessen. And there’s Two of Swords, a classic negator.

But since Two of Swords can negate either (or both, potentially) the good or the bad, this immediately gives you contradictory readings along the lines of ‘not good but bad’ and ‘not bad but good.’ Context is king at moments like those: What is the question?; What is the history? Today these three cards can say ‘Get lost and end up where you are supposed to be,’ or you can double-dip Two of Swords and end up where you’re not supposed to be.

So fewer of the one-sentence readings are Hierophant and Moon.

.

Hierophant You can think of good ol’ Hierophant as the late Moral Majority. Hierophant is about reality really being okay and safe and normal and decent, about ‘what you see is what you are getting.’ What you see here is the pope doing a routine ritual that means something to him and his fellow professionals that the public doesn’t get. So he and those monks or priests are the incrowd.

.

Dig a tad deeper, and Hierophant is all about that unspoken unacknowledged understanding – I call it a treaty – that we all as individuals and as collectives (groups, organizations, families, believers in this or that, etc.) present to one another and agree to abide by … when we all know better in our heart of hearts. It’s called ‘face,’ and sometimes ‘keeping a straight face.’

.

Ripping the clothes off this figurative emperor has dire penalties. Doing that, you are a maverick, no longer entitled to the benefits of membership … such as they are. There’s a feeling in your gut when you are about to pull off one of these daring acts. The fear often is a guilty feeling combined with the heady thrill of getting away with something forbidden. Some people are born to dare. Most cows stay in the conservative fence where the grass has fewer weeds, with a straight face.

.

Today Hierophant lives in a story about good and bad, dangerous and safe, so its meanings for now are about that. Here are some of Hierophant’s words and phrases that express that dichotomy (that difference) : healthy now; look fine, go to church; the mean, the being okay; so good; perfectly acceptable; ordinary time; doing the proper thing; put the best face on; straight; the right way; middle-class life; safe; where we are supposed to be; just the usual; perfectly normal; has its good parts; everything’s all right.

Two of PentaclesHow does Two of Pentacles come to mean – commonly – both regularity like clockwork, and silly instabilities? Easy. The ships tossing behind him are dancing on crazy waves, while the juggler in the foreground is dancing while he juggles. All those movements make Two of Pentacles commonly mean almost any movement.

.

Today Two of Pentacles is concentrating on his iffy meanings because to his left is the pope and to his right is the road to hell, and here he means ‘could go either way’!

.

So here are the phrases that, under these odd circumstances, Two of Pentacles comes up with: sometimes; dizzy; part-time; getting back to _ after; regularly when; the cycle goes from _ to _; kinda _ but so far; once in a while; ups and downs; every time; the part of my routine; keep trying; almost; a little of both; keep finding humor; kinda; one after another; swings; an occasional; winding; made it through.

Moon It’s always good to see Moon in such good company. Moon can be a whiff from the sewer. Look at Ace of Pentacles: It is ‘the right road,’ ‘the right path,’ the straight and narrow, and it suggests that good living is rewarded with success or even money. So Ace of Pentacles is The Right-hand Path, but Moon is The Left-hand Path or the road to hell. (The pagans got hell before the Christians did, by the way!)

.

People back then who believed in the flat earth believed it ended in a certain place where these two evil towers were (see), and the dragons lived just past the towers. That place was hell. And The Left-hand Path is about dark magic.

.

So Moon means anything awful, sick, scary, perverted … any kind of a mess. It can simply mean disorder, dirty, or a bad dream – and if you put the right cards around it, it is about poetic inspiration – The Muse. Which seldom happens.

.

Here are today’s Moon meanings: crazy, sick, mess, bad time, feeling guilty, awful, scary, to fail, crazymaking, feels all wrong, the worst part, the wrongs, scared, there’s the wrong way, the dark side of, stagnant, a dangerous road, mistake, wild, disability, road to hell, the night.

Tarot Readings for You for July 30, 2014 Wednesday(c)

Guidance     Here we are in the box with good and evil from the perspective of a closed mind, summoning up ghosts of antique cliches. We have not lost our humor, though! We can still say things like “People who know better make the best mistakes,” “To live outside the law, you must be honest,” and “With good intentions, you do the most harm” and even “Do what’s right even if it’s wrong.” Our point is to unmask the way we are supposed (programmed) to think by presenting it nakedly, straight-no-chaser. In the worst of times, you have to be damn straight, and that is what we are being about today’s brittle moralisms, okay?

.

Are YOU here for the first time?  Come in!

Now,  Part Two,

Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim™ thing works? If so,

*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing section below. This tells about the combined three pictures in the Tarot Readings – the pictures above here.  It explains how these three cards get together in your mind to make the messages. HERE ARE PHRASES FOR ALL THREE 2-CARD COMBINATIONS is a stream-of-consciousness bridge to your subconscious if you use it regularly – people report.

*Go to Learn Tarot by Pictures.  It is what each of the three cards, by itself, has to say.  It shows you how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in today’s Spread. All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim™.

You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim™ works.

This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contradictions – and also the pronouns are more flexible. If it feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ and you’re a ‘she,’ feel free to adopt it anyway.

.

………………….………………….

Hierophant – Ace of Wands – Moon

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

……….…………      Here we have ‘good’ and ‘evil’ per se, and the card in between means ‘totally.’ Or we have church on one hand, hell on the other, and a mandate in between. So we are limited to moralistic material. What to do? – find some redeeming social value in humor, such as ‘Do what’s right even if it’s wrong’ and ‘With good intentions, you do the most harm.’ I thought of other aphorisms (sayings) that fit these cards.

………………………..Hierophant is the pope, and the underlying meaning of Hierophant is the ‘face,’ the respectable veneer of things and the official mainstream version that is for the public – not just hypocrisy of religions and religious people, but of you and me and all our organizations, structures, tribes and families. It refers to the artifice and the pretense that is civilization. The card stands for reputation, behaving, decency, being honest, and, yes, religions and church. It stands for not being harmful too. It translates ‘should’ and ‘ought to’ often. It is the old ‘keep a clean nose’ saying.

………….…………..     Moon is ‘the worst card in the deck,’ although I prefer it to some other predominantly nasty ones, myself. It stands for the word ‘worst.’ It means, evil, mistake, perversions, serious illness, disaster … anything awful. It refers to the Left-hand Path or road to hell in its illustration. It means curse words – instructs and invites the reader to write or say one. With Hierophant covering the base of ‘good’ today, the good side of Moon is obscured.

……….……….……….   Both Moon and Ace of Wands can be about brutality and punishment, especially Ace of Wands. Together, the two of them easily say ‘sexual perversion’ and ‘absolutely wrong.’

……………….……….    Both Hierophant and Ace of Wands are rigid. ‘There is only one right way,’ they say. Behave or be punished, they say, because Ace of Wands is enforcement and penalties and punishment. Together they say ‘have to conform.’ This would apply generally, as in a building code, for instance.

Hierophant   ……….    Hierophant is strait-laced, conservative, old-school and even pedantic (childishly morally superior) today. This card in Tarot Verbatim™ is about ‘physical,’ the surface of whatever the subject is, the ordinary mundane daily routines and sentiments. It is a factual, neutral card, but it exposes the trappings of what passes for civilization. It is religion and respectability, not spirituality. It is keeping a clean nose and being right. It is behaving yourself and being accepted and acceptable. It is also being honest. ‘Should’ and ‘ought to’ belong to Hierophant. Put it next to one of the many positive spiritual Tarot cards, and you get spiritual religion.

.

Ace of Wands   ………….    Ace of Wands makes its point forcibly, with a club. It means ‘have to’ and must – an imperative. Ace of Wands is primacy, primary, the most important, Number One … Da Boss. It’s also sex and brutality, since the club resembles a penis. Ace of Wands is as rigid as Hierophant. Since Ace of Wands is force and enforcement, it makes the religiosity and the narrowness of Hierophant involuntary: The religious police! It stands for making a point, for getting your point across – and sometimes means a pen.

.

Moon ……….   Hideous, horrible and terrible are Moon words. So are fear, terror, and horror. So is worse and worst. Miasma is the best word for Moon, and it can easily translate ‘chaos’ and ‘fucked.’ The illustration is the Left-hand Path, the esoteric equivalent of ‘road to hell.’ The towers there are symbols of evil; the lobster is going on a land journey; the coyote and dog (enemies) are fraternizing. In its current setting with Hierophant, you have the kindergarten level of morality.

Our Daily Spread October 23, 2012 Tuesday©

Guidance   Ever notice no matter how repulsive a person’s behavior and values are, they manage to put some kind of an acceptable moral face on themselves? Ever wonder why they bother? – or how they can think they are okay? Yet there’s nothing like a walk on the wild side that turns out scary to wonderfully rearrange a person’s values and behavior. Today we poke our noses into the wrong side of the street.

Are YOU here for the first time? Come in! People love this place! Full instructions are at the bottom.

Guidance and the Tarot Readings are for you if you just want your daily look ahead. “Guidance” is the summary, followed by your word for word Tarot Readings from the four Rider Waite Tarot cards you see pictured here. He isn’t afraid anymore to make a public romantic commitment.

He is so self-assured, he isn’t afraid to be upfront about being attracted to you.

Avoids openly declaring his love, out of fear.

Going out of your mind because the boyfriend who seemed so committed left you.

He loves you in the physical reality, the real world, and he isn’t one of the crazies of your past.

A man who loves you and is your helper in the physical world gets you over the worst of it.

It’s a mistake to take the initiative romantically, and right to avoid it.

Tarot Readings: The Messed-up Boyfriend (Knight of Cups + Moon)

A fucked-up mellow guy can get you away from your normal life.

Just when you are putting this messed-up situation behind you, boyfriend comes to you to commit.

This boyfriend is a big mistake, he isn’t one of us normals.

Boyfriend problems are ending your normal life.

Loverboy is crazy, and you are headed away from safe ground.

Putting the dangerous world behind you with a nice safe loving boyfriend.

This isn’t the usual crazy normal boyfriend behavior.

I don’t hate him anymore, he’s just the usual #%&* boyfriend.

Tarot Readings: Helps (Knight of Cups)

Out of affection, he voluntarily helps out in mundane daily ways so you can avoid things being a mess.

With his assistance, things are as they should be, and the trouble is over with.

He comes to make things function normally when they are broken down, and then he is off.

He usually helps people get on their way when they break down on a trip.

When your delusional phase is over, you can be a help in the real world.

Tarot Readings: The Good Side

His good side is putting his bad side behind.

His good image was tarnished, but those days are over.

Getting over his distaste or fear of being a good boy.

We get off the wrong path at the suggestion of a devout friend.

Agrees to ‘do it by the book’ or cooperate with the rules and ‘be good,’ to get out of trouble.

Accepts the correct theology from the church, to avoid hell.

This is the wrong time to cooperate, and the right time to get out of there.

A good guy fights dirty, isn’t always ‘fit to print’ good.’

He is a truly decent person, having put a life of debauchery or crime behind him.

I’m not making the mistake of accepting that as proper anymore.

Tarot Readings: Getting Over It (Six of Swords)

Putting the harm behind that was caused by a friend with good intentions.

Getting over the (physical) death of a beloved person or pet.

He gets over his mental or physical illness (or addiction) and is a healthy (young) man.

Just when you are putting this messed-up situation behind you, boyfriend comes to you to commit.

In this peaceful atmosphere, he calmly accepts that the worst is truly over.

A friend comes to physically help you over the worst of it.

Getting over sickness with the physical help of a friend.

Your friend will get over the craziness and be okay.

He is being his public-relations self to get past the screwup.

Accept that normal life as you knew it was a delusion, and get over it.

Putting the dangerous world behind you with a nice safe loving boyfriend.

He is being polite and neutral until you get over your grieving.

Helped to safety, gets out of the danger zone.

Putting a horrible experience behind with a friend who is safe.

Leave this hideous town for one that’s friendly and safe.

Tarot Readings: Things as They Are (Hierophant)

It’s difficult to get over the mainstream values you accepted.

I don’t agonize over it anymore, I just accept whatever is.

Having an official boyfriend isn’t a problem for me anymore.

Putting the dark side behind and engaging with whatever’s the norm.

Things had to get their worst before they got better for him to accept things as they are.

Tarot Readings: Illness, Addiction, Vices, Craziness (Moon)

Getting over a vice, being moral and being polite.

Putting his mistakes behind him and accepting a religious regimen.

His demons leave, and he is his normal friendly self again.

His healthy self is recovering from infestation.

He is a truly decent person, having put a life of debauchery or crime behind him.

I’m not as crazy as I used to be, I’m accepted as a friend now.

Miscellaneous Tarot Readings:

An agreement to hold harmless puts that fear behind us.

A night departure will be a safe trip for the young man.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

When you see Moon and Hierophant together, you know ‘Something’s up.’ Moon is the dark side, is abnormal; Hierophant is whatever is officially accepted as good and respectable, and means ‘normal.’ Neither of them will yield an inch on their respective territories.

Then you see Six of Swords. Whew. It means bad things are getting better, the worst is over (and Moon means ‘the worst’) and putting something (the vice of Moon) behind you for a better life.

Lastly, we have the helpful young man, also known as The Warm Puppy boyfriend or the friend (whereas one of Moon’s meanings is ‘enemy.’ He is polite and behaves himself, and Hierophant also means conventional, accepted behavior.

So right in the middle, we have the problem or the dark side, and surrounding it, we see ‘good stuff’: The good man, the good side, and things are getting better. That’s our story.

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

Knight of Cups is civil and civilized. He is the good friend, the first to offer to help (and do it). He has an engaging personality and is outgoing (makes the first move, introduces himself). He is cute: See how he and the horse he rides in on are drawn in curved lines and colored in pastels?
Moon is when you’re lost, crazy, ill, grieving – the dark side and the worst of times. Moon is when nothing makes sense and you know it. Moon is the creepy atmosphere and bad spirits that infest it. Moon is bad magic and hell, and whatever is odious to us.

Hierophant is whatever’s fit to print … is ‘face.’ It is specifically about the public teachings of a religion (That’s the pope there in the red robe.) as opposed to its actual ones to cognoscenti. The same way righteous people present that moral ‘face’ to the world. The same way we all tell ourselves we are right and the world is wrong about us.

Six of Swords Better times are ahead because we are getting out of here, getting over this, putting that situation behind us. Leaving with the shirt on our back but looking ahead hopefully in the dismal fog.

I N S T R U C T I O N S & Explanations (Comments are below this.)

Did you come here just for your predictions? – If so, you are done when you finish reading the sentences of Group Analytical Tarot Cards Reading.

Each Tarot sentence is a literal-interpretation reading of the scenes pictured on the four cards you see. Only what each of the cards says – phrase by phrase – no fillers – no psychic ability used. The readings are about you and the people around you.  They are about today and the days around it. Tarot, all by itself, talks to you. This is a demonstration of that .

Tarot will address any group flexibly, as it does here of ‘all the visitors.’ (It can address ‘all the people at work who have a say in my raise,’ for instance, without you knowing who or where those people are.)

Horoscopes are group readings too.

Astrology has to be based on someone else’s birth data, though, so it does not solidly apply to you just because of where the sun was when you were born. (Astrologers know this.)

Emily wants to know whether these sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than for people who have come only a few times. Would you help with a comment, if that is who you are? Please?

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things,  especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no, never or not.’ That negative modifier can apply to any one of the cards.

Without a question also the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) in a group reading are more flexible,  especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads.  When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute.  Notice how, as much as possible, we drop pronouns, which makes for some awkward phrasing.

The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information! In a ‘real’ reading, the parties are identified (including the gender of the questioner!), and so is the time frame if there is one. In this group reading, we cannot do that, so we have variety.

Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim ™ thing works? If so,

*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing. This tells the thinking regarding the combined four pictures in the Daily Spread –  the pictures above here.  It explains how these four cards get together in your mind to make the message.

*Go to Learn Tarot by the Pictures.  This is the meaning of each separate card.  This is how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in this Spread.

You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim ™ works. Regular visitors actually learn to read Tarot without trying. The Tarot Talks tab has some examples for students.
