Magician – Magician as ‘the male principle’ is about action and being male, so you know most of its meanings with that in mind. And form of the verbs ‘do,’ ‘make,’ ‘create,’ or phrases that mean the same thing, such as ‘bring about’ or ‘bring down’ belong to Magician. Magician also owns a lot of pronouns – any form of male pronouns, including possessive ones (‘his,’ today), and any form of first person pronouns including possessive ones (I, myself) belong to Magician.
.
Magician also (as the 1) starts. Starts things, initiates, volunteers.
.
Magician can translate the ‘he does’ type combination of pronoun plus verb, or Magician can translate either the pronoun or the very. So it means ‘he’ and ‘does’ and ‘he does.’
.
Ten of Wands – You know how sometimes you decide you’re going to ‘save a trip,’ and you ‘do it all in one load,’ whatever it is. That is what we see here: overloaded but slow progress gets him where he is going and gets it done finally.
This concept brings up several categories of meanings that all pretty much mean the same thing.
.
Ten of Wands can simply mean ‘very’ or ‘always,’ in a very general way. Keep that in mind.
.
First you have the meanings about ‘slow.’ Slow progress, takes forever, is dragged out, one step at a time.
.
Then you have meanings about it being difficult or hard, which will bring up odd words like today’s ‘painstaking.’
.
Then you have ‘a long time,’ which Ten of Wands often means (obviously). Today we have ‘It’s been a long time since’ and ‘when you have been at it as long as I have,’ not to mention ‘Take your time.’
.
Then you have words like ‘extremely,’ too much, ‘overwhelmed,’ and ‘the whole thing.’ ‘Taking the whole project upon your own shoulders.’ ‘Too much’ can describe too much of anything, like being overweight yourself, or your baggage being hefty.
.
Lastly for today, Ten of Wands is about depression, sadness, and being ‘sick and tired.’ These meanings come from the fact our man is overloaded, moving slowly.
Hermit – Every little element of this illustration makes words and phrases. You see a service monk, and old man, who is out at night in the snow in mountains with a light, looking for travelers to take them to his home for a warm meal, comfy bed, and friendly conversation. He is a devoted friend to others, and he comes to them: he helps. He is looking, watching – and observing. This traveling plus observation brings Hermit its investigation and surveillance meanings.
.
Hermit is an old or older person, particularly of course an old man. He is religious of course too. Hermit is virtuous, particularly sincere, celibate (monogamous, these days, is often the actual word), sober.
.
Hermit is wise. Hermit is learned. He is actually a doctor (by what he is wearing), and will appear as a counselor in your spreads. Hermit is associated with truth, knowing, being factual and realistic, as well as for analyzing. This Hermit card will translate ‘He knows,’ just as Magician will translate ‘He does.’
.
Remember that Hermit goes to the other person and is devoted. Hermit can mean, in a spread, that the other person will come to you. Hermit can also say a friend is doing you (or the other person) a favor. (Of course, Hermit could represent you doing someone the favor too.)
.

Magician, of course, is any kind of doing and any kind of male pronoun, even possessive ones.

Ten of Wands is a long time, slow progress and slow anything, too much of anything, difficult and strenuous, and keeping at it anyway – in for the long haul type thing. Ten of Wands, as too much, can also represent the extreme of anything and the suffixes that mean ‘the most.’
.
Hermit knows, Hermit sees, Hermit helps and is a friend … so a friend who comes to the aid. Hermit is old or older, as a person. We don’t use his being outdoors looking for something or searching today, but he is on the path today.
.

Ten of Wands – Hermit – Four of Cups
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
………. .………. Well, this spread will remind you that Ten of Wands and Four of Cups say ‘won’t ever’ and like terms. Ten of Wands is forever and Four of Cups is ‘won’t.’ Today Ten of Wands amplifies meanings of the other two cards as Four of Cups cancels them out. Ten of Wands is doing it all in one trip, and Hermit is a trip. Hermit’s meanings color the sentences more than the others, because Four of Cups is to refuse, and something that does not get (or go) through. Hermit, as the star card, is talking about knowing, understanding, studying, investigating, being objective – mainly. He also brings us a little ‘path’ and ‘trip’ meanings, a little on enlightenment, and on celibacy, and throws in some of his virtues – being patient, well-meaning, and real. So today we have stories about a search for spiritual knowledge, and how it doesn’t sell well to folks below when you found it on that mountain you climb.
……………………. Ten of Wands is a long hard slow anything. Ten of Wands is one of those chameleon cards: It tends to magnify the scope of its neighbors because it is the extreme of anything, so it puts little simple words like very, too, long, always, and the amplifying suffixes like ‘-ier,’ ‘-iest,’ as well as their milder cousins ‘-er’ and ‘-est.’ It even means ‘forever.’ Ten of Wands is the accomplice to other cards’ deeds, good ones, bad ones, or neutral ones. It frequently means slow, as in slow progress – not so much today.
Here are Ten of Wands contributions to today’s one-sentence readings, with the words Ten of Wands is modifying in parentheses so you can clearly see where to put that Ten of Wands stroke on the canvas of your own spreads:
thorough, doesn’t take long, long hard (look), Keep (learning) and still (never), too much, how long, take long, too (objective), (held out) for so long, (know) it all, all in one trip, the long (way around), take (long) forever, slowing down, all (help), (not) ever, (won’t) ever, too (patient), too (well-meaning), wait, always.
You see a fellow doing it all in one load and suffering for it, but he grits his teeth and hangs in there until that wood is where it is going. So his is a long slow hard trip, he is persistent, and he can be overwhelmed or depressed about the whole backbreaking thing too.
Hermit is the star card today. He is the star card because Ten of Wands amplifies his meanings (or slows them down, because that’s what that busybody Ten of Wands does) and Four of Cups negates them. Just about any other card you put with those two would be the star card because of the limited meaning they have when they combine. (Fun project, there.) Well, Hermit has a few trunks to his meaning tree, all rightly growing form his illustration, which has several elements to it. Here are Hermit’s contributions to today’s one-sentence readings:
investigation, search, look, learning, know, study, understand, know what you’re doing, objective, trip, way around, the path, (I’m) old, help, coming to you, haven’t had sex, patient, well-meaning, what’s real.
……………………. Hermit pictures an older gentleman monk – service monk, which means he serves a purpose, not just contemplates – on a snowy mountain at night with a light looking for travelers to bring them comfy accommodations and a warm meal along with his wisdom. You can see the elements in the illustrations making up all his meanings.
…………………… Four of Cups is one of the very simple cards in the Tarot Verbatim™ system. What you see is a fellow who is seated, legs crossed, arms crossed, head averted, as the fourth offer is made to him. These simple cards are always anchor cards in the larger spreads because a glance at them will point you to your theme: labor-saving devices, they are. Obviously (you don’t need to be Tarot-lady to know) Four of Cups means: No. Not gonna. Doesn’t go through, doesn’t get through, not going to let, I can’t, I won’t … and et cetera all day.
Here are the contributions of Four of Cups to today’s one-sentence readings:
you quit, doesn’t take, don’t accept, never, doesn’t, no such thing as, held out, just shut up, don’t do, no reason, can’t take, won’t accept, not (slowing), refuses, not (ever), won’t want any, no more, Don’t be, doesn’t come, refuse to accept.
Don’t cast pearls before swine today. All your hardwon wisdom, all your tips for effective living, fall on deaf ears. You climb the ever-steeper path of your own mountain of achievement, reach your own summit of enlightenment, salvation, wisdom, enrealment and ‘getting it,’ and arrive at a plateau you would like to share with the folks in the valley. They didn’t climb, and they ain’t innerested. Their path goes around that mountain in inches of elevation, whereas you invested grease, blood, sweat and tears to go straight up to where you’re at now.
.
Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:

Ten of Wands………Ten of Wands shows this fellow totin’ that load all in one exhausting trip. Not easy, but you’re gonna make it, fella. Ten of Wands sometimes is doing it the hard way. This card easily takes on the color of nearby ones, blends in with them and boosts them. It adds suffixes to those neighbor cards that do that: ‘-er,’ ‘-est,’ ‘-ier,’ ‘-iest,’ etc. Ten of Wands goes even further than that: it means extremes, excesses; it means too much, too long, too hard, always, and forever – not to mention overwhelming and backbreaking. The feeling the picture gives you is good guide to how to apply Ten of Wands.
.
Hermit…………..If you look closely at this illustration, and know a little of its history, that will trigger the words you need from him in your spread – because there are a few categories that belong to Hermit. If you didn’t know he is a doctor by what he wears, you would not think of his medical words. So this story that you are looking at is: He is a monk who goes out at night with a light to bring comfort to travelers: a safe warm bed, a satisfying cooked meal, and a share of his wisdom, back at the monastery. Because he is a monk, he is about not having sex, in any of its contexts. He is out looking, so he can be a search, can be surveillance or investigation. He is an old wise man, so learning, teaching, studying, and being objective, belong to Hermit. He is literally on the path, and figuratively as well, so he has a pretty good column of meanings along those lines. He is helping, so he represents a sincere supportive friend.
.
Four of Cups……….Four of Cups is all the ways you can say ‘no,’ not interested, not going to, no response, shut up, I am not … a whole big stack of ways to say ‘no,’ including, frequently, the word ‘never.’ You see a hand offering the cups for the fourth time, and you see a fellow who is looking down, who has crossed not only his arms but his legs. He doesn’t want nothin’ to do with that cup. This card is a good place to start reading your layout because it has so few meanings: less to choose from.

GUIDANCE Sometimes we know too much for our own good. Sometimes we are so much wiser than they that it’s best just to keep our mouths shut rather than rocking their comfy normalcy bias. Sometimes it’s about maturity: Your news is not fit to print upon their tender years. Sometimes it’s best to not answer impertinent questions about your personal business from conformists who pressure you to be like them. Today we meet a woman who keeps to herself and keeps her mouth shut, and we meet a man who has taken a vow of silence. Go thou and do likewise for this one day, we seem to be suggesting.

Nine of Pentacles – Ten of Wands – Hermit
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
.
………………….…………………… Nine of Pentacles is staying put; Hermit is out on the road. Hermit and Ten of Wands are both on the road. Both Nine of Pentacles and Ten of Wands are handling what they are engaged in to the exclusion of anything else. Nine of Pentacles is waiting, and Ten of Wands is taking a long time. Nine of Pentacles is an expert, and Hermit is knowing – and learning too. Both Nine of Pentacles and Hermit are keeping quiet. So we have two people who are solitary who are not talking, and in between we have for a long time. We talk about staying home in comfort because it’s a hard road ahead, and we talk about taking the hard road, achieving expertise, and keeping the enlightenment to yourself.
………………………….. Nine of Pentacles is both an expert and a person who keeps to herself and minds her own business, unapproachable. She has a full life, she has hers … whatever that is … and she enjoys it in peace and privacy. Can you say ‘No drama here?’
………………………….. Ten of Wands is overloaded, overwhelmed, moving slowly under the burden of all of it all at once. The going is hard but you will get there. What you took upon yourself … or it may have been foisted upon you … you are making slow, sure, and steady progress in. You have no room for another thing on your plate … too much to do already.
..…………….…………. Hermit is about being of service to people without fraternizing with them. Hermit has wisdom, knows the truth – and the facts – and keeps quiet in his solitary way. Several parallels between Hermit and Nine of Pentacles, but Hermit brings help and dinner and rest to others that he goes out to find, and Nine of Pentacles is not available … don’t call her, and she won’t call you. Both of these cards are knowing: Hermit is associated with spirituality, religion, medicine and counseling wisely; Nine of Pentacles is an expert in her niche, whatever it is, and is successful.
……….…………. Nine of Pentacles and Ten of Wands Nine of Pentacles and Ten of Wands Nine of Pentacles and Ten of Wands are about being in one place for a long time, because Nine of Pentacles is staying privately in place, and Ten of Wands is a long time; and Nine of Pentacles and Ten of Wands are about keeping quiet, minding your own business, keeping to yourself because that is what Nine of Pentacles is doing, and doing that always and forever (Ten of Wands). These two cards also are about when you are too-anything … when you have passed what people will accept … it’s best to shut up and stick close to home. Nine of Pentacles is staying home, and Ten of Wands is depressed – which is another story about sticking close to home. Here are the sentences we get out of these meanings of these two cards:
SHE STAYS HOME
… be my own person for some time now.
Single for a long time.
She lives alone and has been _ forever.
She is a homebody; you have to go to the trouble to ….
_ is on the road a lot, and she stays home.
Her home-based business keeps her there.
When you _ too much, stick close to home and shut up.
When it comes to the whole _, you keep it to yourself.
A person who is too _ had best mind her own business.
She enjoys her single life, and she always will.
So depressing she keeps to herself.
Next we go into confidently waiting (because Nine of Pentacles is confident and is waiting, and Ten of Wands is an extended time and a delay, and a long time or time passing slowly – which also says for so long (Ten of Wands) I am confident (Nine of Pentacles). Here are those sentences:
Confidently wait for him to ….
… for so long I am confident now.
Ten of Wands means eventually, means long term, and means ‘still’ in the time sense of that word. Applying that to Nine of Pentacles phrases – her field of expertise; her place; and she has money – which is a bit of a grab bag, I realize, but it is all about the eventually/long term/still there continuum, we get these three sentences:
He will eventually … to her place.
Long term … is her field of expertise.
… she had money; he is still there.
There’s a contrast between Nine of Pentacles’ staying home in comfort and Ten of Wands’ long hard road. We glean these sentences from that contrast:
I’m staying here because of the long, hard road ahead.
… how difficult that road is, I stay home in comfort.
After a long hard … you keep it very private.
I am where I am because … when the going is hard.
Lastly, Nine of Pentacles is the expert, the occupier of a niche, a knowledgeable person, and Ten of Wands, in its ‘extreme of’ meaning, means ‘everything,’ ‘deep,’ and ‘you have much.’ This makes these sentences today:
She is the resident expert, knows everything.
Deep _ is so quiet.
Even when you’re the expert, you still have much …. x..
……….………… Nine of Pentacles and Hermit Nine of Pentacles and Hermit Nine of Pentacles and Hermit show a woman who is, and who lives, alone and a man who is, and who lives, along: two hermits, really. Two single people. Two people who are home-based as well, because hermit leaves the hermitage to bring travels who could use a warm meal and warm bed there. Hermit means being old too, and when Nine of Pentacles joins Hermit, together they can she ‘she is old.’ Hermit is patient, and Hermit is sober, so both of these, when these two cards appear together, say she is patient, and she is old. Here are those sentences in today’s spread:
She lives alone and is celibate.
I seek to be my own person.
We are both single.
She is a homebody; you go to her.
He is on the road, and she stays home.
It’s apparent her home-based business ….
Sees she enjoys her single life.
I am where I am because I am patient.
I am sober; I am confident now.
Being old, she keeps to herself.
Hermit is all about knowing and Nine of Pentacles is all about keeping quiet, keeping your expertise to yourself. Hermit is honest, and Nine of Pentacles is keeping it to herself. Hermit is learning, and Nine of Pentacles is the expert. Hermit is understanding and Nine of Pentacles is quiet. Nine of Pentacles is the expert, and Hermit adds the idea of something still to learn to that. Lastly, Hermit is medical and medical treatment, and Nine of Pentacles is a field of expertise. All of these are about knowing and keeping quiet about it, so here are the sentences:
KEEP QUIET ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW
… a search for enlightenment, you keep the wisdom private.
When it comes to the truth, keep it to yourself.
A person who is honest had best mind her own business.
She knows; she is the resident expert.
When you know, stick close to home and shut up.
Understanding is quiet.
Even when you’re expert, you learn.
Medical treatment is her field of expertise.
Hermit knows and is on the road, so these two meanings combine with Nine of Pentacles’ staying home in comfort, to make these two sentences in today’s spreads:
Knowing how that road is, I stay home in comfort.
I am staying here because I know about the road ahead.
Lastly, Hermit comes to the other person. (This is a meaning of his to keep in mind, because it often combines with his being devoted to, being the best friend of, which says your best friend is devoted to you, and comes to help.) Nine of Pentacles is confident – she knows. Also she has money, so Hermit says ‘he comes to her because he knows she has money.’ Here are those sentences:
Confidently _ for him to find his way to you.
She knows he will come home to her place.
He came to her with the idea she had money. x..
………..………… Ten of Wands and Hermit Ten of Wands and Hermit Ten of Wands and Hermit combine ‘a long time’ or ‘long term’ with seeking, looking for something, being sober, coming to a place, knowing, being celibate, medical treatment, and ‘sees’ – which of course are Hermit’s meanings. This combination makes these phrases and sentences:
LONG TIME FACTS
I have been seeking for some time now.
Sober for so long.
Single for a long time.
He will eventually come to her place.
Knows he eventually ….
Has been celibate forever.
Long term medical treatment.
Sees … and always will.
Hermit is on the road. Ten of Wands makes that a long hard road, a difficult road, a road you have to go to some trouble on, a road Hermit is on ‘a lot.’ Ten of Wands is waiting, often; Hermit is him finding his way, so that gives us the ‘wait for him to find his way’ sentence.
I know about the long hard road ahead.
Knowing how difficult that road is ….
After a long hard search for enlightenment ….
You have to go to the trouble to go to _.
He is on the road a lot.
Wait for him to find his way.
Hermit is about the truth, about being honest, about knowing, and about understanding. Ten of Wands is ‘whole,’ arising out of its ‘all’ meaning; it means ‘too’ or ‘too much,’ and it means ‘everything,’ arising out of how he has taken everything upon himself. ‘Deep,’ in the context of ‘Deep understanding’ joins the ‘extreme’ meaning of Ten of Wands. These give us the following sentences:
When it comes to the whole truth ….
A person who is too honest.
Knows everything.
When you know too much ….
Deep understanding. x..
Detachment and being of service can go hand in hand. She is an expert in some niche she has achieved, and has withdrawn from the field otherwise, living alone in privacy, so she is very literally minding (only) her own business. He can be of service to others if he too is living apart and away from them, seeking them out in their hour of need and being otherwise not involved. Hermit is a paramedic, you could say, and Nine of Pentacles is a consultant. Each of them deal with some weighty matter this way.

Nine of Pentacles ……….. Nine of Pentacles is expertly minding her own business, having achieved a pinnacle of expertise in something. Pictured here as the owner of a vineyard, who lives there and enjoys training her falcon, Nine of Pentacles is self-sufficient – she has a life, we say – and is private. She is her own person; she needs no one and doesn’t get involved – is noncommittal and impersonal.
.
Ten of Wands …………. Ten of Wands has undertaken the whole task, and is carrying the whole burden of completing it. It will take longer doing it this way … there may be a delay … but when it’s done, it’s done. And it will be done, Tarot says. Ten of Wands is about a lot of, or too much of, anything. Ten of Wands is slow but sure progress. Ten of Wands is being overwhelmed and sticking with it anyway. Ten of Wands is a strain.
.
Hermit …………. Hermit knows – the facts and the truth. This is your helpful friend, your devoted companion. This is you seeking wisdom, you on your spiritual path, you as a devotee of your religion. Hermit is patient and is looking, watching, looking out for … see the lamp he carries? He is out at night on the road in the snow, which can be taken literally, in whole or in part, in some of the contexts you inquire about. Hermit is helpful without getting involved, the counselor rather than the confidante. Hermit is a healer or doctor too.

GUIDANCE Today we are on a very private road, on our path, moving through whatever slows us down until we get there. We are step by step getting to our reward even when overwhelmed. We keep going even if we are old when we arrive. We know we are on the right road a step ahead at a time, and that’s how we shall arrive at our eventual destination. The gist of our messages are that in the long run, honesty pays, and that it’s okay to be religious and/or spiritual.

Ten of Wands – Hermit – Ace of Pentacles

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
.
………………….…………………… All three of these cards are about a road, and two of them have religious-spiritual overtones – Hermit’s a monk on his path, and Ace of Pentacles is the path. Hermit and Ace of Pentacles together are about honesty and kindness. Ten of Wands and Hermit are patience and traveling slowly. We have a little to say about money, too.
………………………….. Ten of Wands, one look at the picture tells you most of his meanings: going slow, weighted down with difficulty and/or depression, making it the hard way, taking the whole load upon yourself, and ‘one step at a time.’ It also means long term and for a long time.
………………………….. Hermit is on the road looking for something, carrying a light, as a religious (a service monk). He is sincere, kind, helpful and a friend not only because he is the monk, but because he is looking for travelers on the cold road in the dark of night to invite them into the monastery for dinner and rest. He is elderly, and he is searching or looking – two of his other meanings. We are not using that today, but he is a doctor, medic or healer of any sort, and a counselor – the wise man.
..………………………. Ace of Pentacles combines being on the right road, path, or track with prosperity or reward, so you could say it is a preachy Tarot card in Rider Waite. (Prosperity Christianity, they call it.) But the straight and narrow can happen if you’re just smart, not necessarily pious. Ace of Pentacles is arriving at your destination, is the payoff or reward, is money, is a really good thing of any sort, is success, is better or best, and says ‘pays off’ too.
……….…………. Ten of Wands and Hermit Hermit is watching and looking, and also means ‘discover,’ and Ten of Wands is a long time, a long hard anything, is long lasting. Sentences for this part are:
Diogenes is looking for a long time now.
Watching a long time.
It’s so hard … but I’m looking for it.
Looking for the longest lasting _.
Just keep looking to keep going.
Take a long hard look.
Looking to _ the most _.
With a lot of help, you find ….
Ten of Wands is the long run, is keeping at it, is slow progress; Hermit is seeing, the virtues, patience, slow and patient, is on the road at night, knows, is honest and kind, and is old. Put these together, and you have these sentences:
When you can see … you just keep going no matter what.
I see the hard way ….
The virtues _ in the long run.
What’s in your long term _ takes patience.
Progress is slow but if you are patient ….
If you are patient and keep going ….
On a slow and difficult road all night.
We know … so we keep at it.
We keep going even if we are old ….
A simple life is very __.
Kindness _ eventually.
Too honest and too kind.
Hermit is old. Ten of Wands has been doing the same thing for a long time, is going slow, and keeps going, bearing the burden. Ten of Wands also frequently means ‘eventually.’
When you are as old as I am, and have been doing it as long as I have ….
Eventually, you get old.
Slow down when you are older.
We keep going even if we are old ….
_ is such a burden to the elderly person.
Hermit as a monk represents the spiritual or religious path (the same thing to Tarot most of the time), and Ten of Wands as ‘difficulty’ covers ‘ardors’ and ‘it isn’t easy.’ So here you go:
The ardors of a spiritual path.
I’ve been on the religious path, and it isn’t easy.
Hermit is sobriety (as well as chastity), and Ten of Wands is not only the one-step-at-a-time toward sobriety that we all know, but also means ‘for a long time,’ so these two sentences are here:
One step at a time toward sobriety.
I have been sober for so long.
Hermit is knowing, and Ten of Wands is a long slow process, and also means thoroughly (through meaning ‘a lot of’). It is really Ace of Pentacles as money that calls up ‘compounding’ for these two Tarot cards. Compounding is leaving the interest in the sum invested, to draw interest of its own over a long time. That way, these two cards have contributes to this meaning: Knowing all about compounding. x..
……….………… Ten of Wands and Ace of Pentacles Ten of Wands is both ‘for a long time’ and ‘it’s so hard,’ and Ace of Pentacles means perfect, so we have these:
… perfection for a long time now.
It’s so hard to be perfect.
Besides meaning ‘perfect,’ Ace of Pentacles means ‘the best’ and ‘better.’ Ten of Wands means a long time, to keep going, a lot of, and long term. So here are the phrases from this portion of the union of Ten of Wands and Ace of Pentacles:
The best and longest life.
… and have been at it as long as I have, you are the best at it.
The best way to keep going.
… the best way, with a lot of ….
What’s in your long term best interest.
Ten of Wands is the long run, a long time, eventually – and with money it can mean compounding. Ace of Pentacles means ‘pays,’ succeeds,’ a really good thing, and money. So these two Rider Waite Tarot cards in Tarot Verbatim™ mean these phrases and sentences:
… pay off in the long run.
… for so long, I have succeeded.
_ pays, eventually.
All about compounding your money.
Eventually … and that’s a really good thing.
The refreshing thing about Ten of Wands and Ace of Pentacles is that progress is slow (Ten of Wands) but you make it, you get there (Ace of Pentacles):
One step at a time gets you there.
Progress is slow but you will arrive.
on the road a long time
What’s in your long term best interest.
… for so long, I have succeeded.
We keep going, and we arrive.
If you keep going, you will get there.
Ace of Pentacles is the right track, the right way, being right, and it’s all right – any positive phrase with ‘right’ in its meaning of correct belongs to Ace of Pentacles. Ten of Wands is the ‘no matter what,’ the hard way, keeping at it, and slowing down. Here are those sentences:
… on the right track, you just keep going no matter what.
The hard way is the right way.
We are right so we keep at it
It’s all right to slow down.
Ten of Wands means ‘very’ and ‘too’ or ‘too much’ as well as a burden, the most, and a long, hard effort. Ace of Pentacles is money, so all that pays off. Here’s how that goes:
_ is very rewarding.
Too _ but it pays off.
_ a long hard _ at where the money is.
Money is such a burden.
Make the most money.
Lastly, we have a few strays coming in under the wire. Ten of Wands is ‘the ardors’ because of its ‘difficulty’ category of meanings. It also means, for the same reason, ‘it isn’t easy.’ Ace of Pentacles is the ‘straight-and-narrow.’ So here ya go: The hard (Ten of Wands) way (Ace of Pentacles).
The ardors are so worth it.
I’ve been on the straight-and-narrow path and it isn’t easy. x..
………..…………. Hermit and Ace of Pentacles Hermit and Ace of Pentacles are out looking for the best or looking for the perfect (whatever). Hermit is looking – and he is also old, patient, and helpful. Ace of Pentacles is the best way, beast interest, best life, and is perfection. Here are those sentences for you:
_ is looking for perfection.
… to be perfect: I’m looking for it.
Look for the best life.
When you’re as old as I am, you are the best at it.
Just looking for the best way.
What’s in your best interest takes patience.
With help, you find the better or best way.
Ace of Pentacles means ‘right’ – any kind of right in the sense of ‘correct’ or ‘righteous.’ It also means ‘It’s all right.’ Here are those sentences:
When you can see you’re on the right track ….
I see _ is the right way.
It’s all right when you are older.
We know we are right.
Ace of Pentacles is about ‘it’s rewarding’ and ‘it pays’ and is ‘so worth it.’ Hermit is spiritual path, virtue, a simple honest life, kindness and honesty. Here are what we get from these meanings:
The virtues pay off.
… of a spiritual path are so worth it.
I’ve been on the straight-and-narrow religious path ….
A simple honest life is rewarding.
Kindness pays.
(We) are being honest and kind but it does pay off.
Ace of Pentacles is about arriving – partly due to its ‘success’ meaning and partly due to the road leading to victory there. Hermit is sobriety, is patience, is honesty, and is, of course, on a road at night. Hermit is old, too. These meanings combine to produce these sentences for you:
… toward sobriety gets you there.
If you are patient, you will arrive.
On a road all night.
Watching on the road.
(We) are old when (we) arrive.
I have been sober; I have succeeded.
If you are patient, you will get there.
Lastly, Ace of Pentacles is money, and Hermit is elderly, and is looking; and Hermit knows. So here goes:
Look for the money.
Take a look at where the money is.
Money is … to the elderly person.
Looking to make money.
Knowing about your money.
You get old (Hermit), and that’s a really good thing (Ace of Pentacles). x..

………..…………. Hermit and Ace of Pentacles LOOKING FOR THE BEST _ is looking for perfection. … to be perfect: I’m looking for it. Look for the best life. When you’re as old as I am, you are the best at it. When you can see you’re on the right track …. The virtues pay off. Just looking for the best way. With help, you find the better or best way. LOOK FOR THE MONEY Take a look at where the money is. Money is … to the elderly person. Looking to make money. Knowing about your money. You get old, and that’s a really good thing. Watching on the road. x..
.
The virtues pay off in success and in cash, besides being a reward in themselves, we say. Be in for the long haul, and even if the going is slow, you get there. Your patience is eventually rewarded … a reason for being patient, right? Compounding money is a good example of the long haul paying off. When you can see you’re on the right track, you just keep going no matter what.

Ten of Wands ……….. Ten of Wands, as you can see, is overloaded because he (or someone else, or something else) put it all on his back in this one big load, and he is weighted down with the burden of it, going slowly. He will make it: That’s part of the meaning of Ten of Wands. ‘Eventually’ and ‘one step at a time’ are his. (Put him next to Hermit’s ‘sobriety’ category of meanings, and, yes, you have the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.) Ten of Wands says ‘Hang in there’ and also says ‘Take it upon yourself’ and ‘Do it in one operation, all at once.’
.
Hermit …………. Hermit is a monk, a doctor, is a traveler on the road, or a pedestrian, is looking for something (and is looking where he’s going). He is patient, helpful, a friend, is kind and devoted. Hermit is one of the caretaker cards, like Queen of Pentacles who cares for her man or her family mainly. Hermit can be counseling or a counselor. He is also elderly. In medical topics, watch for him to say ‘ambulatory’ because he is walking with a stick.
.
Ace of Pentacles ………….Ace of Pentacles is being right, being on course, being on the right track, ‘yes,’ a reward or payoff, money, possession (mine, ours, yours, theirs), arriving, the best or the better, success, and has a connotation of ‘the right path’ for spiritual or religious life.

Four Card Spreads, Guidance, Tarot Verbatim
‘Seek and ye shall find eventually if you are patient’ is today’s mantra. The relationship you want is hard to get to, but you are on the road looking for it. Likewise, you patiently search for what you want, and you will find your price to buy it at. Tired of the people you are with, so you are out looking for what you want. This is yet another example of Tarot’s paralleling relationship with commerce.
3 with misc Tarot Readings: Relationship (I) Want (Nine of Cups and Three of Pentacles)
It is taking so long to find what I really want: a relationship that is reciprocal.
I am satisfied that we are both long term and supportive of one another.
Oh how this person bends over backwards to be fair and wants to be so kind.
Looking for a relationship that gives me everything I want and more.
Looking at what is fair, I am sooo tired of this person’s greed.
Been wanting to meet with a counselor for a long time.
More than anything, (she) wants a relationship with a religious man.
Tired of this relationship, I go out looking for what I really want.
We are both totally satisfied with our relationship and are mutually supportive.
This is the relationship I want but I can see it’s high maintenance.
The truth is, you want this relationship no matter how difficult it is.
The relationship I always dreamed of and patiently waited for.
The relationship I want is hard to get to, but I am on the road looking for it.
Tarot Readings: Business Dealings (Three of Pentacles)
I just want to deal with honest people, I’m so tired of this.
I get everything I want in this deal, including all that support.
Totally satisfied doing business with someone who always goes out of (his) way to help.
Looking for exactly what I want, and eventually I will buy.
This is the long term contract (we) are looking for.
I want to be fair, and I can see how difficult that is.
I am looking to please everyone I deal with in every way.
Miscellaneous Tarot Readings
We all want to get together, it’s just such a long trip.
Tired of old people; wants to be with peers.
When I got the understanding I sought, it was so hard to deal with it.
Long term (Ten of Wands), I can see (Hermit) I’ve got everything I could want (Nine of Cups) in this relationship or deal (Three of Pentacles). This is the mother message for today.
Three of Pentacles is almost always the star card because it means a deal (business or otherwise, an exchange) and it means a relationship in which each party does his part fairly. It means a meeting of any kind, including a meeting of the minds. These meanings intersect with every card in the deck in at least one way.
Ten of Wands is long term, difficult or hard, eventually, a long time or long term, goes out of his way, in every way, slow, tired or exhaustive, and anything that means ‘a lot of,’ like high maintenance, so much, overwhelming, burdensome, backbreaking, bend over backwards, and so on.
Nine of Cups is called ‘Your wish is granted.’ It mainly means the situation serves your wants or needs, you get what you want, you are pleased, content, satisfied. It is also satiation, as in ‘I ate the whole thing,’ or drank the whole thing. It also embraces wanting to please, and the thing that you want, as in Nine of Cups and Three of Pentacles are the relationship you want, your dream relationship.
Hermit is kind, is seeking or looking for, is looking at, is an understanding counselor type person, is an old (or older) man, is being patient, being supportive.
Ten of Wands You know, when you decide you’re going to do it all at once instead of piecemeal? It’s an ordeal, progress is slow, but you get through it somehow and are done. That is Ten of Wands – It is long term, difficult or hard, eventually, a long time or long term, goes out of his way, in every way, slow, tired or exhaustive, and anything that means ‘a lot of,’ like high maintenance, so much, overwhelming, burdensome, backbreaking, bend over backwards, and so on

It also embraces wanting to please, and the thing that you want, as in Nine of Cups and Three of Pentacles are the relationship you want, your dream relationship.
Hermit A monk in a service order goes out in the cold night to invite travelers to the warmth of the monastery. Hermit is about being kind, is seeking or looking for, is looking at, is an understanding counselor type person, is an old (or older) man, is being patient, being supportive. He is also about a trip, being on the road. Sometimes this card in Tarot Verbatim(TM) refers to being out at night, or simply to nighttime.
Three of Pentacles is almost always the most important card in its spread because it means a deal (business or otherwise, an exchange) and it means a relationship in which each party does his part fairly. It means a meeting of any kind, including a meeting of minds. It applies equally well to any exchange with fellow humans, whether social, romantic, commercial or exchange of ideas.

A grown daughter takes care of the daddy who took care of her. She looks for a fine old home to take fine care of. Grandpa is devoted to his daughter’s child. Even about looking for siblings. Financial and emotion support are equated.

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD
Today’s theme is caring for relatives, children and the home – and caring both financially and lovingly. Both Queen of Pentacles and Hermit are caretakers. She takes care of her man and her man’s financial affairs as the loyal worldly wife. He is the devoted loyal kind supportive man who is faithful.
Six of Cups is also taking care lovingly and taking care financially. It embraces romance and children. It is also the old home, the family home, the good old days, sweet memories.
Ten of Wands adds ‘a long time’ and ‘very much’ to all this loving care.
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS
Queen of Pentacles takes loving care of her man and her man’s financial affairs as the loyal worldly wife. She takes care of his estate or home. Stereotypically the assertive Italian matriarch. There she is with her hands on the money in the fertile fields (See the bunny rabbit there?)
Ten of Wands is the extreme: it is longer, deeper … more. It goes on forever. It takes on the whole load in one exhausting operation. See him there with all the firewood on his back?
Six of Cups is romance and children, so the illustration is of the little boy giving the little girl flowers. It is about old neighborhood, old times, old house. Nostalgia galore.
Hermit is mature. He is devoted, supportive, loyal, monogamous, faithful, honest, helpful … sounding like a Boy Scout. He is the old man, the grandfather. That is the aspect of him we are using today. He is the counselor and way-shower too. Rider Waite even pictures him as the monk in search of strangers to help in the middle of the night.

Advice contrasts being an impulsive and natural (i. e. unimproved) person with being an enlightened person who is ‘on the path.’ It speaks of burdens and losses, of difficulty and slow going. It contrasts being edgy and egoistic with being patient and helpful. The gender of the cards that express this is male, so the message is directed to men in particular. It mentions being a devoted husband … who is missed.

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD
First thing that grabs you looking at these four Tarot citizens is the juxtaposition of King of Wands and Hermit. Diametrically opposite values are represented in these two.
King of Wands is the redneck, the country boy, the workingman, the common man, as well as the angry frustrated man.
Hermit is the patient, kind, supportive man who looks out for us and who goes out looking for a way to help his fellow traveler. Hermit represents ‘the truth,’ even.
King of Wands is ‘the natural man’ and ‘impulsive man’ (Christian and occult parlance, respectively) and Hermit is the enlightened man, the godly man.
The remaining half of our spread is about loss and depression. Five of Cups is loss, mourning, losing, waste. Ten of Wands is overwhelming burden, slow going, difficulties, and depression. The two together mean ‘overwhelming loss.’
MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS
Five of Cups is loss, mourning a loss, mourning a person, preoccupation about the past or about a loss, preoccupation to the point what is left is disregarded … hence, melancholy and depression. The concept is illustrated accurately by a black robed figure who contemplates the wine that is spilled and has its back to the wine that is remaining. We have all been there. Hopefully, not right now?
King of Wands is the ‘young soul’ of New Age parlance, the unenlightened soul. He is the common man, the working man, the impulsive man, the guy with the bad temper, the husband, and the irritated frustrated edgy dude down the street. The illustration shows a redheaded fella with a big stick sitting on a salamander-themed throne, his left hand in a fist on his thigh. He has high blood pressure for sure.
Hermit is the monk who serves his fellow traveler, who is out looking for people who have some trouble on the road. He carries a light in the dark. He is literally ‘on the path.’ So here is a kind supportive man who looks out for you.
Ten of Wands carries on in hard times, overwhelming burden on his back, slow going but is going to make it eventually. He has taken on the whole load. This is one of the cards that means sadness, depression and melancholy, as does the Five of Cups. When you see them together, there is a down feeling.

Four Card Spreads, Our Daily Spread
Advice is about the long hard search and the long hard journey to get to a loving relationship with someone you can trust, and the same long hard search and huge effort to find the location, the home-place, that is safe and friendly – the neighborhood to bring up children in. This story is about the effort, the time it takes, the patience it takes, and about the eventual success that is yours. It suggests that this is what success in life is.

Is this the first time you come here? Well … what to do:
*Go to Daily Message Tarot Analysis below. At least one of those sentences has something to say to you. Pick those out. They are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. (It is a group message like a horoscope, except Tarot isn’t based on someone else’s birth data, so it can be specific, accurate, detailed and direct. Our experiment here is “How much more accurate is it?”)
The Question for weekdays is: “Tell the visitors here something useful and meaningful to them.”
The Question for weekends is stated right on top on those days. Comment or call if you have a suggestion for a question.
(Some days are ‘keep an eye open for’ and some days are ‘green light, go fast.’)
*Go to Advice to apply what those sentences say (in the best way) for you. (Advice is everyone’s favorite part.) Did you come here for your predictions? – You are done now – See you tomorrow.
Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

Meanings and Illustrations: Observation of the Spread
Hermit and Chariot are both on the road, and both have an intention, a purpose. Hermit is looking, searching, seeking, and is volunteering to be of help. He is devoted and sincere, a caretaker. Chariot is ambitious, purposeful, masterful – a success for himself, the type that gets ahead.
Hermit and Six of Cups are sincere, trusting, old-fashioned, loving, devoted, kind, helpful, sweet …
Hermit is well-intentioned toward strangers, is traveling, and is honest, and Six of Cups is affectionate toward a specific other person and is home. Hermit is celibate (or monogamous, depending on the question) and Six of Cups is romantic, or focuses on a child or children.
Hermit and Ten of Wands are both moving forward patiently.
Six of Cups and Ten of Wands refer to longstanding issues or situations. Six of Cups is the past, the good old days, and pleasant nostalgia – once again, stationary at home; whereas Ten of Wands is difficult, depressing, and on its way to somewhere else.
Chariot and Ten of Wands both arrive, both accomplish their task. It’s just that Chariot sails through whatever the difficulty is, and Ten of Wands is bowed down by it.
Meanings and Illustrations: Individual Rider Waite Tarot Cards
Hermit’s story is that of a monk in the service of travelers. He is out at night seeking people to help. He is going to them. This is a friend, caretaker, honest man or person. He is devoted. Often he stands for an old man or older person.
Chariot is master of circumstances, ambitious and successful. This Rider Waite Tarot card is about ‘tacking against the wind,’ about using elements that are against you advantageously, and about being aware of the downside of the elements that are in your favor overall. He is on the road to get ahead. This card is about willpower, purpose, deliberate action. He is masterful. Note that he isn’t macho or pushy, he is self-confident and businesslike.
Six of Cups is so sweet, is as devoted as the Hermit. It calls forth romance, children, home (as in home-sweet-home), the good old days – the past we look back to fondly, the old neighborhood or childhood home.
Ten of Wands is overwhelmed, it’s too much, it’s taking on the whole task at one time and making very slow progress. It’s being depressed and slow-moving. BUT it gets there. This is a card of eventual success. It often refers to ‘eventual.’ The illustration in Rider Waite is very graphic: A man is loaded down with all those boards, carrying them all in one load to their destination.
