GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE
.
Eight of Pentacles – You see a guy working at his workplace, and Eight of Pentacles is all about job and employment, doing and getting done, and keeping at it consistently and persistently, over and over. Phrases like working at it, working for, working to: These belong to Mr. Workingman Eight of Pentacles. It sometimes says ‘profession’ although it mainly refers to hands-on work.
.
When Eight of Pentacles is about people, it’s employee(s), worker(s), people who work here, and so on.
.
Eight of Pentacles means ‘doing’ in much the same way Magician does, except Eight of Pentacles isn’t limited to being male; it’s being the one who does, employee or worker generally.
.
Eight of Pentacles is also sequence: phrases like one after another, phrases like one at a time.
.
Lastly, this Eight of Pentacles card is one of many that translates ‘always,’ and when it does it isn’t so much referring to time as to the ‘constantly, consistently, each and every time’ category of its meanings. Think ‘I always do that.’
Queen of Cups – Okay, here’s the blond. Think Sally Struthers playing Gloria in the old TV show ‘All in the Family,’ which became ‘the Archie Bunker show’ in people’s minds. If you have not experienced that travesty of American social mores, check it out: It’s so true! Think True Believer: Queen of Cups is ‘not political.’ You see her engrossed in a grotesque artifact as a flood snakes around where she is sitting, wetting her dress and her feet so far. We all have Queen of Cups’ moments of believing and not getting it. This Queen of Cups lives there.
.
Double meaning to this card. She is usually naïve, kind of a Southern Belle stereotype who believes in her man, is loyal, sweet-natured, understanding, loyal and loving. She is often the understanding wife and the ‘woman who understands her man and admires him’ the way women say ‘they understand’ the criminal they are with. The nice lady. The sweet girl. Today’s words for this gal are: blond; she has faith in him; woman admires; understand you; the lady who believes in him; his loyal wife; good woman, nice girl.
.
However. However, Queen of Cups is also the smart woman, the woman who has figured it out, and figured him out – or is in the process of figuring whatever-it-is out. Here, she brings words like: she is considering; she knows; someone who knows how; as she figures it out; a thinking woman admires; keep your mind on.
.
When Queen of Cups is a person, it’s a woman. Queen of Cups translates ‘woman’ and even just ‘she’ as well as ‘good woman’ and ‘nice girl.’ Today, with elderly Hermit, Queen of Cups becomes ‘daughter.’
.
And Queen of Cups is mindset and ideas too. Not that often. But it’s there.
Hermit – Hermit could be the Tarot card with the most unrelated meanings, and today is an excellent example of that. We have eleven categories of meaning for Hermit here.
.
Hermit is an elderly monk (service monk) on the road at night searching, with a light, in winter, and he is wearing the robe of a physician in the Middle Ages. He is looking for travelers on the road who could use any sort of help, including a warm bed and a good meal – not to mention his wise counsel. As a religious, he is devoted to God and his fellow man, so Hermit is ‘a good man,’ and all sorts of virtue words like honest, sincere, helpful, monogamous (chaste), etc. He and Queen of Pentacles are caretakers, and when you see the two of them in a spread, you may have a couple who are devoted to and take care of each other.
.
So Hermit means to look for, to look out for, to watch, to ‘be on the lookout for,’ which is police terminology. Sometimes Hermit is an investigator. Hermit is not only an observer (see the search light) but observation. Hermit is even surveillance, or a witness who saw something.
.
A religious on the road: Naturally Hermit is ‘on the path.’
.
And Hermit is the helper, and is the one who comes to whoever the other person is in your story. That includes Boyfriend calling or coming to Girl, and is often advice to let him find his way – don’t be the one to pursue him. And by the way – as the Boyfriend, Hermit is ‘true,’ meaning monogamous with Girlfriend, and is sincere. Could be caring and devoted to.
.
Hermit knows. Hermit is wise. Hermit is educated – a doctor (or other healer). ‘Know’ is a large part of Hermit’s dictionary.
.
Another large part of Hermit’s dictionary is ‘old man,’ ‘old,’ or ‘elderly.’ Also ‘mature,’ of course – because our Hermit is old and wise. The wise old man – an archetype.
.

…………..…………. ……………………. ……
.
Queen of Cups and Hermit are a good couple; they have a lot in common. Of course it’s a May-December couple, so it can be father and daughter too. Today with Eight of Pentacles the ‘ work’ card, they could be coworkers. If so, they are both knowledgeable employees because both Queen of Cups and Hermit are knowing. This gives a ‘ he knows and she knows’ theme. Hermit is famous for observing and watching, so we have watching someone work (or do something, because Eight of Pentacles is also the doing of anything). And we have the old man working – or the old man’s wife working, because Queen of Cups is the loyal and devoted wife. We even have a man who is mature enough to work for a woman.
.
Queen of Cups and Hermit are both about ideas, and are both about good people.
.
And speaking of loyal and devoted, Hermit too possesses those traits. So here is a man who is devoted to his wife or woman. And we have the woman who believes in him. We also have a good man and a good woman.
.
Hermit is a monk, and Queen of Cups is ‘ the true believer,’ a woman who absorbs whatever her culture calls for. ( Queen of Cups is ‘not political’ and she believes everyone is a good person.) With Eight of Pentacles being the profession, Queen of Cups has taken up religion as a profession.
.
Eight of Pentacles famously ‘ keeps doing’ or ‘ keeps being,’ and Queen of Cups has something on her mind, so ‘ keeps thinking.’ She keeps thinking about that kind sincere patient older man, when you add Hermit to the spread.
.
Hermit is looking for … and Queen of Cups is the good woman he may be looking for. After all, they are a match made in heaven. Hermit comes to the other person, so he keeps coming to that sweet-natured woman.
.
Queen of Cups is famous for understanding and admiring her man, so the lady admires the honest man ( Hermit) and/or the working man ( Eight of Pentacles).
.
Hermit is a doctor or a counselor, so we can have that as a person’s job, in which case it’s the counselor’s job to understand and think well of me. And the woman’s mindset ( Queen of Cups) is to go to the doctor ( Hermit) over and over ( Eight of Pentacles), or go to one doctor after the other (also Eight of Pentacles).
.
Hermit is on the road at night (or just on the road), and Queen of Cups has something on her mind, so when we add Eight of Pentacles, we have ‘ keep your mind on the road.’ We just as easily have a woman up at night who keeps thinking about (whatever).
.
This is another instance of: When you have two cards with similar meanings, and a third card that is different from them, you have stories.

Hermit – An old man is on foot in the snow on a dark night. He carries a lamp to find travelers who could use his help. He takes them back to his hermitage, his monastery where he lives. All the characteristics of his story make meanings for Hermit and more. I will give the full account, quoted from a previous post, at the end of this.
.
Hermit comes to the aid, helps people, is sincerely warm and caring, a helpful and devoted friend.
.
Hermit is all about looking for. The lamp is all about seeing. Hermit applies to investigating, watching, witnessing, inspecting, and even surveillance.
.
Hermit is walking, is on a trip, is on his way. He can be about a journey or a trip. Today he is ‘walking distance’ even.
.
This is an elderly man, and Hermit (along with Emperor) can be an elderly man or person, or elderly people.
.
As a monk, Hermit applies to all sorts of virtues. Today he is sane, honest, sincere, calm, wise, caring, and patient.
.
Some other things Hermit represents are: to know, night, the night shift, and a medic or doctor – because Hermit’s robe are what doctors wore back in the day.
.
And now I reprint here something I wrote in a past post because it’s pithy and memorable:
.
“Hermit – You put a story together about an elderly monk who is a doctor who goes out on frigid mountain passes at night with a lamp to locate travelers, help them, and treat them to a warm bed and hot meal, and you have a lot of elements you can apply to your Tarot story. He is on the road, on a trip. He is also a guide, and a wise counselor. Hermit is sane, rational, logical. This card applies to objective and realistic perspectives.
Let’s talk about the meanings he uses in today’s story, shall we? He is an old man, so ‘elderly’ belongs to Hermit. He is helping people, is devoted. He is out looking, which covers ‘search’ and looking or watching, and which expands to ‘investigation’ and inspecting.
He is on foot, which brings you ‘pedestrian’ at times, and which also expands to ‘comes to’ – being the person who comes to another person. It is night time and he has a light, which brings any night scene, the word ‘night,’ and its synonyms, and also phrases about a flashlight or other light. (For instance, Hermit with Chariot can be night driving, or even the view from a car’s headlights.)
Hermit is a monk, so it can interpret as characteristics of a religious, including such virtues as: patient, calm, devoted, honest, values, and chastity (not being sexual) – which, these days, turns into being true to a lover, being straight, etc.
Hermit is also a friend, which grows naturally out of doing things for people – a helpful friend, a devoted friend.
Hermit is an old man, so this is the card for elderly man or men, or elderly people.
Not today, but Hermit is the main card for doctors and other medics. His clothes designate him as a doctor in the Middle Ages.
You know how people call someone who keeps to himself and minds his or her own business a hermit? Well, I can’t remember this card ever stepping up to that plate, but maybe you will live to see it? (There are several other cards that perfectly describe the mind-your-own-business homebody lifestyle, so Hermit doesn’t need that designation.)”
Eight of Pentacles – Today we use the three main meanings for Mr. Eight of Pentacles: (1) constant, steady, and always; (2) job and work; (3) increasingly and ‘more and more.’
Ten of Cups – You see the couple, the family, and the neighborhood in this picture. And those are the major Ten of Cups headline meanings.
In Tarot Verbatim™ it is one of three marriage cards, and each of those represent any kind and any size of group of people. Ten of Cups concentrates on good guys and good groups: it even means happiness, getting along, people you know like and trust: your community or their community. The well-adjusted people (but I hate that phrase). It translates ‘everyone’ too.
.
Ten of Cups is family, home life, family members, family reunion … and one big happy family. So it can be a good family relationship as well as a good marriage.
.
Ten of Cups is the neighborhood card, and one of the cards for single family home as real estate. The house, especially the house in a good neighborhood of course; and Six of Cups also means just that. It can be a building once in a while, as today when you have the inspector, and a job inspecting houses.
.
.
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..
… .. ….. … .
Here are three normal-everyday-life Tarot cards, nothing esoteric. Can you see Hermit as Mr. Rogers and Ten of Cups as the neighborhood? – and Eight of Pentacles as ‘that’s what he routinely does’?
.
Eight of Pentacles is work, and Ten of Cups is home, so you think of working at home. And Ten of Cups is happy, so you think ‘ Happy at work.’ Ten of Cups is everybody, or a group of people, or a family, so ‘ Everyone at work’ or ‘ Working for family.’ Ten of Cups is marriage, so ‘ Working on the marriage.’
.
There’s no threat or drama to the stories these three cards tell. Hermit is looking, and Eight of Pentacles is doing the same thing over and over, so the subject of their stories tend to be Ten of Cups, which is happy, prosperous, and normal. The End.

And Ten of Cups is happy, so you think ‘Happy at work.’ Ten of Cups is everybody, or a group of people, or a family, so ‘Everyone at work’ or ‘Working for family.’ Ten of Cups is marriage, so ‘Working on the marriage.’
.
There’s no threat or drama to the stories these three cards tell. Hermit is looking, and Eight of Pentacles is doing the same thing over and over, so the subject of their stories tend to be Ten of Cups, which is happy, prosperous, and normal. The End.

My quest is a normal home life, and I keep looking for a job where I can fit in with people who get along with one another too. At least I’m getting more and more sane hanging out with these normal folks here and there, and I married an honest person with a steady job. Now, Part Two,
Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim™ thing works? If so,
*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing section below. This tells about the combined meanings of the three cards in the pictures in the Tarot Readings. It explains how these cards get together in your mind to make the messages. HERE ARE PHRASES FOR ALL THREE 2-CARD COMBINATIONSis a stream-of-consciousness bridge to your subconscious if you use it regularly – people report.
*Go to Learn Tarot by Pictures. It is what each of the cards, by itself, has to say. It shows you how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in today’s Spread. All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim™.
You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim™ works.
This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contradictions – than a personal reading would give you. Also, pronouns are flexible: If the sentence feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ but you’re a ‘she,’ well, it’s yours.
*AND if you write names of any two cards into the Google search bar, it will give you meanings of those!

Eight of Pentacles – King of Wands – Hermit
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
……………………… King of Wands and Hermit are opposite types of men. King of Wands is the ablebodied impulsive uninhibited hotheaded and hotblooded wild man and the workingman who keeps at his job. He reminds me of Merle Haggard’s bar scene songs. Hermit is the calm celibate old or older man who is patiently looking for people he can befriend and help – and his job is to be on the road at night looking for those people. King of Wands is action and Hermit is wisdom and patience. The card these two share a bunk with in our spread is Eight of Pentacles, which means work, effort, doing things, and things that keep happening. (Keep in mind that Eight of Pentacles and King of Wands can both be about the building trade – if you have them together, then you look for Three of Pentacles, the contract to build.) Yeah, we got stories today!
………………………….. Eight of Pentacles shows a carpenter at his bench, manfully mass-producing one identical item after the other, sticking to it. If you have ever heard a skilled carpenter hammer, you know about this sticktuitiveness they have. Eight of Pentacles is everything about work, job, labor (even labor politically); and it means effort, consistent action.
It also describes: one after the other; a piece at a time; keeping busy; doing something again and again; all the time every time; a routine a person keeps up; the physical part of any task; being in reflexive mode as you do repetitive motions; blow by blow – and so on.
Watch for it to simply say something happened on the job, or at work is where someone was, in some spreads you do.
………………………….. King of Wands is a natural companion to Eight of Pentacles. Both of them are workingman, working-class, physical and hands-on – the common man or the common touch. King of Wands is a man who is a steady worker, who is employed on purpose.
King of Wands branches out into being a husband or married man, the ‘red head’ – the passionate impulsive uninhibited edgy (even angry, ill-tempered or irritated or irritable or irritating) wild man type. This ‘red head’ stereotype originates in the Middle Ages as the ‘fiery’ person, which they associated with the salamander because they thought salamanders breathed fire – and this misconception gets all over astrology concepts that way! The ‘fiery nature’ inhabits Kind of Wands’ meanings. Proof of that is found in the live salamander at his feet, and the salamander motif tapestry behind his seat.
That ‘temper’ side of King of Wands’ meanings, when aspected by some dangerous cards such as, say, Seven of Swords or Tower, can turn King of Wands into a threat, a bad guy.
[While we’re at it, Queen of Wands is the wife or housewife or domestic engineer (watchful mama) card in Tarot Verbatim™, which has something to do with King of Wands being the main husband or ‘married man’ card. While we’re at it, Queen of Cups is the devoted wife (or even girl friend) who believes in her man, understands him and still likes him, so she is the runner-up ‘wife’ card, which also promotes King of Cups to the runner-up ‘husband’ card. Cups (the suit) are associated with emotion, so that will enter into it in some way when the runners-up appear in your spreads.]
………………………….. Hermit Then along comes the wise old man who is calm and patient, everyone’s friend, out at night looking on the road for people who would appreciate dinner and a warm bed. He, as the sincerely religious and spiritual devotee, kind of throws a bucket of ice water on King of Wands’ overheated approach. However, a blend of passion and patience (King of Wands and Hermit) is what it takes to get something done (Eight of Pentacles) sometimes.
Hermit and King of Wands share honesty as a trait. Hermit and Eight of Pentacles share patience and sticking to it as a trait.
Hermit is a physician because of what the illustration shows he is wearing, and is a counselor because the wise old man plus the helpful friend equals the giver of good advice.
Hermit is devoted, is supportive, is one of the caregiver cards (along with Queen of Pentacles, also supportive and devoted – but to family).
His searching expands into watching, overseeing, even surveillance and investigations. He can be the inspector too. He could be inspecting the work (Eight of Pentacles) the workingman (King of Wands) does.
Lastly, remember Hermit is associated with nighttime, with mountains, with snow and hence cold.

Passion and patience are such a good blend, but it takes steady effort to keep them blended, doesn’t it? A high-energy worker who knows his stuff and takes his time and gets the job done. It’s as hard for a hotblooded man to be celibate (go without sex) as it is for a patient reserved person to get up on stage and do something outrageous. We are trying to get ourselves in the middle most of the time, and, yes, it’s a steady effort.
.
LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES
.
Eight of Pentacles.………. Eight of Pentacles Here’s the carpenter at his work bench hammering away steadily, producing identical pieces someone else will put together. He is in reflexive mode, attention on the physical doing of his task. He is employed; he is a worker. This is the card for anything at all to do with job, work, labor, workplace, work site, labor parties, etc.
Eight of Pentacles is about habitual repetitive movements or actions – routines and habits, any of them. So it can also be about the reflexive mode, that trance state we get into when we mindlessly do something like buttoning our clothes or walking up stairs. This card can even represent the ‘mindfulness’ of meditation practices. It can also indicate a habit – good or bad one.
.
King of Wands…………. King of Wands is a natural companion to Eight of Pentacles. Both of them are workingman, working-class, physical and hands-on – the common man or the common touch. King of Wands is a man who is a steady worker, who is employed on purpose.
This is the main ‘husband’ and ‘married man’ card in Tarot Verbatim, as Queen of Wands is the main wife card.
He also represents having the common touch, being working-class, being a guy, being natural and normal in a plain and uninhibited way. Yeah, he has his wild moments too – a party boy. And, yeah, this guy can be angry, irritated, edgy, boisterous, surly or bad-tempered. Badly aspected (in bad company), he can be brutish, even brutal. He can be a ‘bad boy’ in romance inquiries.
.
Hermit …………. Hermit is you in your wise, kind, understanding, forgiving, helping-out-your-fellowman mode. Hermit is an old soul, as they say; a person whose self-control and patience are mostly natural traits, who is inclined to be heavily spiritual. One of those kind warm personalities who were born that way. Everybody’s friend, the supportive caregiver, whose calm and patience exude good advice without a word being said.
Hermit is associated with religion as well as spirituality because, of course, he is a monk – a service monk at that. (That means he doesn’t just contemplate; he gets up and does something useful to others.) His garb in the drawing indicates he is a doctor, and the fact he is peripatetic (fancy word for walking, ha-ha) makes Hermit represent ambulance personnel, paramedics, and first aid.
Hermit is when you go to someone else (or, of course, someone else comes to you). That would be making the first move … even blinking first, you know?
Tarot Verbatim™ expands the searching Hermit is doing to watching, looking for, to overseeing and even surveillance. So he can be an investigator or a security guard, given the right setting – or an inspector.
Because he is out at night in the snow (cold weather), in the mountains, any of these elements of the illustration may be what your spread uses.

Hierophant The pope is doing a religious routine or ceremony for the pubic. This card is about things on the surface and in the physical being just fine. About the news that’s fit to print, and keeping the reputation up. About the usual stuff.
Hermit He is out doing his routine, looking for people on the road to help, bringing light to the dark and cold. Hermit is about looking out for the fellow man, kindness, wisdom, being older, searching or looking for anything, and finding it. Searching expands to investigating.
Eight of Pentacles The carpenter is doing his routine, making the same object over and over at his bench. He is about work in all its ramifications.

We begin with Eight of Cups which in Rider Waite commonly means: avoid, abruptly, change, quit, drop everything and immediately, suddenly. Then we have the Hermit, whose common meanings are to look, to seek, to find, to observe, sincerely, knows, the fact, honest. Then the Eight of Pentacles which is about work and what you are doing. We close with Star which is about talk, confessing love, praise, being happy and healthy, and even a performer.
The comment for your six months says things go well at work, things change for the better, and love is sincere. I’ll drink to that … after Lent.

This spread immediately suggested the Moral Majority to me! even the Tea Party people! No ‘spoiler’ cards here! Both the Hermit and the Hierophant (pope) are churchy cards, and the Ten of Cups is the good people of the community, the happy marriage. The other card’s main meanings are work/workers/workplace and consistently doing something. So, are we on the straight and narrow or WHAT, here?
Today’s messages tell us there are good people around us and we can find and join them; tell us that life is or can be nice and normal; tell us that the workplace can be peaceful. No nasty surprises to look out for today!
Meanings and Illustrations:
Hermit: The story of this Rider Waite Tarot card is about monks who would search for travelers to help them at night. Its common meanings are to seek, to look for, to search or search for, to look out for, to be out at night, to be monogamous or celibate, to be honest, kind, considerate, helpful, and also the truth, the facts. It means ‘to look into’ or an investigation as well. Here, the phrases arising from the Rider Waite Hermit card are: monogamous, looking for/looking, honest/honest man, patiently, devoted/devout, warm and caring, helps/helpful, counselor, knows how, inspect, old man, investigation, the fact is, comfort, see to it, and supervises.
Eight of Pentacles: Here is the carpenter working consistently turning out one identical item after another on his work bench. This card consistently refers to work, repetitious movements, repeated action, workplace, profession/professional, construction work, the actual doing of something. It is one of the anchor cards since it is an ‘old faithful’ in these meanings.
Ten of Cups: This refers to a group of people, in a positive way. Your circle, your family (or someone else’s whom you are asking about) the people, community, the good people, and so on. It also means happy and ‘happily after, and – best of all – a happy marriage or family.
Hierophant: First of all ‘Hierophant’ means ‘pope.’ I read a Tarot book by a (black) magic-oriented person that instructed: When you pull this card, just quit for the day. Really. The full main meaning of the Hierophant is about the difference between what the common folk are taught and the actual church teachings for the cognoscenti (ones in the know). Anyway, as you might expect, in Rider Waite this card is about such things as normal, everyday, behaving yourself, ‘correct’ and ‘right,’ harmless, safe and playing it safe, ordinary, the official story, the ‘on paper’ or ‘fit to print’ version. It means commit and commitment, and ‘true to.’ You can fill in much of the rest, can’t you?
He gives her lots of gifts when she isn’t sweet
Death
Six of Pentacles, Eight of Wands, Six of Cups
Business/Other Perspectives:
An increase in pay, not (just) for being good.
More money being paid (to you), not as a gift.
A lot of attention, not (just) because you are nice.
He is paid to not talk about what used to be.
No increase in the pay you actually receive.
More attention when he/she isn’t being good.
No more children to spend money on.
Too many bills to pay: No more kids!
No more bills than in the past.
Lots more attention, not like it used to be.
Not spending all that money like you used to.
Making more money, not like in the past!
Romantic Perspective:
When he isn’t sweet to her, he gets a lot of attention.
More and more romantic attention in the end.
He gives her lots of gifts when she isn’t sweet.
She ends up with him giving her a lot of money regularly.
He doesn’t talk romantically but gives her money/gifts.
When she isn’t sweet to him, she gets a lot of attention.
When he is giving her more loving attention, he ends it.
She does not get all the romantic attention she deserves.
He sends her a lot of romantic messages/texts, and stops.
Does not spend that much money on gifts.
Ends the love affair by sending texts.
He doesn’t pay child support regularly.
Says it is not his child in court.
No increase in child support payments.
Don’t talk about loving or pay any attention.
Someone is giving and someone is receiving (Six of Cups suggests a girl) and it’s sweet/romantic and/or relates to the past, and there is more of it. The different scenarios are from putting the cards together in different ways. This spread is a good exercise for that, actually. I invite you to make four lists of the words – one for each of the individual cards, below – and creatively weave sentences together in different ways yourself.
Meanings and Illustrations:
Six of Pentacles: To pay. To receive. Wages, bills, to spend. Fair, fairly, a fair price. Court proceedings. To pay attention to someone, or receive that. The illustration shows an employer measuring exactly the wages of employees.
Eight of Wands: The wands are flying in the air, a lot of them, looking like lines of writing. Meanings related to this Rider Waite Tarot illustration are things like: increase, more, a lot of, talk/says/words, attention, spend money on, texts, regularly.
Six of Cups: Well, there it is again. You would think there were several of these in the deck. I check for that, okay!? Little boy gives little girl flowers in the courtyard of a picturesque old home. It speaks of romance, sweetness, home, gifts, children, trust, loving feeling.
Death: In this spread, the Death card does not work well as a negator for some of the meanings, due to the interlocked meanings of the other cards which have to talk about receiving – receiving love, gifts, money, attention, etc. So it means things like stop, in the end, and commands of ‘don’t’ and ‘isn’t’ and so on.
