Tarot Verbatim
Guidance Today we are musing upon the back-and-forth trajectory of our lives on earth, and pointing out the fun of that. It’s one kind of fun to fall off the wagon of, say, a bad habit, and another kind of fun to get back on the horse that threw us: Each are chapters. There’s a time to be responsible, even to run the rat race, and a time to be irrepressible, uninhibited and spontaneous. That’s called vacation or ‘blowing this joint’ sometimes. Today we suggest that both directions have their place, that striking a balance even day by day is ‘good for us.’ All work and no play, you know – or all play and no work – make Jack a boring kid.

Now, Part Two,
Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim™ thing works? If so,
*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing section below. This tells about the combined three pictures in the Tarot Readings – the pictures above here. It explains how these three cards get together in your mind to make the messages. HERE ARE PHRASES FOR ALL THREE 2-CARD COMBINATIONS is a -of-consciousness bridge to your subconscious if you use it regularly – people report.
*Go to Learn Tarot by Pictures. It is what each of the three cards, by itself, has to say. It shows you how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in today’s Spread. All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim™.
You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim™ works.
This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contradictions – and also the pronouns are more flexible. If it feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ and you’re a ‘she,’ feel free to adopt it anyway.

.………..………..………..………..
Devil – Sun – Knight of Swords
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
.
………………….…………………… Devil is very general in its application, and its various applications rule here because the other two Tarot cards (Sun and Knight of Swords) both mean to get out of, and one (Sun) means specifically to be free of. So our general theme is getting out of something troublesome – except for that double meaning of Knight of Swords: to go back, to revert, to turn back. Knight of Swords also says ‘again.’ So we will have some exceptions to our theme of getting out of the bad place.
………………………….. Devil’s core meanings are attachment and vice in Rider Waite. (Rider Waite arises unapologetically from Christian culture.) See the loose chains around the necks of its humans there? Their attachment to the dark side or down side (or their vices) is voluntary.
Another major category of meanings for Devil is limitations. Limitations brings many otherwise-unrelated meanings for this Rider Waite Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim™. Handicap, harmful habits, addictions, illness and mental illness, pain and suffering, nasty rude ornery personalities, black moods and depression, being forced or having no choice, being stuck, fear, and paralysis (including paralysis of will).
Of course Devil means evil and bad – the dark side in general. This brings in meanings such as filth, contagion, contamination, toxic substances or environment, mold and fungus, noxious smells and substances (and people). It also brings in guilt and sin and literal demons as well as figurative demons. Devil’s illustration shows the influence of evil due to connection it, with the devil. Devil is ugly too – and the ugly side of things.
(Now go look at Lovers. This card takes the same idea re connection with things divine. You see the two nude humans drawn in a similar way to Devil. This parallel was obviously intended by the artist and the designer of the deck. Christian concepts abound in Rider Waite. (Note there are no chains on Adam and Eve in Lovers). This same type of parallel is to be found in Ace of Pentacles, Right-hand Path, and Moon, Left-hand Path. The guardian angel overlooking the couple represents protection of the divine – instead of chains being the connection in Devil.)
……………..………….. Knight of Swords is moving fast, is in hot pursuit of something. It can mean to turn around fast and go in the opposite direction, and even to flee, so this is not a lead card; it is a support card for the themes it includes. Change is one of its major meanings – sudden change, a change of mind. It means to switch, even to switch back and forth (with other cards saying that too), and it means ’emergency.’ A rule of thumb is Knight of Swords’ movement involves a desirable destination, whether it is getting out of something or pursuing something. His movement also is his own volition, his own idea, even if he is fleeing. Look at his face in the picture: He is onto something, leaning ahead in the saddle.
(Briefly, Knight of Wands is a very similar card, is more likely to be ‘getting out of Dodge,’ to be pursued rather than to be choosing to speed along. He looks panicky, whereas Knight of Swords looks animated to ‘get ’em.’ Nevertheless, Knight of Wands can show up for hot pursuit as well. Both Knight of Swords and Knight of Wands are in a hurry.)
………………………….. Sun is leaving, for sure (which makes Knight of Swords more likely to be getting out of something too). Here is Sun’s story: Funloving reckless boychild ducks out of the the house and its rules, naked, to cavort bareback on a wicked pony … and not even hold on. He has this huge banner in one little hand. Irresponsible and immature or juvenile. This is the callous reckless just-wanna-have-fun playboy who will leave before the ‘house rules’ of a relationship limit his juvenile pleasure. This is fun in the sun, vacation, time off, enjoyable activity. This is childhood issues, child and children in general, and of course being childish. This is uninhibited, spontaneous, a fun or charming person.
……….………….. Devil and Sun The many and varied core meanings of Devil and Sun create all the different titles in our spread today. Knight of Swords is the seasoning in their stew, turning their meanings on and off. Without a question, we say a whole lot of things here. More than I wrote about.
………..…………… Sun and Knight of Swords share many of the same phrases, ones about leaving, getting away, and life being changed for the better. In the illustrations, Sun leave the house and Knight of Swords leaves town. Both are quick leavings.
Falling off the wagon can be fun, and it’s also a pleasure to get back on and be free of the downside of a bad habit. Our spread embraces both equally! The point of today’s message, therefore, is to look for changes rather than a steady direction in life, and an underlying message is to get back on the horse you fall off of and enjoy the ride whichever way you are headed at the moment, because, hey, you’ve got some reins there.

Devil ……… Devil is someone we all know, and is found in our attachments frequently. The loose chains are the key feature in the drawing’s meaning: Your attachments, your habits, what holds you back: All voluntary! This is one of the most general cards: Name something awful, any downer, and it’s likely to mean that. But it has neutral and positive meanings too, meanings like: physical, bond, ‘attachment ‘ in the legal sense (exhibit attached, for instance) or in the simple sense of being clipped with a pin or paper clip. It means sexual and sex – not just lust. It can just mean ugly or the word ‘bad.’ It can mean obligation, burden, and onerous, which borders upon dutiful and duty.
It can represent ‘dirty’ as a word, even, say, getting dirty working hard. Of course ‘dirty’ in the pornographic senses too. So Devil is not the first card you look at, not a theme setter: Look around for a card whose meaning is more focused for that.
.
Sun ………. The whole spectrum of ‘fun’ belongs to Sun, from child’s play to a callous fling. Reckless uninhibited self-centered charmers are Sun. Cutting loose and enjoying yourself – spontaneity – is Sun. Kids are Sun. Sunshine is Sun. Getting free and getting out of the house (or out of a suffocating job) is Sun. Getting out from under the restrictions that hold you back is Sun. Breaking the rules is Sun. Reckless behavior (and the chance you take) is Sun. Anything about child or children is Sun.
.
Knight of Swords ………. emphasizes speed, rush, hurry, and avid pursuit. It also is about leaving, getting out, getting over something – all of which are by choice. Knight of Swords is about going in the opposite direction too, or making a U-turn. Change is featured, which brings such phrases as ‘makes a difference,’ unexpectedly, last-minute, emergency – and changeable, of course.

Four Card Spreads, Guidance, Tarot Verbatim
Guidance We contrast acting and speaking openly – declaring our position and being proud to be whatever it is we identify ourselves as – with keeping quiet or even having something to hide. We talk about not being a kid anymore, and about being a kid and keeping quiet about the night on the town. Changes in our body and changes in our behavior. Looking young all of a sudden and keeping quiet about that. Our body chemistry makes us happy.

Sun and Knight of Swords are leaving suddenly, in an impulsive (Knight of Swords) or uninhibited and reckless (Sun) manner. Knight of Swords is changing or switching, whereas Sun is escaping or cutting loose. Both are high energy: Knight of Swords is in an energetic rush, and Sun is in the throes of uninhibited fun times. Both can be spur-of-the-moment. Knight of Swords is a grownup, and Sun may very well not be.
Page of Wands and Sun are both young, usually young men. Page of Wands is the cute young fellow, and Sun is the reckless party boy. And Page of Wands is the respectable citizen, whereas Sun is out breaking the rules.
Page of Wands refers to the physical body, and Four of Pentacles means ‘internal.’ They can be the difference between internal and external medicine, for instance. Page of Wands also means appearance or image, and Four of Pentacles is secret, and is something to hide. Four of Pentacles is restraining himself, keeping his mouth shut, and Page of Wands is speaking out and declaring his position. Page of Wands is proud of himself, whereas Four of Pentacles has something to hide.
We contrast acting and speaking openly – declaring our position and being proud to be whatever it is we identify ourselves as – with keeping quiet or even having something to hide. We talk about not being a kid anymore, and about being a kid and keeping quiet about the night on the town. Changes in our body and changes in our behavior. .
Page of Wands He’s often what Emily calls the tennis pro type: young, good looking, nice posture, clean cut, a cute young fellow. Just like the picture we see here. He speaks up, speaks out, has a position and declares it. He openly stands for something. Page of Wands is about image, appearance, physical body and physical form, and the word ‘physical.’
Sun Baby boy ducks out of the house to play nude and bareback on a pony who is not amused. He is having the time of his young and possibly very short life. This card is about leaving, leaving home or a building, leaving suddenly, escaping, cutting loose on the spur of the moment. It’s uninhibited and reckless, it’s high energy and it’s party time. It often means a child, and it often means fun, relief, getting out from under restrictions, and vacation.
Knight of Swords He is about high speed, rushing, hurrying, putting a lot of energy into some urgent matter. He could be pursuing, fleeing, doubling back or switching direction (or sides). Leaving suddenly and changing are very common phrases for this fellow. He is very spur-of-the-moment.
Four of Pentacles We see a fellow holding onto his money, hugging his own chest, sitting in the road far out of town, hunkered down. Being short of money or on a budget is one of Four of Swords’ categories. So is keeping quiet, having a secret, restraining oneself. This is feeling or being inferior. In Tarot Verbatim(TM), this is ‘deep down inside’ feelings or closely held beliefs. It also means ‘internal’ as a word – any application of it, including internal organs, one’s internal life, etc.
EXPLANATIONS:
Each and every ‘Tarot Reading’ sentence you see is a literal interpretation of the four Rider Waite Tarot cards drawn and pictured for today. (The literal interpretation is from the illustration on each card.) These sentences are put together by only combining the phrases of what each cards says. In other words, there are NO “filler” phrases added just to make full sentences, and no psychic ability or spirit guide is ever involved.
*Without a question* in a group reading to focus the answer, the four Tarot cards can mean quite contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no,’ ‘never’ or ‘not.’ These negative modifiers can apply to any one of the other cards.
*Without a question* in a group reading, the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) are more flexible. Whenever you see a pronoun in parentheses, please *feel very free* to substitute another pronoun than the one used. I try to drop pronouns when possible, which, if you’ve noticed, can make for awkward phrasing.
Now in an ‘real’ individual reading, the questioner asks a specific question and thereby supplies at least half the information! In an individual situation, the parties are identified and sometimes a time frame is too. Here, in a group reading we cannot do that and so we get a variety of sentences.
Horoscopes are group readings, too. Astrology is based on someone else’s birth data, though, so a ‘solar’ group horoscope never really solidly applies to you! (Astrologers know this!)
Tarot, on the other hand, is perfectly capable of flexibly addressing any group, including all of the visitors that come to this site. It can also address people you might not even know personally, such as all the people at your job who have a say in whether or not you get a raise.
We have been wondering here lately whether the Tarot Verbatim(TM) sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than they are for people who visit this site only once in awhile or for a short time. Would you help us with a comment please, if you have not been a regular visitor? Just let us know if the sentences are relevant to you. So far, people say they do apply.
Return to this site often and you can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim(TM) works. Regular visitors actually learn to read Rider Waite Tarot cards with very little effort.

Four Card Spreads, Tarot Verbatim
Advice is about transitions in male behavior … transition between being a respectable person who is attractive to others and being an irresponsible funloving brat … going in either direction. Very emphatic that he is making this change himself in himself. No one else accounts for who a guy is: He makes the choices and the image he makes is his … and is him. “Our fine boy is turning himself into a delinquent.”
=========================================================================
Is this the first time you come here? Well … what to do:
*Go to Advice to apply what those sentences say to you. (Advice is everyone’s favorite part.)
*Go to Daily Message Tarot Analysis below. One or more of those sentences has something to say to you. Pick those out. They are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. (It is a group message like a horoscope, except Tarot isn’t based on someone else’s birth data, so it can be specific, accurate, detailed and direct. Our experiment here is “How much more accurate is it?”)
Did you come here for your predictions? – You are done now – See you tomorrow.
Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

Sun
Knight of Swords – Page of Wands – Magician
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD
Sun and Page of Wands are youth. Sun is the player, the brat. Page of Wands is the fine young man, well-spoken and well-dressed, who is respectable.
Knight of Swords and Sun are both leaving. Knight of Swords is getting out in a hurry and Sun has sneaked out to play.
Page of Wands, Magician and Sun are identified with males.
Knight of Swords also means a change, which makes a change of identity – between being an acceptable and respectable well-dressed person and being a (naked) brat – a strong theme here. Especially when you add in that Knight of Swords and Magician refer to making a change or ‘changing himself.’

Knight of Swords is in a hurry to get out and he is changing. Changing suddenly, usually. You see him flying by in such a hurry. He can be in pursuit, which suits the illustration (sword extended, as Knight leans forward) or can be fleeing, or can just be in a hurry. He is also a turnaround … which kind of suits meaning both fleeing and pursuing. (I do not make up the meanings; I discover them.)
Page of Wands talks and is looking good, is in fine shape – well-dressed and well-spoken proud young respectable youth. Almost always male, as is true of most of the pages in Tarot Verbatim ™ . He is into his role, his image, like a politician whose wife is never too sexy.
Magician shows the fellow with his wand raised, the tools of his trade on the table, in the act of making something happen or not happen. He is always male since he stands for the male principle of action or being active. He usually calls forth the words: he, himself, to do (conjugate that verb for him!), to make, to make (it) happen, to be the one who …
Sun If it feels good do it. I just wanna have fun. I gotta get out of the house. The heedless feckless youth who is going to get hurt because he doesn’t know what that is. The playboy, the brat. Breaking the rules (or sometimes the law). The charming boy or fun kid. Having fun. You see a young child nude on a wicked pony, not holding on, having a fun time in the summer.

Well, the first thing you should notice in this quatrain of Tarot cards is that they begin and end with children. The first ‘children’ card means romantic, a gift (especially birthday or Valentine) and trust as well as an old house and home sweet home and one’s birthplace. And the last ‘children’ card also means fun, a vacation, and to leave a house. Then in the middle what both cards have in common is quickness. One of these means to return or go back to and ‘sudden,’ and the other means more and more or many times, as well as ‘messages’ or ‘talk,’ – any kind of communication, actually. Don’t tell me, with these illustrations and these meanings, you can’t come up with a plethora of other messages!
Meanings and Illustrations:
Six of Cups: Little boy gives little girl flowers, in front of an old fashioned home (which looks more like an apartment building to us), This painting is very nostalgic in tone, isn’t it? Meanings that grow out of this scene are: sweetheart, romance with an old flame, old love feelings, children, home, child/children, the good old days, the past, the sweet past, the girl he loves, in love, babies, sweethearts, romantic, give a gift, old house, house, kid, birthplace, happy scenes of childhood, old home, birthday, childhood, like a child, a nostalgic place, quaint place, and trust. This is a warm fuzzy card, the warmest fuzziest card in the deck. If you had to live a card, this might be the one if you are into cozy.
Knight of Swords: Here the dude is again, rushing there, rushing back and rushing, going at breakneck speed. His horse is movin’. He is returning, he is doing it again, he is striking, he is doing another, even regressing. You can look for this card to reflect any “re-” idea, as in rekindle here.
Eight of Wands: This is one of those cards that in Rider Waite shows up way more often than its random distribution would suggest. It shows limbs flying one after another quickly, and the illustration suggests lines, so it comes to mean any kind of message or communication. Phrases like ‘each and every’ or ‘time after time’ that suggest succession of events belong to the Eight of Wands Rider Waite Tarot card. It very often means quickly, talk, often, repeatedly – pretty simple. You get it. I will say no more.
Sun: Here this flexible card is more defined because two of its meanings – ‘child’ and ‘leave’ – are expressed by the preceding cards, and the first card echoes the ‘home’ theme of Sun. Phrases for it today include: a kid at heart, child, baby, kid, fun, lighthearted, having fun, gets out of the house for some fun, escape, vacation, freely, leaves home, leaving, leaving the house.
