Three of Pentacles
Three of Pentacles is THE relationship card. When in doubt, lay that ‘relationship’ word on this card, because it covers dealing with, and it covers coming to agreement or settlement with – anybody in any area of life. So Three of Pentacles is dealing with other people, and it’s a relationship, and it’s you doing your part and/or they doing their part in said relationship. Networking is included in this, of course.
Three of Pentacles is also any kind of meeting, whether a scheduled business meeting or running into someone on the street, or a get-together for sex, or a world peace congress – any meeting whatsoever.
Three of Pentacles owns ‘fair and square’ and doing [add any possessive pronoun] part in anything. It is also a legal card about coming to agreement, court hearings, settling up, contracts.
These meanings come about because the picture is a meeting a general contractor and architect is having with clients, who hold the blueprint for the building while he explains how he has done his part fair and square and deserves to be paid his final draw (which is his profit) – so they are coming to agreement.
Empress
This is one of those all-over-the-place cards if you know all or most of its habitual meanings. What you see is a beautiful sexy lady who is pregnant and taking it easy in her beautiful life. So this is the card for pregnant-anything. Remember, Empress arises from fertility goddesses. The meaning comes from being a ‘3.’ The first few cards in Rider Waite Tarot, whose source is Golden Dawn, derive their meanings from what that numbers means in occult or esoteric circles.
So Empress is relaxed (laid back, literally, there), easygoing or phlegmatic; is a resource and hence is resourceful (the pregnant state); is enjoying life; is beautiful; lives well and can be spoiled or adored; is the ideal woman, the Goddess, or the trophy dame. Hers is also a peaceful life.
Apply this card last, because it can be the easygoing gal, the gal who is a resource (talent) for others, the spoiled gal, the gal who others provide for, the woman with money, the slut, and the ideal or trophy woman.
Ten of Pentacles
Tarot Verbatim’s ™ Ten of Pentacles is not anyone else’s. What you see in the picture is a family disagreement and a power play by the patriarch that Son is going along with, and they are not listening to the wife. Imagine that. The dogs know who’s boss here. Emily suspects imperial grandpa wants another progeny – a boy this time. Whatever it is, something’s in it for son/husband who turns away from pleading mother/wife and stares into space.
And Tarot Verbatim™ adopts meanings from illustrations, and from ‘the field,’ from reading after reading’s use for that particular card. What you see is what you get: people disagreeing, family trouble, people who are a problem and people who have a problem from them. That’s Ten of Pentacles slogan: Troublemakers and the trouble they make for people in their circle.
Dysfunctional. That, and its less-polite terms are Ten of Pentacles words. To Five of Wands’ left is Strength, who finesses conflict, who deftly handles intrusions and nips opposition in the bud through her level of maturity, her spiritual expertise. To Five of Wands’ right is Six of Swords: the waning influence, leaving the scene, not anymore, and life is going to be better from now on. Yeah: stories.
Strength……. Strength tames the beast. Strength ahead of time prevents opposition, and makes the foe or intruder happy to be handled by her. The lion, there, is purring – not that he wants to – and her hands on his snout and jaw are stifling the roar. A spiritual adept naturally repels trouble and troublemakers the same way a martial artist repels muggers. The process is simple: Being ready for the scene, and being able to not only handle it, but handle it without getting dirty.
Note that Strength is about preventing or quashing a fight, and together Five of Wands and Six of Swords say there’s no fight anymore.
The sideways ‘8’ is a math sign for infinitely repeating series of numbers (like for the one-third fraction’s decimal equivalent, .333 and on forever). For you word buffs, it’s a lemniscate. It signifies ‘This person lives in infinity or eternity.’ Other symbols of spiritual rank, strength and expertise for Strength are the white robe and the flowers on it.
So Strength is about spiritual overcoming. That applies, in the practical application of this card, not only to overcoming opposition and intrusion and interference, but also to overcoming one’s internal issues, vices and habits.
Five of Wands.…….Five of Wands is obviously – looking at the picture – about conflict, fighting, competition, heavy physical activity (exercise, sports, trying hard, putting a lot of energy into what you are doing) resisting, being against or opposing. Five fellows are wielding logs, sparring with them. Intense involvement is one of its applications that isn’t about conflict. Note that physical activity is only part of its application: Just being opposed will call for Five of Wands.

Six of Swords……...Six of Swords is getting over it, getting out, putting it behind, and ‘not anymore.’ It signifies an improvement – usually an improvement in a difficult situation. It is avoiding, evading, leaving a scene, and life goes on. Six of Swords is very flexible. Remember, its focus can be upon the getting out, or on the journey or process of getting out, or on the arriving at a better scene. Things are better ‘over there’ because they are awful ‘over here.’
You see what we presume is a mother and child huddled in a shallow paddle boat under the gray sky of twilight or dawn, leaving with no cargo, with the help of a friend who is paddling for them.
Six of Swords can be about travel, travel ‘over water,’ travel overseas, or a journey in consciousness. It can also be ‘the dear departed,’ the sadness of being left behind by someone who has gone on.

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

Strength fixes a situation, hands-on. She nips opposition in the bud by being who she is: a person capable of handling this situation. She makes people or entities harmless who are a threat; she makes people behave according to her standards. She is take-charge and strongly associated with the spiritual plane. The lion came at her to roar and stayed to purr because she is Strength.
Magician sometimes simply calls up the male pronoun or the word ‘man’ or ‘male.’ It also evokes all forms of the verbs ‘do’ and ‘make.’ You can think of this card as ‘male who does’ or ‘make it happen.’ It means action and activity too. To bring about or create, to bring down. Illustration shows the upraised wand in the hand of the magician, the tools of the ceremony on his table, depicted as the suits of the Tarot.
Six of Swords There’s only one way to go when you’re all the way down, and that’s up. That is the core meaning of Six of Swords: leaving the dismal scene for a better day, a better place. Withdrawing to fight another day. A friend drives her and her child out of there in his boat, as refugees: clothes on their back type thing. Its most common words are ‘avoid’ and ‘leave.’ ‘Delay’ and its synonyms are common as well. Here are some of its today meanings: procrastinating, bypass, clear out of, on his way, out of the way, doesn’t anymore, puts behind, isn’t there any more, without doing anything, out of town, until it’s over.
High Priestess High Priestess as the female principle is receptive (passive) on the physical plane, and means knowing or expertise. She is active on the spiritual (and mental) plane, and therefore often means ‘spiritual.’ It often calls up ‘she.’ This is the quiet woman, the person behind something, a backer. Emphasis is on knowing and knowing secrets. Illustrated as a seated woman with a spiritual book and all sorts of occult symbols around her. She is the knower, the expert, the guru about anything. This whole story is about women because two of the four Tarot citizens at our Rider Waite table today are women.
Empress is the sexpot, the babe, the princess, the spoiled woman, the beautiful woman, and can be the loose woman as well as the ideal woman. The seeming contradictions are explained by the fertility goddess this Rider Waite Tarot card reflects, who of course is all of these, and potentially pregnant too.
Queen of Cups is the good wife who thinks of her man, admires her man. She dreams and she thinks – the stereotypical emotional woman who runs on feelings and is ‘good.’ Naive, even.
So we have these two archetypes of femininity here. And wouldn’t you know here comes a fella ‘on the make,’ a guy with an agenda to get his way with the situation? Six of Wands is about betrayal and using another person, so it is suited to seduction in the Rider Waite Tarot Verbatim ™ system. Six of Wands can also be the indicator of Empress being ‘on the make’ or even attach itself to Queen of Cups.
And the other card is Ace of Swords: to control, to dominate, to force, to win. It also translates ‘have to’ and ‘must.’
Our story today is the eternal man-woman saga, par excellence.

Empress is the sexpot, the babe, the princess, the spoiled woman, the beautiful woman, and can be the loose woman as well as the ideal woman. The seeming contradictions are explained by the fertility goddess this Rider Waite Tarot card reflects, who of course is all of these. Her illustration shows her sitting upon a fine cushion outdoors where everything is growing, wearing a bejeweled tiara, and having a heart-shaped shield with the female symbol upon it. Tradition says she is pregnant. (We are not mentioning meanings that do not apply today: Empress is a multifaceted entity.)
Six of Wands is the deceit and agenda Tarot card in Rider Waite and Tarot Verbatim ™. It is one of the cards the Middle Ages added, and it reflects the story of the betrayal of King Richard Third of England to the Arabs, who imprisoned him at the behest of the usurper to the throne. This is the Pyrrhic victory, the victory that seals a later defeat. This is your friend who seduces the person you love. This is your spouse who doesn’t make the mortgage payments until the house is repossessed and gets the money for the expensive lawyer to beat you in the divorce that way. Et cetera. The look on the face of the horse in the illustration tells all.
Ace of Swords is so straightforward. Here’s a hand holding aloft a sword that has a crown with laurel leaves (victory) on it. It means absolutely, it means ‘all one way’ and none the other way. It means you gotta, must, forced, an order, to dominate. It represents a clear victory for one side and a clear defeat for the other
Queen of Cups is The True Believer. She has faith in (her man). She believes in (her man). She is emotional, she dreams – not an analytical sort. Her stereotype is the southern young woman (in the U. S. Bible Belt). She is pictured contemplating a funky antique, water (emotions) surrounding her throne. Sculpture of babies are on her throne, and there is no vegetation whatsoever, just rocks and water.

All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim(TM).
In these group readings, there’s no question (and no Questioner) to limit what the four cards can mean, so they can mean opposite things.
When there is a negative-meaning card (a ‘negator,’ I call them), the readings contradict one another because that card can make any of the other cards in the spread negative. Negator cards mean things like: no, never, not, end, can’t, etc. Never be queasy about the number of ‘bad’ card because it takes two bad cards to say ‘not dead’ and only one to say ‘dead.’
Without a question or a Questioner, pronouns (I, you, he, she, we, they, etc.) are very flexible. I leave out pronouns in writing this as much as possible – awkward to do that sometimes. When I put them in parentheses, feel very free to change them around to suit yourself.
Now in a ‘real’ individual reading, the questioner asks a specific question which provides at least half the information! In an individual’s reading, the parties are identified and sometimes a time frame is too. Here, in a group reading, we cannot do that and so we get more variety of sentences.
Horoscopes are group readings, too. Astrology is based on someone else’s birth data, though, so a ‘solar’ group horoscope never really solidly applies to you! (Astrologers want you to know this!)
Tarot successfully addresses the group of visitors, whoever they are. It provides useful information that applies to their daily lives: They tell you this in the comments, for three years now. Tarot can tell you things about people you don’t know personally – such as whoever on your job has a say in your raise or continued employment there, whether that is one person or many. Visitors report that the information is equally accurate for new visitors as it is for the family of regular visitors.

Miscellaneous Tarot Readings A person who is getting over it feels stronger until finally they are normal.
Is coming under intense pressure to conform.
She is entitled to be the winner, and you can see it going that way.
My perspective on her problem is she should not handle it the usual way.
In Strength, we have overcoming and setting something that intrudes, invades or interferes straight, and we have being adept spiritually. Strength’s influence straightens situations or problems out, and makes people behave.
In Hanged Man, we have ‘higher consciousness,’ enlightenment, seeing a new perspective.
In Hierophant, we have mundane consciousness, behaving, the usual routines of the physical realm. It means ‘should,’ it means ‘entitled,’ it means orthodoxy, and it means ‘religious.’
So Hierophant and Strength are about right behavior, and Hanged Man and Strength are about higher consciousness.
Our odd man out is Six of Swords, and, yes, he is heading out, avoiding, getting gone, ducking out, and headed in a direction (usually away). (He can tell he doesn’t belong in this Tarot crowd.)
Six of Swords has put it behind and isn’t (whatever) anymore.

Six of Swords Huddled on a gray day in an open boat, a mother and child withdraw from here ‘with just the clothes on their back’ and go to another life that has to be better because of how awful this one is. Six of Swords is a depressing and also a hopeful Rider Waite Tarot card. It is about putting the past behind and going forward. It is when you are heading out, avoiding, getting gone, ducking out, and headed in a direction (usually away). Often, Six of Swords is about ‘anymore,’ about not being (whatever) anymore. It is usually a withdrawing, a gradual change, a fading out or fading away from something you have no use for … anymore.
Hierophant That’s the pope in the red robe, doing a ceremonial routine. We think of popes as being ‘proper’ personified, so this Rider Waite Tarot card means things like should, ought to, entitled, conform, normal, what one is used to, the usual or usually, straighten out or be straight, safe, behave, decent, respectable, right, approved or accepted, valid, official, programmed, and assumptions. It also refers to religion, religious, and churches or other religious buildings.
Hanged Man In Hanged Man, we have ‘higher consciousness,’ enlightenment, seeing a new perspective. Somewhere in our brain that we are not privy to, we work out these realizations. Suddenly and brightly a headline boinks us over the head, we see stars, and we ‘get it.’ Deja vu, visions, muse visitations, flashes, insights, new perspectives, psychic awarenesses, spiritual experiences: These disorient our waking state and we feel upside-down with our hair on fire like this illustration.
Strength Strength is overcoming: See her pet the monster who is purring through clenched teeth. Strength is quashing bad behavior, exerting an influence, taking control or taking charge, making a solution and nipping opposition in the bud.
As I get farther and farther away (6 of Swords) from orthodoxy, here,(Hierophant), I realize (Hanged Man) this is me handling things for myself (Strength).
Has radar (Hanged Man) for what he is used to (Hierophant): a woman who will get him to do things her way (Strength) as time goes by (6 of Swords).
