Tower
A lightning bolt instantly destroys the building, which overthrows the plan of its builders. There’s fire, it’s broken, and it falls. Tower owns all those words, and a lot of synonyms of them. Tower is very flexible in those synonyms: they include such things as a heart attack, bankruptcy, getting arrested or busted, quitting, getting fired, a breakthrough, a temper tantrum, out of control situations, exploding, any kind of break including breaking up and breakthrough, falling off the wagon, the poop hitting the fan, a crash, a confrontation or things coming to a head, and going ‘cold turkey.’
Tower is any kind of explosion or destruction. It is shock. It is a short-circuit. It is drama, chaos, and cliches like ‘blood in the streets’ (an investing term, actually), shorting a stock investment (because of the short-circuit), a crash.
Keep in the back of your mind that ‘destruction of evil’ is a flagship term for Tower because that Tower of Babel is considered evil in the Bible story – and I think in the Babylonian and other places the history appears.
Tower also – watch for this! – innocently means sudden, instantly or instantaneous, unexpected. As I said, it also picks up cliches reminiscent of Tower’s meanings, words like ‘mind-blowing’ and ‘knocked over,’ and so on.
Two of Wands
A picture of a landowning banker with the world in his hands on a rooftop is mainly about financial security and the future. Financial anything, especially related to real estate. The future particularly regarding a plan. The globe-holding dude is looking out (outlook, overview) over his real estate holdings, planning on how to make even more profit. So Two of Wands is also budget meetings, business plans, profit, projected earnings … anything like that.
He is planning for the future, so Two of Wands not only means ‘future’ and similar words and phrases, but also puts surrounding cards’ meanings into future tense and/or applies them to the future. For example, if you have a ‘bad card,’ Two of Wands says it hasn’t happened yet but is out there. That’s better than (Tower) blowing up right now.
Two of Wands is a main real estate card, especially if Three of Pentacles joins it. It can refer to a mortgage as easily as it can refer to a bank account. It is the main card for investment and investing. It means ‘solid citizen’ and refers to a leader in the community or ‘pillar of the community.’ And Two of Wands naturally is a card-carrying member of the ‘success’ theme in Tarot Verbatim™.
Two of Wands is security – financial security, yes, but also words like ‘foundation’ and ‘established’ and ‘solid citizen.’ Things are under control in Two of Wands, and it often means just that. It means that in secondary ways, even, as when next to Two of Wands we say ‘controlled demolition.’
High Priestess
Put High Priestess next to a consciousness card or a spiritual card, and she has a lot of very deep meanings. But today she is in a story of physical events. So High Priestess lite.
She is famous for not doing (passive, as the feminine principle, because of her ‘2’) and for being quiet, so naturally High Priestess is behind the scenes, secretive, in the background, and waiting. As the female principle, High Priestess can simply translate ‘she’ at times.
But her main claim to Tarot fame is knowing. She knows all. She knows all and does not tell. She is astute. She can mean research and data and higher learning – and books of course since she has one in her lap. She stays put: The world comes to her, not she to it. That’s how she means ‘sedentary.’
As a person, High Priestess is the quiet type of lady. (She means ‘lady’ she is the lead card for ‘passive.’) High Priestess know all about him in romance stories, and she doesn’t initiate anything: He’s the guy, she’s the Girl, and that’s THAT.

Two of Wands is security and being established. High Priestess too is established and is secure. His type of security is physical and hers is spiritual, or at least spiritually based. High Priestess is as spiritually oriented (even means the spiritual plane) as Two of Wands is physically oriented, what with his ownership of the surrounding property he gazes upon. Two of Wands is a ‘good businessman’ and High Priestess know all about … anything and everything. Two of Wands is about control and being in control; High Priestess operates on the spiritual plane that controls events downhill.
Tower’s meanings sprawl despite the fact they snugly originate from the destruction of the Tower of Babel and the downfall of its planners and builders. More than other Tarot cards, Tower’s meanings in Tarot Verbatim™ contain some plays on words, like ‘fall off the wagon,’ for instance.
We have banking in Two of Wands and bankruptcy in Tower. We have long term or even permanency in Two of Wands, and instantly falling apart in Tower. We have staying in both Two of Wands and High Priestess, and quitting or being rejected in Tower. We have things under control in Two of Wands (and to a lesser extent, in a different way, in High Priestess) and we have chaos erupting in Tower.
We have High Priestess as the other woman, Tower as breaking up, and Two of Wands as solid and permanent or long term. So this spread is indeterminate if the question were about staying-with-the-wife-and-leaving-the-Other-Woman: It reads either way.
